Do not disturb on MIUI 12; exclusions - Xiaomi Mi Note 10 Questions & Answers

Can someone with MIUI 12 check something for me? Is it possible to create exclusions while in the do not disturb mode? So in settings -> apps, select a random app, click notifications. There should be some sort of ignore DND option, hopefully...
I am still on 11 and want to go to 12 but I'm waiting for the 168 hours.

Ah, that's a shame, then I will have to do some Tasker stuff to make it work

Well... Does do not disturb mode works for you? On mi 10 pro if you set to receive calls from anyone, app notifications and sounds won't be muted at all.....

Sorry for the late response, did not see this quote yet.
By using tasker and autonotification plugin, you can let tasker play a sound over the alarm channel whenever Facebook messenger sends you a message. Also when in DND mode.
I'm now using the Pixel 5 and returned my Xiaomi. Now it works natively again

Just posting here in case others will miss this function.
So Xiaomi decided to leave out a core Android feature that was introduced back in Android 5 Lollipop.
The Ignore DND function.
Back even in the L days, you could use DND. And if you went into an app's notification settings, you could tick a box saying "Ignore DND". This gave Android an ultimate edge over iOS.
This option and function is present in Google, OnePlus, Samsung, Sony devices and many others. Even Huawei has it.
But Xiaomi's MIUI.
Why did they remove it? No one has a clue.
Will they add it back? Doubtful. It was missing in MIUI 11 already. MIUI 12 does not have it either.
I asked Xiaomi.EU but they have not replied. I don't think they can hack it back either - which is super sad.
Workarounds?
See just above, Mr. thecompany has posted a workaround.
I used this app myself: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nebz.alertify
Basically, it can be heavily customized what to watch out for (what notification) and it can create an alarm. The alarm DOES override DND and boom, you have DND override.
It worked reliably on MIUI 11 (Xiaomi.EU and normal) on my Mi Note 10 Pro.
Ps.: Now I am returning to Xiaomi with the Mi 10T Pro, so I'll keep looking at workarounds, magisk modules and other tricks.
I was waiting to get the OnePlus 8T, but the price, the warranty of Xiaomi has won me over.
Since my post is still relevant, here is an update: https://blog.agx.co/index.php/2020/...12-how-to-override-ignore-dnd-do-not-disturb/

Hello, can someone confirm please ? There is no way to hear any notification in DND mode ? On redmi note 10. thank you.

HI h8Aramex, the link to your update does not work for me. I am looking for an workaround to get my notifications working in DND as it would be great to have my security cameras working. TIA. I tried the Alertify and it does not support xIaomi.

Alertify works fine, but you must set it to Alarm, instead of Media in Settings.
Also make sure you disable all battery savings for the app.

Thanks for the quick answer. I tried it again and it worked!!! I tried for 3 hours last night and could not get it to work. then I found out on there site " does not work with Xiaomi phones" It turns out it does. Thats brilliant i do not have to redo my whole phone Thanks.

Alertify works fine for me for all apps but normal calls. For normal calls on the GSM network, it doesnt alert. My phone is on Miui 12.5. Has anyone else had this problem?

You mean DND? It is already like that. On Xiaomi, DND does not disable Media, and I can't find a setting to change that. I think Huawei had this toggle, which would disable media as well. But on Xiaomi, on my Mi 11 Ultra, I can't find it.

For normal calls, you can actually just open the Dialer settings. Go into the dialer, open settings (bottom left, tap hamburger button, settings), then Advanced Settings, then in middle Missed Called Reminders. You can set it to 10 times even.

I had to use MacroDroid too

Try "Sound Profile (Volume Control)" in Google Play. It allows you to add apps to the Notification Exceptions for each volume profile. It even allows parameters, For example only let sound emails form my boss and my coworker. Ignore the rest. Or only Whatsappa from my wife while at work.

