Question eSIM Broken, Sim Manager Screen Frozen, Unable to remove eSIM - Samsung Galaxy S22 Ultra

Hi all, currently having an issue with my phone which I am unable to resolve. I'm beginning to think I may have completely broken my phone.
Yesterday I decided to install a Lycamobile eSIM on my phone. In doing so, it has broken SIM manager and also caused my device to stop recognising my physical SIM (which is with EE).
I've attached a photo of the issue. Here's what happens.
When I enter SIM Manager, the loading animation continues for quite a while. As you can see, the eSIM has no phone number assigned to it, and my physical SIM, which is inserted in SIM slot 1, is not recognised.
Whenever the loading animation decides to stop, er, loading, I access the eSIM. When I click to remove the eSIM nothing happens.
If I scroll down and go into More SIM settings and click to Remove all eSIMs, nothing happens.
I was on the phone to EE today for about an hour and a half. In that time, they tried to get me to install an eSIM but it didn't work. Every time I try to install it, the screen simply vanishes, taking me back to SIM manager.
After exhausting my options with EE, they referred me to Samsung. Samsung told me to contact Lycamobile, who in turn have decided to send me a new QR code in order to install a new eSIM...which also did not work.
I have reset network settings. I have cleared the cache partition. I have factory reset the phone twice. I read that apparently you should get the option to remove an eSIM when you factory reset, but I'm not sure if that applies to Samsung phones and that option has never been available to me. I did contemplate flashing the firmware (it has been many a year since I did that), but it appears that this wouldn't resolve the issue.
I'm stumped. The phone is in warranty, so I suppose I could send it back to Samsung, but unsure if and how they would be able to sort it.
Any advice would be hugely appreciated.

Try this: put a sim card in the 2nd slot and then try removing the eSIM.

Unfortunately the physical SIM is still not recognised in slot two, and I am still unable to remove the eSIM. As I said, whenever I access the eSIM and press Remove it doesn't work.

Have the same problem. Trying to fix it for a second day now.
What I tried so far:
Factory reset
Clear cache
Tried to remove it - nothing
Reset network settings
Reinserting sims in different variations
Checked physical sim in different phone - which works
Tried to reflash it with Odin, esim still there
Has anyone got some different ideas of what to do?
Thanks

If a factory reset doesn't fix a problem, then it means a bug in the software. This is unacceptable bug. You should try getting a replacement under warranty.

I'm assuming phone is unlocked. Any particular reason you are using EE firmware? I would try, via Odin, unbranded firmware

Samsung punted me back to EE and sent me a repair centre. They managed to fix it. According to the repair notes they replaced some hardware:
"Replaced a part that holds internal parts in place."
"Replaced an internal flex component."
"Replaced the main board (?!) inside your device."
They also flashed some firmware, which they say on the repair note was "the latest version" but I got a security update download notification as soon as the phone was setup.
This was done at a same day repair centre and I got the phone back after a couple of hours, which was unexpected.

To answer this question: EE are my network provider, and thus is a contract phone. The phone is unlocked though, EE did confirm that to me. I would have flashed firmware as a last resort but was keen to explore every other solution first. In the end, EE did manage to fix it by replacing some internal components (detailed in the post above).

Great! All well then

Sorry to bring up an older topic but is there any other suggestions to get this solved. I've got the exact same issue caused by a Lycamobile SIM. I've sent my phone back to Samsung but they won't repair under warranty because of minor cosmetic damage and I don't want to pay for an expensive repair for something that seems like it's a software issue.

Hello, I purchased a galaxy tab 7 plus in Hong Kong. All work great until 2 days ago, I inserted another Sim card then it now says no Sim card. I tried with several other Sim cards but no luck, I did a factory reset, flashed with firmware from Sam mobile but still no luck, I don't know what else to do before I send it to Samsung for repair that gonna be expensive, help is greatly wanted, thank you.

Try to insert the sim card with the tablet on. Does it restart? If not are you sure you are inserting it with the correct side?
Hello, thanks for the answer, I tried all that already, anyway the Sim only fit in one position so you cannot take wrong.
The tab restarts when inserting card yes.
I tried also taking the battery out for 10 mins... Clean the head of the Sim compartment but no luck.

