Was wondering if FlashFire will Auto install OTA updates?
Auto update dont work on unlocked bootloader phone
Can I download update and flash it with FlashFire? I read XDA post someone did it with Nexus and FlashFire restored stock boot and recovery installed OTA zip then restored TWRP and boot.

Unlocked bootloader by itself won't stop the OTA.

You can install it via TWRP or FlashFire. You will have to probably redo EX and root afterwards. But I dont bother trying to shortcut it anymore. I use flashall with the -w removed, then reapply my mods. Its clean and easy.
It appears there is a timing issue with the pixel when entering TWRP. Also with restoring backup. I'm using RC1 on stock NOF26V Supersu and have Weta audio mod with EX kernel. My device is running smooth as butter. I have a backup with RC1 and would like to try other Roms but I'm afraid to test the restore function at this time in fear of messing it up. Any advice?

I've backed up and restored many times without any issues other than the first time when I backed up system, data and vendor. It all restored ok but it lead to huge battery drain once the phone was booted up. I'd get a bit more than 6 hours and the battery would be dead. To avoid that, backup system image, data image and vendor image. I've never had a problem with restores backing up those three.
Did you use RC1 or alpha?

No. Just boot to TWRP and restore the backup.
Just to make sure I'm on the same page. Restore system image, vendor image and data? That's it Right?

Am I able to relock pixel bootloader and unlock it after mods? I'm using the skipsoft tool.

Only if it is 100 percent stock, but don't. Lots of folks have bricked themselves trying. Don't do it unless it is the last thing you are doing before sending it back for warranty.

So I have TWRP installed on my rooted Galaxy S3 (I535), and the 4.3 update just came out and was available to me.
I downloaded it, and tried to install it (I know that it will remove root), and when it finished downloading, it opened the TWRP boot menu.
Does anyone else who uses TWRP know how to install the new update? I couldn't find it and it wouldn't automatically install....

You kind of only have 2 options now. Attempt a "dirty" flash of a ROM so you can save your internal SD files then odin or do the full Odin wipe and forget about keeping the files. Either way unless anyone else has a idea you lose your current setup.

OK I'll explain what I think went bad.when you downloaded the update it was expecting factory stock recovery to finish the install. Since you had twrp it failed. FYI Odin is a program on the PC to communicate with the phone in download mode (Odin mode). try to do a factory reset before you go crazy with my other suggestions. I have a feeling one of the 3 options I gave you are your only options.

Yeah but you already soft bricked it. Any brick you do you should be able to fix. just so you know you backed yourself into a corner. No matter what you do you have a chance of bricking. Its all part of being a power user. If your uncomfortable with that after you are on 4.3 you might not want to root.

Yeah I know there's always the chance of bricking, just wanted to know if that specific thing would do it. I've been into rooting since my Droid 1, Droid 2, and Droid X. But I'm always cautious.
If I do a factory reset and back up all my data, will it get rid of odin and TWRP and everything? Then just install the 4.3 update and root using safe root? Would that work?

---------- Post added at 05:45 PM ---------- Previous post was at 05:40 PM ----------
Using Odin is a lot like SBF'ing on the droid x (that was my last phone also). So if you can remember installing cyanogen mod 6 or 7 you probably always did a factory reset before first boot. Custom recovery stays intact the only way to get rid of it was to flash stock recovery with terminal emulator or sbf back to pure stock. Luckily Odin let's us flash the recover by its self so we have more options with Samsung.
I have been trying to find a recovery for my phone that would allow me to to do nandroid backups without success.
Can someone point me in the right direction?

You do a backup with Flashfire.
If you "brick" then just boot up in Download mode, flash the appropriate firmware, let it boot, go back to download mode, flash the engineering kernel again, re-root, re-install Flashfire then restore your backup. Pretty easy. Not as simple as having a recovery though. It's just pretty time consuming but I've done it dozens of times.

