OP5T vs OP6 Comparison Thread - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

For those of you who are coming from the OnePlus 5T and have had a little time to use your 6, how are you ranking the differences between the two phones? Let's get a comparison thread going.
Here are some sample comparisons to mention.
Which is brighter in direct sunlight?
Which has a stronger/easier to notice notification LED?
Which has stronger notification vibration?
Which has louder speaker?
Which is easier to use one-handed?
Which has better colors in the display?
Which camera do you prefer (low light vs. daylight)?
Which has better battery life?
Which seems more durable against scratches?
Which looks more "premium" or nicer to you?
Which do you prefer overall?
Which seems "faster" in daily use?
Which gets "hotter" to touch with heavy use?
Which alert slider is easier to adjust?
Which has better WiFi performance.
Which has better 4G/LTE performance.
Which has better cellular call reception/audio quality.
Here are some comparisons I found on the web:

I sold my 5T a while back but I will do my best by going off memory...
- The 6 definitely seems brighter in sunlight
- LED seems very dim on the 6, maybe dimmer than the 5T (I don't use it anyway so a non-issue for me)
- Vibration seems about the same and having the 2XL as well, both vibration motors are inferior to the 2XL
- Speaker seems louder and more clear on the 6
- Both feel the same with one-handed use
- Can't recall the colours on the 5T, but the 6's look amazing! Very vibrant
- Don't take too many low light shots, so daylight for sure
- 5T gave me poor battery life; I was getting 8-9 SOT on my 5, then about 4-5 SOT on the 5T. On my 6, I'm easily getting 6-7 SOT!
- Scratches I cannot say much on as I use a case and screen protector on all my phones from day 1
- The glass definitely makes the 6 feel more premium
- Overall, I prefer the 6
- The 6 seems a lot faster than the 5T; it's even outperforming my 2XL in things like app launch speeds!
- The 5T never got noticabley hot and the 6 follows that trend
- Alert slider is fairly easy to adjust on both phones, however I do prefer the new placement on the 6, since I can now adjust with my thumb

OP5T vs OP6 Comparison Thread Reply to Thread
Oneplus 5t and Oneplus 6 are the same company and both are very good smartphone. Nevertheless I think the design of OnePlus 5T looks better than One Plus 6, and there is very little difference between the new model and the old model.

@op Can you add network/modem LTE performance comparison as well? For who aren't familiar 835 packs X16 whereas 845 packs most powerful X20 modem with 4 antennas, which should considerably improve Network reception and performance.. Any tests over this would be very useful!

OnePlus One better than OnePlus 2...and why?

