Hi guys,
I've had the Mate 8 for about a year now, and looking to upgrade (heavily considering the Mate 9).
One of my biggest complaints, of the Mate 8, is the way EMUI handles start-up apps (apps or processes to launch at system boot. For example... Last.fm scrobbler, GlassWire data manager, etc).
I've read a bit online about how this is a known flaw of a few Huawei phones, and there used to be a solution, in the form of "PM Plus". But that solution does not work for Android 5+.
So, my question... does the Mate 9 suffer from the same issues as previous Huawei phones? Does it restrict apps auto-launch at system boot?
Thanks for any help.
yes it does but you can configure it, at least that's how it is in the Chinese version. kinda like it because you can customize any app the way you want it
Thanks for the reply ilbambino.
I believe I've got the European version of the Mate 8, and I think the Mate 9 sold locally would be the Euro version also.
It is my understanding that the Euro versions (for both phones) do not have the ability to tailor boot apps/services). Do you achieve this through PM Plus, or normal Phone Manager, or other?
I also have a Mate 8. But sorry that I am not yet clear about the form of "PM Plus".
Hi James,
PM Plus is Huawei's utility to allow advanced features in their Phone Manager app.

Lots of reviews saying it doesn't work on later versions of Android.
after ban from google, what do you think, will can update mate 30 pro to android 11,12.
i think huawei after 2019 cant use android, and what if best flagship on market huawei mate 30 pro to stay forever on android 10, only emui to update
for me is big trouble? if huawei will be update to android 11 or newer, and only if google drive and youtube can work for me is OK forever
Huawei updates android version based on AOSP, not google. Of course it can update to android 11, 12....
Hi all,
EDIT - I am reading reports this is also occurring on any Lenovo XiaoXin Pad Pro with the ZUI 13 update (perhaps it's the secondary update that does it?) not just the 12.6 inch version.
I've just upgraded my tablet from a 2021 XiaoXin Pad Pro 11 to the new 12.6" model. In general i'm very happy with it. The screen is a fantastic upgrade (no more near black crush) and Netflix installed from the play store with Dolby Vision support right out the box! There's no real need for me to mess with getting a Global version other than one problem!
On my 11" version I struggled for a while with the tablet force logging me out of things like the play store and youtube vanced. I finally pinned it down to the overly aggressive Lenovo security app. Once I whitelisted the programs I wanted I didn't have any further issues.
While setting up the 12" Pad Pro I received and installed an OTA update which went fine. Once all my apps were sorted I then went to configure the whitelist. The security screen opens to a black screen then immediately closes again. Strangely if I press and hold I can perform a RAM clean and one other function without any issues. The software is defo working as it logs me out apps in the same annoying way as before. So essentially the app has control of my tablet and I have no control over the app!!
I have tried:
Forced Stop / Clear Cache / Clear Storage
Factory Reset
Nether of which have worked.
Any ideas? With this being a chinese Tablet I wouldn't even know where to begin in contacting lenovo!
EDIT:
The ZUI 13 Install on my 2021 Pad Pro 11 is 5.1.06.0235 and works perfectly
The install on my Pad Pro 12 is 5.1.06.0230
Looks like I need an update. Any way to grab this file off the P11 and push it to the P12?
Congrats on your new tablet. I'm quite envious that Dolby vision is working.
Anyways, maybe you can try disabling the security app via adb. At least it won't aggressively kill apps in the background. Though I don't know how you will be able to handle permissions.
Edit: Maybe you can use app ops to handle permission. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=rikka.appops

Thanks I will try this.
Apparently the Security app is used for a few things. Disabling it would be good though!
Update
This seems to be happening on some 11" 2021 models on Zui 13 as well. (See below):

Yup just tried and it failed as there's a newer version on my tablet. For reference The ZUI 13 Install on my 2021 Pad Pro 11 is 5.1.06.0235 and works ok (some issues with the google calendar widget) . The install on my Pad Pro 12 is 5.1.06.0230 and can not be opened and set permissions reset.
Apparently if I was to factory reset my 11 Pad Pro i'd be having the same issue.
Really a rather large screw up on Lenovo's behalf.
Any update to this..has lenovo done anything..I guess not

No sign of an update on the pad pro 2021. I believe there has been an OTA for the 12.6 mines not back from China yet so I couldn't tell you if its fixed.
The patch notes indicate it should be.
Worryingly the Pad Pro 2021 seems to be loosing widevine L1 out of nowhere for some people.

Thanks.. hopefully the p11 will get an update..
First time I've used zui..not the greatest that's for sure..I find autorotate to be pretty slow
Have a same problem. =\
+ same problem with Permission manager (settings - Apps management)
pad pro 2021, ZUI13 last st version, bootloader locked.
Having this issue also on my J716F. Has anyone ended up disabling security app?
I was able to both disable it and uninstall it for user 0 with adb terminal.
the name of the app is com.zui.safecenter
in both cases however nothing is solved, the permissions keep crashing even uninstalling or disabling the app, and also the notification problem doesn't disappear.
We have to hope for an OTA update that fixes the problem or an update of the security app.
i have J716F (xiaoxin pad pro 2021)

Have you tried reinstalling using the shared apk on this thread?
I recently bought a Honor Magic 3, from China and using in India region.
However the themes app doesn't work, saying, not available in your region as soon as I update it.
I also have Huawei p30 Pro, where theme app works perfectly fine.
So how should I downgrade my themes app, because I can't find anyway to uninstall it.
I can downgrade by resetting my phone but that's not a valid option for me, because I'll lose my side loaded gms on doing that, which is a pain in the ass to reinstall.
Hi, I'm a college student and i recently saved up and bought a Nova 9 (NAM-LX9) and have been finding a way to get harmony on it. My main goal for bbuying a huawei was to test and use harmonyos and it took a while for me to get it with the US sanctions and all. I read up a bunch and was wondering if there is any method for this. Most forums i saw were older and for other devices however I did see some people managed it but just said they did with no explantion. Would love to figure this out or it'll be $300 down the drain lol. Thank you!
Actually Nova 9 phones run EMUI 12, what is Harmony OS 2.0.0, AFAIK.
You can install Google Play Store on this phone as shown here