Profile Manager Round Up

Okay, I'm after a program that will manage profiles for me. When I go to work, I switch it to work and the phone goes into a silent more (vibrate) checks e-mail every 15 minutes and gives me reminders of sms, missed calls etc.
I plug my HD into the car and it puts the sound back on, I don't get reminders, just the initial message, Bluetooth comes on and connects to my car kit.
I get home, BT turns off, WiFi comes on and reminders come back.
There seems to be quite a lot of different options out there, so I propose to make this the definative thread on the matter. Please post what software you have used, provide a link, give the price (if applicable) and a short 'review'. I will edit into this post everyone's findings and it can then be used as a reference to all those that come along asking. Sound good?
So, I've used -
pocketMax - phoneAlarm - €14.50 (Lite version - £13)

Pro's - Very powerful, options to set almost everything thinkable in your profile..
Con's - Not the best UI. Today screen friendly (not so good for TF3D).
Phone Weaver - $14.95 (£10.27)
Pro's - Pretty good control. Nice UI. Can change profiles through an icon.
Con's - Setting profiles can be confusing. (How do I have vibrate, but with reminders?) No location based profile switching.
To come...
CellProfileSwitcher - FREE
SPB Phone Suite - $19.95 (£13.70)
Pro's - Reasonably flexible. Very nice interface.
Con's - Requires a today screen. No location based profile switching.
Location Profile Mobile - FREE

And maybe this one too?
No one with any experiences they wish to add?
I've tried most of the above and am currently using SPB PhoneSuite, as much because it integrates with Mobile Shell as anything.
I would agree that PhoneAlarms interface leaves lots to be desired and PhoneWeaver is just bewildering.
What is missing from PhoneSuite is the ability to change ring tones/notifications on a profile by profile basis. All you have control over is the volume and vibrate function. I am a member of the SPB forum and this is a currently outstanding feature request
Does anyone know if there are any more options out there?
Hello. Here is what I am looking for. So far I am very frustrated with my HTC FUZE with this one feature.
I would like to have more control of the phone profile options like I used to have on my Blackberry phones. Basically I want to be able to make set custom profiles as I want them.
For example. With my old phones I was able to use an "advanced" feature in the phone profile section to create what I called a "Night" setting. When this setting was activated the entire phone was on silent (texts, emails, etc, everything was silent) EXCEPT the phone. The phone would ring if I received a call. So it was basically a "phone only" setting. This was perfect at night because I would only receive a call if it was a real emergency.
I KNOW that I can go into the Sounds and Notifications settings and turn everything off except the phone, but I have to do that manually and if I change phone settings everything goes back and I have to again manually do what I want.
I HAVE tried the Inesoft program and the spb phone suite. both have profiles built into them, but no way to do what I mention above with my "night" setting.
DeeDee, I am also using MobileShell and currently spb phone suite, but as mentioned above it does not allow me to set up custom profiles the way I want to.
I look forward to any feedback anyone might have. Thanks!

In PhoneSuite there is the option to edit notification type, set this to "Off". Should work, it does for me, just tested it.

that is the same build I am using, but the setting image you posted still makes you receive either the sound or vibration you have set up for text messages, emails, etc. You have to still manually go to Sounds and Notifications and manually turn off the sounds/vibrate for those features. And once you chance back to another profile, those settings all reset and you have to manually adjust them again the next time you want to use your custom profile.
I think my point is that there is no way to make a set profile the way you want. I wish you could just do this
Phone - vibrate and ring
email - off, or no notification
text - off, or no notification
sms - off, or no notification
calendar - off, or no notification
something like that.
Weird, I have just retested the settings as in the screen shot and while the phone rings, and I can hear the ring tone, an email is delivered in silence. Not tested SMS yet but I can't see why it would be different.

right, it WILL work if you set everything in the sounds and notifications settings as I described. BUT when you switch profiles in phone suite during the day (in my example I was setting up a night setting) and then go back to the Custom one, all of the sounds and notification settings have reset. you then have to go through all of them again and uncheck vibrate or sound. You can not set the custom profile so it SAVES all of the phone settings for repeated use. The next time you have to set it all up again. does that make sense.
I just tested on my fuze and exactly what I describe above happened. it worked as i wanted, but when i switched profiles, and then tried to switch back to the custom one, I was forced to reset the sounds and notification settings for each thing. that makes no sense and takes to much time.
phoneAlarm will do all this for you. It has by far the mosy options. You can even change how often e-mail is checked in each profile.