Hi there. I'm choosing between the OnePlus One and the OnePlus 2 as my next phone due to their OS being better than vanilla Android. But what is this i'm hearing that the older model is better then the current flagship? SO i would like to ask:
1. Which one has a better camera?
2. Which one has a slightly louder speakers?
3. Is it true the OPOne has better battery life/more optimised software than the OP2 despite having a smaller battery capacity?
I'm also worried that the OnePlus One might be left behind with newer/constant updates compared to the OnePlus 2.
Please help. Many thanks.
1) the op2 has a slightly better camera and (afaik) optical image stabilisation. Which helps in video recording and low light performance.
2) I can't say anything for the op2 speaker but the opo speakers are some of the loudest I heard in a phone.
3) battery life is definitely better on the opo. Many people are getting over 5 hrs of sot whereas the op2 seems to get around 4hrs.
And for updates I wouldn't be concerned for the opo. The devs here on xda are doing a great job at updating the opo. We got a quite stabile cm13 within weeks of marshmallow release and it has been daily driver material for many people since the begging with only very minor bugs.
I would say the opo is in almost no way inferior to the op2. Apart from not having a fingerprint sensor and the optical image stabilisation for the camera.
It comes down to your needs and your budget.
I bought my 64gb opo quite some time after the release of the op2 and I can safely say this is the best phone I have owned for my needs. On wifi it is not rarely seen to get 6 to 8 hours of sot. Something the op2 owners can only dream about.
Also check this thread for some more info http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=3287486
1. Which one has a better camera?
cant answer as ive never touched a OP2
2. Which one has a slightly louder speakers?
My OPO has a mod called Viper4Android and its definatley louder than any phone I have ever heard including the iPhone 6s. Please bear in mind that when playing music each file has a waveform and while it may be the same song when comparing one wave can always be higher than the other which causes differences in volume.
3. Is it true the OPOne has better battery life/more optimised software than the OP2 despite having a smaller battery capacity?
in terms of optimisation it is definitely better (only ever used a custom rom) but I think that is entirely optimisation and eventually the oneplus two will catch up and be close. But one thing to remember here is that the OP2 uses the snapdragon 810 and the OP1 uses the 810 and if you google things like the power efficiency and management many people say the 801 is better.
This is supported by the fact that the 810 runs hotter. now it depends on a lot of factors but generally the less power a chip uses and the smaller it is means the less heat it outputs.. so assuming they use the same size die and rough layout it suggests the 801 uses less battery to complete the same tasks
I'm also worried that the OnePlus One might be left behind with newer/constant updates compared to the OnePlus 2.
This all depends on how many people get it. I honestly think most of the people who want a phone like the oneplus 2 already have a op1 and will only update if they have moneys to spare

Good to know, thanks. XD
I've owned both (sold the 2 and back on the one). The 2's camera is probably better, but the one is no slouch. Sometimes the 2's pictures get almost a water color painting effect when you zoom in 100%. Check out the xda page and look at some of the photos. The opo speakers are MUCH louder than the 2. The 2 also only has 1 speaker on the bottom and was easy for me to cover while holding the phone 1 handed, this completely muting the sound with my pinky finger only.
For me the 2 didn't have horrible battery life but the opo is better (for me)....

Haven't had the oneplus 2 but my only gripe after over a year with the oneplus 1 is the rubbish vibrate... It's loud when out on a table/desk but almost unnoticeable when in your pocket.

Haha, thats true. It makes more noise than it actually vibrates. But it's just something minor in my opinion.
The Oneplus One still is a great phone with amazing battery life! And yeah, when looking at the OP2's price I'd say the OPO is just more worth the money!

Better battery and NFC, I'd love a fingerprint reader on the OPO though...

OP3 vs OP6 Display

So I've had the op3 since it's launch in 2016 and it's been a great phone that has slowly deteriorated in recent times in terms of battery life especially and I've become less impressed with it's display recently especially when I compared it to a Nokia 7 plus display which is 402 ppi and LCD,but I found the display noticably crisper on it compared to the op3
My op6 is on its way now and I'm hoping to see a good difference in the display.I see that the display for op6 is also 402 ppi compared to 401 on the op3.
The op3 display is okay but colors kind of look washed out at times and the blacks don't look that black, It's never sharp and crisp,
Has anyone compared the two and found a noticable difference, maybe the display has gotten better since the op5 ??
Supposedly the op6 has a surprisingly good display for only being 1080p.
I'm coming from a Galaxy S8 with a QHD screen and find the OP6 screen to be perfectly crisp and fine, loving it
I also came from a QHD Samsung. The OP6 display is great, despite the lower resolution.
One criticism of it would be the max brightness is hardly enough outdoors. Just a little brighter would help. Samsung was much brighter, but I've never seen a OP3 to compare with. Otherwise, the OP6 display is nice.
I compared them both side-by-side.. Not a lot of difference in terms of sharpness.. Better color reproduction on op6.. Whites are more pronounced,a bit brighter too.
I'm coming from a 3t and I was surprised by how big of a difference there is, somehow op6 screen looks much sharper
Samsung and apple before going QHD (or "retina"): "That's just a meme no one actually needs that!"
Them now: "Everyone else's phone sucks ass we have way more pixels than them lolololololol!"
It's decent 1080p, great depending on what phone you coming from. Not usable on bright sunny days. Been a week and eyes still trying to adjust.
Perfer my note 8 screen. Night and day. Take 30minutes less of sot.

