YouTube app keeps getting re-enabled - General Questions and Answers

I'm "playing" with a Chuwi Hi9 Pro tablet these days, and as a good power user, I've also disabled some apps I don't need and cannot be uninstalled. YouTube is one of them. However, I've noticed that it keeps getting re-enabled every day or two. Any idea why this is happening, and how to prevent it (other than rooting the device)? I've only noticed it when it appeared in the pending updates section of Google Play app.
I also disabled all its notifications, revoked all its permissions, etc.
For what it's worth, even Chrome stays disabled.

Open Playstore app then open its app settings, find the "do not auto update apps" option and select it, then turn off the notifications for updates. Then disable YouTube app, it "should" stay disabled.
Also disable app updates from your carrier and your manufacturer if your device has settings related to this.

Auto-updates were already off before (as well as other relevant settings). I disabled "notifications for updates" in Play store later on as well, but unfortunately it didn't help. It seems as though the app reappears once a day (I assume in its factory version) soon after the first connection is done (e.g. after turning airplane mode off).

That is strange, indeed.
Try refreshing your stock firmware, you might have some minor corruption going on, flashing stock firmware would solve it if that is the issue.

Maybe it's "by design"... I'll leave it be for now, it's only been a few days since I bought it (I don't think I did anything to corrupt it so far).

Update from the battlefield... I found out I can actually uninstall unneeded apps for the "current user" with adb shell command "pm uninstall -k --user 0 <name of package>" (I'd been out of Android world for a while, and had no idea that was possible on un-rooted devices.)
I hope this trick also works on Xiaomi devices, in case I get to one again (a while ago I remember a lot of apps had the "disable" button grayed out, which was kind of a dealbreaker).

Talkback notification won't go away

For some reason, the talkback service has decided to tell me it is activated even though it is not. I have a persistent notification that won't go away. Since it's a system service, there is no way to just hide the notification. Any ideas?
Clearing the cache and rebooting didn't help either.
Did you ever figure this out I have the same problem on sprint. You can't even disable the Talkback app.
Nope. I did a factory/hard reset last night. Still the same issue.
I haven't installed any apps I didn't have on my GS5, so it can't be an app's fault. Going to do an exchange at the AT&T store in the next day or two. I'm not getting stuck with something like this.

This would be a workaround (if it does work), but try tapping and holding on the notification, and then click on the "i" icon to see which app is displaying the notification. If it's a stand-alone app (i.e. not the Android system), then you should be able to block notifications for that app.

Thank you, but it is the system app doing it. I'm just going to swap for a different S6 at the store tomorrow. Got my app data backed up to the cloud thanks to Helium.
The messed up part is it literally happened right when I got my phone. I'm gonna try a factory reset then if not try to get it swapped out
@dizzymatt Still have it? It mysteriously disappeared for me today. I was literally going to go to the store this afternoon to exchange this thing. Maybe I got lucky or sensed I was coming!
Afterward, though, the oddest thing happened. I was looking through the store for a different Google product and came across this one called Google talkback. I thought that was very weird to find right after I had had this issue. When I clicked on it, it allowed me to uninstall it. Never saw it in my apps list or the application manager, but there it was. Again, this is after the notification went away from me so I have no idea if this is related.
Here is the link. Maybe uninstalling it will help you.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.marvin.talkback
Seen what you said and I didn't have the app installed but it just disappeared for me too after I rebooted my phone I wonder what it was.

Now I'm wondering if it was related to Google Now since the notification and the ability to say "Ok, Google from any screen went away about the same time.
Disabling Talk back
I got stuck on a 15 minute hell ride when I accidentally turned on my Talkback feature on my new S6. I couldn't turn it off even after toggling the stupid settings. I finally was able to turn it off by tapping the home screen button three times.. apparently that is the On/Off switch for the accessibility features. After it finally stopped talking back to me I went in to manually toggle the off button on that ridiculous feature.
Same problem / solved ?
I had same problem with notification
Decided I would try enable, so that I could then disable
Seems to have done the job

Receiving Notifications only through Wifi!

