Sim card slot 1 not working out of the box. - ASUS ZenFone 6 (2019) Questions & Answers

I have just got my Zenfone 6. Initially I did not insert any sim cards as they were in the other phone. I then start setting up the phone...updating the firmware and the usual stuff. It was only after it was setup that I transfer the sim cards over. Only then I found out that it is unable to detect the sim card 1. I am not sure if it is a software bug or something.
There is nothing wrong with the sim because I have 2 and I can swap them around. The sim card at slot 2 will always be detected. I have tried everything. I am running the latest firmware, I have factory reset my phone. I even tried to add some tape to the back of the sim card to make it thicker. None of it work.
Only thing I have not tried is to downgrade the firmware. I tried downloading the older firmware, putting it in the SD card to try and flash it from recovery, however it detects that it is an older firmware and does not allow a downgrade.

If you don't have your first SIM disabled in the Settings, then it is a probably HW problem (bended contact or manufacturing fault). Unfortunately, you should exchange your phone for a new one or service it.

It happened once for me, but removing and reinserting sim tray fixed it for me. Not sure it is some flaky hardware at sim1 or software issue.

I hope it's software, waiting for the next update. Going to do a factory reset and flash the full FW, not the incremental OTA.

Even i was facing the similar problem when I got my new Asus. Played around with various settings. Then i thought let's just do a hard reset. And that worked for me.

You too? I did try factory reset. Is that the hard reset you are referring to?

Yes.. Hard reset.. Wipes everything.. That helped me

When you first got the phone, did you set it up without inserting any sim? It's only after you finish setting up then you move the sim cards over?

Yep, when I get a new phone, the first thing I always do is factory reset to make sure everything is as it should be.
It doesn't hurt and it could prevent possible problems.

[Q] HD3 no signal!!~~ :(

I bought my hd3 in china .it was unlocked, originally sold to hongkong.
after I went back to the U.S. I kept using my chinese sim card, and everything worked fine. when 7720 released ( it was a long time ago) , I swiped my cell phone, and from then on, my hd3 always tells me that 'no network found'. I tried to search network manually, and I see att and tmobile, but cannot register. now the signal icon has an empty set symbol,...and I don't know what's wrong???
p.s. my att sim card works well on my hd3...I've tried different roms, none of them helped.
the problem is solved, I inserted my chinese sim card into an android phone and it successfully registered in att, and then when i inserted it back onto my hd3, i got the signal LOL.. ..i've no idea why this happened, wish this may help to someone got the same prob.

yes,i've tried many times
it can detect the right carrier, but doesn't really help
Sounds like you may have to do a hard reset and then reinstall Setup Connection. During the configuration setup after the hard reset you can tell it what region/country you are in now; same for Setup Connection.

thanks for your advice, i just don't understand why should i hard reset the phone. as i tried many roms, each time i swiped in a new rom, the rom was brandly new, like a factory reset, and each time connection setup doesn't work.
i'll take your advice and see if this works out.
btw, i can't see your pic, it's too small. is it something relate to hard reset or ?
no, it doesn't work. T0T
You said your ATT sim works fine... why use the chinese one then? Also i think ATT will give you a new sim if you are under contract with them. You are paying for service aren't u?

[q] no sim issue

Having a huge issue here need some help, I recently finally got my unlock code from ATT and was very happy, I applied my unlock code with a SIM I had at work and all was good, I will be traveling out of country and had an Ekit SIM decided to test with the phone, it worked fine, then I went to put in my ATT SIM (i had it cut for microsim size, so I`m using adapter, but never had issues) and now I get the little no SIM sign and no service, interesting part is that the signal bars seemed to go up maybe just cosmetic...
I was on the ICS and then went back to SkyICS which is 2.3.5 but my modem statyed on UCLA4, I found the older 3 modem and now it shows no bars but still SIM is not working, I tried multiple SIM cards and always show the SIM symbols and when I go to mobile networks it says SIM is not present. Please help me as this is my primary phone and Im stuck, I really wouldnt like to reset everything.
If it was me I'd make a nandroid backup, then ODIN flash the Samsung official stock I727 UCKJ2 2.3.5 firmware from sammobile here. After flashing stock, booted into stock e3 recovery and do a wipe data/factory reset and see if that resolves the 'no sim' issue. If the phone still doesn't recognize the AT&T sim, take it into an AT&T store and request a new sim card. If it's still borked even with a new sim card they should swap it under warranty.