I came from OnePlus 3t and the difference was unbelievable , brightness in daylight is much better, lower brightness at night is more achievable and the biggest difference I found between the 2 when put next to each other is the whites. After 1.5 year the 3T gives a yellowish white while the 6 gives a true white color

Sounds promising, looking forward to comparing to my op3 when my six finally arrives this week.I do notice the yellowy, gray whites on the op3
Got my op6 this morning, don't see any great difference in display,so far not really impressed with the phone at all, pretty much the same as op3 with faster processor

That's great to hear. I've had to pay for a VERY expensive screen replacement on my S8 because there were no tempered glass protectors available. I just cannot bear to use a naked screen for fear of micro scratches.
My OP6 will be delivered tomorrow.
I have a request to make. How does netflix and prime video play on the OP6? does it play in HD ? The 5T had problems playing HD content when it released and none of the reviews of the 6 ive seen talk about that.

Yes,all this is true,I was referring more to the display,it's pretty much the same as the op3,the user experience also, I notice zero improvement in speed, although I know there is, battery is pretty much the same for me so far too, saying all that though I'm still happy because I know OnePlus will continue to optimize
Have the op6 over a week now and the display is definitely better somewhat than the op3.
Do think that content has a lot to do with it,hd images look much more crisp than ones with standard definition.
For example the OnePlus stock wallpapers don't look that great and are washed out,but if I use wallpapers from apps like backgrounds and Zedge they look amazing
I also came from OP3. The display on OP6 is much much better. OP6 screen is better outdoor compare to the 3.
The OP6 is very fluid.
I am actually dissapointed with OP 6 display to the point I am thinking of selling the phone. What bothers me the most is the PWM brighteness regulation bellow 25% witch such a low frequency. But I read it is common for all OLEDs so if you were happy with OP 3 you will be with this one.

This.
I also came from OP3. Compared the display side by side, and to be honest, there is barely a difference. The biggest difference is that the OP6 is better in daylight. I would say the display picture quality has not moved much since the 2016.
The biggest difference for me was the battery life. I simply love it.

Advice on Pixel 2 or Huawei P20

Hello,
In my country I can get the Pixel2 and Huawei P20 at around the same price, P20 being a bit cheaper, depending on the deals.
Now I am aware that Pixel 2 is an older device but it has it's pros.
What I like and dislike about p20:
+ lcd screen without Pulse With Modulation
+ modern design
+ dual cameras
+ fingerprint scanner on the front, making easier to unlock when on my desk
+ fingerprint scanner gestures which allows disabling the nav bar
+ software with customization
- notch, but from what I've read it can be disabled easily
- no stereo
- back glass which can be broken and is slippery
- updates my come slow
What I like and dislike about Pixel2
+ another almost 2 years of updates
+ metal back
+ stereo speakers
- amoled with PWM
- design
Usually reviews tend to be for the P20 Pro, especially long term ones so the P20 is a bit shadowed by it. I do not root or use custom roms. I do like to read on the phone, that is why no PWM comes as an advantage. I also need it to take great pictures without too much config. So if anyone owned P20, can share the downsides compared with Pixel 2? How are the cameras in comparison ? Are there any downsides of Pixel 2 in terms of hardware issues?
Thank you for your time.
Pixel 2, no contest. P20 may be a better device on paper, but it can't stand a chance next to the Pixel 2. My colleague has one, and we've compared the cameras, the Pixel 2 beats P20 in every shot (except maybe zoom on some occasions).
Software wise, ugh. EMUI on the P20 is just garbage and feels like Android KitKat and iOS 7 had a baby. Just no.
So from me, get yourself a Pixel 2 and enjoy.
I love my Pixel 2. I only wish it got some better battery life. It's actually the best size for me. I don't mind the bezel because of the dual stereo speakers.
Thank you very much for your answers.
I use the Pixel 2, owned the p20 for a few months.
It is a tough call, but i would go for the pixel again no question about it. But it depends on what you value more.
The camera on the pixel us much more reliable always good shots . software experience much better. I use gestures on the Pixel ( Fluid NG app).
For me the P20 was better on battery and screen size.the fingerprint gestures are great as well. The speakers better on the pixel of course.
@icstrim1 you mention that the camera on pixel is more reliable, does this mean that on P20 you got bad pictures some times? Or does the P20 require more adjustments before taking a picture? Also the software isn't more customizable that the one on pixel?