Thanks for the reply, but bear with me a bit I'm a bit confused coming from only using TWRP. I have flash fire installed lets say I do the backup and I'm bricked for whatever reason the phone does not boot up properly the next step would be to get in download mode flash the firmware via Odin I assume? * I don't really understand the flash the engineering Kernel part here what does that actually entail? omitting that step lets say I do boot up normally. At this stage I'm pretty much stock and would root again download flash fire and somehow my backup would be preserved there and can just flash that back up?
Again excuse my ignorance , and thanks for replying

That site is full of crap articles they steal from elsewhere and change a few lines of the articles. Take a lot of what they claim with a grain of salt.
The article you listed is meant for the Chinese 930 and 935, attempting it on an American 930/935 will result in a soft brick and loss of data.
I am on mobile, or I would link the original post from here on XDA stupdroid stole, stating clearly you cannot load it onto an American phone.

Flashfire is on the play store
Flash using TWRP. This will flash all files in the MCG24.251-5 update except for recovery.
New features in this update that I've noticed:
-Marshmallow, aged to perfection in Verizon's own servers. Only one major release version obsolete, and with outdated security patches!
-WiFi calling (woooooo! Those custom roms just got another carrier-specific, unportable feature to compete with)
-The command center widget has been replaced with the Droid Turbo 2 version
Get it here: https://mega.nz/#!G1xg1aYa!fm2hUL7hDDVaxTAj_iPbtY61P-8VrQEvoOJiVsDtdho
Here's the stock recovery image if you want it: https://mega.nz/#!r1wDQRCJ!KHbo_Q6L-WE_VyB1x8W4FbT6PrerPEyn9H1C6VUAyf8
Flashing this rom updates the bootloader to a version that can communicate with the kernel to tell SafetyNet that it is unlocked, causing it to fail. Fret not, however, as there are two options to fix this:
OPTION 1: Flash the SU4TL-49 bootloader using the following TWRP package: https://mega.nz/#!6logEaIQ!q8qPJw65Upt38Hxiu1JyxErmwbgL7CBzuGzzPC0C9pQ
OPTION 2: Flash this patch made by @bhb27: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120696423
Wipe cache and dalvik/art cache after either of these options.
NOTE that these options only fix failures due to SafetyNet checking the bootloader status. It will still fail due to root, xposed and the like. There are no known consequences or side effects to either of these options, so just pick whichever one you feel like.
If you notice weird things after you flash this rom (long boots other than the first one which is supposed to be long, random reboots, etc.) try flashing the stock recovery image and factory resetting.
If you want root, flash this version of SuperSU first, then flash whatever newer version you want: https://download.chainfire.eu/751/SuperSU/
If you have trouble flashing this, try TWRP Mod 3 instead of Mod 4.
Ouch, you have almost full flash inside archive, with bootloader too... Who is the most brave, introduce yourself ))
+ mirror
I can confirm that it works on old bootloader.
I had SULT-49 5.1 installed before and I just flashed this via TWRP. I haven't taken the OTA. It works perfectly. Thank you.
PS: My bootloader now is moto-apq8084-70.95 (2016-06-29). Do you have same version after taking OTA?

Unfortunately, this method using SuperSU will break your fingerprint/PIN protection.
If you want to try, simply flash the patched img over the stock img (in TWRP) and install SuperSU from the Play store.

There is full root. Here are the steps for the regular Mate 9
1) Download TWRP 3.0.2-2 from here and fastboot flash it:

Steps 2 and 3 can be merged, if using modified script changes.sh inside of superuser.zip.
Sure, flashing decrypted boot does not require clean stock boot, so we have right boot before installing superuser
But on other side there will be unexpected problems if we will use prepared boot.
I noticed that boot images are different by version. One has additional code to thermal sensors, other doesn't.
Hi also wanted to clarify that this boot image can be flashed on any regular mate 9 and any firmware. Or is it only for a specific version of mate 9 with the same firmware as the boot.img. Thanks for any advice

Hi just to update I followed the instructions by ajsmsp78 and gained full root and was able to install meefik busybox and also uninstall system apps which I couldn't do before. When I flashed the boot.img and superuser and booted up some of my apps were missing. I then flashed the public and hw zips for my region and most of them were back. I now have decrypted data and full root. Thanks a lot

