This is a noobish question. We have a htc inspire 4G that's been stuck in a loop trying to update Adobe flash 10.3 and is using up data like crazy. There seems to be no way to stop it. Any suggestions?
Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling 10.2?

So you're saying that in market, you see that striped green progress bar indicating it's downloading/updating and it never seems to start doing anything/ finish?
If that's the case, I've solved that one by unchecking "update automatically," cancelling the download, back out a couple of screens, then to the apps page in market and push update.
That usually gets the download to actually start downloading, and finish.
I don't know if this will work in your situation. Please be as specific as possible when describing issues you are having. It makes troubleshooting much easier to do.
Thanks for your replies. We have tried uninstalling it, in both cases we get a progress bar that never ends. In the case of an uninstall it only allows us to uninstall the updates and says it is a system app as why.
It will not let us stop the download. We have tried stopping data connections and then uninstalling the updates, but to no avail. Even when the device is offline, the uninstall progress bar keeps going as if stuck in a loop just as happens with the install from market.
For the record, this is a completely unmodded device.
this happened to me also. i went to menu/settings/aplications/manage aplications/found the market app and then cleared cache and data. then opened app back up and proceded with the download. it worked for me

You'll need to stop the process on that screen first before you clear the cache. I've had to do this with several apps so it's a good workaround to be familiar with.
Thanks for the tips. This is what I did:
1. Put the device in airplane mode to stop the download.
2. Rebooted.
3. Went into settings/applications/manage applications and cleared the cache and data
4. Rebooted again
5. Returned to settings/applications/ manage applications and selected uninstall updates
Same result. It was stuck trying to uninstall.
Edit. Actually, it is worse than i thought. As a control i tried downloading an update from a different app after i stopped the Adobe flash update. - same result. Then i tried to download a random free app. - it won't download. Then i tried to uninstall an app. - it got stuck on the progress bar. So, the problem seems to be system wide.
Anyone ever heard of something like this?
Somehow I've managed to completely delete the google store app off my sony niro, with ICS. This means that i cant upgrade or install any apps from that site! Vodafone, my provider, have suggested that I back everything up and then do a factory reset which will nuke everything on the phone and leaving me to re-install everything afterwards. Ouch!
Can anyone suggest how i can get it back without doing the factory reset please? I cant install their 'PC Companion' software to do it with as I'm using Debian 7.
Thanks
Sharon.
Are you rooted with a custom recovery? Do you have a copy in Titanium Backup?
If not, rooting and either flashing it or pushing it somehow might work. I'm thinking like how you'd flash GAPPs normally with a new ROM.
I'm not sure about specifics for your phone, though.

If your rooted you can use this patched version, it works great for me.

Right, new google store app downloaded and installed, rebooted, cleared cache and all stored data and run it. It shows that i have 12+ updates to get, so i start downloading them and it crashes! Just says that 'google store has stopped'! Try again and the same thing happens, so I'll let it fully charge and take it off the charge cord and try again.
But its looking hopeful, thanks.
Sharon.
Full charge now done so I've had a chance to play with it. With all cache and data deleted, it still crashes before you get the little checkbox asking you to agree to googles term and conditions. It doesn't show in 'titanium backup' under 'google store' or 'play store', and neither does it show in 'ROM Toolbox Pro' of downloaded apps, installed apps, or backupped apps. Its as if it doesn't exist!
I'm now at a loss as to what to do next, any ideas please?
Hopefully thanks
Sharon.
If you are on a custom ROM, you could try flashing the applicable Gapps package, as stated above....if not then I'm thinking the factory reset would be next step, as much as a pain that it is.
Just backup and reset