On the auto mode with Huawei i got bad pictures sometimes, oversharpens a lot especially in rock walls or buildings. Also folliage backround detail looks more realistic on the Pixel.
I couldn't get rid of the oversharpening on the Huawei, there seem to be no real cure for auto mode.
If you take photos of children or landscape, the Pixel is a better choice in my view.
I prefer the clean Android, much smoother , almost addictive. But emui is not too bad.
Thank you o much @icstrim1, very helpful information.
One last question, the P20 has a screen without Pulse With Modulation, while the Pixel's amoled has around 245Hz PWM. Do you notice any eye strain/tiredness or other issues on the pixel's screen vs P20?
Thank you again for your time
You are welcome.
I actually like the oled more, no issues with eye strain.
Let me know if you have other questions.

On some levels Id say OP7 pro is better for sure. Faster internal storage, faster overall user experience, faster updates, no camera hole, 90 hz screen. Its definitely cheaper as well if that matters
But the cameras (front and rear) won't match the S10, no external storage, only 256gb of internal storage compared to 512 and 2tb on S10. No wireless charging, no IP rating (bucket of water hardly counts) lol.
It will certainly not destroy the S10 that's for sure.
Samsung wins in the camera department by far
Now it depends what do you prefer

Yes I agree, The camera part of the Oneplus is a bit weak compare to the S10 series.
TL;DR: Go for OnePlus 7 Pro. Easy choice.
Personally I think Samsung's flagship devices are a waste of money. Before you read on! I'm not fully updated on all of what I'm going to complain about, so it might've changed!
To me, Samsung has nothing unique to offer, yet their devices are almost as expensive as an iPhone. Which in my opinion is insane. Samsung offers a ****ty version of Android that looks **** (think it actually looks better now than it did before), full of bloat; it doesn't even let you uninstall Instagram. Personally I'm not a huge fan of their self-made apps either. In my opinion, it would be better to spend that money on an iPhone, which at least offers something unique (being iOS).
When it comes to OnePlus. They seem to have a great vision when it comes to how they do things. One of the things I really like with them, is that you're allowed to root the phone, and you won't void warranty. Though, to lots of people, rooting isn't very major. However, their version of Android is very nice. It is close to stock Android, has close to no bloat. The bloat that it has, you can uninstall (with root). Their hardware is very nice, and now more than ever with their new OnePlus 7 Pro (OP7P). Then the price you pay is less than any other phone with same specs.
When it comes to camera, there might be better options. However, OP7P has a very decent camera, and when someone ports the Pixel camera app to work on OP7(P), it will (probably) improve the camera greatly.
I own both the 7 Pro and the S10+
This is coming from someone who hasn't owned a Samsung since the Note 4 and has owned almost every OnePlus device.
While the 7 Pro is a really good phone the S10+ is just better. The only things better on the 7 Pro is the screen scrolling, OnePlus gestures (best Android gestures hands down), UFS 3.0 storage, and screen off gestures.
The fingerprint reader is faster on the 7 Pro but the fingerprint reader on S10+ works when your fingers are wet, and you don't need to wake the screen to use it.
I do like the size of the 7 Pro (I like bigger phones) but in-hand the S10+ feels better, 7 Pro is thicker than the S10+.
Samsung's new One UI is nothing like the old Touchwiz. The S10+ has so many customization option it's not even funny. I have found no reason to want to root the S10+ (coming from someone who has rooted every single phone they have owned).
7 Pro camera is ok but the camera on the S10+ is good if not great (not Pixel great).
I had the s10 and returned it. The finger print sensor on it was not working consistently. Samsung has too much bloatware for me and didn't see a major difference from my pixel 2 xl. Only good thing about Samsung is Samsung pay. Op 7 so far I'm loving it. It depends on what you are looking for. I don't really care for camera and I'm not worried about getting some water on the phone. Also i don't use wireless charging. The specs on op7 are ridiculous for the price. Plus op7 will get the latest updates including Q faster than Samsung phones.
I have a one question.which the op7 display quality compare the s10+?

