HTC Inspire stuck in update loop - HTC Inspire 4G

This is a noobish question. We have a htc inspire 4G that's been stuck in a loop trying to update Adobe flash 10.3 and is using up data like crazy. There seems to be no way to stop it. Any suggestions?

Have you tried uninstalling it then reinstalling 10.2?

So you're saying that in market, you see that striped green progress bar indicating it's downloading/updating and it never seems to start doing anything/ finish?
If that's the case, I've solved that one by unchecking "update automatically," cancelling the download, back out a couple of screens, then to the apps page in market and push update.
That usually gets the download to actually start downloading, and finish.
I don't know if this will work in your situation. Please be as specific as possible when describing issues you are having. It makes troubleshooting much easier to do.

Thanks for your replies. We have tried uninstalling it, in both cases we get a progress bar that never ends. In the case of an uninstall it only allows us to uninstall the updates and says it is a system app as why.
It will not let us stop the download. We have tried stopping data connections and then uninstalling the updates, but to no avail. Even when the device is offline, the uninstall progress bar keeps going as if stuck in a loop just as happens with the install from market.
For the record, this is a completely unmodded device.

this happened to me also. i went to menu/settings/aplications/manage aplications/found the market app and then cleared cache and data. then opened app back up and proceded with the download. it worked for me

You'll need to stop the process on that screen first before you clear the cache. I've had to do this with several apps so it's a good workaround to be familiar with.

Thanks for the tips. This is what I did:
1. Put the device in airplane mode to stop the download.
2. Rebooted.
3. Went into settings/applications/manage applications and cleared the cache and data
4. Rebooted again
5. Returned to settings/applications/ manage applications and selected uninstall updates
Same result. It was stuck trying to uninstall.
Edit. Actually, it is worse than i thought. As a control i tried downloading an update from a different app after i stopped the Adobe flash update. - same result. Then i tried to download a random free app. - it won't download. Then i tried to uninstall an app. - it got stuck on the progress bar. So, the problem seems to be system wide.
Anyone ever heard of something like this?

Market won't download apps

Any app(paid or free) won't go past the "Download Starting..." Status. It has been driving me crazy for hours now. I've restored the phone with the latest RUU 3 Times now, I've tried the stock rom, modaco, and TTG. Its a Google Phone w/ Recovery 1.5.2. I'm getting annoyed with the phone and I'm about to through it out, It has been working nearly perfect(random slow downs and crashes) until today.
i had the same problem
i had to do a total wipe of the phone to get it back to normal
I flashed it with the RUU? Isn't that the way to "fully" wipe it?
Same here. I did ruu then flashed fresh 1.1 and gumbo kernel. All my apps were in my downloads but they wouldn't download to the phone. Stayed stuck at application downloading. Did a nandroid backup and that fixed it.
I completely wiped everything, with these commands:
Code:
wipe /
wipe -data
wipe /data
wipe -all
I don't know which commands worked for doing what but I couldn't even boot into android or recovery.
Um..
Its a market wide issue... No reset is gonna help.. It was just circumstance that you thought that...
I'm a Sprint Tech, and it has been brought to my attention all day, whether you have a Hero or a Moment, its sporadic outages.
Did you use a task manager or anything that disables apps on start-up?
I had that problem until I figured out disabling Google Talk from start-up gave me that problem. Opening Google Talk, magically fixed the problem for me. May or may not be the case for you, but something to think about.

That sucks, the day I choose to reflash the market is down. Oh well. Anyone know how to do a FULL Wipe or were my commands right?
Need to open google talk and sign in.
That fixed it for me, and a few of my friends!
I experienced this problem, and found that A2SD is the cause.
Not sure if you're using it nor not.
Try this LINK HERE
Read post #37 by me and try it this should fix the issue without doing a wipe
I've fixed the issue, I had to boot into fastboot and manually delete everything on the phone(directory "/") and used the latest RUU. I manually rooted the phone and installed the 1.5.2 Recovery. I did a factory reset, deleted dalvik-cache and boot-cache and installed a custom rom. I couldn't get service but a reboot fixed it. I have 150mb free space on my phone and market works without problems.

Sound like your problem wasn't just a market problem.
All you actually had to do was change your Gmail password. The phone will then force you back through the Google account sign-in process. This fixes most Gmail syncing issues and Market download issues.

