Hey guys,
My biggest problem in Android has always been UI lag and jerkiness. For a touchscreen device, it's absolutely crucial that response to finger input is instantaneous and snappy. I still haven't used a dual core device, but I've never seen an android device achieve the level of responsiveness of the iPhone 3GS or iPhone 4.
I'm not saying I prefer the iPhones, just that they are the gold standard for scrolling, pinch-to-zoom and user interface responsiveness. I'm wondering why this is. I don't think it's a hardware issue, because LauncherPro is as smooth as the iPhone's homescreens even on a 600mhz processor.
So my question is:
Why can't phone manufacturers achieve consistent smoothness in their custom UIs? I'm referring specifically to Touchwiz and Sense - both the Galaxy S and Desire HD (and Incredible S) suffer from a bit of stuttering jerkiness. Why won't one of them just buy Launcherpro? What kinda technique are the launcherpro guys using to make their launcher so much better?
Why is the Android experience generally less smooth than the iPhone of WP7? This isn't to invite fanboyism or flaming, just a general question - I think even the most ardent Android supporter should be able to admit that Android is less smooth
cheers
zuka
I have been chasing screen size since O2 flame, htc hd2, dell streak 5, note 1 2 and now 3. With GG, and if it does all the video and web browsing i will start the reversal that is finding the most powerful phone that is the tiniest.
Although it is in its early stage, I am hoping that the GG can display exactly what I galaxy note 3 display and once tethered to the phone, the phone can become the mouse for touch UI. That is GG can act like a monitor plus added features uniquely built for it but also the resolution needs to increase as well, 720P is good enough for me.
What do you think? is it possible?
For those of you who are coming from the OnePlus 5T and have had a little time to use your 6, how are you ranking the differences between the two phones? Let's get a comparison thread going.
Here are some sample comparisons to mention.
Which is brighter in direct sunlight?
Which has a stronger/easier to notice notification LED?
Which has stronger notification vibration?
Which has louder speaker?
Which is easier to use one-handed?
Which has better colors in the display?
Which camera do you prefer (low light vs. daylight)?
Which has better battery life?
Which seems more durable against scratches?
Which looks more "premium" or nicer to you?
Which do you prefer overall?
Which seems "faster" in daily use?
Which gets "hotter" to touch with heavy use?
Which alert slider is easier to adjust?
Which has better WiFi performance.
Which has better 4G/LTE performance.
Which has better cellular call reception/audio quality.
Here are some comparisons I found on the web:

I sold my 5T a while back but I will do my best by going off memory...
- The 6 definitely seems brighter in sunlight
- LED seems very dim on the 6, maybe dimmer than the 5T (I don't use it anyway so a non-issue for me)
- Vibration seems about the same and having the 2XL as well, both vibration motors are inferior to the 2XL
- Speaker seems louder and more clear on the 6
- Both feel the same with one-handed use
- Can't recall the colours on the 5T, but the 6's look amazing! Very vibrant
- Don't take too many low light shots, so daylight for sure
- 5T gave me poor battery life; I was getting 8-9 SOT on my 5, then about 4-5 SOT on the 5T. On my 6, I'm easily getting 6-7 SOT!
- Scratches I cannot say much on as I use a case and screen protector on all my phones from day 1
- The glass definitely makes the 6 feel more premium
- Overall, I prefer the 6
- The 6 seems a lot faster than the 5T; it's even outperforming my 2XL in things like app launch speeds!
- The 5T never got noticabley hot and the 6 follows that trend
- Alert slider is fairly easy to adjust on both phones, however I do prefer the new placement on the 6, since I can now adjust with my thumb

OP5T vs OP6 Comparison Thread Reply to Thread
Oneplus 5t and Oneplus 6 are the same company and both are very good smartphone. Nevertheless I think the design of OnePlus 5T looks better than One Plus 6, and there is very little difference between the new model and the old model.

@op Can you add network/modem LTE performance comparison as well? For who aren't familiar 835 packs X16 whereas 845 packs most powerful X20 modem with 4 antennas, which should considerably improve Network reception and performance.. Any tests over this would be very useful!