I am receiving push notifications normally on my Huawei Mediapad x2 until it is Idle for an hour or so.. I receive notifications from Whatsapp normally but after an hour of standby (or even less than an hour), I don't receive notifications anymore unless I open Whatsapp by myself, then I start receiving them again normally. Whereas Facebook for example, when I installed it first, I received notifications normally, but then I do not receive any notification from Facebook anymore unless I launch the app manually. But then Will not receive notifications again until I launch it manually again. Several apps behave like Facebook as well. BUT I DO receive notifications from all apps whenever I use Wifi!
Note that all my Notifications settings are normal, and I've set these apps to launch automatically when the system starts up.
I am a newbie to Android, I am not rooted, updated to 6.0 OTA. Please help!
I wish I could help you, but unfortunately, my notifications have been iffy since I bought the phone in Dec 2015. I'm running stock B112.
Gmail seems to provide instant notifications, especially on Wifi, but notifications on Facebook Messenger are always delayed...I usually have to open the app, at which point it refreshes and starts buzzing with messages one by one until the messages are all loaded. Whatsapp is similar, with notifications appearing on the status bar only rarely. Opening up the app however begins to load and display all messages.
I've tried everything I can, including going into the app settings and allowing all permissions, as well as turning off any of the battery life saver features that might be delaying the notifications. No dice.

I am on B112 on stock unrooted 703L and I don't experience this issue. Make sure you don't close the alp via square open apps button. Huawei kills any app if you do that or close all, even if it's protected
Thank you guys for your support. I have done a Data factory reset, and I still suffer from the same issue when the phone goes into deep sleep, I do not receive notifications anymore from any 3rd party apps. Any other suggestions please?
There's an option in system settings that allows you to keep apps alive, even when the phone has gone to sleep. You need to find that option either in the settings menu, or in the "phone manager app". I've never experience problem with apps that I've "mark/tick" to keep alive.

I have tried.. All settings are correct but still no fix
I think I have the same problem concerning WhatsApp, Wear Messages for my Smartwach and constant pulse measuring with Mi Band Tools.
All of them are only working when I open them manually and if I don't close them via square button to free my RAM and even then they don't work all the time.
I just recently updated from stock B112 to B211 but it is still the same.
I went through all options in every settings menu but it didn't help.
I also tried the app Phone Notification Fixer No Root with no success.
I don't know what else to do.
Maybe a Custom Rom would help.
I really like this phone but this "bug" makes it pretty useless.
Do you have any 3rd party task killer apps installed? Your apps are getting killed when your screen turns off.
Phone Manager -> Battery Manager -> Protected Apps. Turn ON for all those apps.
No, I have no extra task killer and I already protected all apps. I found another older thread here with people who have the same problem and one mentioned it would be a general Huawei problem with the phone manager.
In the same thread I read that you can protect opened apps in the app drawer (square button) when you pull them down. Testing this at the moment and it seems to do the trick. But I will probably test a Custom ROM tomorrow.

If that works for you then it seems what your original issue is that YOU are killing your apps manually using the square button - read my quote below which I wrote here a few days ago already.

I already stopped killing WhatsApp etc via Square before but after some time they stopped working again, maybe because of some timeout?

Ah ok, sorry, I didn't look at the usernames. Well than thank you for the help
To make an app a system app I need root I guess?
I have this same issue but it's not restricted to Wifi (read on).
As others have pointed out, there used to be a setting that would allow programs to run in the background once your phone sleeps (screen off), but this was taken out in Marshmallow anyways. Even with it in lollipop the phone still does this. This is a direct consequence of both Android and EMUI, both of which have stringent algorithms intended to manage resources and save power, so that applications get pre-empted after a certain period of inactivity. This affects Whatsapp, Google hangouts, etc. Actually most of my notifications for these apps only show up after I manually launch them. This means I always miss whatsapp and Hangouts calls. ALWAYS!
So long story short, to get your notifications, just open the respective apps (manually) and they should come through (that is until Android / EMUI decide to clear them from memory).
Also, it would help if you avoid closing these apps using the trash icon at the multi tasking UI.
Hope this helps. I know its annoying, but I wouldn't give up my X2 for another phone

