[Q] 4.3 Update + TWRP

So I have TWRP installed on my rooted Galaxy S3 (I535), and the 4.3 update just came out and was available to me.
I downloaded it, and tried to install it (I know that it will remove root), and when it finished downloading, it opened the TWRP boot menu.
Does anyone else who uses TWRP know how to install the new update? I couldn't find it and it wouldn't automatically install....

If your OK with the locked bootloder (no more twrp) that comes with 4.3 flash the Odin file. If you want to ota there are links some place on this forum to flash stock recovery

Well I don't plan on using a custom ROM, I was using just the stock ROM + root. How do I do this?

What way do you want to go Odin firmware will wipe internal sd card but it will be a nice clean install. Or ota after the stock recovery has been flashed through Odin but you might have weird bugs with ota... Might

I'd rather not wipe the internal SD card.. Isn't there just a way to install the update without all the hassle? I don't remember doing all this for rooting it... I'm fine with losing the root upon installing the new update as I can just root it again with safe root

Find the. Stock recovery download it and flash through Odin. there are ways to do it through terminal but odin is the fastest to explain. After that you should beable to ota and keep your setup as is. It is odd that you cant ota I had twrp when i took the ota.

Well it just directs me to TWRP, and I have no idea where to go from there. I don't care about ever having TWRP again and I don't care about having a locked bootstrap, as I only need stock with root.

Never mind I was on stock recovery I forgot I was recovering from a soft brick when I decided to give it a shot.

It goes to a screen with options such as Install, Wipe, Backup, Restore, etc....
I don't know where the ota is downloaded and thus cannot install it

You kind of only have 2 options now. Attempt a "dirty" flash of a ROM so you can save your internal SD files then odin or do the full Odin wipe and forget about keeping the files. Either way unless anyone else has a idea you lose your current setup.

I forgot the obvious. If you made a backup in twrp you can just recover with that.

So let me get this straight.
There's no way for me to install the update unless I flash to another ROM? I don't see why I can;t just update and lose odin and TWRP or whatever

OK I'll explain what I think went bad.when you downloaded the update it was expecting factory stock recovery to finish the install. Since you had twrp it failed. FYI Odin is a program on the PC to communicate with the phone in download mode (Odin mode). try to do a factory reset before you go crazy with my other suggestions. I have a feeling one of the 3 options I gave you are your only options.

I found the zip file while browsing TWRP. Can I just install it? It said it was a flash and that it may be incompatible

Yeah but you already soft bricked it. Any brick you do you should be able to fix. just so you know you backed yourself into a corner. No matter what you do you have a chance of bricking. Its all part of being a power user. If your uncomfortable with that after you are on 4.3 you might not want to root.

Yeah I know there's always the chance of bricking, just wanted to know if that specific thing would do it. I've been into rooting since my Droid 1, Droid 2, and Droid X. But I'm always cautious.
If I do a factory reset and back up all my data, will it get rid of odin and TWRP and everything? Then just install the 4.3 update and root using safe root? Would that work?

You would need to flash stock recovery completely replacing twrp. so if factory reset works and you can boot you should beable to flash stock recovery then redo the ota.

If you have backups of stuff on your internal sd it would be much faster to just Odin to 4.3 right now.

Is there a chance that doing a factory reset wouldn't flash it back? What else would I have to do? Sorry I haven't dealt with flashing since i had my droid x

Factory reset deals with the rom. So no it will stay twrp.

Using Odin is a lot like SBF'ing on the droid x (that was my last phone also). So if you can remember installing cyanogen mod 6 or 7 you probably always did a factory reset before first boot. Custom recovery stays intact the only way to get rid of it was to flash stock recovery with terminal emulator or sbf back to pure stock. Luckily Odin let's us flash the recover by its self so we have more options with Samsung.

How to uninstall twrp?

It's an lg g3 on lollipop. Basically I want to remove all root and custom recovery from my phone.By I don t want to lose all settings and data and hours of configuring the phone the way I like it. So don't tell me how to flash stock Rom back on phone. I know that. I want to remove twrp without messing anything up on phone. Is this possible.

Are you not able to reflash a stock bootloader. You can then unroot by using SuperSU in its settings page.

Does reflashing the boot loader reset and erase phone? If not how do I do it in detail please. I already unrooted super su. But still stuck with twrp.

Flashing a recovery doesn't wipe the phone. Just like if you flash cwm over twrp for example, your phone wouldn't wipe it'd just boot to cwm recovery instead of twrp. You'll need to search for your phones stock one.

On the Galaxy Note 4 I would flash a PDA file with the bootloader CSC etc that's all Stock. It would be a tar file and I would flash this using Odin. I believe this is only on Samsung though. Not sure how it is done for LG but I can imagine it's similar. You could attempt to flash everything stock using your computer I believe but I am not sure as this only applies to Samsung devices. But you get the idea, perhaps a Google search can further help you though! Hope this helped √

I'll have a look, but can't promise anything as I use an S4. I flash stock recovery via Odin on the PC or custom via cwm or twrp.