OP7 is water proof though, they just didn't care to pay for the IP-certification.
I have the ceramic 10+ it is lovely but I will say that the 7 pro looks terrific, Oxygen OS and the fast updates are tempting and I am not expecting Q anywhere near the 10+ until 2020. The camera edge is probably still just with the 10+ and the expandable storage too but other than that the 7 pro is a compelling package for sure, well almost…..
….For me though an always on display and wireless charging are important features, I could probably do without wireless charging but with them marketing it as a pro model it really should have been included IMO. As for the always on display with so many OEMs offering this now that there is no reason for me to consider OP until they do too. I get that some people do not rate this feature but me it has fast become a must-have.

How does the 10+ camera compare to your Pixel 2 XL? I've just come from a Pixel 2 XL to the 7 Pro and the difference is huge, there is a lot of hope riding on GCam turning this camera around - i've got a 15 day window to return the 7 Pro and it will be going back if there isn't progress on the camera front (and then possibly going the S10+ route if the camera is any better).

Well the main sensor is pretty good on the 7 pro, we don't know about the other sensors (wide, tele) though. It might get better in the future, because the main sensor is pretty good and the weakest part seems to be the software for now. Also, you can't film with the wide angle lens on the 7 pro, and we don't know if that will be possible in the future. That's the reason why I will wait 1 more month until I decide which phone I will buy. The worst case: I have to wait until Google releases their pixel 4 because I can't stand the design of the pixel 3 XL.
I have the S10+ and have a OP7 in the box right now, probably switching over.
S10+ still lags if not rebooted every couple of days for me.
Exynos camera is meh and so is standby time.
I like the S10 but it didn't live up to the hype, want a phone I don't have to baby
Snapdragon is a different story from what I've read
The OS and notchless screen are huge selling points for me.
Won't really miss wireless charging too much, don't use the SD slot as I have 2 Sims.
Agree, being shortchanged with the exynos has left a sour taste this year.
I'm just not sure I could lose an AOD, especially as the is no led. I tried before and it bugged the hell out of me. I am though still very tempted!

I caved and purchased the OP 7pro so now have both and 2 weeks in and I am conflicted on the OP7 vs the S10+.
The OP is a beast and I have found it more of a burden to carry and use than my S10+, it also makes an iPhone Xs max look small! I have also missed the always on display, wireless charging a little but no big deal. I’d also say that outside the extra brightness of the Samsung makes it easier to see, again no biggy. I prefer pretty much everything else about the OP7 Pro though and one thing I have noticed (and have posted this over on the S10 forum) is how much better the radio performance is on the OP7, I think this may be more down to the S10+ being bad than the OP7 being really good but at my work for example the S10 clings to 1 bar of 4G and often drops to 3G whereas the OP7 is rock solid on 3 or 4 bars of 4G all day. I have also installed Gcam and it works really well.
I won’t comment too much on the FPS, both work ok with the OP being quicker and the S10 being maybe more convenient on account of not having to wake the screen first. I do though still prefer a rear mounted sensor like the Pixel which is IMO just a better, quicker and easier option.
Re the AOD I read that OP have said they are working on this but are still citing battery concerns, given how good and polished oxygen OS is I just do not get why OnePlus are finding it so hard to provide a proper always on display? Lots of other OEM’s have managed it, LG even managed it on an LCD screen. Anyway fingers crossed they are at least on the case now.
So overall it is a seriously good device, I do though wish it was just not quite so big.

