SOLVED THANKS TO robdam1001
Some applications that use screen as notification LED caused this problems with Google Assistant.
Uninstalling these app solved my problem
- NOTIFY BUDDY (for me it was this one)
- PLUS BEAT (for robdam1001)
Thanks you robdam1001!

Yep a free threads about this now. Only solution suggested is factory reset. I really don't want to do that so I'm hoping someone comes up with something

If you have Magisk installed, try this.

I have tried it but don't work.
The problem is deeper. "Ok Google" wake-up my phone when screen is off but after it don't hear my commands I have to touch the microphone icon to make it work and "ok Google" don't work when screen is of.
If I activate Assistant touching the screen it work perfectly but it don't hear "ok Google" with screen on
It's very strange. When screen is off "ok Google" wake-up Assistant (that don't work) so I hear my "ok Google"

Install stock OOS and don't update the Google app. After you update it it most likely won't work. The same thing happens with my wife's Pixel 3a XL.

Yeah, it has been a Google problem for a few months now.

Do you have the app "Plus Beat" installed? If so, that's probably the issue. I had the same exact "OK Google" issue that you have and the issue was fixed by uninstalling Plus Beat. I now use "Pixel Pulse" for Edge notifications.

how on earth did anyone figure out it was these apps causing the problem?

Hi guys, just a heads up. Forgot about the notification app I was using on my s10+. It's called aoe or always on edge and available on play. Just set it up. Working and no OK Google problems. You can set different colours for the edge lighting. With our curved display, it looks big and beautiful.

I spent hours and hours trying to reset this and uninstall and reinstall all sorts of apps.
Finally found the culprit, Button Mapper app. Basically, many notification apps prevent "ok google" from work.

Google+ app enjoyed whoring out my battery last night

I'm rooted, and use Xposed framework and App Ops. I've denied a lot of apps the Keep Awake permission for a lot of apps, including Google+, but last night, something weird happened. The app kept the phone awake for 8.05 hours, out of the total 8.37 hours the phone was on the battery.
I don't even have auto backup of photos turned on. What's interesting is that the app kept the phone awake despite me denying it the permission to do so. How the hell is that even possible?

:/ I had to leave for office at the time. Battery being down to half before you even begin your day is very annoying. Google doesn't get enough **** got its highly inefficient retarded piece of **** battery draining apps

Why don't you just plug your phone in when you go to bed? That way you always wake up with the battery at 100%

That doesn't solve the issue at hand; regardless, I mostly plug the phone in. This time though, the battery was around 85-90% iirc.

I also have this problem.. Don't know what's going on with g+
Try clearing the cache and data for Google+
The recent updates (March 12th and 17th) caused this recent keep awake and data usage issues with G+. Especially if you're using the auto backup feature in the photos app. Hope they'll address it soon
Nexus5
What's ridiculous is that even after denying the Keep Awake permissions, the app kept the phone awake. It basically ignored the rules of an app with superuser privileges. Even now App Ops doesn't know that G+ kept the phone awake.

Try disabling all Google app syncing except for things like Gmail.

Well denying the keep awake permission on an app does not mean that the app cannot trigger another process, which is not directly from the app, to keep the phone awake

G+ sync was disabled. I didn't even agree to G+ asking if I want to keep my contacts up to date, so there's no reason for it to do any goddamn thing in the background. Just ****ty and stupid on Google's part. Not sure if they do this on purpose.

Pretty sure they do. Google+ isn't the only Google app to have this problem (past, present, or future). It's purposeful or gross incompetence.
The same thing is apparent with syncing. There doesn't appear to be a timeout on syncing operations. It will try for minutes at a time to sync when it isn't even connected to data. No reply from the server after 15 seconds should kill all syncing for at least 10 minutes before it tries again.
I guess there are never any data connection issues at Google HQ. Must be 100% reliable.
I've been whining about these exact problems for over a year. Don't get your hopes up.
Thank God for Greenify I guess. Paid for the donate version and it's coming in handy to prevent other apps from waking up G+ more than anything else.

