Hello. I'm used to HTC phones, but thought I would try a Sony as a spare. Xperia XA2 Ultra due to arrive tomorrow.
I assume it will come with worldwide android pie as standard (or if its running oreo, I can update with OTA).
How do I make a full back up of stock images incase I need to revert firmware for warranty, or I soft brick trying to root?
Thanks.

[Q] rooted>unlocked bootloader>installed Custom Rom> back to original rom>guarantee?
I bought the sony xperia Z a year ago. I didnot like the Sony version of android so I rooted the phone, unlocked the bootloader and installed AOKP and afterwards cyanogenmod. After one year I thought of moving back to sony's android version and installed it with sony flash tool. Now my Smartphone's bootloader is locked and it is not rooted.
Now I have speaker problem with my phone. I had the guarantee for 2 years, so I still have time. But will I still get the guarantee and get repaired for free.
Well the bootloader is relocked and its unroofed and has a pure stock firmware so it should be repairable. Just send it in and see where it goes.
All the best

Nope, your guarantee is broken.
Today I got my mobile back. They send back my mobile back. They said my guarantee is broken because I donot have original android ROM installed. I used the flashtool to install the original Android but they knew it, I did something with my mobile. :crying:

Well that's what you call bad luck, Anyway can you still retry to send it back? Or did the register all the devices sended to them.
First : Is your bootloader locked again? and did you fully unroot it instead of temp unroot?
Second : Is it the stock rom and not a rom that looks like a stock rom? Like a tweaked one.

First: yes bootloader is locked and the phone is unrooted.
Second: It is a stock ROM. I used the Flash tool from sony. I was even able to install the update from update manager from sony to android 4.3
Does the xperia Z have a flash counter? That could be what tipped them off.

Yeah you are right. May be there is the Flash counter, But I am not sure.
I want to sell my phone, a D850, that I've had for just under a year. I've unlocked it so it will work outside of AT&T. The question now is: can I unroot back to stock but with Lollipop instead of KitKat? Alternatively, can I update my G3 with an OTA update.zip file after going back to KitKat? Is there any way to do this manually without having to rely on the actual OTA update coming down (because my phone for some reason just absolutely refuses to update by itself)?
Any help would be appreciated.
Okay, so I recently bought a used Moto G LTE, seller said it would be on Lollipop 5.1. When I received it, it had been rolled back to 4.4.4. Hence the screen ripple at every boot up (which persists until the phone is locked and then unlocked) that almost gave me a heart attack the first time. A little googling later I learn this happens because while you can downgrade android the upgraded version's bootloader remains. So last night I finally got around to rooting since I just can't go from a rooted phone to living with a non rooted one, feels like my phone has a noose around it. Anyway I wanted to know if it's safe to flash CM on my phone now or should I reupgrade to 5.1 first? And if I should is there a way to get it to update OTA again? If not any suggestions where to find the firmware? I just want to feel free to flash roms without bricking my phone. Hi.
In my xt1040, i can flash CM 12 lollipop or a stock rom based from kitkat 4.4.4 without problems (I have a updated bootloader), to get OTA updates again, its necessary flash the stock rom (KK or LP), without root, PURE stock (with all "bloatware").
Now im using a optimized rom from:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/moto-g/4g-development/rom-stock-motorola-4g-lollipop-rom-t3142816
No bugs, amazing battery life, and a pure stock, no "bloatware", great ram management.
Sorry for bad english.

You'll have to wipe the system anyway, updating it will be a waste of time...
I'm in Vietnam and bought a Sony XZ, Model Number F8332, on Android 7.0, Baseband 8996-8996.genprodQ-00040-19.
Kernal version; 3.18.31-v01, [email protected]@(hastag)1. Build number RomAur v4.3.
My questions are,
1, can I revert it back to it's original software?( are any warrantys affected?)
2, when I connect it to my laptop and sync to sony's Xperia Companion software, it asks to update to new software, can I go ahead and update or will it mess up?
Anything more than some basic instructions would be way over my head.
Thanks for any help.
You can flash Stock Rom with Flashtool. If you search here, you will find more than enough informations
Your warranty is now gone.
Also, unless you have the TA backup from that specific device you will not be able to restore the TA and therefore you will lose functionality of camera and other DRM issues.
The best advice is to stay on the ROM you have or flash other custom ROMs that enable you to use the DRM fix. This is not possible on a stock ROM.
Also, since the bootloader has been unlocked you will not be able to update OTA or use xperia companion software.
I must admit that i didn't think about finding a way to backup the stock firmware before installing the customized noba version.
Noba seems to be ok so far, but it sucks that i don't have the option to go back to bone stock ever, because i couldn't find the firmware on xperifirm corresponding to the phone originally. (looking at the SI number on the box which is 1299-9003.)
I thought it would be listed there but i looked for it after changed the firmware on the phone (all stock, dont care for root/3rd party roms.)
By that time it was kinda late.
So,is it possible to go back to bone stock by fooling xperia companion to install specific firmware? Just curious.
Interested in that as well. Using Lineage OS 14.1 right now. Would like to return to stock experience.
Flash rom with flashtool and bl locked. This that easy