I guess I have to try to go to Stock, no choice here, I know its not the SIM tried in wifes phone and its fine, also that EKit SIM that just worked in the phone does not, could I some how damaged the SIM card holder ?
Sounds like it could be the sim slot. Anyway, if you put it back to stock you'll have not issues at the store when you swap it. Then restore your nandroid backup on the new phone.

Only thing is I bought this phone on ebay back in January, its registered under my account and everything, and I got it brand new. I hope ATT will repair/replace under warranty. Sad thing is I was fighting with ATT for 2 weeks to get this phone unlocked and finally got it now I have to swap it and go thru the same process .
I dont get how this happened, this is not the first time I swap SIMs and all was good, I think its pretty hard to break a SIM slot, but I guess I did it some how. So Pissed off right now its not even funny
Just as a long shot, maybe try cleaning the sim card contacts with a pink pencil eraser. Sounds crazy, but I have a Garmin running watch and the contacts on the back sometimes get dirty and it won't sync with my PC, so I just 'erase' them a bit and it's back in action.
If AT&T won't do the warranty swap, Samsung will directly-- although that's a little more of a hassle. Good luck!

The card and the slot contacts, if you can get at them.
Also, you said the card is cut and in an adapter - maybe it's just not quite lining up with the slot pins. Try it with the card not quite fully pushed into the slot.

Yep was able to backup and flash stock from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1342348. still same no sim, I cleaned the SIM and the slot, even tried with some compressed air nothing all the same... I guess I`ll go to ATT store, do they usually replace phones on the spot ? I`m used to going to apple store where they just replace it... This really sucks !
I don't know if this will help, but have you tried manually inputting the APN for whatever carrier SIM you have at the moment? It's worth a shot
Edit: and are they LTE SIMS?

No sim issue

Have a i727 with no sim issue. According to previous owner the problem started after the phone was dropped (no water damage) and phone store said that it needs a new sim card reader. So I replaced the sim card reader and still getting no sim. Was running stock rom and radio.
Any help is greatly appreciated
I have tried another sim tray but still the same result. I've even tried flashing stock using odin. I see the IMEI number so i don't think its efs issue.
I've also checked online to see if the IMEI is black listed. Would blacklisted IMEI cause this?
any one has any ideas?
Thanks
New SIM tray
After I replaced my tray, I had the same issue. Trying different things, from recovery (I use TWRP) I fixed permissions and that fixed my issue. Obviously can't guarantee it'll help, but worth a try.

Anyway to recover from this?

T-Mobile Variant OP7P, was on Latest Pixel Experience+, Sim Unlocked, Unlocked Bootloader - Went to transition the phone back to T-Mobile stock OOS, not sure what happened. But since, The Sim card is recognized, but carrier and phone # are not, resulting in no service, also cannot modify APN settings.
Have tried to MSM back to all different firmware, remains the same, SIM Active, but not usable for mobile data or anything else
Try clearing the sim toolkit data, clear system cache and network reset.
Replace sim card. They are suspectable to ESD; always handle them like a stick of ram. While they are dirt cheap, a failure can prove costly in other ways.
A factory reset to purge it if less drastic measures don't work.
Not sure, never had to play with that.

Hello, I was previously on a htc u11 and had something similar as in no data connection and no wifi, Mac address issue,,the thing that fixed my problem was an "erase persist" command in bootloader, not saying this will help your problem , just throwing it out there.