I will check it out now. thank you for the feedback.
I would add, the best way to run it is -
Turn off TF3D in Today settings. Add just pA. Go to pA options and enable TouchFlo mode. Reset the device. When it comes back up, it will load phoneAlarm and all you need do is press the left softkey labelled 'Manilla' to load TF3D with pA running in the back ground.
Then, make a file in your start menu -> programs that points to "\windows\paWakeup.exe" -pm. Call it something like Profiles.lnk and then add that to your programs tab on TF3D. Now when you tap that, you can manually select a profile.
It now seems to run with very little impact on phone performance.
Andy
I do not use TF3D. I use spb Mobile Shell. Do you have any idea how this program will work with that application.
Hmm, you can probably get it to work in a similar manner as I explained above, but set the left soft key to run mobile shell instead? The link for profile changing I would think will work the same...?
Andy, I have installed the program, but am a bit lost. Not sure how to use the features with Mobbile Shell
Have you read the bit I posted about making a profile.lnk?
Set up your profiles, press your link to change them. You can also use automatic switching...

[Q] How to use Trusted devices to automatically unlock Z3 on 5.0.2?

Before Lollipop, Sony had implemented a trusted feature with, say, a Pebble smartwatch or other trusted device - but now with 5.0.2 installed, I can't see how to set/change it.
What's more, my existing trusted device (watch) no longer unlocks the phone when in range.
I can see there's now a new setting (off by default) in Settings/Security/Trust agents/Smart Lock (Google) which could be it - as in the native Lollipop method, but even once I turn that on, there's no option that I can find unless I'm being really dumb?!
Think I've answered my own question. I rebooted and now in security there's a Smart Lock function menu that let's you unlock with Bluetooth, face etc.
That's exactly it, and it works better than what Sony had in 4.4.4 - it skips the lockscreen completely and without delay, unlike Sony's implementation...

How so? With my SmartBand, it just bypasses the pattern, but I still have to swipe to unlock it, unlike with 4.4.4 where it would unlock it completely.
I'm having trouble with this working with my SmartBand. On 4.4.4 my phone unlocked no problem 100% percent of the time. On 5.0.2 maybe 50% of the time. It's so frustrating!
It's working fine for everyone?

It's having compatibility issues with the SmartBand I guess. Same here, so back to using Tasker to achieve that.
I may have figured it out.
When I first set up smartly smartlock I did so using nfc when prompted to pair to the smartband.
What I did now was turn off the smartband and force stop or uninstall the smartband app (I uninstalled). To turn off the smartband you hold down the little button for a while (past the night mode toggle). Now go into the Bluetooth menu and turn on the smartband. Tap it when it shows up. Now that they're paired. Go back and setup smartlock again but this choose Bluetooth instead of nfc.
Using nfc it labeled the smartband as "smartband" while the Bluetooth method named it sw-10.
What I still liked about Sony's implementation was that you could set the proximity. I thought that was brilliant. I want the phone to unlock if it's in my hand and that's it.
What changes? Nothing, you still have to slide to unlock.

Yes, but we're talking specifically about the Sony Smartband in the last few posts. Apparently there is some issue with compatibility and I thought I had figured it out. I did, but as with others the problem now is that it won't hold through a power down cycle.
We understand the directions state you may have to reenter your passcode/pattern if the phone is left for a while or powered off but for me, and I believe some others, the only way to get it back is to erase the smartband app and start all over with pairing and smartlock setup. It's not like it starts working again after a single "verification"
As far as people's complaint about the smartlock not bypassing the swipe screen I believe that to simply be a lollipop change because of the new notification centric lockscreen. I actually like it. 75% of the time I want to check on a notification or mess with the music that's playing. Now it can bypass my security but still let me get to my notifications and music quickly. I actually much prefer it this way.
You are arguably just a minority judging by the topic full of hatred on AOSP forum. And I agree, why should I waste my time on a screen I don't want to have notifications at, especially as on KitKat, it worked basically the same, the device was unlocked by simple double click and next swipe could've been sliding notification bar. Don't see why I should have to swipe twice as much just to unlock the phone, it's the thing you do everytime you use your phone, for f***'s sake!
Sent from my Xperia Z2 via Tapatalk
We are all the minority. 9 out of 10 people could care less if they have to swipe, tap, or whatever. The people complaining in a thread on a forum certainly don't represent the larger audience. So yes, on these forums perhaps I am the minority, but I think with the z3 running lollipop there are quite afew improvements over KitKat. Some things I wish didn't change but Sony and Google didn't customize a Rom just for me. You always have the option of reverting to KitKaT.