Why does it have to be unique, I don't care about that? I care about it being a good phone, a well rounded one at that. It's hard to pack a lot of features into a cheaper phone, and often results in some corner cutting and that's what happened. The pop up camera is a DISASTER and all over China one plus has had to offer an apology and a slightly extended warranty, I'd never trust that and it collects a whole lot of dust around the top of the camera port when sitting in your pocket and such, regardless of the waterproof red ring on the top.
One UI is great, I bought the s10+ and never received Instagram, and not much bloatware at all, oneUI has almost no issues besides Bixby, which Samsung even lets you disable. OneUI has been garbage, but its great in this new phone, just look at what most reviewers have to say. The s10+ is way more well rounded then the op7 pro, which has some standout features but some pitfalls top. 90HZ is great but still isn't a huge difference and the battery life is quite poor on the OP 7 pro, I went to t-mobile and didn't notice much of a difference if at all, I did notice a difference with the 120hz razor phone though, maybe if you slow the phone down by 5x the 90 hz will have a big difference.
And you're acting like iPhones are a similar value, the hardware of iPhones in general doesn't even compare to Samsung, they're GARBAGE. Unlocked right now is a s10+ and a XR for around the same price, 880p LCD vs 1440p 4k OLED display, 18 watt vs 5 watt charger, 4100 mah battery vs 3200 mah, wide angle + telephoto lens, no giant notch and a bigger screen, slightly curved edges, headphone Jack, expandable storage, way more ram AND storage. Gtfo saying these phones are close in that regard, apple is only for iOS, why would you rather buy an iPhone. Without nova launcher, Samsung offers LOADS of customization. Also real world pricing is 29$ for a OP 7 pro a month with t-mobile which is the only seller in the US, sprint is 25$ for a s10+ with upgrade plan and all, which makes a lot more sense then spending way more to buy a phone outright vs only paying half price then upgrading to the latest and greatest phone of your choosing, keep in mind most people use carrier plans so this is the more realistic example. Oh and no wireless charging with the OP 7 pro, IP rating, headphone Jack, expandable storage, etc.

Biased much?

OP7P or S10?

In my region, the S10 is cheaper than the base 7 pro. I like both phones, but I can't wrap my head around on which one to get.

I would get the 7 pro OxygenOS is it's own custom ROM and OnePlus is very generous when it comes to hacking their phones
In my few days using the OnePlus 7 Pro I can't say for sure which one is better. It is close honestly. Do you rely on custom roms/root more of a main big time solid feature packed phone?
Oneplus is going to have more room for development as far as root and rom goes but Samsung is going to have more app support and many many more users.
Samsung camera hardware is solid. I miss my S10+ camera a little so far but not as much as when I missed pixel camera! I think the next few updates will be big for OPO and camera
Battery is very close so fair between them with a slight edge to the S10+
Screen, honestly this is my biggest shock where the Oneplus might take the gold here, that full unobstructed screen is great and bright and vibrant. Love that I can make my phone and laptop both DCI-P3 or srgb. Do not know why more manufacturers don't add normalized color profiles into their devices
UI is close, maybe a slight edge to Samsung because of a few more added features but then again this is almost personal preference
So as you can see they are extremely close in almost all areas

I hack my phones when the manufacturer drops support for it. I'm now more incline to get the 7 pro than the s10 now.
If you value camera quality get the s10. If you value a closer to stock Android expericnes and software updates get the OP