I can only find stock firmware. Unfortunately this will wipe your phone if you flash it.

Yeah I know it'll wipe it. Just thought in case you decided to fresh install. It doesn't take that long really to set back up even if you do go down that route.

Recovery for Galaxy S7 Edge SM-G935T T-Mobile

I have been trying to find a recovery for my phone that would allow me to to do nandroid backups without success.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

Hope for DirtyCow-based selinux hack for V20...

Hopefully I won't get slaughtered here, I'm used to using TWRP or CWM is it possible to make a backup using Flashfire? lets see the phone bricks since you won't be able to boot into recovery how can you restore from backup ( assuming your'e able to make one via Flashfire?

You do a backup with Flashfire.
If you "brick" then just boot up in Download mode, flash the appropriate firmware, let it boot, go back to download mode, flash the engineering kernel again, re-root, re-install Flashfire then restore your backup. Pretty easy. Not as simple as having a recovery though. It's just pretty time consuming but I've done it dozens of times.

Thanks for the reply, but bear with me a bit I'm a bit confused coming from only using TWRP. I have flash fire installed lets say I do the backup and I'm bricked for whatever reason the phone does not boot up properly the next step would be to get in download mode flash the firmware via Odin I assume? * I don't really understand the flash the engineering Kernel part here what does that actually entail? omitting that step lets say I do boot up normally. At this stage I'm pretty much stock and would root again download flash fire and somehow my backup would be preserved there and can just flash that back up?

lol you're right. Have you had any issues with apps crashing? my Facebook app keeps on crashing I clear data and even disable using Ti and reinstall a different apk works for a bit sometimes hours and then crashes again

That site is full of crap articles they steal from elsewhere and change a few lines of the articles. Take a lot of what they claim with a grain of salt.
The article you listed is meant for the Chinese 930 and 935, attempting it on an American 930/935 will result in a soft brick and loss of data.
I am on mobile, or I would link the original post from here on XDA stupdroid stole, stating clearly you cannot load it onto an American phone.

Flashing this rom updates the bootloader to a version that can communicate with the kernel to tell SafetyNet that it is unlocked, causing it to fail. Fret not, however, as there are two options to fix this:

OPTION 2: Flash this patch made by @bhb27: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120696423
Wipe cache and dalvik/art cache after either of these options.
NOTE that these options only fix failures due to SafetyNet checking the bootloader status. It will still fail due to root, xposed and the like. There are no known consequences or side effects to either of these options, so just pick whichever one you feel like.
If you notice weird things after you flash this rom (long boots other than the first one which is supposed to be long, random reboots, etc.) try flashing the stock recovery image and factory resetting.
If you want root, flash this version of SuperSU first, then flash whatever newer version you want: https://download.chainfire.eu/751/SuperSU/
If you have trouble flashing this, try TWRP Mod 3 instead of Mod 4.

I can confirm that it works on old bootloader.
I had SULT-49 5.1 installed before and I just flashed this via TWRP. I haven't taken the OTA. It works perfectly. Thank you.
PS: My bootloader now is moto-apq8084-70.95 (2016-06-29). Do you have same version after taking OTA?

It works w/o, but, IMO, better wipe, than not. You don't need extra bugs, right )

It's completing setup now, I did a wipe after I backed up my phone. It's unlocked and rooted before I flashed the zip

I don't. I don't know how I would get it since I need root access to get it, and I can't get root access without TWRP, and I have to overwrite the stock recovery to get TWRP.

I just tried using AP a few hours ago and it failed with the screen in the article. OTA with unlocked bootloader.

Pixel rooted with Supersu, TWRPd and using EX kernel.

You can install it via TWRP or FlashFire. You will have to probably redo EX and root afterwards. But I dont bother trying to shortcut it anymore. I use flashall with the -w removed, then reapply my mods. Its clean and easy.

It appears there is a timing issue with the pixel when entering TWRP. Also with restoring backup. I'm using RC1 on stock NOF26V Supersu and have Weta audio mod with EX kernel. My device is running smooth as butter. I have a backup with RC1 and would like to try other Roms but I'm afraid to test the restore function at this time in fear of messing it up. Any advice?

I've backed up and restored many times without any issues other than the first time when I backed up system, data and vendor. It all restored ok but it lead to huge battery drain once the phone was booted up. I'd get a bit more than 6 hours and the battery would be dead. To avoid that, backup system image, data image and vendor image. I've never had a problem with restores backing up those three.

No. Just boot to TWRP and restore the backup.

Is there any way to remove or replace the pixel bootloader warning screen?

Only if it is 100 percent stock, but don't. Lots of folks have bricked themselves trying. Don't do it unless it is the last thing you are doing before sending it back for warranty.

Does anyone know if I can activate the skipsoft toolkit from multiple computers with the pro ultimate activation code?

I just bought a new computer but the toolkit will not activate.