First off, you can still set apps ad "Protected Apps" in Marshmallow, see my post above. Also, my protected apps don't get killed unless I use the square button (which you referred to as the trash in your post). What other apps are u running that make the OS memory cleanup kill your apps?
A short update from my side:
Switched from stock B211 to KangVIP B211, still had the same "issues".
Tried the advice to make certain apps system apps.
Tried it with a app called "/system/app mover" which is free.
Moved WhatsApp, Android Wear and Mi Band Tools to system apps.
Now everything works like I know it from other phones before.
I can kill every app with the built in taskkiller (square button) and I still get notifications from whatsapp etc. instantly. Mi Band Tools constant pulse measuring also working and so does my smartwatch.
Thanks to all the people here for their guides/hints/etc., otherwise I had to sell my X2.
Don't know if I would buy a Huawei/Honor again tough.

Pretty much any app that consumes resources. For example: Chrome with multiple tabs, or Mortal Kombat X.
I also want to point out the behavior definitely repro's if I use the little trash icon (its not square, but it shows up when you use the square button to bring up recent apps), but even if I DON'T use it, Android/EMUI will eventually kill off background apps REGARDLESS OF IF THEY ARE IN THE PROTECTED LIST OR NOT.
This causes a problem with apps that need to always run, such as Whatsapp and Hangouts, where incoming texts/calls almost never make it through since the OS/skin decided to recycle their resources.

Couldn't get this to work. I installed system app mover and made sure I gate it root permissions. However it keeps complaining about busybox not found. I installed busybox as well, still no dice.
Instead I used Titanium Backup pro version (had to pay $6) and had to reboot after each app (Titanium kept hanging at processing but it worked anyways).
That didn't solve the core problem though. I rebooted the phone, made sure to close all apps, and attempted to dial my number.
Hangouts didn't receive the call because it's not "running". When I manually launched hangouts it complained about having to re-install itself. It then opened the google play store and the only option was to "open" it. Again, it refuses to open and keeps saying it needs to re-install itself.
There has GOT to be a way to get apps to act as services. This alone is forcing me to reconsider the X2 as a viable "phone"....
Thanx

Thanks for the tip. This is already off though and the behavior still repro's.
I'm starting to believe its the Android OS itself. I did a test on an entirely different device running an entirely different OEM skin (Verizon Note 4 running oTA marshmallow) and tried opening multiple games and chrome tabs. Sure enough, even with roughly 200 to 300MB of free RAM, the OS stepped in and killed what it deemed to be "not needed". I should also point out that Hangouts notifications work just fine on the Note 4, which leads me to believe EMUI and its Nazi-like power consumption tricks may also have something to do with this.

Notification Issues after B402

Is anybody experiencing problems with notifications after the B402 Update as well? If my phone is in standby for some time, i dont get notifications for Whatsapp and snapchat for example. Even if i turn on the screen or unlock it, they still dont show. I have to open the apps manually to get the messages, which is unacceptable. Anybody knows a solution? However, the battery life improved(who would have guessed that?)
That happens if you don't factory reset after update and/or restore apps from backup.
Try factory reset, install apps from store and restore just the user data of the apps.

Have you disabled "System wakeup" or enabled "Close app after screen off"? If you did, try toggling them and reboot the phone.
Having said that, I have WhatsApp with disabled System wakeup, and I still get notifications, because WhatsApp also utilises Google Play Services to wakeup the app when a notification arrives. I would check the settings of Google Play services on your phone in case something is killing it.