XDA-Developers: Customize the Google Pixel 2’s Active Edge to do any action with Edge Sense Plus [XDA Spotlight]
What is Edge Sense Plus?
Edge Sense Plus was initially just meant for the HTC U series. It let's you customize the squeeze action and adds some more squeeze gestures and features.
But with the Pixel2 also coming with a squeezable frame I had the goal to make it compatible with it too.
..and after a couple of days debugging with @k4r70ng (I don't own the device, big thanks to him, was a great help) we are here now!
Requirements
You have to be on Oreo 8.1 or Android P.
You need to run a STOCK based ROM, because Active Edge is broken on AOSP roms.
You need to be rooted with magisk to use it.
Install the Active Edge System Mod Magisk Module from the MagiskManager Repo and the EdgeSensePlus from the playstore and you are ready to go!
Telegram Group
Join Telegram Edge Sense Plus Group
How does it work
To make it working on the Pixel2 I had to modify the SystemUIGoogle.apk that runs the ElmyraService (Service that processes the squeeze gestures).
I intercept the events and pass them to the EdgeSensePlus Application that starts the appropriate action then that you selected.
Some more adjustments were made, so the squeezing also works when you are in immersive mode, camera or when Google Assistant is deactivated/uninstalled.
What can it do?
Custom actions:
Currently you can choose from over different actions
Quickly Start camera - Also when screen is off and locked
Per App Action - Execute different squeeze actions depending in what app you are!

Per app actions:
With the per app action, you can define different squeeze actions per app. So the chosen action will be executed dependent in what app you are currently are.
Double Squeeze: (Premium)
If you often accidentally trigger a short squeeze, that won't happen anymore if you map your desired action to the double squeeze gesture.
You can define a double squeeze interval, to ensure you are quick enough to trigger it every time.
Long Squeeze:
Missed a long squeeze action on your Pixel? Edge Sense Plus has it!
G-Sensor usage: (Premium)
If enabled, will be able to execute different actions depending on the current position of your device, whether it is flat or upright in your hand.
That way you can have six different squeeze gestures: short, long, doublepress in flat or upright device position.
Media control:
The media control will override your set squeeze actions while media is playing so you can control your media.
That includes play/pause, increase/decrease volume and skip to next and previous track.
Squeeze sounds:
Ever thought it would be funny if a squeeze of your Pixel2 would make a sound, if it is a *click*, *oink* , *fart* or whatever you think of?
You can use any .mp3 file to make that happen!
Sidebar:
The Sidebar has 4 different panels, Applications, Shortcuts, Recent Apps (Premium), Quicksettings (Premium).
Panel colors are customizable
Instructions
You must be on at least Oreo 8.1 to to be able to use it. Root with Magisk is required since the magisk module is mandatory!
It is recommended to have a working TWRP backup in case something goes wrong. Check the FAQ for help too.
Like always: Flash on your own risk. I'm not responsible for any damaga to your device
Flash the Magisk Module either in Magisk Manager or TWRP
Install Edge Sense Plus
Enjoy.
Downloads
Now also available via the MagiskManager Repo:
I recommend to install and update the Magisk Module directly via the MagiskManager repository directly in the MagiskManager app.
All releases will be also available on the GitHub repository
Edge Sense Plus:
Ok lol I am blind, thanks for app!
This looks great and more powerful than other options to intercept the squeeze gesture. Thanks for taking the time to port it!
Would it be possible to provide a module download with an Md5? I downloaded and flashed the module, wound up in a bootloop and had to restore a backup. I'd like to try this, but really want to be careful. Thanks