Just removed the back by pushing under the sd card slot then inserted a flat tool to unclip the lid, then removed the batery connector.
However i still have the issue, its driving me crazy as it is my working tool...
does the original SIM still work in it?
perhaps try flashing original & latest frimware updates for new/different modem.
I know one chinese version of tab plus has locked bootloaded dud to China's restrictions, I would not be surprised if they have locked down modem as well.
And for the heck of it you could always try Galaxy S Unlock app, to be certain you're unlocked.
Strongly suggest backing up /EFS folder (twice) just in case.
Thanks for the suggestion, I flashed the device twice already but there is only one file. Could you direct me to the files you are referring to please I'll take a look when I'm back home, thanks again.

I would try EVERYTHING else before flashing a new modem. Toggle airplane mode. disable/enable packet data, etc.
First, does the original SIM still work?
If so I would give the Galaxy S Unlock a shot for the heck of it.
These other SIMs have you tried them in other devices to either make sure they work or activate them?
did you purchase device on a SIM contract??
sim issue
The original sim does work, i have put it in other phones and it works fine, i have also tried other sim but still same issue, message still say "please insert sim card"
I have purchased the tab sim free in hk so no, no contract, it did work fine since december until 2 days ago where i input a data only sim card, when i insert sim card it does reboot, meaning it detects the card in the socket but thats it.
Concerning Galaxy S Unlock my tab is not rooted i have used only legit firmware until now so im not sure about that.
PS: looking at my phone servie status it says:
Service State: Out of service
Are you sure you havent been sold a bad or expired sim card?
Id try to give samsung customer support a call at least, they will probably tell you to send it to them anyway.
Can you try exchanging this for another one where you puchased it?
Well, i bought it during my holidays in hk but i live in norway, so... bit difficult to chage it, the sim card works just fine in other devices so it should work in tab.
I tried the galaxy s unlock and during step 1 it says error for efs backup, so either because im not rooted or because my efs is corrupted.
Probably because youre not rooted.
Im wondering if the SIM could be from a small provider which isnt recognized by the device?
It should at least dected then say something like network provider unrecognized, etc.
I really dont what to say.
I would keep trying other sims, try to get a 5$ pre pay from a major carrier like O2, 3, tmobile, etc. not sure what carriers you have over there.
Well i use Telenor which is the biggest and also quite big in europe, i will call customer service tomorrow and hear what they say, but i fear its gonna rip my pockets...

did you push the simcard all the way to the bottom of the slot?
I need a pen to push it....so I wonder if you insert your sim card properly.

yes, since the first time, repair shop said they cannot help since device has been purchased in hong kong...
No solutions until today...
Solved
After dismantling the tab completely (hard work guys...) i confirm that the sim card reader is defect, the cushions that reads the card did not press completely on it so i applied a temporary fix by adding an extra layer to thicken the card so it can press correctly on the cushions. I did try this fix before with the tablet in one piece, however i could not get it to work correctly.
Anyway thanks for your help and i'm happy that i can use it again

'Mobile Networks' Disappeared from Settings

I have the 920F model and activated it with a UK sim a few months ago.. Have been using a US sim for the past 2 weeks, but today I went into an area with no service for a bit. Went back into an area with service and suddenly it says 'Not registered on network' when I go to make a call and 'No SIM card'.
I have gone into flight mode, cleaned and checked SIM (not a problem with the card), and then when I went to check the APN settings I noticed there was no way to get into my 'Mobile Network' settings! Its just gone!
Is it possible that it has reverted back to the European region lock and is awaiting a European SIM to be inserted before I can re-insert my US?
If it is a region lock, is there anyway to unlock it without using a European SIM as I no longer have mine and dont have quick access to one either.
Any help is appreciated. Hoping there is an easier fix.
I think airplane mode disables that menu. Did you try to take it out of airplane mode again before looking for the menu?

Yeah, its not in flight mode anymore. I think it might be a region-lock issue but no way of knowing until I can get my hands on a UK sim!