[Q] Market Apps wont download

I am using Coredroid V7.
When I am trying to download apps from the official app market, it doesnt download.
it says downloading then just clears itself out. i try it again it doesnt download it.
i even did a full wipe(1.5 and coredroid wipe) then freshly flashed the rom again, then it doesnt download again.
because of that i even had to RE-root my phone..well that didnt fix it as well..
it worked completely fine in 6.7. can anyone help me whats wrong with it? i even resetted my phone..nothing worked...
im trying to download miren browser..
Wow hmm I had this before. Are you setting up any accounts after flashing? What I mean is once you flash and get to set up tutorial, when it asks about setting up accounts,so u log into Facebook or Google right then?
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
Well, after the extensive wiping/rerooting/reflashing/reseting you've done, to no avail, maybe it's just the market acting up.
I've run into similar download issues both stock/unrooted and custom/rooted, from time to time. It's usually that stuck progress bar that never seems to move and never finishes, almost always when trying download something that's set to update automatically.
I've also run into specific downloads not kicking in, as you're describing. It usually clears itself up if I just wait a little while and try again.
Not a very specific solution to your problem, but all I'm saying is that after all you've done to "reset," that should have taken care of the problem, if the problem was indeed on your end.
FWIW.

Do a Search for Full Wipe, there is something you can run that just cleans yer device completely. I would try that. Else; I am unsure.
Settings->Applications->Market-> Clear Data/Cache ???
Worked for me =(
It's just a sporadic issue with the Android Market. I have encountered this very same problem and thought it was the rom but never did any reflashing or wiping data/cache but then I would go try to download an app and it would successfully download and install. I think it's an issue with the android market.

Just fyi, I flashed v7 tonight, and installed several apps after the fact, so I can at least assure you that it's but the ROM.
Sent from the computer I carry in my pocket.
Solution kinda
I was having the same problem tried all sorts of wipes to no avail ended up just downloading and installing new cooler looking app market thinking it would solve my problem but it didn't just gave me an error message to go along with it.....so the solution u say......annoyingly simple really reboot into recovery after installing new market clear cache and dalvik cache too just to be sure.
confirmed working as of 5 minutes ago.
with new market
on virtuous unity rom (but I don't see a reason it shouldn't work on most roms with weird market bug)

[Q] i727 showing download continuously

I am currently running Cyanogenmod 10.1-20130304-EXPERIMENTAL-skyrocket-M2.
I had a botched update through the internal cm updater, where I lost signal and cancelled the update. After this it continuously shows a download in progress (in the taskbar)-even though there is nothing downloading. I then re downloaded the update and loaded it through clockwork recovery. Even when I reboot the phone, clear cache, etc it keeps showing downloads in progress.Using ZDbox It doesn't show any download task to kill. If I click on the download icon in the taskbar it brings me to the cm updater screen, but nothing shows to be in progress. I haven't tried full factory reset/ wipe cache, etc yet- but was wondering if anyone had any other suggestions to try first? Everything else seems to be working...
Thanks for any suggestions! - Ihab

[Q] Play Store crashes when updating multiple apps

Hi, I have a Nexus 5, completely stock 4.4.2, never tampered
Whenever there are multiple updates in the Play Store and I press "Update", the first app updates, then the second one starts downloading,
but the download hangs at some point, then after a few seconds the entire Play Store app closes without any message.
After that I can open the Play Store again and try to update the apps, but they only update one at a time, because on the second update it always crashes.
All the Google apps are at the latest versions, Play Store has version 4.6.17. This is happening for a while now, but I can't pinpoint it to a certain version of the Play Store app, but in the past I did not have this problem.
I've tried restarting the device, clearing data and cache for the Play Store app, clearing the cached data for the entire system, even switching the runtime (btw the problem is happening on both Dalvik and ART), but nothing helped. I also have enough Available space: 4 GB as reported in Settings/Storage.
On my wife's Nexus 4, also completely stock and with updated Google apps, the problem it's not happening, so it's not something in my environment.
Did anyone else have this problem? I searched the forums but found nothing relevant.
Any advice?
Thank you.
Hello,
Clear Playstore's app data and cache and reconnect your google account as see whether the problem persists?
Already did that, I said in my post, did not help.
Can anyone provide any advice? Thanks.

Hi
I have the exact same problem on my galaxy note 3 so nothing to add except that I tried a little trick that allows it to finish the updates without having to restart the store. I close it immediately after the batch download starts and then it continues updating in the background. it works most of the times but not always. I really wish someone had a solution to this problem.

Yes, I cleared cache and Dalvik from custom recovery. I did a lot of searching on google and XDA and I followed all the guides, including uninstalling play store updates, clear data and cache from apps manager for play store and also Google services framework and download manager but no improvement
Im in the same boat as you on this one.