A: No, it will bootloop your device. There is a separate thread on the Pixel2 XL forum.
Q: My device bootloops after flashing the magisk module.
A: Ensure you are on the latest Pixel2 OTA. To get out of the bootloop, go to the magisk thread and install the magisk uninstaller and then reinstall magisk again.
Q: The magisk module zip is greyed out when I try to install it.
A: I have no explanation why it happens for some. Install a FileManager like SolidExplorer or FX File Explorer, then Select that File Browser in the System File Explorer to select the path
Thanks. Yeah Pixel 2 on the latest January update with TWRP and Magisk 15.2.
Yep it was a bad download. Thanks for the Md5. I'm all set now :good:

great, glad to hear.
Love the app so far! One thing that bothers me is that when I launch google assistant, it makes the beeping noise twice. Is there anyway to change that?

Aware of that. Will look into this today. Does not happen on my U11... so debugging will take a bit longer.
Are there any plans to distribute the app through the Play Store? And is it normal for the app to constantly ask me to upgrade to premium? By constantly, I literally mean constantly. It seems to be tied to scrolling down the settings page, and it pops up 2-3 times before I reach the bottom.
Also, will squeezing still silence an incoming call? Are there any settings that might prevent the squeeze from silencing an incoming call?

Currently the app is just visibible for HTC U Devices.
Im afraid of bad ratings from pixel users, since it does just work with root. On the U11 it works without.
Will try improve the scrolling issue.
I just override the google assistant action. So the other native squeeze actions should still work.

I've noticed that pocket detection makes active edge misbehave. I don't know if this is a known issue, but I thought I'd share my experience.
The other thing I thought was an issue was with setting a shortcut to a Tasker task. For anyone who may not understand how it works, you have to open Tasker and choose "exit" from the menu at the top right of the app before you can set the task shortcut in Edge Sense Plus.

Apparently the setting is stored in ram, so is reset to "google knows best" on reboot. Perhaps it is possible to write an app that launches on boot and sets this setting to "off". I'm not an android dev (never got into mobile) - so it would be great to hear if that is possible.
I'd also be happy to be a tester.

I have the same exact problem on a Redmi K30 Ultra. Would love to see or hear of an app that can check/change this when required.
I have a Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC, and I too had the same issue. I would set Adaptive Notifications to None and it would automatically revert to Notifications after a while. I was paying with this trying to sort out the delayed notifications issue that has plagued Xiaomi devices for years. Strangely, while Adaptive Notifications was set to None, I didn't notice any delayed notifications. Like you, I wanted to know how to get Adaptive Notifications to stay on None, so I started playing around.
After some messing, I think I may have found a solution - disabling com.miui.notification using ADB. It's been almost 48 hours since I did this, and I can honestly say I've not noticed any delayed notifications. Adaptive Notifications has remained set to None, and there appears to be no adverse effect on receiving notifications. I'm still getting text messages, phone calls and notifications from apps such as Outlook, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger, eBay etc. without issue. I've even restarted the device to see if it automatically enables com.miui.notification, but thus far it remains disabled.
Maybe com.miui.notification will enable itself at some point, I honestly don't know, but I'll be sure to update here if anything happens.