Im currently having the same problem with my 920f. I dont think it is region lovk because i am using mine in the same region that it was produced for. If you have fixed the issue pls tell me how you did it. I also noticed that whenever you connect it to the pc, it is not being recognised.

If you go into your settings, under 'connections' does Mobile Networks appear? Try checking your APN Settings if so.
Has anyone found soution to this issue, and how did you fix it?
I am facing the same issue with my Galaxy S7 Edge (dual Sim) as i was traveling to another country (Europe). My phone is unlocked. I had to reboot in order to get back the "Mobile Networks" option.

SN and IMEI is good in about the phone, when dialing *#06#, and in service mode (*#0011#) says IMEI: OK.
As for sw, I don`t see anything that is not good, anymore.
For half a year I am trying to find a solution to this issue, tried almost everything, even writing clean cert.
Last thing I am going to try is sim reader replacement, at the begining of next month, and see if that will help.
any progress on the issue? im having the exact problem, was using it one day and it just started saying 'no sim card' inserted even tho when i put in a sim it says 'sim card added' but right after goes back to saying 'no sim card inserted' , plus the mobile networks option had disappeared from settings. also, mine does not connect to my computer and it charges slow. my technician diagnosed it as either the mother board issue or the usb port and sim card reader issues respectively. will try a factory rest and see if that's any help.
*update* factory reset did not help.
I just upgraded to 6.0.1, canadian G920W8, I put it in airplane mode, I removed airplane mode and the cell network never got back up.
Thoughts?
I was able to get my connectivity back after a factory reset from the recovery partition. I am now afraid to push on "airplane mode" as I fear I will be locked out of service again...
factory reset did not work for me, tried both from recovery and settings, any other solution?
Hello!
I'm having the same problem. Is anyone who tried the software downgrade to lollipop??
I tried both Lolipop and Marshmallow, still the same..
anyone figured this out ? I have exact problem on my sm-g930f.

AT&T H950 update and recovery problems

It's an H950 from the $250 ebay deal. I am on ATT service and the phone worked fine at H95010d
I contacted ATT customer service and had them pushed OTA software update to me. The first agent pushed H95011x to me, and things went wrong since then.
The phone cannot read the sim card (but no missing sim notice), baseband shown as unknown, if I press the "status" under the "about phone" page, the screen will flash black then go back to the about phone page.
Then I tried a factory reset. The phone started normal as if everything was fine, it just works on the first boot after the reset. But once I restart the phone, it went back to the same situation as above. I tried many times and the whole process is highly repeatable.
After that, I contacted ATT again, had the H95011z pushed to me, and it did not change the problem. Replacing sim card does not help, either.
Then I tried to get to those recovery methods on the forum, including installing the LGE mobile device drivers. But then under download mode, the phone (LGE Android MTP device) is shown as "this device cannot start (code 10)". Thus I was not able to perform fix with the tools.
I am kinds of stuck in the middle. Any help and/or suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks!

I am having exactly the same problem. I also replaced the SIM card, but instead of trying the 11z version I tried the rooted 11x version without any change.
As you wrote, a factory reset will restore the ability to make calls until the first reboot. For data, there is no APN listed. Manually inputing the APN info will cause data to work perfectly, but all APN data is lost/missing again on reboot.

I've sent the phone back for an exchange, and the new one is coming tomorrow. Just noticed your reply.
So there is no fix for this? Or is there a problem with the ATT OTA update we should be aware of?

This may not be a widespread issue, so there might've been an issue particularly with your Flex (maybe corrupt file?). I've used 11x/z without encountering this.

Feels nervous when finding others had the same issue.
Just want to make sure if there's anything i should know of before dealing with the new unit coming tomorrow.
quick report:
Received the exchange. Seems new as the last one but does not contain the ATT sim as the last one did.
Tried update with date changing, for like 20 times no luck. Chatted ATT service to push the two updates (11x and 11z) in, one after another. Gone through the process without problem, and seems working fine now.
So, it may be device dependent or case specific. Thank you for your input.
I also had to send mine back. It's sitting on my front step now. The strange thing is that the email telling me the phone was being sent back only listed a speaker problem, which I did not have and never mentioned. We'll see.