The OnePlus 6 has a few gaming-specific tricks up its sleeve. The Gaming Do Not Disturb mode is now simply called Gaming mode, similar to what we’ve seen on the likes of the OnePlus 5 and 5T thanks to recent software updates. All the new features that we’ve seen the updates add to the previous generation are available in the OnePlus 6 gaming mode as well.
So you get the option to block notifications while you are gaming, automatically route incoming calls to the speaker, or lock the brightness level during your gaming session. These settings can all be applied to apps that you classify as a game via the settings. The Gaming battery saver mode is still available as well, and we'll see in a bit how that performs on the OnePlus 6.
What's new with the OnePlus 6 is the ability to prioritise the bandwidth available to your games to ensure your experience is as lag-free as possible. Known as Network Boost, this setting ensures that titles with online connectivity like PUBG Mobile and Super Mario Run get priority access to the Internet connection.
we played current Android hit PUBG Mobile. While the game defaulted to its Medium setting, we bumped it up to High, as the Ultra HD option isn’t available yet, and it looked great. From the foliage to weapon models, and even its vehicles, PUBG Mobile is fantastic on the OnePlus 6. It helps that the big screen let us take in more of the surroundings without having to worry about the game’s controls covering up areas we’d be looking at. The only issue is that minor screen elements present on the edges such as the option to change seats in a vehicle, appear to be cropped off. This was with both full screen viewing enabled and disabled.
How good is OnePlus 6 for gaming?
In terms of thermals, the OnePlus 6 just got moderately warm during strenuous skirmishes in Arena of Valor and ran surprisingly cool in everything else, even outdoors. The AMOLED display held up well in direct sunlight too and despite just a single bottom-facing speaker, the sound was decent if you decide not to use its 3.5mm headphone jack — an increasing rarity among flagships.
All in all, the OnePlus 6 is an excellent followup to last year’s OnePlus 5 in terms of gaming performance with improvements across the board thanks to its generous specs and excellent heat management. Regardless of your affinity for the notch and a gaming battery saver mode that isn't as well-optimised as it possibly could be, this is one of the better phones for gaming this year.

I saw a demo version of the phone in a store and the vibration and haptic feedback was even weaker than my old One Plus 5.
I am waiting to buy the Nebula Blue on the 28th of this month but my only reason for upgrading was the weak vibration in the OnePlus 5. But if the One Plus 7 vibration is so weak, doesn't make send for me to upgrade now. Will appreciate all comments, thanks.
compared to my huawei mate 10 pro, the op 7 pro is stronger.
Mines pretty damn strong. Can also up the vibration in settings to tune to your need. If that's not enough, custom kernels exist for a reason
I had the OnePlus 5 and still have the 6 and the vibration in the 7pro is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger then either of those 2 phones. I wouldn't be able to even hear the 5 or 6 vintage on the table next to me. I can hear the 7pro vibrate across the room with the TV on. I would also not feel the vibration in the front pocket of my khakis in the 2 permits phones but I never miss email/text/calls with the 7pro.
The vibration in the 7pro is definitely a win.
It's very strong when set to Strong!
The One Plus rep tried every setting in the book to match the vibration of my One Plus 5 but couldn't. Finally he told me the haptic feedback is only evident whilst playing games like Pubg etc. I almost gave up on the idea of buying the phone because of weak vibration. Thanks for your replies, everyone.

Between the 5 and the 6 is there a improvement. I was also considering the One Plus 7 instead of the Pro.

It's the same exact motor. Flar2 who does EX Kernel wasn't able to really increase the vibration much as it was a limit on the motor itself and that was on both the 5 and 6. So it just wasn't a setting like they nurfed the intensity, it was just that the motor was such junk and didn't have the strength to be increased.
Edit:
Just a little evidence, EX Kernel was default vibration sensitivity was set at 49 if I remember and taking it to 100 did nothing for the vibration strength in both the 5 and 6
Thanks for the reply. Now I know what I would get if I buy the 7.

Which one?
The motor is not only stronger, but also much better as it has a wider range of "feel" to the vibrations. Like the Pixel phones have. It's not quite as fully featured as the iPhone's 3D touch, but definitely a huge improvement!

This phone has a different motor and can be increased a lot with a custom kernel. Stock setting is 30% and it can be increased to about 70% before it starts to rattle a bit .

Yeah that's what I said. Try reading again. The OnePlus 5 and 6 have the exact same motor but the 7 pro is SIGNIFICANTLY stronger.
LOL Flar2.. I read again and I think I took the context wrong. I though you were correcting me all good!
Would never know first thing I disable.
But when I was setting up the device, I noticed that it was really strong "one of the reasons I had to disable"
I'd like to increase the haptic vibration on my OP7Pro a little because I really like it. I have it rooted and installed the Kirisakura kernel and Ex kernel manager pro. By default it's set to 30% and I find I'd like it a little stronger, but the next step at 40% rattles the device with the navigation keys so much that you can really hear it.
Is it possible to set it in the middle like 35%? How does everyone else have it?
I also think 35% would be perfect. I am using 40% and I hear a little rattling
I just got my One plus 7pro and can confirm that the vibration and haptic feedback on my old One Plus 5 is stronger than the One plus 7pro. There is a third option in the vibration settings in the One Plus 5 viz "vibrate on tap" and this is missing in the One plus 7pro. Could be because of this. I have both phones side by side and there is no question that the vibration and haptic feedback on the One Plus 5 is stronger.
The change in OnePlus 7 Pro's haptic engine is not only the strength or power, it is the quality
of the engine and how it differs in actual feel, it doesn't fizz anymore, it has a tactile feel to it and
haptic engine itself is a linear engine, not a circular motor like in previous models:
https://9to5google.com/2019/05/09/oneplus-7-pro-vibration-motor/
Right now OnePlus 7 series haptic feel/engine are even better than Pixel 3 and the only phone that has a slightly better haptic/taptic engine, is Apple's iPhone, IMHO.
I think one plus need to enable VIBRATE ON TAP option for the One Plus 7pro