Moto G 16GB, bought off Amazon.co.uk. Rooted and flashed 4.4.2 before it was pushed to the device (I think it was an image off US version, found it in these forums back when I got the phone). I've been getting a prompt to install some Motorola US update for a few weeks, it pops up every now and then, has gone away when I tapped "No, thanks" option. All was fine until this morning...this is a really weird problem.
I don't know if the phone updated itself overnight, but when I dismissed the alarm this morning I couldn't get past the lockscreen. I put in my lock code and the phone had the stock wallpaper, then cycled to black background, then back to stock wallpaper and then I got a pop up saying "Unfortunately, the process com.android.systemui has stopped." and I was bumped back to the PIN lockscreen. Tried again, same thing. Now it doesn't even say anything about androidui, just cycles between black background and stock wallpaper and kicks me out.
Tried hooking it up to a PC and Mac, but neither recognized it and the phone appeared to be just charging. Power cycled it a dozen times by holding down the power button for about 6 seconds and I always end up with the same problem of not getting past the lockscreen. Every time I boot the phone now it says "Android is upgrading... Optimizing app 1 of 1". This is why I thought maybe I was pushed some incompatible US update?
Underneath it all the phone works fine, got the alarm this morning, received an SMS, answered a phone call. I can even get to the camera from the lockscreen. Is there any other options besides complete wipe and starting from the beginning again?
Probably OT, but I've always had trouble with the launcher quitting, no matter what launcher I'm using, on Moto G and the previous GNex.
Any help is appreciated, I'm bummed.
Hi,
i've today the same, exactly the same problem. It's strange, because i can't reset my phone to factory default, i went to the recovery menu, then "factory", but it only rebooted...
My "solution":
I reinstalled the original firmware:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2542219
Then all works fine.. No matter why this error occurs.. an automatic firmware update? ..i don't know...
the exact same thing happened to me today out of nowhere and i'm about to leave on a trip, i'm so angry!
Jeez...well, looks like I'm not the only one. WTF happened? I left on a weekend trip too and I'm P.O.'d. I haven't been too religious with my backups either, that's why I was trying to find a way to back things up before wiping it all, but it looks like I'm out of luck. Guess a full wipe is in order.
hmmm i'm a complete dufus when it requires ADB, i've followed the procedures at the link but everytime i try to enter an input cmd says "mfastboot is not a recognized command"

Take a look:
c) If the firmware file you downloaded is a .xml.zip file then download Motorola Fastboot mfastboot-v2.zip (attached to this post) and extract the .exe into the same folder as the stock firmware files (the same folder as the .bin and .img files). If your firmware is a .tar.gz file then skip this step.
I'm debating if I should go ahead and restore the firmware OR wait for Motorola to right their wrongs!

I... did that, but obviously not the correct way, i'm downloading the files on my note and will try again. Maybe I should unpack the firmware files at some specific place? The instructions said nothing about this so I did nothing.

Just reminded me that my phone is still within warranty, doing this restore may void it?

Guess this is the only way out of this, then. What a mystery... I wonder if this is the "Welcome to Lenovo" update 1.0 lol.
i'm getting a "missing AdbWinApi.dll" although i've installed all the applications required, any help?
edit: guess i also need the android sdk, right?
edit2: got it, just copy the dlls from the minimal adb directory into the firmware directory and it's good to go, just configuring my newly restored device, thanks all
I wonder why this happened? I was using google play store at the moment, updating the flipboard app...

