Gallery app with Group Similar Face (like Google Photos or Huawei Gallery app) - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

Hello all,
I came from Huawei P20 Pro and I loved it's gallery app as it can detect face in the photo and group similar faces.
Does any one can port that app or find me a similar app as I have tons of pictures and some time I need to search photo by people detecting there face?
Thanks!

Google photos can do this but depends on the region you're living in.
There's a workaround for this if necessary , just google it.

Google Photo Clone

Hey there at the moment I am using WD mycloud to synch photos, its a kludge and not all that flexible. Has anyone coded a Google photo clone that'll work with the P40?
I use Dropbox (free account with 15GB) for full resolution.
Also sideloaded GServices with google photos (it works sometimes, you may have to open the app to start the backup)
As a paid option Plex works great with your own home server. (one time payment)

Sure, I did I friday (22.05) used the greek video from the guide post to download the files, first time the app with the G icon gave me an error but I did a factory reset and didn't let the phone connect to the internet until that step (prob. some background updates)
do you have a link to the video?

This is the one, but others should work, like this.
I am ditching google photos and moving to amazon photos ...
if you really want to keep using google apps, then this isn't really the ideal phone.

Accessing Google Photos on P40 Pro

Hi guys,
just received my p40 pro this week and was confused if i would be able to access my photos as they were all backed up to google photos on my p20 pro, searched on app gallery and found "Google Photos Website" link. It takes you direct to the website, i signed in then just added a shortcut to the home page so seems to work perfectly. It seems you can upload back to it as well but i thought i would be as well starting to move everything onto the Huawei cloud for ease going forward? Let me know what you think is best if you have done this yourselves guys.
thanks

Another question but related to google, how have you found Huawei's alternative services like the Cloud, Music ID account? Also are you still using Google maps or have you tried anything like Here We Go?
Thanks
I think people are syncing via dropbox.
i am using amazon photos.
if you dont like the website of google photos, then I guess you are stuck with HMS+GMS

P40 Pro with HMS, No GMS

Hello everyone,
So i have been posting about banking apps how to get them and other apps. I have noticed a lot of people side loading GMS or trying to and was wondering why?
I don't have GMS on my device, I'm happily using HMS as the two are not built to run together. I have all my banking apps, social media, games ect on HMS via Phone clone, App Gallery and Petal search. I still use my Gmail via the Huawei email apps no problems.
Would love everyone's feedback as to why the need for GMS?
I have been temped to load it on myself. The issue for me would be my ease of use with all the apps under one store and not having to rely on your banking to come across from previous phone. Also with the GMS again it is the ease of use knowing I can log on my laptop after and it is synced over, Youtube is a big thing for many people aswell. I used Vanced, which is good but i can't log in and subscribe to channels i am a fan of also it doesn't hold the place in the video you are watching if you need to close the app for various reasons.
I have also considered a side load but tbh there's nothing on gms I that I don't already have on my p3
40 Pro.
When I cross refrenced the Google Services I actually only ever used Photos, Maps and YouTube
For me having these replacements from the get go on my Huawei P40 Pro was a easy transition - Huawei Cloud, Here We Go and YVLR
HMS is bigger and better than I thought, Android OS has helped massively.

YouTube and PlayStore and Barclays are the only sticking points and reasons why I'd want it to be honest!

I am perfectly happy living within Huawei's ecosystem
So Barclays is a go to for me and to have it on my P40 Pro would be amazing I am currently using the weblink saved to device but find myself using Barclays official app on my Huawei M5, I hope Barclays can devolp an app for HMS this side of the year.
GMS is no big requirement for myself I looked at the GMS folder and only every use Photos, Maps and YT all of these have a workaround on HMS, goodbye GMS hello HMS.

Hi, so i would say best approach for a lot of this is,
1 Download petal search, this gives you access to many app stores via one application. Making life easy.
2 Use Huawei ID which you can set up in settings, this allows you to do the same thing you can access your device from a laptop and pull over all the info from your phone which is cool.
3 The banking app i wouldn't say is a massive thing in regards to using Phone Clone, most people will use this app when setting up there new phone to pull your data over. So its not adding any more steps in for set up.
4 I personally just use the browser for YouTube and save it as a shortcut to my home screen. You can log in and when you switch window it saves your place on the video, so if you need to send a text ect this is perfect.
I hope this helps

This big thing i think people are missing is, people swap from IOS to Android every day. They swap from one system to another one, now there's a third option. And if you have seen IOS 14 they are looking to adopt 3rd party apps which is what HMS already offers.