"known to misbehave" is depending on how the user sets up their device and settings. ive never had google apps misbehave on me, ever. now granted, with kitkat google hid items that should have been put out more obviously. like instead of going to the main phone settings for all your settings, theres also a google settings app in the app drawer. they need to be gone through as well, and have crap disabled. but be sure that you go into your location settings, google location reporting, and disable location history and location reporting. and turn the mode to battery saving. itll still tell you your location, but your battery will be better off. also, go to wifi settings, press the 3 dots on the bottom right, advanced, disable scanning always available(this will also help out your battery).

I don't know where to begin, especially seeing that you are actually knowledgeable.
Google Settings has existed since when, JB, if I'm not mistaken. It's not a KitKat addition.
I've disabled Google Now, Location Reporting, Location History and GPS. GPS only comes on when I'm using Maps, and gets turned off automatically as soon as I exit Maps. I've set up Llama to do this. Anyway, Location stuff is not related to Google+ at all, but still, I'm clarifying it just because you brought it up.
Wi-Fi settings are again not related to the issue at hand, and I'm not complaining about any drain they're causing because I actually need to have it on all the time for seamless switching between mobile data and Wi-Fi.
So you're telling me I've set my phone up wrongly and defend Google, but don't bring up G+ and instead talk about Location and Wi-Fi settings? That aside, how is it even possible to set up a phone wrongly? All that one is required to do is login and that's it - Google shouldn't be whoring out the battery no matter what.
Heck, I've disabled G+ sync, Photos sync, Photos backup, G+ contacts update feature, and denied it the permission to keep the phone awake, cut three wakeup paths.

[Q] Not Able To Start Video Capture

Since taking 4.4.4 (and rooted), I have been unable to record any video in either the stock app or the google camera (haven't tried any 3rd party beyond that). Pictures are fine, but trying to take any video with the moto stock camera gives the following error msg on screen:

Did not work for me! I have a Motorola Maxx XT1080 with 4.4.4. Upon re-boot, video capture works first time, but fails every time thereafter with error message "Not able to start video capture". If I re-boot again, same thing...works once, then fails thereafter with same error message. Any other solutions?

Updated to 4.4.4 and I got the same problem
Thanks for that, been wondering what the issue has been. I guess I will just keep it so that my Nova Launcher has the Ok Google response. Turned off the Google one and it fixed the issues for the phone now. Much appreciated for the help.
Had this same problem.
I was taking videos this evening with no problems then started checking out "Google Now" options and enabled the voice commands from any app and from the locked screen. Then went back to taking or trying to take videos and got this same error message. I tried rebooting and it didn't work so I googled the error message and found this forum. I did as suggested and disabled the voice commands for "Google Now" and my video recording went back to working. So does anyone know if this error is being addressed for a fix? Also, thanks for the help!
**** that, I was wondering what was wrong with my droid ultra, well i dont even need the okay google command since we have touchless controls anyways so its pretty pointless, also seeing how we may get updated to the new moto actions.
moto x xt1058 video capture not able
Hello friends, some time ago I got moto x xt1058, update to 4.4.4 and get same problem
Camera work well after reboot, but then I get message "not able to start video capture". That to bad course Skype and viber also didn't work.
Then I find this forum and try to turn off OK google now detection, but this button in voice google app's menu didn't work. It is grey (not active) color and has a message below " this feature is currently anavaliable on this device". Google now voice commands works well and I have no idea how to fix my camera problem.
P.s. camera work only in slow mode.
Thanks.

I HAD THE SAME THING for the last 3 months. I found it v frustrating.
THIS FIXED IT FOR ME AND FOR OTHERS

Ben's Awesome Solution to "not able to start video capture" on my Moto X
I have had the same problem as many others.
Where I try video recording on my Moto X and only get the SUPER FRUSTRATING - "not able to start video capture"
I tried the Google "3 Dot" - Google Now Shut Down and it worked upon reboot..."ONCE." Only to have it not work until another reboot...
I had to resort to carrying around a spare iphone to record what my Moto X couldn't.... auuggghhhh!!
Anyways, to make a long story short, Ben's comments fixed my problem...