As I said, I disabled com.muiu.notification using ADB (search how to do this). Unfortunately since then it's reverted to "Android Adaptive Notifications", it can't revert to "Notifications" because that's been removed, but I still get delayed notifications while it's set to "Android Adaptive Notifications". I have since installed "Activity Launcher" and created a shortcut to "Adaptive Notifications" on my home screen so that I can quickly check and change when necessary. It's a crappy solution, but it'll have to do until it's hopefully fixed in a future update.
So, as stated above, disabling com.miui.notification didn't really work as I had hoped, so I wiped my Poco X3 NFC and started again from scratch. I have now discovered the following which works for me. Maybe it could work for you?:
Install "Activity Launcher" from Google Play Store.
Open the Activity Launcher app and search for "Adaptive Notifications".
Press and hold "Adaptive Notifications", select "Create Shortcut" and click "Add".
You will now have an "Adaptive Notifications" shortcut on your Home Screen.
Click on the "Adaptive Notifications" shortcut and select "None", then click on the Square (Recents Overview) or equivalent if you're not using 3-button navigation.
In the Recents Overview screen press and hold the "Adaptive Notifications" screen and click on the "Padlock" when it appears. This will lock "Adaptive Notifications" in the Recents Overview.
I'm not entirely sure how or why this works, but I have had this set up like this for almost 48 hours, and the "Adaptive Notifications" setting has remained on "None", although I can confirm this reverts to "Notifications" again on a reboot.
I started out on this journey attempting to find a solution to the delayed notification issue that has haunted many Xiaomi users for a few years. This is the closest I have come to a solution. FB Messenger is my biggest problem because I use that all the time for a family group chat. At this moment in time, this is what I've done:
Set FB Messenger to 'Autostart'.
Set 'Battery Saver' to 'No Restrictions' for FB Messenger.
Locked FB Messenger in the 'Recents Overview' (Square Button).
Locked Adaptive Notifications in the 'Recents Overview' (Square Button).
The majority of my notifications from FB Messenger come through without delay. I have tested this on two different WiFi connections, and also on my 4G mobile network. There has been the odd delayed notification, but even then the delay has not been more than 5-6 seconds, whereas previously the delays could be minutes, and sometimes not at all until I woke the screen.
I know this isn't the most elegant solution, but it works for me, and maybe it will work for others, at least until Xiaomi fixes the delayed notifications issue.
energy6uk, #8: "the following which works for me ..."This didn't work for me. While everything could be done, the locked "Adaptive notifications" changed itself from "None" to "Notifications" often, without rebooting or turning off the phone; and notifications continue to be delayed by a few minutes despite battery optimisation being disabled for the notifying app.
Details: this was with a different phone; I expect all phones running recent MIUI are likely to behave the same, certainly the "Adaptive notifications" was there. I use a Redmi Note 7, xiaomi.eu custom weekly ROM, Android 10, MIUI 12.5 (this 2-year-old phone no longer receives updates). The location of "Adaptive notifications" is different; I found it by Search in the Settings menu, and can't navigate to it by selecting options (it claims to be at Settings > Privacy > Manager > Special app access > Adaptive notifications).
Possibly spontaneous change to the "Adaptive notifications" setting will be rectified in later MIUI releases, as it would seem to be clearly a bug, but my older phone will not get updates.
Added 20Jun21: All this continues to be true; additionally, locking the application generating the notification doesn't get rid of the delay.
Here is a solution on my Redmi k40. I don't know it the option is on your device.
Simply search "adaptive notifications" in your settings to and check - None.
This will permanently disable it
I am running MIUI 12.5.8

Yes, I've found that it reverts back to 'Notifications' when you clear the cache, use 'Cleaner 'or clear the 'Recents', also when you restart the device. At first I thought it was a Xiaomi issue, but it's not, it's an Android issue because it does exactly the same on other Android devices, although most other Android devices have only two selections, 'Android Adaptive Notifications' and 'None', but again when you set it to 'None', it reverts back to 'Android Adaptive Notifications' when you clear the cache, use 'Cleaner', clear the 'Recents' or restart the device.
It's clear there is a flaw with push notifications in the Android operating system, and it's existed for some time. I'm sure Google are fully aware of the flaw, but they either don't care or can't figure out a fix.
After long time let me add to this thread. I am an owner of a K20 pro premium and have an identical problem "not getting notifications while screen is off". I am on latest China firmware with locked bootloader.
As @energy6uk stated, a way to avoid adaptive notifications revert back to "Notifications" from "None" is by disabling the app.
There are 2 ways to do that. Of course both methods needs you to enable developer options and USB debugging.
Don't ask, search how to do it, tons of guides.
1st method through ADB.
1) Install ADB, there are tons of packages out there
2) connect USB on phone and give permission to your computer access the phone
3) Type
Code:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.miui.notification
to disable the Notifications app.
(You can disable any bloatware this way as soon as you know their package name)
3a) Re-enable by using the
Code:
adb shell pm enable com.miui.notification
2nd method, use the AWESOME tool from Szaki Xiaomi ADB/Fastboot Tools
1) download the latest version https://github.com/Szaki/XiaomiADBFastbootTools/releases/
2) Be sure to install Oracele JDK 11 or openJDK https://adoptopenjdk.net/
3) double click the jar file and connect the phone in USB debugging mode.
4) The app comes with plenty of apps that can be disabled/uninstalled without causing any harm, but be careful everything is on you.
5) Go on top and select APP Manager -> Add Apps. Insert the following line "com.miui.notification: Notifications"
6) Go to your phone settings and search "adaptive notifications" -> select it and set the option to "None"
7) Go back to the ADB/Fastboot tools and select tab "Disabler" in App, tick Notifications from the list and press Disable!
P.S. Some extra apps that I have added and disabled
com.sohu.inputmethod.sogou.xiaomi: Sogou Keyboard (This caused some problems and keyboard didn't popup even when I had GBoard as default, if it happens to you too, just re-enable)
com.miui.newhome: MI NewHome
com.xiaomi.aiasst.service: AI Call Assistant
com.unionpay.tsmservice.mi: UnionPay
com.miui.virtualsim: Mi Roaming
com.miui.voicetrigger: Wake with voice
com.xiaomi.mi_connect_service: Mi connect