I MSM'd to stock firmware versions around 10 times, nothing different. Should've mentioned that the SIM works fine on my other phone, thing is totally clueless on how to read my SIM card it seems, registers as having one inserted and all, just doesn't do anything
Cannot even access APN settings when updated to the latest TMO Android 11, started from first Android 9 distro and continued updating on both paths, TMO and International versions of OOS, even tried flashing back to Pixel Experience- the ROM that was being used right before this took place.

Hard reboot stimulates pulling the battery. Not normally found in recovery. Done by holding down a button(s) depending on the phone or physically disconnecting the battery.

Question eSIM Broken, Sim Manager Screen Frozen, Unable to remove eSIM

Hi all, currently having an issue with my phone which I am unable to resolve. I'm beginning to think I may have completely broken my phone.
Yesterday I decided to install a Lycamobile eSIM on my phone. In doing so, it has broken SIM manager and also caused my device to stop recognising my physical SIM (which is with EE).
I've attached a photo of the issue. Here's what happens.
When I enter SIM Manager, the loading animation continues for quite a while. As you can see, the eSIM has no phone number assigned to it, and my physical SIM, which is inserted in SIM slot 1, is not recognised.
Whenever the loading animation decides to stop, er, loading, I access the eSIM. When I click to remove the eSIM nothing happens.
If I scroll down and go into More SIM settings and click to Remove all eSIMs, nothing happens.
I was on the phone to EE today for about an hour and a half. In that time, they tried to get me to install an eSIM but it didn't work. Every time I try to install it, the screen simply vanishes, taking me back to SIM manager.
After exhausting my options with EE, they referred me to Samsung. Samsung told me to contact Lycamobile, who in turn have decided to send me a new QR code in order to install a new eSIM...which also did not work.
I have reset network settings. I have cleared the cache partition. I have factory reset the phone twice. I read that apparently you should get the option to remove an eSIM when you factory reset, but I'm not sure if that applies to Samsung phones and that option has never been available to me. I did contemplate flashing the firmware (it has been many a year since I did that), but it appears that this wouldn't resolve the issue.
I'm stumped. The phone is in warranty, so I suppose I could send it back to Samsung, but unsure if and how they would be able to sort it.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.
Try this: put a sim card in the 2nd slot and then try removing the eSIM.

Unfortunately the physical SIM is still not recognised in slot two, and I am still unable to remove the eSIM. As I said, whenever I access the eSIM and press Remove it doesn't work.
Have the same problem. Trying to fix it for a second day now.
What I tried so far:
Factory reset
Clear cache
Tried to remove it - nothing
Reset network settings
Reinserting sims in different variations
Checked physical sim in different phone - which works
Tried to reflash it with Odin, esim still there
Has anyone got some different ideas of what to do?
Thanks

If a factory reset doesn't fix a problem, then it means a bug in the software. This is unacceptable bug. You should try getting a replacement under warranty.
I'm assuming phone is unlocked. Any particular reason you are using EE firmware? I would try, via Odin, unbranded firmware
Samsung punted me back to EE and sent me a repair centre. They managed to fix it. According to the repair notes they replaced some hardware:
"Replaced a part that holds internal parts in place."
"Replaced an internal flex component."
"Replaced the main board (?!) inside your device."
They also flashed some firmware, which they say on the repair note was "the latest version" but I got a security update download notification as soon as the phone was setup.
This was done at a same day repair centre and I got the phone back after a couple of hours, which was unexpected.

To answer this question: EE are my network provider, and thus is a contract phone. The phone is unlocked though, EE did confirm that to me. I would have flashed firmware as a last resort but was keen to explore every other solution first. In the end, EE did manage to fix it by replacing some internal components (detailed in the post above).

Great! All well then
Sorry to bring up an older topic but is there any other suggestions to get this solved. I've got the exact same issue caused by a Lycamobile SIM. I've sent my phone back to Samsung but they won't repair under warranty because of minor cosmetic damage and I don't want to pay for an expensive repair for something that seems like it's a software issue.
