My epic 4g touch has been dying at random and the screen flickers before doing so. Many times it tells me theres at least 60% but it dies but usually its very random when it shuts off. I'm running android 4.2 and my galaxy s2 is fairly new. Does anyone know what I can do to fix this?

I have no experience with that particular device, but any time there are actual non-binary hardware issues (screen flickering as opposed to, say, simple hard reboot) I get concerned that it's going to be a quagmire rather than a simple fix. Are you still under warranty? Unless others have had similar issues (which should be subject to a Google search) I would say a) replace the batter or b) contact the manufacturer. Sorry for the lack of insight.
By flickering do you mean getting a jagged black screen around the edges,a second before it dies? (I have this problem on my mango, still looking for the reason. )
Sent from my Xperia Mini Pro
Its just the whole screen flickering. My guess is that my battery calculation is off or something thinking there's more/less battery than what really is there.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda app-developers app
Thanks for the info, I think the battery is just messed up because the battery terminals are a little faded. I sure hope its not a hardware error in my phone because I don't have a warranty

Hello, I have an issue with screen - it is very dark and it is even twice as darker as it used to be, and its just unusable
I don't really know why it is so - it can't be a physical damage, because I've been using this device for 3 months and never dropped it. BTW such issue was 3-4 or for times before and was cured by rebooting - now it doesn't help and even charging phone doesn't solve this problem.
I've been using the ROM - Cognition (some of the latest) and will try to flash back to stock, maybe it will solve my problem
Have you guys had such issue?
Have you tried changing you brightness settings?
after unlocking the screen slide your finger over status bar at top or where it should be if u could see it and see if that works.
lol, I know how to change brightness of the screen) but that's was awful, very dark screen and seemed like broken. after charging to 100% now it is fine, but I afraid I will have the same issue in the future

not a USA citizen....
I even have no idea, why it happened, maybe because of that so much cold weather in Russia?
is this only happening when the battery charge is less than 10%? If so, that's by design.

no, even with 100%
and it is even darker than when it used to be on 10%
today I was told that it's the screen problem and the only thing I can do is to replace it with the other screen, but unfortunetly, european Samsung Galaxy S screen is a bit different and the only place where I can replace it is the United States...

Hello guys I was wondering if anybody else is having this problem, sometimes when I press the back key on my att nexus s it freezes for a couple of secs then it goes back to normal, it won't matter what I am doing it could be anything from visiting the marketplace to browsing the web its really annoying me a lot at this point.
If you know anyway how to fix this issue please let me know thanks.
I have the same problem, but it also happens with my menu and search keys. The individual backlight will dim and the phone freezes for 4-7 sec.

Not having this issue.

Is the phone freezing or is just the back key randomly not responding to touch? If its the latter, then you need to do an exchange. Common problem.
I used to have this issue but it eventually went away. It happened after they replaced my screen.
I used to have this and assumed it was a hardware thing, changing roms sorted it.
I have no idea why this is the case and when someone else said as much I thought it couldn't be the case but I'd suggest you flash a different ROM and see how you get on.
I have this problem also. Mine will go dark and exit out of anything I'm doing as if I was pressing it. Gets old sometimes

I started getting this about two months into the life of my Nexus. In the process of exchanging mine now in the hours that I get an unaffected unit.

My first one did this constantly so I exchanged it and so far so good with the new one.
Looks like a bad batch of ns4g's went out. Mine is doing this too. Not very ofter but enough that I notice it.

Actually it affects all Nexus S models. I think it is touch panel driver bug.

Whenever I turn on my screen, I see lines or a fuzzy gray box flashing across my screen. They go away in less than a second, but I am afraid that my screen is broken. This also happened on my first charge, so I was wondering if the cause could be my battery which I bought on ebay (samsung 1500mah). Also, my new phone almost never connects to 4g even though my old one got full bars.
Please help, I googled my problem and came up with nothing. I still have my first phone, could I send back the same phone they sent me in the box?
Thank you.
What you see on your screen is apparently common for other charge owners myself included. Saw it mentioned as screen "static"in a thread on here somewhere which it can look like sometimes. I don't think it's been associated with any screen issues so I wouldn't trip on it too hard over it. I'll take that quirky behavior with the screen quality!