Development [DNDSync] My App for Do Not Disturb Synchronization on Non-Samsung Phones

Hello everyone!
I'm using the Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 with a Pixel 3a XL and I was a bit annoyed that the option to synchronize the Do Not Disturb (DND) state between watch and phone seems to be only available when paired to a Samsung phone. So I made an App to fix this and I'd like to share it with as many people as possible (I don't know how much interest there is).

}
As for now it is not in the Google Play Store but you can find the APK files, instructions and the source code on my GitHub.
Besides the DND sync I also implemented to (optionally) toggle Bedtime mode on the watch depending on the DND state of the phone (this is a bit experimental though, since I had to use an Accessibility Service for that, more on that below).
NOTE: For bedtime mode toggle to work it is important that the Bedtime Mode button is on the first page of quick settings and in the first row the button in the middle!
The installation on the watch is a bit technical (needs ADB) and here I want to explain why it is how it is.
Why do I need ADB?In order to listen to DND changes and also change the DND state, the app needs the permission from the user. On the phone it is no problem to grant said permission (it's the ACCESS_NOTIFICATION_POLICY for those curious) because the system provides a permission screen where the user can handle that permission. On the watch this screen is missing and therefore the user can't grant the permission to the watch. That's where ADB comes into play. I found a command which allows to enable the permission for the app via ADB. (I could only test this with my watch, I think (and hope) it will work on other devices too) In order for the app to work properly, you have to execute this command once after installation. The details are in the GitHub instructions.
Why is Bedtime mode experimental? In an ideal world I would know a command to use in my program that controls the Bedtime mode setting directly. Unfortunately I haven't found such a command (if anyone knows, please let me know). As a workaround I figured I could simulate the touch gestures which you would use to do it manually: Swipe down to open the Quick Settings, tap the icon for Bedtime mode, use back button (or swipe up) to close the Settings. In order to do that I use an Accessibility Service, which you have to enable if you want to use the feature (see instructions). It is experimental because all I can do is perform the gestures and hope everything went alright, no way to really confirm that Bedtime mode is actually on or off (that I know of at the moment).
I made a video that demonstrates both the 2-way synchronization of the DND state and the Bedtime mode feature:
Last but not least a little Disclaimer: I'm not very experienced in Android App Development and I've never released an App before. Even though it works fine for me I have no idea what might happen on other systems and configurations, so please be gentle
I'm happy to hear your thoughts, feedback, ideas, bug reports and I will see if I can do something about it.
Let me know if you have any questions!
Stay safe!
Looks good, I'm going to install. Using watch4 and OnePlus 8T running Pixel experience rom. Will report back.
I'm wondering if this will work with the silent and vibrate function of the switch on the side of the 8T because that switch doesn't use DND
If possible it'd be cool if you made an option for that in the app

The app listens to DND changes so I think your scenario won't trigger the sync but I can look into it and I guess it's doable, but I have to have a closer look first.
So the switch on your phone toggles between silent, vibrate and sound? And you would like the watch to mirror this mode instead of DND? Just to make sure I understand you correctly.

