Does it seem to anyone else that the screen on this phone doesn't always register input as consistently or quickly as it should?
Is this a software or hardware issue?

I'm wondering the same thing. For instance the keyboard seems to have trouble with registering a keypress on the same key that just worked fine the press before. Granted I just got the phone yesterday and I'm in my learning curve, and it's still stock. Lovin my ns4g with no bloat either way ;-)

I just posted about this. Didn't seem as bad until I rooted the phone, but that was within about three hours of getting it. It's annoying as hell, right? My thread is in the General Forum. ugh.
The screen is definitely not as sensitive as HTC screens. And I agree, it's annoying.
My screen was to sensitive before update but saying HTC has more sensitivity touch screens I beg to differ
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Mine is so sensitive that I don't even have to touch the screen, it will register a touch if I hover just above it.
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
what update is this you're referring to?
mine also does the hover thing. I'm getting very annoyed with this...
Sent from my Nexus S 4G using XDA App
I know the feeling, mine seems to be solely limited to the pre-call dialer. On the dialer it works like a 15 year old palm pilot. Everything else is hyper sensitive. It works fine when in a call.

Is there a setting to change the touchscreen sensitivity on the Nexus S?
I have noticed when the screen is hot it doesn't register keys pressed, I always end up hitting the "." Its quite annoying but j do however love the phone
Sent from my Nexus S using XDA App
Is there somewhere on the phone to set the sensitivity?
Mine falls into the "So sensative that it registers a touch when I hover my finger over it".

I apologize if I'm a little cranky but no one seems to see my question. Is there ANY SETTING available for the sensitivity of the touchscreen?

No setting that i know of. I believe some kernels adjust sensitivity but its one setting built in not adjustable. I am running netatchy kernel and responsiveness is amazing.

Yep that is true, sometimes it depends of the ROM or Kernel you have.
Hello, fellow Nexus S owners. I am resurrecting the thread because I found myself in a similar situation.
But first some history and details - I own a I9023 handset and have been using stock ROM since it came out (JZO54K). Couple of days ago I noticed that the lower part of the screen (the line right above the hardware buttons) is less responsive and sometimes even unresponsive. This makes it really annoying when trying to call somebody and nothing happens when I try to launch the dialer. The same behavior is observed throughout the whole row this includes even applications button. When texting the same things happens.
At first I thought that this could be due to me installing a "Temple Run" kind of game, but I wiped it, rebooted and the problem remains.
What do you think? Could this be a hardware problem or software one?
Your digitizer might be dying.
It's also known that while charging the phone with the wrong charger the screen goes crazy, but then, unplugging the phone will usually solve the issue.

Luckily the device is still under warranty so I will take it to my vendor for repair. Maybe then I will have some info on what's happening.
I had a similar problem a while back when my battery started to die. I've never experienced any touch screen wackiness caused by third-party chargers, but this seemed to be a comparable issue albeit in the opposite direction. So in addition to my battery losing charge real quick touches wouldn't register in the bottom half of the screen.

Hello guys I was wondering if anybody else is having this problem, sometimes when I press the back key on my att nexus s it freezes for a couple of secs then it goes back to normal, it won't matter what I am doing it could be anything from visiting the marketplace to browsing the web its really annoying me a lot at this point.
If you know anyway how to fix this issue please let me know thanks.
I have the same problem, but it also happens with my menu and search keys. The individual backlight will dim and the phone freezes for 4-7 sec.

Not having this issue.

Is the phone freezing or is just the back key randomly not responding to touch? If its the latter, then you need to do an exchange. Common problem.
I used to have this issue but it eventually went away. It happened after they replaced my screen.
I used to have this and assumed it was a hardware thing, changing roms sorted it.
I have no idea why this is the case and when someone else said as much I thought it couldn't be the case but I'd suggest you flash a different ROM and see how you get on.
I have this problem also. Mine will go dark and exit out of anything I'm doing as if I was pressing it. Gets old sometimes

I started getting this about two months into the life of my Nexus. In the process of exchanging mine now in the hours that I get an unaffected unit.

My first one did this constantly so I exchanged it and so far so good with the new one.
Looks like a bad batch of ns4g's went out. Mine is doing this too. Not very ofter but enough that I notice it.

Actually it affects all Nexus S models. I think it is touch panel driver bug.