It is pretty crazy how people who have the skyrocket ignore that the screen looks awful when dim. Its even worse that Samsung has not stopped production to fix the problem either. You would think the white one would come with a fixed screen. Usually by this time you have people writing reviews and ranting about phone defects on YouTube, yet with this phone nothing. Just hoping someone agrees with me and maybe we can stick these problem up samsungs behind.

Dont think anyone cares that much
Why use the screen dimmed? Kinda defeats the purpose of having a super amoled

Agreed.
I have mine set at 50% and its bright enough for me all the time.
I never go lower than that though, so I personally never experience poor screen quality.

I've never notice the problems mentioned throughout the forum regarding dim settings and colors/lines. I'm sure that to a good eye mine is too afflicted.
One a side note, took my screen protector off today, and man! is that screen gorgeous. It's gonna be hard to put it back on, but I learned that lesson with the Atrix when I took it's protection off and it hit the ground.
You see, and that is the problem. You are ignoring to issue. So when your in a dark room you have your screen full brightness? I don't so it does bother me.

I agree my screen sucks at low brightness. I mainly run my low to save power only turn it up when outside. I wrote a review on Samsung site and did give a bad review on the screen.

I just picked up a white skyrocket yesterday and I've got the screen issues / lines. Looks like a "brushed metal" overlay on top of everything.
I'm going to be getting it exchanged for a new one tomorrow.

Maybe I got lucky... I've had my I727-SR for about 4wks now and haven't experienced the screen lines / screen problems others are posting.... I consistently run at low brightness with a screen protector and screen looks perfect.... no lines, blobs or other anomalies.

Mine has it. So does the white one I looked at. It bothers me and I notice it often. But its the only phone on AT&T that I want and LTE just went live a week ago. I will sadly have to live with it :-(

SMH ! Get over it! A few slightly lines which is only visible when phone is up your nose an on a dark grey background on 0% brightness, is the end of the world run!!!

Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda premium
just picked one up today. white one.
i see the lines below 50% brightness. above, they are gone.
I believe this is just a simple issue of having the same pixel density of the galaxy S2 but with a larger screen.
this should be device wide.......i dont see why people should have different results....
edit: i have it only above 30% brightness actually....
No problems here... at 0 it still looks great, no lines or weird issues

I have personally seen this vary from device to device. what may not be that bad on yours could be 20x's worse on another. others of us are in fact picky and expect more for what we paid for this device.
To each their own

When I play video ie Netflix YouTube etc I notice that the picture quality is not.what I expect.from a 250$ phone. I love this phone and that is.my only complaint. I have tried.adjusting.the brightness but it doesn't seem to help. Is this a problem that all are having?
I just got the Skyrocket today and just now turned the brightness all the way down and did not see any issues with screen clarity. Looks pretty good to me.
Infused with Android DNA
Mine has the same issues. However, they are ignorable if you customize the look of your phone. I changed the screen density and customized my phone with a dark bg and modified system apks.

I just want to get a consensus on two issues I've noticed with the upgrade to Android M.
First, is anyone else having a problem when swapping batteries around the 15% mark the phone not recognizing the proper battery power after swap. (I.e. still indicating low power)
Second, with headphones plugged in if you restart phone it will not boot past the LG screen or AT&T screen.

Well thats sucks. Sorry to hear your having issues. Could you tell me how you updated to MM? Aswell as if you did it over wifi or data connection?
Over wifi. I've factory reset my phone since having those issues and it's still there. I'm mostly wondering if there is anyone else cause I would like to make a report to AT&T through a family member that works with the company.

MM has been out for a little over 4 months and i havent seen your same issues reported. Not say nobody is having them. But im not even finding them in the tech media stream. Its mostly MM specific, not carrier. So at&t probably is not going to do anything, if they even have the ability. As far as your case goes, i would look into getting a new one.

I had the battery indicator issue once. I've had MM on my v10 since it was available for ATT and never had the issue until about 2 weeks ago. It seems to be a one time random thing for me because it hasn't happened again. I am having issues with what looks like screen burn in but I know it's not that since its an LCD. Most of the time it's there and sometimes it's not. I don't think it's related to MM because I noticed the same thing on LP.

Its true LCD screens dont burn, but they do produce "ghost images" from the same cause of image burn. LCD screens also require a still image on the screen longer for them to produce the "ghost images" but usually are not permanent. So if you have not left your phone on a single image for a long period of time, then you probably have a faulty screen.