I guess It's the problem of flipboard app!
My father's phone is also experiencing this issue, I can't even reset the phone to factory settings.
This occurred when I was also updating the flipboard app... seriously I'll have to RMA this...
----------------------
So I also have an issue where when you unlock the screen, it just locks back up (no android dialogue saying that com.android.systemui has crashed, but the same result).
I'm also unable to go into bootloader -> Recovery to factory reset the phone.
I stupidly tried to uninstall the flipboard app and reinstall it and it killed the phone... it's now stuck and quite annoying.
I'm 99% sure it's Flipboard.
Looks like others are having issues with Flipboard too
http://forums.androidcentral.com/moto-g/391289-something-seriously-wrong-my-moto-g.html
----------------
I solved the issue by following the instructions here:
https://motorola-global-portal.custhelp.com/app/answers/prod_answer_detail/a_id/97329/p/30,6720,9050
how could a flipboard update screw android so badly? what a strange day
edit: they seemed to have pulled the update back or fixed it though, during my restore flipboard installed without issues
Holy S*** I'm in the same situation. It's definitely the Flipboard update that caused everything. Support just acknowledged me but never gave me any solution. I'm running ART and I think that was contributing the problem. It's terrifying knowing how a single app can completely ruin your phone!!
Anyway guys, is there anyway I can save my pics and stuff before I wipe my data?
Good detective work, I now remember updating the Flipboard app w/ bunch of others as well when things were still all good. Could this be remedied if Flipboard would manage to push a working update? I really don't wanna wipe everything, and I'm not sure I can.
Word from Flipboard (via Twitter):
"Flipboard does not support the experimental OS ART at this time."
I made a silly mistake. Using App Quarantine i deactivated a system app.
Now my Phone is stuck at the Motorola Logo.
Any idea how i can activate deactivated APKs at this point?
I would like to avoid a Stock reflash if possible else i will loose Data.

As far as I know isn't possible to push a file inside the system partition of the phone, unless you use ADB, but to use ADB you need to have the usb debugging enabled... try this, hope it helps.

I have faced same problem many times .
follow this thread :- http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2700502
Do Not Paste these two lines in 4.2 section
(mfastboot.exe erase cache
mfastboot.exe erase userdata)
Your data will not be lost and phone will be normal
Whatever i did to enable/unblocking this app, its keep showing that app is block/hidden so the update will failed.
Using adb method pointing out that permission denial..looks like that app comes from different package..
Using root image to unblock by debloater than flash stock image, when plugin usb those apps still shown as block..
GCUV.apk and SetupWizard.apk..
I guess this is the reason why some of us are failing in updates their fw..
Did you ever get this figured out?

You have to flash back the old image fw and try debloating tools from there...then double check if its still exist or not...
Mine somehow works with repeat every step that i make within old fw and also need root.
the problem is its unfreeze but not unblock.

Thanks, I'll give it a try and cross my fingers.
@dannygoround
So I have made a back up of the LGsetup wizard with titanium back up and it seems to unblock itself using debloater. However, I'm still having trouble unblocking that persistent GCUV file.... i was thinking of using debloater to remove it ( as it creates a back up) then restore it but I have no clue what it would do when I do delete it.
The option I'm trying right now is:
1. download the OTA
2. use debloater to unblock EVERYTHING( dont need to be rooted)
3. quickly accept the OTA
4.hope the restart doesnt activate the GCUV to block again ... T.T this is all wishful thinking because I rather do plan b
(delete GCUV and restore it )
got them to unblock
Successfully got the two apps to unblock
-while rooted use titanium back up and debloatr to unfreeze and back up gcuv
-force stop app using TB, then run it using TB
-reset phone and check with debloater (unblock anything during this time as well. If you unblock anything always follow up with a reboot to make sure it's blocked
-when all apps are unblocked (and stay that way ) proceed to unroot with supers
-restart, check with debloat again.
(an app called phone.acvy or something turned up so I unblocked that)
-factory reset your phone and check with debloatter again (I was paranoid you see...)
If everything is fine go ahead and flash the stock img using the LER replacing stock img with root
-check debloater if anything still persist unblock the he'll out of it and reboot
And that's what I did!!!
Always reboot to see if anything persists and devloater to check
I haven't tried to update yet because well it's 8 am and I'm at a horse show that ends at 6pm soo I'll keep you guys updated

I got another error
the update failed and after booting up and checking with debloater it showed that
"lg set up" has blocked it self again
Kinda stuck from this point on .
I guess I can redo everything, but I really don't know what "GCUV" is why its so persistent, how lgsetup is connected with it.
I am a very noobish person one this xD im kinda just doing everything i can do with trial and error