I have a T-Mobile myTouch 4g Slide and The touchscreen sometimes doesn't work, I've noticed it happens more often when my battery is low and that it'll be working fine but when I use the phyical keyboard it won't work after that until I charge it up and restart it many times. There is a crack on the front so would replacing the digitalizer fix this? Any help would be appreciated.
I wouldn't think replacing the digitizer would help being it stops working intermittently otherwise it wouldn't work all the time. If it only does it when the battery is low then check your settings to see what is turned off if you have a battery saver mode. Easiest thing to do in my opinion is wipe the phone. That usually fixes this (I have even seen it fix physical buttons not working as well)

I have the same problem here. I usually have to turn the screen off to get it working again.

My entire screen never stops working, but sometimes when I'm touch typing, certain keys will refuse to register.
I don't know if that's a problem with my screen, or a problem with the keyboard app I use (Swiftkey X)

Keyboard?
Wanting to buy a MTG4 slide for my wife. Does the phone have an on screen virtual keyboard along with the actual slide keyboard?:

Yes, and there are many on the market if she prefers others then the HTC "Touch Input" and Swype that come pre-installed on the phone.

I'm having this issue where randomly the touch screen stops registering my touch, and the only way to get it to work is to turn the screen on and off.
Hardware buttons work fine, and I have tries different ROMS.
Anyone know anything about this issue? Thanks

As you said randomly, try use clean stock ROM for days to see if it is jammed by applications or not, I have that problem as well sometimes, due to some apps fully occupied CPU and make everything else non responsive...

the UI might be lagging as well if youre using the noop i/o scheduler.

Anyone had dead spots on their HOS?
On two different occasions, the screen stops working directly above the Homebutton and a reboot solves the problem..
But since it happened 2 time now, is my digitizer damaged or something?
Similar problem
I seem to have a similar problem where I get random dead spots on the screen. The problem happens more frequently with me with AOSP ROMs. Also, turning the screen on and off usually fixes it for me. I may have a bad digitizer, I'm not sure though.
I've had the same issue couple of times a while back.
edit
can't remember, but it might've been while using cm10 (only had it on for a few days).
Try downloading dead pixel fix from market it is really good fixing dead pixel
Download run the app and leave or phone for at least 6 hour with app running at maximum brightness

Sorry, I didn't mean dead pixels, I meant the touch gets dead..something with the digitizer...
Dude I had a post about this before like i have to turn my screen off a lot cause it won't register my space bars during a text or the letter t and its really annoying but turning the screen off and on fixes it

I been having a similar issue usually made the center of the screen around the t y u Button's on the keyboard.
Started roughly after running cm10 might be a coincidence though

Try wiping off the screen and turning the phone off and on.
The first might help if it's a humidity issue, the 2nd might help if it's a grounding or static issue.
I don't have these issues but is it related to this? http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1679649
Touch Button Issue HTC One S
It's pretty much the opposite of that issue to the point where il be trying to get in the menu and my touch on the menu key doesn't do anything till I turn my screen off and on cause the bottom part of the screen is unresponsive... And I'm on stock no root

Yeah I had like 2 of em. Got them handled in service.

This!! I always have to do this once in awhile.
This only happens in aosp roms (dont know yed on aokp). It used to happen to me sometimes on cm10 but now I´ve been for a while on sense roms and didn´t happen anytime.
i agree with the above, ive only had this issue on cm10
I run into the same problem sometimes. It's most noticeable when using the keyboard but I've had it happen on another part of the screen. Like others have said turning off the screen then turning it back on always worked to fix it.
I was having this issue in CM9... Once I reverted back to Trickdroid 7.1, this issue no longer happens. So it sounds to me like it's related to the driver in CM9... I suspect that if I switch to CM10, the issue will still be there.
My epic 4g touch has been dying at random and the screen flickers before doing so. Many times it tells me theres at least 60% but it dies but usually its very random when it shuts off. I'm running android 4.2 and my galaxy s2 is fairly new. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have no experience with that particular device, but any time there are actual non-binary hardware issues (screen flickering as opposed to, say, simple hard reboot) I get concerned that it's going to be a quagmire rather than a simple fix. Are you still under warranty? Unless others have had similar issues (which should be subject to a Google search) I would say a) replace the batter or b) contact the manufacturer. Sorry for the lack of insight.
By flickering do you mean getting a jagged black screen around the edges,a second before it dies? (I have this problem on my mango, still looking for the reason. )
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro
Its just the whole screen flickering. My guess is that my battery calculation is off or something thinking there's more/less battery than what really is there.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info, I think the battery is just messed up because the battery terminals are a little faded. I sure hope its not a hardware error in my phone because I don't have a warranty