There is full root. Here are the steps for the regular Mate 9
1) Download TWRP 3.0.2-2 from here and fastboot flash it:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=745425885120697579
2) Boot into TWRP (volume up+power) Go to Wipe, Format Data, then type in yes. Then reboot recovery.
3) Flash my decrypted boot.img from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=152685
4) Flash Superuser from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=817550096634746024
5) Boot up fully. Go into the Play Store and download PHH Superuser. Or you can download the newer beta here. Install it like any other apk:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=673368273298931027
6) Congratulations, you no longer are encrypted, twrp will see your internal storage and data properly and you have full root. Now do a backup of your current rom in TWRP.

did you tried to back up n restore in twrp?
If I flash that boot.img it will brick my phone, I've tried it and had to flash the original boot.img as of now I have the phh superuser root. The flash method I used was fastboot and yes, I have my bootloader unlocked. Been rooting android phones for 5 - 6 years
Do I really need to wipe the data partition? Will the fingerprint sensor remain working?

Yeah, you can. When you are formatting data, encryption is going off. Then need use modified boot to prevent encryption back.

Not really need. If you are interesting only root and writeable system, then don't format data.
Can't say anything about fingerprint sensor - I never used it.
I haven't tried backing up in twrp yet. Will do so later today. When I flashed the public and hw zips all my huawei apps came back but not the extra bloat like Facebook or todoist etc. Not to bothered as I don't need them. The only thing missing was the magazine lock wallpapers but I downloaded replacements from the theme app. All good now. Thanks

I also flashed that boot.img previously and bricked my phone. However this time it worked, the only thing I did different was to wipe data in twrp. Don't know if this made any difference but it worked

If you don't wipe data first to decrypt and then flssh the decrypted boot you'll probably end up in a bootloop. I'll have to make a decrypted boot thread with a few different boot images for those still on older systems (B112, B029 etc)
Thanks that would be great and very helpful to others

Someone state that one of the root methods broke the finger print scanner, does this method from @ajsmsg78 correct that issue? And is there any other side effects or "broke" items after the process?

Fingerprint works fine for me after rooting.
Have you tried android pay? TiBU works without issues? Any chance OTA updates could still work? Thanks.
For all models...?
Just to be clear; which model do you have? Would the boot.img work for all models? I have the AL00.

I don't use Android pay but the fingerprint scanner works fine so far for me after rooting. OTA should work fine but I need confirmation of it working by someone.

I have the MHA-L29C567 US version. I made a boot image thread you can go to for a link to the different boot images.

Are you saying that if you just flash superuser to gain root but do not decrypt, you can't do backups and restores with TiBU? And remove system apps? I was under the impression from another thread that decrypting was only necessary for TWRP data access, and would not prevent TiBU features from working.
deleted sorry wrong thread
I am trying to get my OP 7 Pro back to factory settings and was wondering will a factory reset do that ? I experimented with some kernels, different adb commands and my phone is acting up. I have magisk and TWRP installed and what would be the best way to go back to factory settings? I changed some system settings so I need to reset those to stock also.
My apps are working fine, should i back them up using TB and restore them or is it best to install them all from scratch ?
Search for fastboot flashable oos and run flash all.bat. You will have to flash in the bootloader mode.

No. Factory reset is a misnomer. All it does is wipe user data. The operating system remains the same (in your case modified). Only useful in cases where user data (such as an app) is causing problems.
I suppose in theory, at some point, there may have been a stock OS on one of the A/B partition slots. But depending on what you've subsequently flashing, that may not be the case anymore.

I agree with the previous post, to use the fastboot stock ROM.
General suggestion: For every new device I get, I consider it best practice to know how to restore to stock before messing with unlocking the bootloader, root, and other mods. And have the required files ready to go, for that matter.
It used to be, that I never did any phone mods without first making a TWRP backup of the stock ROM (which I can restore if anything went wrong). But it's so easy to flash stock images on OnePlus devices, I've mostly moved away from that thinking (as have others I've seen post to that effect).

Restore apps and app data using TB is what I usually do.

Fastboot rom will take u back to complete stock, unroot, and puts back stock recovery. the only thing that sticks is unlocked bootloader

Flashing this stock boot ROM will also remove TWRP, you'll get stock OnePlus recovery.