Are you an AT&T customer? I can not get the update to come OTA, whether with an ATT valid SIM or a different SIM. I also tried calling and because I have a business ATT line, I got business support and the lady was clueless about pushing the update to my phone from her end.

What time of day are you calling? I found calling during east coast business hours got me the right people. Ask the agent if they can do a google search from their computer, when/if they say yes ask them to search for H95011x or H95011z. The first or second result should be the AT&T page that explains the update, once my rep had that info things went MUCH better. (I just noticed for me the first result is my post on this forum LOL)
I got my Flex 2 back and LG did nothing to fix it. The repair said "fixed speaker". I never said anything about a speaker. After a couple frustrated calls I had to send it a second time. The second time, it was returned "no problem found". The phone is unusable as it can only be used after a reset and before a reboot or power off. More fun with LG later today. Ultimately, though, the reps don't give a crap; I couldn't even get the last rep to increase shipping speed, even though they failed to repair it the first time.

Sim card slot 1 not working out of the box.

I have just got my Zenfone 6. Initially I did not insert any sim cards as they were in the other phone. I then start setting up the phone...updating the firmware and the usual stuff. It was only after it was setup that I transfer the sim cards over. Only then I found out that it is unable to detect the sim card 1. I am not sure if it is a software bug or something.
There is nothing wrong with the sim because I have 2 and I can swap them around. The sim card at slot 2 will always be detected. I have tried everything. I am running the latest firmware, I have factory reset my phone. I even tried to add some tape to the back of the sim card to make it thicker. None of it work.
Only thing I have not tried is to downgrade the firmware. I tried downloading the older firmware, putting it in the SD card to try and flash it from recovery, however it detects that it is an older firmware and does not allow a downgrade.
If you don't have your first SIM disabled in the Settings, then it is a probably HW problem (bended contact or manufacturing fault). Unfortunately, you should exchange your phone for a new one or service it.
It happened once for me, but removing and reinserting sim tray fixed it for me. Not sure it is some flaky hardware at sim1 or software issue.

I hope it's software, waiting for the next update. Going to do a factory reset and flash the full FW, not the incremental OTA.
Even i was facing the similar problem when I got my new Asus. Played around with various settings. Then i thought let's just do a hard reset. And that worked for me.

When you first got the phone, did you set it up without inserting any sim? It's only after you finish setting up then you move the sim cards over?
Yep, when I get a new phone, the first thing I always do is factory reset to make sure everything is as it should be.
It doesn't hurt and it could prevent possible problems.

Anyway to recover from this?

T-Mobile Variant OP7P, was on Latest Pixel Experience+, Sim Unlocked, Unlocked Bootloader - Went to transition the phone back to T-Mobile stock OOS, not sure what happened. But since, The Sim card is recognized, but carrier and phone # are not, resulting in no service, also cannot modify APN settings.
Have tried to MSM back to all different firmware, remains the same, SIM Active, but not usable for mobile data or anything else
Try clearing the sim toolkit data, clear system cache and network reset.
Replace sim card. They are suspectable to ESD; always handle them like a stick of ram. While they are dirt cheap, a failure can prove costly in other ways.
A factory reset to purge it if less drastic measures don't work.
Not sure, never had to play with that.

Hello, I was previously on a htc u11 and had something similar as in no data connection and no wifi, Mac address issue,,the thing that fixed my problem was an "erase persist" command in bootloader, not saying this will help your problem , just throwing it out there.

I MSM'd to stock firmware versions around 10 times, nothing different. Should've mentioned that the SIM works fine on my other phone, thing is totally clueless on how to read my SIM card it seems, registers as having one inserted and all, just doesn't do anything
Cannot even access APN settings when updated to the latest TMO Android 11, started from first Android 9 distro and continued updating on both paths, TMO and International versions of OOS, even tried flashing back to Pixel Experience- the ROM that was being used right before this took place.

Hard reboot stimulates pulling the battery. Not normally found in recovery. Done by holding down a button(s) depending on the phone or physically disconnecting the battery.