[Q] How to use Trusted devices to automatically unlock Z3 on 5.0.2?

Before Lollipop, Sony had implemented a trusted feature with, say, a Pebble smartwatch or other trusted device - but now with 5.0.2 installed, I can't see how to set/change it.
What's more, my existing trusted device (watch) no longer unlocks the phone when in range.
I can see there's now a new setting (off by default) in Settings/Security/Trust agents/Smart Lock (Google) which could be it - as in the native Lollipop method, but even once I turn that on, there's no option that I can find unless I'm being really dumb?!
Think I've answered my own question. I rebooted and now in security there's a Smart Lock function menu that let's you unlock with Bluetooth, face etc.
That's exactly it, and it works better than what Sony had in 4.4.4 - it skips the lockscreen completely and without delay, unlike Sony's implementation...

How so? With my SmartBand, it just bypasses the pattern, but I still have to swipe to unlock it, unlike with 4.4.4 where it would unlock it completely.
I'm having trouble with this working with my SmartBand. On 4.4.4 my phone unlocked no problem 100% percent of the time. On 5.0.2 maybe 50% of the time. It's so frustrating!
It's working fine for everyone?

It's having compatibility issues with the SmartBand I guess. Same here, so back to using Tasker to achieve that.
I may have figured it out.
When I first set up smartly smartlock I did so using nfc when prompted to pair to the smartband.
What I did now was turn off the smartband and force stop or uninstall the smartband app (I uninstalled). To turn off the smartband you hold down the little button for a while (past the night mode toggle). Now go into the Bluetooth menu and turn on the smartband. Tap it when it shows up. Now that they're paired. Go back and setup smartlock again but this choose Bluetooth instead of nfc.
Using nfc it labeled the smartband as "smartband" while the Bluetooth method named it sw-10.
What I still liked about Sony's implementation was that you could set the proximity. I thought that was brilliant. I want the phone to unlock if it's in my hand and that's it.
What changes? Nothing, you still have to slide to unlock.

Yes, but we're talking specifically about the Sony Smartband in the last few posts. Apparently there is some issue with compatibility and I thought I had figured it out. I did, but as with others the problem now is that it won't hold through a power down cycle.
We understand the directions state you may have to reenter your passcode/pattern if the phone is left for a while or powered off but for me, and I believe some others, the only way to get it back is to erase the smartband app and start all over with pairing and smartlock setup. It's not like it starts working again after a single "verification"
As far as people's complaint about the smartlock not bypassing the swipe screen I believe that to simply be a lollipop change because of the new notification centric lockscreen. I actually like it. 75% of the time I want to check on a notification or mess with the music that's playing. Now it can bypass my security but still let me get to my notifications and music quickly. I actually much prefer it this way.
You are arguably just a minority judging by the topic full of hatred on AOSP forum. And I agree, why should I waste my time on a screen I don't want to have notifications at, especially as on KitKat, it worked basically the same, the device was unlocked by simple double click and next swipe could've been sliding notification bar. Don't see why I should have to swipe twice as much just to unlock the phone, it's the thing you do everytime you use your phone, for f***'s sake!
Sent from my Xperia Z2 via Tapatalk
We are all the minority. 9 out of 10 people could care less if they have to swipe, tap, or whatever. The people complaining in a thread on a forum certainly don't represent the larger audience. So yes, on these forums perhaps I am the minority, but I think with the z3 running lollipop there are quite afew improvements over KitKat. Some things I wish didn't change but Sony and Google didn't customize a Rom just for me. You always have the option of reverting to KitKaT.

