SMS bug 9.1.0.252 - Huawei Mate 9 Questions & Answers

So last night I received the update for 9.1.0.252 and it automatically updated overnight. Now everytime I try to open the stock messaging app it immediately closes and it has wiped out my SMS history. I then tried clearing the messaging app cache and it hasn't fixed anything. I have also tried installing a third party SMS app and even then I can't receive any SMS's. Is it just me or anyone having this problem too or better yet have potential solutions.
Edit close thread. Turns out it's a problem with my root

Thanks mate all fixed now. Was planning to wait till Magisk got updated but now i dont have to. :good:

For me that exact command did not work...
The problem was that I had sub folders in that path.
But the command rm -R instead of only rm solved the problem for me!

Misnamed apps? Wrong versions? Fix here

Taking some advice I saw on the BAW forum one step further, I deleted the entire /data/boot-cache directory (after doing a nandroid backup of course).
Took about 3-4 extra minutes to boot up, presumably to recreate the contents of the directory, but now all of my apps are showing the correct version, correct icon, and correct name. Haven't run into any issues yet.
I didn't want to suggest this just in case something else would mess up. If you have a lot of bad apps this is perhaps faster than deleting each one.

Hey there you are! Hah.
I did have a lot of bad apps and had some trouble finding the proper directories for a few. I had just done a backup so I thought I'd give it a try.
I also figured this was the perfect place to suggest it for people to try - around here people are smart enough to do real backups before they start deleting things
Is this with just rooting the phone or after you install the custom rom?

I haven't touched the custom ROM yet. You do need to root the phone to do this, and it must be done from a shell.

It should, yes. I had a bunch of apps misnamed in that way (EasyMoney, Spades, a few others) and it fixed them.
One of them, Buka Lite, reverted back, though.
I tried this out and all the programs I'd been having issues with were fixed. I rebooted. Still fixed.
But then I installed three updates and after reboot, the same issue came back again. There must be another cache store somewhere...maybe Android Market related, or at least the Android package manager. Either way, I guess some more digging is in order.

I think there's just a bug with the way the phone handles the cache. Did the versions go back to what they were before you deleted the cache, or what they were after you deleted the cache and before you updated the apps?
Looks like the versions didn't revert. Last night, I used aTrackDog to send myself a list of all my apps. I can't remember the three that I updated today, but the two I do remember, Flixster Movies and Handcent did not revert.
Lastnight:
Movies,2.0.1
Handcent Sms,2.9.12
Now:
Movies,2.1.0
Handcent Sms,2.9.13
Well, I decided to remove Dolphin browser since I noticed it kept opening up and running in the background (active, at least that's what Taskiller says). Of course, the next reboot caused all the icons to get messed up again.
So, I thought to look for other cache directories. Does anyone think that deleting /data/dalvik-cache in addition to the /data/boot-cache directory might help? Is it safe to try it out? I'm assuming it'll just get repopulated automatically.

After you install any updates you will have to continue to remove the /data/boot-cache version until HTC/Sprint fixes the bug.

Would uninstalling the original, then installing the newest version alleviate the issue? As opposed to just update the app...

Nope. I even tried uninstalling, rebooting twice, then installing again. Reverted on next boot.

Damn. It sounded good in theory.
I had this issue with Google Sky Maps and it worked to let me back in. What was displaying after a day or so renamed itself to 'End User License Agreement' and wouldn't let me get past the EULA screen, only offering the option to force close.
The only caveat is that now Sky Maps is still named 'End User License Agreement', but it at least let's me in.
Odd
I tried removing both boot-cache and dalvik-cache. Didn't make any difference...eventually, the errors return if/when you update or install an app.
this must be a bug with the hero. i had the Moment and no apps renamed themselves at all. reset after reset the apps were fine. i reset my hero once and it messes up the apps
Doh! Doesn't seem like there's any easy perm fix in sight... hope it doesn't happen w/ 2.0 and Sense...

LBC 0.6 - No alert on recieving txt message

When i recieve a txt message i get no alert or flashing light with LBC 0.6. I also have other issues being:
Txt messages show phone numbers instead of names
Power down doesn't actually power down, it appears to hibernate instead.
I would report them in the developers section but can't due to forum limits on new users.
Not upgraded as yet myself as not had opportunity, but do intend to tomorrow.
did you perform the required wipes pre install? (have to ask)

I had the same problem. i reinstalled the rom using rom manager (clean install) with the "sense 3 sms" checked. now it works perfectly
Thanks for the suggestion. I have installed without a clean install and I get an error message on screen when receiving a txt.
I shall try with a clean install 2moz.
If it works I shall report the issue to lbc so that he can fix the base Rom.

I'm faced with the same bug like you, Don't receive any Text-Notifications. Well, I do a full wipe before it (System/data/cache/dalvik) and using the 2.1 Version. I'm now using GO SMS and it works well. But I think I'll give the 3.0 Sms a try
just my personal opinion, the Sense v3 SMS application is much better anyway, has more features and more user friendly !
Tried the following:
full wipe
install LBC 0.6
install sms app 3.0 addon
still no alert when recieving messages
Time to post in the developers section!
Shameless pad to allow me to post in development

Have now upgraded to v0.6.0, although I only wiped the Cache and Dalvik Cache and didn't perform the recommended full wipe as didn't have the time for the full setup - so took a chance.
Was originally runnning LBC 0.5.4
Booted to Recovery
Took full Nandroid backup
Wiped CACHE
Wiped DALVIK CACHE
flashed v0.6.0 ROM (did previously edit ZIP to remove some APK's (including EXT4 recovery - as had issue with upgrade))
flashed Google Apps Add on
flashed selection of Sense 3 Components (Weather & Lock Scren, Black Ring, Live Wallpapaper, Weather Sounds, SMS App) [Not 3d Rosie]
Booted and all fine, I get normal SMS notifications, no issues to report to date.

