Is there a workaround or any suggestions to get everything functional such as calls etc.
As of now only data works but you can't receive or send out messages, make calls etc.
When connected to H+ everything works flawlessly and the carrier shows, when connected to LTE only data works nothing else and the phone can't identify what carrier is being used.

UPDATE:
The issue seems to be that Verizon by default is locking the GSM radio. Users are reporting the same in the Moto X and Droid Ultra forum. Users using 4.4.2 on T-Mobile with a Verizon device.

They are SIM unlocked as I'm using one but it seems the band we need for LTE isn't playing well.

Was curious if anyone else was having this issue. Any thoughts that it might be related to skipping Verizon activation? When I got the phone, wasn't activated and on first turn on it prompted activating Verizon Sim but I exited out and just popped in T-Mobile Sim.

AFAIK, LTE (unless the carrier is using voLTE) is a data only network. Verizon uses LTE for data and CDMA for calls and text.
Verizon seems to only allow GSM/UMTS or CDMA/LTE on the M8 at one time, there doesn't seem to be a true Global mode that allows GSM/UMTS and LTE to run at the same time.
That would explain why people are reporting either LTE or calls/texting (which, as above mentioned, only works on 2G/3G (be that CDMA or GSM))
The question is, is there a way to get around this? On the S3/S4 there was an app called phoneinfo which showed more modes than the Mobile Network settings menu. Is there such a thing for the M8?
This is quite disappointing news for me, since this is the first Verizon phone I'm aware of that has the 1800MHz LTE band, and that's the band used in Australia where I'm headed soon. I was excited about being able to finally use LTE there! I guess I'll have a choice between LTE and calls/text like all those in this thread using T-Mobile.

Hoping the best that this would be the fix for the GSM
while you edit the data as well I believe
Will never get 4G LTE on any other carrier besides Verizon in the US. Never have. Never will. Those radio bands are blocked at chip level.

More than likely it is same as Verizon. Won't happen till they have voice and data both over AWS network. Currently on Verizon data is on LTE and voice is on CDMA. If can get into signal settings may be a way to lock the voice section in. It is not on LTE. Verizon has had the two linked since TBolt. Others have had a problem doing this. Has to be able to do dual band at same time. Also shouldn't get LTE at all if not in T-Mobile AWS area.
Unless T-Mobile rolls out voLTE and the M8 is compatible, the VZW M8 won't work for both call/sms and LTE data simultaneously. The other solution would be figuring out a new mode that allows LTE and GSM/UMTS to work together, maybe a software update will do that, but something tells me VZW isn't running to make our lives easier in this regard (Unless they start offering international 4G LTE roaming, then they'll have to fix this issue - and that might be on the horizon as this is the first VZW phone to have LTE bands that VZW doesn't use nor has any plans to use, such band 3 1800MHz)

Hi all, has anyone here tried or been successful in getting the data or lte over voice calls with Verizon's S6 using Tmobile? I have Tmobile and trying to use my gf's unlocked Verizon Galaxy S6. Almost everything works fine except that while on voice call, the signal drops to 1x and I can not simultaneously use data or receive mms. Are there any fixes for this? Any help would be appreciated as she is planning to switch from Verizon to Tmobile and I would love to just reuse the phone on Tmobile.
PS: Sorry not sure if this should be in a carrier specific thread. If so, not sure which one to choose since it sort of dual carrier concern

Try going to Settings > Mobile Networks > Network Mode and change it to LTE / GSM / UMTS and see if that helps.
I searched this but was unable to find any matching scenario. This is typical CDMA carrier's simultaneous voice and data issue. The phone (Galaxy Note 5) was bough from Verizon and gets 4glte fine when on Verizon SIM card... even simultaneously. I wanted to use the phone with a AT&T sim and after changing APN settings it does work fine, but NO simultaneous voice and data. When I make a call the 4glte signal on the top status bar changes to 1x and there is no data. Once the call ends it switches to 4glte. I have activated Advanced calling with Ver sim card on and when the ATT sim is in it does show HD calling enabled. So what's wrong with the device?? Did anyone face same issue ? Any suggestion will be greatly APPRECIATED. btw I am w/o any contract plan with Verizon
FWIW my Note 5 switches from 4G LTE to 1x as soon as I start a call. Unless I enable advance calling then I have 4G while in a call. However if you ask me the call quality is lower when I have HD Voice enabled in the advance calling tab.

Same problem here. I do not want to use HD Voice but still want simultaneous voice and data. I had no issue with this on my Galaxy S5.
I just wish it would stop notifying me telling me I don't have data on a call.
This is very annoying. I didn't have to set this on my older note 3. But I also went ahead and got the advanced calling 1.0. I dont know why, its dumb but it is what it is.
The new phones don't have 2x radios like the old phones did, so can't do both simultaneously. That is why you have to use advanced calling to get both.
It is a physical limitation of the phone, nothing you can do about it.