After flashing Oreo into my S8+ (SM-G955FD) Via Odin, I've noticed that my Bixby wake-up command has completely killed itself, I've also received the new update that was rolled out a day or two ago, which is what I was waiting for before posting regarding it here; I know that many do not really care about Bixby but it happened to be quite useful to me, especially because I have to set Google Assistant as my "Default Assistant App" in order for its voice commands to work unlike Bixby but that's for my own personal preference, so I've tried to clear data on every Bixby applications and re-doing all of the voice training, it didn't do the job however there is something I've noticed when I attempt to get Bixby by voice command, in the notification tray there is a notification of Bixby indicating that it's supposedly waking up (Screenshot is included.)

So that's all I have, if anyone can assist me on how this can be resolved, I'd really appreciate.. Nobody else has complained about this issue and I don't know if that's whether if people don't care or perhaps this is ONLY ME, which worries me so please, thank you in advance.
Whoops.
Seems like I cannot post images yet, but It's practically the new Oreo functionability which shows any applications that "display over screen".

SO DONE.
I guess nobody really cares about this but I am as desperate as ever but I guess I'll have to go on without Bixby until they give another update which I don't know how long it might take, I've talked to several Samsung support agents and all I've got from them is stupid normie solutions that'll make you question how they got the job for that position, the "turning it off and on" meme is real and so annoying because they do not understand and will not even try to understand the issue and go on with their automated solutions that probably only help old white people trying to understand technology and apparently the support fails to tell them apart, I am absolutely livid after this horrible experience with Samsung, after hours of trying to make them understand, one understood and understood it so much that he realized he cannot help me at all and said that this is so technical that I'll have to either wait for an update which may or may not fix this or literally throw away my phone aka go get it replaced under warranty which is totally absurd.
I have the same problem, bixby just wont wake up, the icon pops on notification bar then disappears. Still cant find a solution
Edit: wirdly enough i just called it and it responded everything is working well, i dont know if its because of the CRB7 update. It just worked on its own

I have done enough research on my own phone and the only moment Bixby voice has worked for me is when I reboot and keep saying "Hi Bixby" and it will suddenly work for at least 5-10minutes depending on what triggers it to not work, and I can't seem to figure what does that, because this has to do with some other software interrupting Bixby to show over screen because it's obviously reacting to you when you say Hi Bixby in the notification bar, so please let me know if it's working fine for you now regardless?
Update : Bixby Voice just received a new update 1.0.19.10, and yet it has not fixed the issue for me and I have also realized that Bixby works perfectly when in Safe mode so it could be a third-party app interfering as well.

I have fixed as it seems so far.. I started to uninstall unwanted apps to any suspicious apps, and I do not know which one but if you have any shady apps such as WPS testing app or anything related to such uninstall, anyways here is what I did; SafeMode>Settings>Device Assistant > Select none > then boot into normal > wait for Bixby to work > go into device assistant> pick Google back as assistant. That's all I did.
Okay, I was wrong after almost 24hours of using my phone with Bixby working it has suddenly again stopped working after I updated some apps on the PlaysStore, this issue seems very complex with no logic behind it, it's quite annoying..
Hi .. i have the same pb with my note 8 .. it had appeared after installed the android 8
Lets switch S8's

I honestly think your in a better situation than most.
I do not know of any one who likes BIXBY.
I do like bixby.
I'm don't seem to have any real problems with bixby on Oreo. I problem I have is try to create quick commands.
If I say "Hi Bixby" it will open,
Then I can say Open "xda" and it will open.
Now say I want to go to the subscribed threads in the app.
with the app opened, I say "Hi Bixby" go to subscribed threads. It will not do it, but with the app opened I can press the bixby key and say subscribed threads and it will go to the threads. why?