Can always count on Ben for a thorough recap
However I read from others that sms will work fine if you also flash the sense 3 lockscreen. I'm choosing to stick with the default so I would like to get the sms working without the new lockscreen.
I'm going to flash the sms app again to see if that patches the problem up. But will take a while before someone actually sends me a text

Whatsapp keeps disappearing (NXT-AL10, Nougat B575, Unlocked BL, Root)

Hey guys,
I would like to know if anyone here has experience such an issue before. Recently updated my ROM from KangVIP Slim B357 to Nougat B575 Stock. Bootloader is unlocked, Root Access is given and everything seems to be working smoothly.
BUT
Whatsapp keeps disappearing on me! Ive tried installing it from the Play Store and manually via ApkMirror, but no dice. Once I reboot my phone, the icon is gone, both in the app drawer and the home screen.
The issue keeps happening, no matter how many times I keep reinstalling it. Whats interesting though: When I check /Data/App, there is a separate Whatsapp folder being generated with each new install. I have already deleted all folder after manually uninstalling Whatsapp, but a fresh install after reboot still doesnt stick after the following reboot....
So, anyone seen this before? Tried googling, but no luck there either.
Thanks in advance!

Notifications Issues on Nougat Android 7.0
WhatsApp Users
For all of you who have been lamenting the poor notification situation on Nougat, cried over the fact that you only see the most recent message making the whole "notification" thing completely useless, things are looking out.
In version 2.17.24 (grab it from http://www.apkmirror.com/apk/whatsapp-inc/whatsapp/whatsapp-2-17-24-release/ ), WhatsApp has properly implemented notifications on Android 7.0 and 7.1 Nougat devices.
Did I help you? A ''thanks :good:'' would be highly appreciated
thx for the reply, but Im afraid you misunderstood ^^ im not having problems with notifications of whatsapp but the app itself. it completely disappears without a trace whenever i reboot / switch off my phone! and i have already tried the latest 2.17.24 version of the apk, still the same....

trying move whatsapp to system > app or priv-app maybe fixing this problem,,,, but really this is strange issue.
i debrand my L29 to AL10 and to DL00 many times and don't have this problem it's normal if whatsapp not working ! but disappearing really wired
edit
maybe it's hidden are you using any other launcher?
im using nova launcher. ill check again if there are any hidden app options, but i doubt it. better to be safe than sorry though...
on my previous install (kangvip b357, al10, nova launcher) i had whatsapp installed as a system app for notifications to come through. did a backup with titanium backup, but it wouldnt restore system apps on nougat. so i just installed from the play store and then restored the data & settings through TiBu.
unfortunately, that didnt work for whatsapp, so i installed it from playstore and just copied the whatsapp folder from my previous install to restore messages and still have the media.
i have also tried converting it to a system app, both through TiBu and manually, but ive only tried system/app, not priv-app. on the previous install it was in system/app though and worked like a charm.
luckily, i only reboot my phone like once a week, so for the time being, whatsapp works as intended. just that i have to backup, reinstall and restore after every reboot...annoying!

Facebook messenger showing white screen - chats not loading

Since yesterday my Facebook messenger app stopped working.
The chats are not loaded anymore, showing a white screen. Previously it worked fine without any issues in the app.
Tried to re-install the app, cleared data and cache. Even cleared all cache and dalvik cache.
Running CyanogenOS 13 6.0.1 Latest official OPO build.
Anyone ever experienced this error? And know how to resolve it?

Nope just the normal one from the Google play store. Nothing was changed just stopped working suddenly.
I installed another theme for CMTE last week without issues. So i'm wondering maybe some server sided issue?

Well i tried to disable AdAway blocking but that doesn't help either. I'm considering to perform a factory reset.. However its still a lot of work (restoring all data again..) so i don't want to but i think i don't have a choice.
Do you know if there is a way to preserve the creation dates on Android? For files and folders. Previously i zipped all my data but that took hours and resulted in a corrupt zip. I can't keep my data when performing a factory reset i suppose?
Instead of factory reset, can you try a dirtyflash of the ROM you are currently using? That will keep all your data.
Find your flashable signed zip here: https://forums.oneplus.net/threads/mirrors-for-official-cyanogen-roms-ota-updates.141825/

My WhatsApp is crashing when I call someone

Hi,
My WhatsApp is crashing whenever I call somebody, whether it's video call or voice call.
I have attached the Report.
Any help is appreciated...
Did you try reinstalling or some modified WhatsApp version?
Mine too. Whenever I try to make a call or a videocall, it crashes. Android 7.0, factory reset (three times because of this, no sucess!). Last version of Google Play and Whatsapp page downloaded file. Always forced close. Permissions, cache (camera, whatsapp, phone...), whatever tried, but keeps failing.

Because, It would be hard for me to start everything from scratch.

Thank You...
You don't have to delete your old WhatsApp. Just install YoWhatsapp and try it. Go back to the old one after it.
From the screenshot you shared, it looks like a bug in WhatsApp or database upgrade didn't happen properly when you last updated the WhatsApp.
The SQLite query saying ambiguous column name which happens while executing an Inner join and at least one column in both tables has the same column name.
You can try the following:
1. Clear Data, Cache, and re-configure the app
2. Uninstall and Reinstall the latest version
3. If nothing works, skip the backup restore while setting up the app
