[Question] Newly bought Huawei Nova 9 Global Harmony OS Update - General Questions and Answers

Hi, I'm a college student and i recently saved up and bought a Nova 9 (NAM-LX9) and have been finding a way to get harmony on it. My main goal for bbuying a huawei was to test and use harmonyos and it took a while for me to get it with the US sanctions and all. I read up a bunch and was wondering if there is any method for this. Most forums i saw were older and for other devices however I did see some people managed it but just said they did with no explantion. Would love to figure this out or it'll be $300 down the drain lol. Thank you!

Actually Nova 9 phones run EMUI 12, what is Harmony OS 2.0.0, AFAIK.
You can install Google Play Store on this phone as shown here

Why can't we just download and sideload Play Services, etc from APKMirror

I apologize in advance for asking what's probably a stupid question. I searched the Mate 30 forums and could not find an answer.
Like the Mate 30, Amazon Fire Tablets run an Android fork without Play Services, Play Store, Google Services Framework and Google Account Manager.
For years, Fire tablet users have been side-loading these .apks from APKMirror with relatively few issues. Has anyone tried that with the Mate 30?
Disclaimer, I don't currently own a Mate 30 (or a Fire tablet) so I can't test this myself.
Here's an XDA thread that explains the process for the latest Fire HD 10. https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd8-hd10/general/google-play-fire-hd-10-2019-9th-gen-t3994563
If you try this I'm sure you would need to use the Android 10 versions of the .apks rather than the Android 9 ones that the Fire 10 uses.
Because Google detect kirin Chips and will refuse to open GMS of it is kirin chipset

google playstore on chinese rom

hi im planning to order a find x2 pro on wondamobile in the future but i want to ask if by them sideloading google playstore does it has the same problem like huawei mate 30 and p40 regarding gms?
Wonda ships all phones with Google Play store installed. They install it themselves. I don't think it will have the same problem as the Huawei phones regarding GMS. Huawei doesn't want you to use GMS, so people who want to use Google services most likely have to find new methods to install them after each new update. Other Chinese brands probably don't care.
I used to have a Chinese model of a Xiaomi phone and I'm pretty sure it didn't have Google Play Store installed out of the box, I had to install it myself and I had no issues whatsoever. Everything worked fine.

"Unscrew" Chinese Huawei P30 ELE-AL00

Hi fellows,
recently I've got a chinese P30 ELE-AL00 as a present. I spent a lot of time trying to enable the google services, installing varios APKs like Google Services Framework, Google Play Services, Google Play, Contact sync, ... and even though everything is installed and all permissions are given, things are still not fully working. E.g. I cannot get Family link to work, as the device is intended to be used by my kid.
It appears that Huawei has somehow locked/crippled the Android on the ELE-AL00 version to prevent re-googl'ification. Since there is currently no way to unlock the boot loader I wonder if its possible to flash an international firmware, such as ELE-L29/ELE-L09 or ELE-L04 where re-googl'ification is supposed to work. The device is currently on EMUI 10.1 . Has anyone ever tried this?
Alternatively, is there any documented way to fully re-googl'ify a P30 ELE-AL00?
Thanks,
cr1spie.

I am using same version as yours with Google play services pre-installed.
Unfortunately I also asked many devs about installing global variant but the answer is No and the device will be bricked.
Huawei p30 doesn't allow me to access Google assistant instead of Hivoice as default and can't install any third party Launchers due to Chinese variant restrictions.
I am using this device with a few compromises and I am happy with it. [emoji4]

Harmony OS update and Google

Hi, I have a P30 (model ELE-AL00) bought from China a few years back. I have Youtube, Google Maps, Chrome browser, Play store, Gboard keyboard, Google, WPS Office, Office, Drive, Google Voice, ... apps installed on my P30 (with EMUI 11.0.0.155(C00E155R1P5)). Now I receive an update for Harmony OS 2.0.0.165. If I update from the current EMUI to Harmony OS, will I lose all the above Google apps and Microsoft apps? Thanks

Thank you so much for the info and the link. I will upgrade my P30 to Harmony OS in the next few days.
My guess is that everything that has to do with Google (apps / services) will no longer be installable / executable, and Huawei can also live well with it: Huawei's main market is China itself and the company holds there a market share of ~40 percent.

As far as I know, both Google apps and Microsoft apps will continue to work well on a Huawei P30 phone after the device upgrades from EMUI to Harmony OS.
Just please make sure that you have disabled the 'Pure Mode' on Harmony OS in order to sideload an apk.