Huawei have done a good job at making the transition easier for user coming from GMS Huawei or other phones like IOS or Android ect. There are easy work arounds for everything and if you love having complete control HMS is 100% what you want.

Browser or Youtube Vanced are good options.
I have GMS installed for a couple of minor local apps but the majority works fine with HMS give it a bit and i will remove GMS.
My only gripe for now would be Android Auto which i use daily.

To think Huawei has been through leaps and bounds and now with the Trump tantrum its only proved how strong Huawei are and to think Huawei have started up HMS with Android in a very strong position unlike most quote Nokia / Microsoft / Blackberry.

When i have used auto in the passed i have found it very inconsistent. Found waze is the best for maps.
Ive tried a sideloaded mate30 pro and initially I thought it was a wow moment, but after a couple of weeks I realised I wasn't getting the best out of my device especially as it hugely affected the battery performance, and since giving that to my wife and sharking her upgrade to the p40 pro I can say I prefer the HMS device. Shes reset the phone and stripped out GMS or shall i say I did lol and other than the Barclays app we are sorted. I mean utilising phone clone/app gallery/ petal search im completely set up. I was ever so worried about the function of not being able to cast to my chromecast however on my smart tv downstairs I can screen share using the wireless projection function. SO life continues and my device is awesome

Well it depends i dont have issues now with my P40 P but i did with my S20U. Also firmware of the car and a good cable is important. For now it is stable.
TBH it might have just been the car that was the issue. Always use the cable that is provided with the device.

What car do you drive? I have an Audi atm and have just had zero luck getting it to work either on older GMS devices. I'll continue to angle my phone in the cup holder.... I heard rumours of something called HiCar coming later down the line? :cyclops:

Alternative App Advice

Hello, everybody.
I recently bought a P40 Pro, a phone that I am absolutely LOVING. The only minor issues that I'm having is finding reliable alternatives for a few things.
I absolutely love the device, the app gallery and Petal Search has been amazing, however I am struggling to find the following:
A free, reliable and easy to use alternative to Google Sheets.
A map app that works well and is as good as Google Maps for using as a satnav day to day.
And could somebody please teach me how to bookmark the Youtube HTTP so that I can put it on my front page?
Thanks a lot,
Cameron

Hi, just got mine and so far Microsoft Office on the App Gallery has worked amazingly.
For maps I've always used Waze anyway but seen a few big names on App Gallery like Tom Tom and Here we go, which I think used to be Nokia maps.

For Google Sheets I just use Microsoft Office off of AppGallery which includes Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
To replace Google Maps I've been using the new TomTom AmiGo app which is also on AppGallery.
And for YouTube - open it in your Huawei browser, click on the 3 dots in the top right hand corner and click 'Add To Homescreen.'
If you don't need to sign into YouTube you could just installed YouTube Vanced through Petal Search.

I've actually started to prefer YouTube Vanced over the actual YouTube app as Vanced allows you to play videod with the screen lock on. It's especially handy if you like listening to stuff on YouTube whilst driving.
For Google Maps, just download Google Maps apk. Works fine, you just can't login. Same goes for Google Chrome. For things like Google sheets, just open using Google Chrome and then add a shortcut to your home screen. You get an app icon and loads full screen. I did this for Google Photos.

I had no idea. Then that makes it a gazillion times better than the 'official' YouTube app.

That's quite a useful tip. I don't really need to sign in to Maps so it's good to know that it's still an option on the P40 series.

Question App Gallery and Watch Faces option missing

Hello everyone.
My wife ang I just bought the GT 3 watch (46 & 42 mm), we bought them in Mexico and we are using it in the US (we live close to the border) we are trying to install apps or watch faces but on either of the watches the app gallery and the watch face option is missing. I go to the Health app (from videos that I watched) and the options to change the faces or install apps aren't there, is it just because we are in the US we cannot use the app gallery? Images attached.
Phone: Oneplus 8 pro
Lastest health app

I had the same issue and finally managed to get access to the watch faces and apps. It was a somewhat involved process but not too difficult, not requiring a rooted phone or even developer options. See my description in the thread at https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/extra-watch-faces-for-the-gt3.4452459/. I hope it helps. (I used a OnePlus 8 Pro as well.)