Why doesn't Verizon switch to GSM? Would it mess up their coverage if they decided to do it? I'm being hypothetical. I know it would cost them way more than they would ever spend to do it.
In a sense they are all moving to the lte spectrum. Att is GSM. Verizon is cdma. Both are using similar lte at 700mhz. When using advance calling it's no longer using cdma 1x or GSM but lte using voip over lte data. Therefore you can use voice and data.

I ended up getting a AT&T Note 5 and sold the Verizon Note 5. Everything works fine (4G data and voice simultaneously) on this one. I believe it's a limitation of Verizon Note 5.

Yes. But that is true when you use a Verizon SIM card... with a ATT sim there is no way to get data on the Ver Note 5. So bottom line is on a Verizon Note 5 you must use a Verizon SIM card to have voice and data at the same time, with AC on. On a ATT Note 5 it works by default, no options to turn on and perfect quality.
Do I have to have a Verizon sim card to turn on advanced calling option? I can't get voice and data while on call. I'm using att sim

Try changing the network mode from global mode to LTE / GSM / UMTS. It worked for me and I'm using T-Mobile. If you are trying to do video calling I still havent figured that out yet. But at least you can have data while your on a call.
Advanced calling is only available on Verizon's network with a Verizon sim card.
I don't know if there is another way to enable simultaneous voice and data on a Verizon phone that is on another carrier, but I know Advanced Calling won't work.
Also for Verizon advanced calling only works when you have LTE connection.

i wonder if there is a way to access the service menu to change the bands. this phone has more bands then what it is using right now. the marshmallow update made it a little better. i have 3g while calling. kinda slow though. i can tell you guys that there are absolutely no developers tinkering with the verizon version of the note 5 and s6 edge plus. i mean nobody. all the devs have left the scene. we are on our own for now until someone steps up. its true rather you want to believe it or not. this is the end for samsung phones on verizon.
Hello,
It appears based on the bands (best I can tell) the global mi mix 3 may have a chance of working on Verizon? Is that a true statement or to much to hope for?
What other US carriers will it work with?
Thanks!

T-Mobile/Metropcs (2, 4, *5,12, *46, 66, 71, *252, *255) and likely AT&T (2, 4, 5, 12, 17, 29, 30). The doesn't have ALL of those, just listing their respective bands.
Also, Xiaomi will hold a taster event in December (NYC). Mix 3 will probably be there.
I have both a Google fi and an att Sim card in mine. Keep in mind the mnvo part of Google fi doesn't switch carriers so it's perpetually on T-Mobile. Sprint does work. Popped in a friend's Sprint Sim card just to test.
Yes. I have att in mine works perfectly. Have project fi coming next week. Good to know that works as well.

Have you tried using "Signal Info" app for MNVO part of google fi? It has a setting to tell it to do the auto switching, not sure if this will engage some setting for the phone or not. Thought I'd check. If not at least you could maybe test the carriers, sprint, US Cell, & Tmobile .

Installed the Signal Info app (not Signal Spy). Will let you know if it switches to Sprint. I work in a building that has horrible T-Mobile coverage so I have to revert to either wifi or my AT&T sim.
FYI: It allowed me to enable the auto switching code (*#*#342886#*#*) but not carrier specific codes (e.g., Sprint)
So will it auto switch for Google Fi? I'm in the same boat as you I have ATT for work but Fi for personal.

Does not auto switch unfortunately. So it's stuck on T-Mobile. Not a big deal.

Not sure if it works. It doesn't indicate WiFi calling. Airplane mode with WiFi turned on does not allow and calls unless it's thru the Hangouts app.

I would like to pose a genreal qustion about sprint's B41. It would seem to me that if the 8G/256G phone receives B41, that this phone would receive it, correct? Unless sprint has done something funky with the B41 spectrum, of course.

It should if the part of the band 41 spectrum is in line with what Sprint uses. Some spectrum blocks use slightly different frequencies. If the Sprint merger with T-Mobile goes through though, Sprint's CDMA will mostly be be eliminated after about a year after the merger completes. T-Mobile did this when they originally bought Metro PCS as well. For longterm use, I would be more concerned with the lack of band 66 and 71 as well as a few other missing T-Mobile bands.

Mix 3 256G/8G has: 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,18,19,20,25,26,28,29,30,34,38,39,40,41,66 bands
I guess time will tell if B41 will ever work with this phone. Sprint uses FDD (or something) that might be a funky version of their own standard.

I'm using Dev rom w fi and att Sims. Hangouts and Hangouts dialer as my defaults
Ya, you know, Sprint is going to be tricky to test because Sprint locks their phones. From what I understand, taking a sims out of a Sprint phone and putting it into another does not work because Sprint wants the IMEI from the phone. That is why no one would want to use Sprint or would be desperate to use them. I was just wondering if Big John got a hold of the assets if he would continue the funky thing with the B41 or what it would turn into. It would be intersting to know because B41 has a 7 mile out reach, maybe further. Anyone else has a take on this?