Source? If that was the case, all the people that update their phone would have myriads of problems. Upgrading without factory reset doesn't cause problems as far as I know. Certainly, I haven't had this type of malfunction, and I've never factory-reset the phone since I got it 18 months ago - that includes the Marshmallow to Nougat upgrade.

This is an old issue, as old as android updates.
Sometimes battery performance decreases with the update, some others is FCs, or notifications, missing stock apps.
Source is XDA, several devices, years of experience and other users that share the same experience.
Don't waste your time debating this, if you don't agree, that's fine.
Actually I think the most common is battery performance decrease which is really annoying when changelog says "battery performance optimisation". After a factory reset magic happens. It's due to old system files (internal and external storage) vs new system files.
Same thing happens after consecutive Windows updates, performance starts to decrease because update doesn't properly clean old files and configs.

Delete Zen Mode with Root?

I''ve never turned Zen Mode on.
I've disabled it in several places.
Despite disabling it everywhere, if I am on my phone continuously for 2 hours, I get a notification from Zen Mode telling me to put my phone down and enjoy my day.
I don't like that.
I'm rooted
I went into a root Uninstaller app to delete it, but it is considered a "key module"
Because the app keeps a recycle bin, and decided to Uninstall it anyway.
It wouldn't let me.
Uninstall failed.
Any suggestions?

Remove OPBreathMode and it should be gone.
I use the Root Essential program to remove unwanted programs eg. ZEN MODE
Use ADB to disable it
There is an option it Zen mode to disable the notification, no need to mess around with freezing apps and ADB.
Uninstalling system apps is no longer possible in Android 10 without a Magisk Module or through TWRP. Disabling it is much easier
In ADB type the following:
adb shell pm disable-user com.oneplus.brickmode
-- this is zen mode and this command will disable it.
Change from magisk Canary build 19.4 to magisk stable 19.3 and you can delete anything you want.

Imo, do this.
Use the Debloat magisk mod
You can uninstall it.
If you happen to run Into any problems, the Debloat mod allows you to bring the uninstalled app right back the same way you removed it.
Hopefully you won't need to, but it's a good backup in case your system doesn't like it.
Good luck.
Thanks so much guys.
To start I took Eagles advise & DL'd Root Essentials. I went into Zen Mode planning to delete. Was given pause when I saw it was first installed in 2008. Made me wonder what else is in there since Zen Mode is less than a year old AFAIK. So instead I disabled it, since I didn't see a built-in recycling bin to easily add back if needed.
Root Essentials already seems much better than the other one I'd DL'd. Thank you.
I'm gonna do what Sheetzie suggested & use the Deblote Magisk Module in the next couple days. After I've spent 2 hours straight on my phone again to make sure the pause had an affect.

Like I said, I disabled it in several places already. Plus had never activated it.
If you haven't spent 2 hours straight on your phone, you wouldn't experience what is bothering me. After 2 hours it sends you a notification to get off your phone and go play catch outside. Or something like that. I think the message changes.
No amount of disabling seems to make this stop, so I'm trying to get more serious about it using root access. The responses in this thread have been exactly what I was looking for.
The Root Essential app said it disabled Zen Mode...it didn't
So I went back to Root Essential to delete Zen Mode...it didn't. It couldn't complete the task.
So I got the Magisk Debloater, went into the terminal, and deleted it.
Looks like it is really gone. Went back into Root Essential app and I no longer see it.
When I deleted it showed Zen Mode and OPBreathMode to be one and the same as this thread suggests.
Thank you everyone for your help.
I used ADB to first of all disable Zen Mode. Then I used ADB to uninstall it without issue. I am not rooted. It was simple. It is no longer on my phone at all. OnePlus appears to allow system apps to be uninstalled using this method. Whether they will come back at the next update remains to be seen. I am sure they will come back during a factory reset!
On a side note I wanted my Gmail to be available to remove it from battery optimization because it comes from the factory installed as a service. So I uninstalled Gmail using ADB and it worked just fine. I rebooted and it remained gone. I then installed Gmail from the Play Store and it went back to being installed as a service app, not a user app? Not sure why?
Because, logically, you simply can't remove system apps while not being rooted. They will reside on the phone in a kind of dormant state. Not actually "removed".