Are you rooted? What custom recovery are you using? I myself am all stock, never rooted or anything.
And how long does it take to clear the cache from recovery? On my Nexus 5 with stock recovery it takes very long, around 5 or 10 minutes the first time I do it in succession, but it finishes succesfully. If I repeat the clearing of cache without rebooting then it takes a few seconds, like normal.
I read somewhere that it might be an issue with errors on the cache partition and that reformatting this partition might solve it, but I cannot do it from the stock recovery. Maybe if you have the option of reformatting the /cache partition in your custom recovery you should try it.
Another thing that you can do is try to catch the errors with logcat, if you have root you can use an app, I used adb to save a logcat and found some error messages related to the installing of apps but could not find how to solve them. I will post the logcat later.
If you can get a logcat maybe you can post it and we will compare the errors.

Yes I am rooted using CWM Based Recovery 6.0.4.7 with SuperSU 1.94 and BusyBox 1.22.1-Stericson on stock Samsung firmware Android 4.4.2 NB4 unbranded
clearing the cache from CWM recovery only takes a few seconds in my case. I did not try reformatting or anything else because I don't want to risk bricking it.
I will post a logcat as soon as I know how to do it.

I have the same issue. Stock rooted...
I don't have a nexus but I was using a google edition ported ROM for my HTC One and was having the same issue drive me nuts. I flashed the stock sense ROM back and the store works fine now. It seems like this problem is google edition devices/OS. I never found a fix though, except to enable automatic updating so it happens in the background. That worked for me
indeed the updates work fine in the background but I would really like to know what causes this issue
Those having this problem can you guys make sure you have the latest Google Play build? Latest is 4.8.20. Go to your play store, go to play store settings and at the bottom it should say 4.8.20. If your version is earlier than that, tap the build version and it should say there's a newer version and that it's installing. At that point, exit from the play store app, and give it a minute or two. Enter back into the play store app, and you repeat the steps to see that you have upgraded your play store build.
Sent using Etch-a-Sketch
Yes, the Play Store app is updated to the latest version. Now I already got the 4.4.3 update, but the issue is still appearing, but not everytime. I think it depends on the sizes of the updating apps, it might be something related to the cache partition. Can you guys try and clear the cache from the recovery and see how much it lasts? For me it lasts more than 5 minutes and it doesn't seem normal.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using XDA Free mobile app
I had the same issue on my S4. After the play store closed about 5 times today when updating apps I decided to Google it. I found someone with a similar issue, and their fix was to enable the Download Manager app, that had somehow been disabled. Mine was already enabled, but I cleared the cache from that app, and then I was able to update my remaining 5 or so apps with no crashes.
I'm not sure how permanent of a fix it is, but it's working so far. Don't know if I'll have to clear it again later or not.

[Q] Apps Stuck "Downloading"

Two days ago I decided to switch from cm12 nightlies to cm12s.
After performing a clean flash I was very pleased to see that I even had the option to restore the apps I had installed before. However, when trying to install those apps I encountered a problem. Because the apps would not download. They would say "Downloading"but it woult get stuck forever.
I had never experienced such problem before but so I thought it was the cm12s flash. So, I flashed back to the latest cm12 nightly I still had on my OPO with the hope that the problem would have vanished. Unfortunately it didn't.
MY PROBLEM:
When I try to install apps from the play store they get stuck in an endless loop of "downloading".
What I tried so far:
flashing back to a normal cm12 nightly
flashing cm11s and after that upgrading to cm12s (in cm11s the problem also persists, same for SOKP-rom to see if it would also persist in a different rom)
rebooting with and without superSU after flashing OS.
entirely wiping my phone (cache, dalvik cache, system, data) and flashing cm12/s
after the step above^, deleting the data and/or cache from "Google Play Services", "Google play Store", "Google Play Framework" (and if possible deleting updates so it goes back to factory app)
changing location settings
deleting google account and re adding it.
clearing Cache and Dalvik Cache multiple times
using the 1-Click installer from their forum
Tried to find the android_secure folder but could not find it. (even with hidden files disabled in windows)
Perhaps even more but I can't quite remember much more...
I experienced after flashing a new os multiple times that the problem is not really the play store and/or the apps in it. But I believe the problem is more with the "Google Play Services" because most of the apps I can update perfectly fine but the "Google Play Services" continuously refuse to update and get stuck at "downloading". Unfortunately that app is needed to be able to use e.g "Gmail".
Hopefully there are more people on this forum who have experienced this problem before and know how to fix it.
Got the same crap... It's been 2 days now with the Store stuck on downloading.
I have all the latest updates, Store, Services etc.
Also tried to disable the security section like Enterprise.

I didn't get it working again, so I removed all data and reinstalled the rooted firmware for my device and just did a backup with the mybackup pro.
Somehow there was something with the system or the data, but it works now.