There is an app similar to this one: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=se.blunden.donotdisturbsync
It doesn't work for me, though (Pixel 3, stock software). that app had the limitation of only syncing one way (watch to phone) - is the other direction (phone to watch) what the adb command is for?

Yes, I saw this app but I never actually tried to use it tbh, mainly because I wanted the Bedtime feature and a new challenge The adb command this app uses didn't work when I tried it on my watch. The app was develped for Wear OS 2.0, so my guess is that's why the command doesn't work. I found a different command that works for me on the new OS.
Exactly. In order to control the DND state the app needs the permission from the user. On the phone it's not a problem to grant it but on the watch there is no UI for the user to grant it, the adb command gives the permission to the app. Without it the app can't change the DND state and that's why phone->watch does not work.
Great job...
I don't have my watch4 yet but DND was one of the things I was going to look into but I guess no need to rush anymore...
Also, since you made it and you never released an app before, I hope you signed your apks with release-keys of your own, it will maintain the integrity of the apks whether you release any new version or not, no one can abuse your apks to release updates that can actually update your original work and overwrite it...
Just a dev looking after another ...

Hey, I want to give you a little update: I looked into it and of course I hit a few road blocks, thanks Android..
The battery optimizations introduced in Android 8 make it a bit more difficult than before to listen to the ringer mode changes. I think I found a way to do it, but I'm not sure if or how it will impact battery life, but I think I'm optimistic on that one. Another problem I'm facing is coming from the Android API. When I use the API to enable silent mode it just triggers DND, which is really annoying and I believe it should not? And I believe it is not what your phone is doing and what you are looking for. I've seen people complaining about that in forums but at this point I'm not sure how to deal with this. So overall I get the feeling I'm kind of fighting the Android System at the moment
Also, sorry for the long delay, I don't have a lot of time at the moment since I really should focus on my upcoming exams
Cheers!

Silent can be DND just not vibrate. So that should help you. Also you're awesome for working on this
Just installed this on my GW4 working with my Oneplus 8T. Seems to be working great. Definitely willing to test out any additional changes you may require. In any case, like to say kudos, for developing this.
Pixel 3 and GW4 Classic - DND Sync works perfectly. Bedtime mode, however, does not if you (as I did) reassigned the quick settings buttons.
I now made sure that DND is quick setting button 1 and bedtime mode is button 2, but it's still hit or miss. Sometimes, the swipe gesture isn't performed and I can't quite see why that is.
Edit: one other gripe I have is that bedtime mode gets activated on the watch when I flip my phone over (the setting on the phone is "flip to shhh". That's no good for me, so I turned bedtime mode sync off completely. I still use the dnd sync portion though!
However, I'm already quite enjoying this a lot, DND sync alone is well worth the app. I'd encourage everyone to check it out!
Just posting to see, for those using this, if they are experiencing the watch getting out of sync with the phone. This had been working reliably up until the latest watch update as far as I can tell. Now there are several instance of DND still being on on the the watch, while my phone has disabled DND. Also wise versa, not on while phone has going to DND per schedule. Curious if others have seen the same. I have also noticed that DND/Bedtime mode no longer dims the screen on the watch like it use to, but I believe that a Samsung issue. In any case, curious if anyone else experiencing the same and or if perhaps new version in the works. Again, this had been working great; really liked this app. Hope development hasn't been abandoned.
Note: I just uninstalled and reinstalled on both watch and phone to see if maybe something got screwed up with the watch version update. Will see
Hi there, i´m trying to install this but i got lost on Github, where can i fand apks?
Edit: nevermind, i found it and works excellent dnd sync on pixel 4 xl, thanks a lot
Figured I'd report back that the app is working perfectly again after the reinstall. My guess is that the update on the watch must have reset the permissions or something. In any case, figured I share in case anyone else experiences the same. Happy it's working reliably again.
Excuse me, why does my watch always turn on and off automatically
@rhaeus is there any way to make an app or your app sync alarms from watch to phone and be able to snooze or disable them and have it sync between both devices? This was possible when using a Samsung phone with the Active2.

Stay safe!