I cannot argue with your logic about system apps not "truly" being deleted using ADB without root. However, I cannot find it anywhere on my phone. So I am happy to not even see it. Granted, I am not removing certain apps because of storage space concerns, I am removing Zen Mode because to me it is the epitome of BLOAT!

I used Titanium backup to freeze it.
i also really dislike zenmode
I also really dislike zenmode, I left a comment saying as much on the google play store after i saw it on the update list on google play. I suggest that others also leave bad reviews for this app and maybe it will help get the message across that it should not be forced upon people. It should be optional if it is even bunduled with the os at all.

I "upgraded" to Android 11 and, among the myriad of other issues, I can't open accessibility settings at all. The ROM is stock, not rooted, and opening the accessibility app via the app info screen with the button in the bottom left pulls up a full screen notification that vibrates my phone telling me it detected a baby crying. Accessibility settings don't work at all.
Is anyone else experiencing this? Is there anything I can do that isn't a factory reset in order to fix this? I tried restarting to safe mode and the behavior doesn't change.

Prior to your andoid 11 upgrade did you use adb to remove anything?

Yes, and the accessibility settings were working fine afterwards. I uninstalled things llke Chrome, Facebook services, and the default Samsung browser to name a few. I didn't full on debloat the phone, I only removed things that were actually bloatware I'd never used in the past and won't use in the future. And Facebook. If it matters, I have the unlocked variant of the N20U.
Edit: My next move was going to be pulling up a list of packages somehow that tells me which are installed for user 0 and which aren't to see where the problem lies. But again, I only uninstalled the obvious bloatware such as browsers that other apps would open over my default. Various background services, fonts, themes, etc that are just there but don't use resources, such as the car mode stuff I know I'll never use, was left alone.

The reason I mentioned this was because I had a similar issue whereby selecting accessibility within the settings menu would result in null, meaning nothing would happen. If memory serves me correctly it was related to samsung keyboard that I had removed, but can't be sure. But I believe you're on the right track to figure it out.

I did disable the Samsung keyboard. That could be it. I'll give that a go when I get a chance.

That was it. It was the Samsung keyboard. What a weird outcome for disabling something so trivial. I was trying to reinstall it with the old package name com.sec.android.inputmethod and it took me a while to figure out it is now called com.samsung.android.honeyboard. But once I reinstalled that for user 0 accessibility settings started working again. Thanks for the tip! I guess I'll have to leave that installed then.

Glad it helped. It puzzled me originally also., Found it in the end by backtracking on all the apps I'd uninstalled via adb one by one.

Made an account just to say thank you so much for this. This was the perfect fix for me and I can use half of my apps again since I can use the accessibility app now. Never expected a keyboard uninstallation to scuff half of my apps.
WiggleCat as well for the honeyboard package name.
For anyone needing an easy copy paste into command prompt, it's:
adb shell
cmd package install-existing com.samsung.android.honeyboard

Thanks for the command. It fixed it for me!
Wow, i fixed successful, thanks thread.
Awesome the command fixed this issue on my S20 FE. Thanks so much for sharing!
Damn! that went smoothly. Accessibility fixed after reinstalling the Samsung keyboard. Anyways if someone still doesn't want that annoying keyboard shown, you can disable it via ADB. The command is
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.samsung.android.honeyboard
Thank you for pointing out that the Samsung Keyboard was the issue.
For those of you without immediate access to ADB, you can also redownload the
Samsung Keyboard via the Galaxy Store.

This saved me by inches from factory resetting my phone. However not long enough to save my whole Macrodroid macros library that i had already uninstalled because it was no longer working since it depends on accessibility services and i was desperate to get a solution. However, i have learnt a big lesson that debloating need to be done carefully if not at all. some apps are critical bindles of other critical functions