Question, did you flash all the files included in the update?
Reson i asked is because i had the same issue, i got in touch with samsung, but after getting into my phone and not fixing the issue, i remembered i had omited one of the files in the update, (i think i missunderstood a post or something), i reflashed ALL the files in the update, aparently it did not work, but then i went into apps 3 dots show system apps, from the list of apps i located ALL the Bixby apps i counted 6, got into Storage and cleared the data from all 6, i restarted, bixby and it worked.
No clue I disabled it
I finally received the Sprint Oreo update I'm having the same problem so it's probably not a problem with you flashing it. I usually use a combination of Bixby and Google Assistant.
Edit: If you wipe cache partition, it will work again but then stop.
I have the same exact problem

Do not disturb on MIUI 12; exclusions

Can someone with MIUI 12 check something for me? Is it possible to create exclusions while in the do not disturb mode? So in settings -> apps, select a random app, click notifications. There should be some sort of ignore DND option, hopefully...
I am still on 11 and want to go to 12 but I'm waiting for the 168 hours.

Ah, that's a shame, then I will have to do some Tasker stuff to make it work
Well... Does do not disturb mode works for you? On mi 10 pro if you set to receive calls from anyone, app notifications and sounds won't be muted at all.....

Sorry for the late response, did not see this quote yet.
By using tasker and autonotification plugin, you can let tasker play a sound over the alarm channel whenever Facebook messenger sends you a message. Also when in DND mode.
I'm now using the Pixel 5 and returned my Xiaomi. Now it works natively again
Just posting here in case others will miss this function.
So Xiaomi decided to leave out a core Android feature that was introduced back in Android 5 Lollipop.
The Ignore DND function.
Back even in the L days, you could use DND. And if you went into an app's notification settings, you could tick a box saying "Ignore DND". This gave Android an ultimate edge over iOS.
This option and function is present in Google, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony devices and many others. Even Huawei has it.
But Xiaomi's MIUI.
Why did they remove it? No one has a clue.
Will they add it back? Doubtful. It was missing in MIUI 11 already. MIUI 12 does not have it either.
I asked Xiaomi.EU but they have not replied. I don't think they can hack it back either - which is super sad.
Workarounds?
See just above, Mr. thecompany has posted a workaround.
I used this app myself: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nebz.alertify
Basically, it can be heavily customized what to watch out for (what notification) and it can create an alarm. The alarm DOES override DND and boom, you have DND override.
It worked reliably on MIUI 11 (Xiaomi.EU and normal) on my Mi Note 10 Pro.
Ps.: Now I am returning to Xiaomi with the Mi 10T Pro, so I'll keep looking at workarounds, magisk modules and other tricks.
I was waiting to get the OnePlus 8T, but the price, the warranty of Xiaomi has won me over.
Since my post is still relevant, here is an update: https://blog.agx.co/index.php/2020/...12-how-to-override-ignore-dnd-do-not-disturb/
Hello, can someone confirm please ? There is no way to hear any notification in DND mode ? On redmi note 10. thank you.

HI h8Aramex, the link to your update does not work for me. I am looking for an workaround to get my notifications working in DND as it would be great to have my security cameras working. TIA. I tried the Alertify and it does not support xIaomi.

Alertify works fine, but you must set it to Alarm, instead of Media in Settings.
Also make sure you disable all battery savings for the app.

Thanks for the quick answer. I tried it again and it worked!!! I tried for 3 hours last night and could not get it to work. then I found out on there site " does not work with Xiaomi phones" It turns out it does. Thats brilliant i do not have to redo my whole phone Thanks.
Alertify works fine for me for all apps but normal calls. For normal calls on the GSM network, it doesnt alert. My phone is on Miui 12.5. Has anyone else had this problem?

You mean DND? It is already like that. On Xiaomi, DND does not disable Media, and I can't find a setting to change that. I think Huawei had this toggle, which would disable media as well. But on Xiaomi, on my Mi 11 Ultra, I can't find it.

For normal calls, you can actually just open the Dialer settings. Go into the dialer, open settings (bottom left, tap hamburger button, settings), then Advanced Settings, then in middle Missed Called Reminders. You can set it to 10 times even.

I had to use MacroDroid too
Try "Sound Profile (Volume Control)" in Google Play. It allows you to add apps to the Notification Exceptions for each volume profile. It even allows parameters, For example only let sound emails form my boss and my coworker. Ignore the rest. Or only Whatsappa from my wife while at work.
