Mine is carrier locked from Sprint so OEM Unlock is greyed out. Is calling Sprint and asking nicely once I pay off the phone my only option?

carrier locked phone

My moto G 3rd generation is currently locked by my carrier. Have 3 more months until they will give me the unlock code. My question is, if I root and install custom rom, does that have anything to do with the carrier network locking? Will installing a Custom rom do away with the lock allowing me to change carrier's. Should I just wait until the phone has been carrier unlocked. Thanks!

They have nothing to do with each other.

Thanks. BTW I have received my unlock bootloader code from moto. In their instructions to unlock with the code, it doesn't mention having to go into developer mode and check off allow oem unlock. I read other forum post saying you have to do this.
Looking for advice. What is this option for?
Thanks!

You do have to do this... I do not know why it isn't in the instructions anywhere, it should be.

If you mean sim unlock, all I did was call and ask for the unlock code,as long as your account is in good standing, shouldn't be an issue.

I sent them a text msg asking for it. 3 days later arrived in my email
Unlocking Xfinity S8+
Your post says they gave you the code in response to a text. Did you already have the OEM unlock opition visible in dev options? I don't even have the prompt... I wiped cache part and did factory reset, as someone suggested, but it did not appear after that (contrary to what this person said they'd experienced). So, did you unlock with some specific dial code? or did your settings>dev options have an OEM unlock prompt?

You have confused SIM (carrier) unlock with bootloader unlock. You can not unlock the bootloader on any US (snapdragon) version of the S8 and S8+.
On the other hand, you can SIM unlock with the code that Xfinity Mobile gave you. Turn off the phone, and replace the XM SIM with one from a different carrier. Boot the phone, and your device will ask for SIM unlock code.

Hi, and about the z3x Samsung tool, is possible to unlock with that program?
I know its more complicated, i have been searching and reading and found that.
I try a unlock code without success, now ask me the puk code , and the company refund my money.
And now what's my chances to unlock it?

I'm not familiar with the Z3X tool. If you're trying to carrier/SIM unlock your device, your best and possibly only option is to get your carrier to unlock it.
If you are trying to unlock your bootloader, it's not possible.

I think Xfinity is CDMA, so this is the only viable option you have.

Willing to Pay for bootloader unlock, if possible.

I was under the impression the device I ordered off ebay could be bootloader unlocked (apparently verizon pixel 3a), but can't seem to figure it out myself, and i'm starting to think its not possible. If anyone can unlock the bootloader, I am willing to pay.. If not.. :RIP: :crying: Hopefully this doesn't violate the rules, didn't see any.
Unlocking the bootloader on Pixel phones is pretty easy. You can use the guide here to unlock the bootloader.
You will need to use ADB. If you are not familiar with ADB, you can use the guide found here.
I'm assuming that you want to unlock the bootloader so that you can root your Pixel. I used this guide.
I reread your post and noticed that you bought a Pixel that is carrier locked to Verizon. Usually, unlocking the bootloader of a Verizon phone is either not possible or difficult. The information that I gave you is for carrier unlocked Pixels. I haven't had a carrier locked phone in many years so my memory of what is possible is probably a bit fuzzy.

The phone is not carrier locked, but it was a verizon phone previously. Thanks for the links, and basically my problem I run into is the Greyed out unlock option in developer settings.
Have you tried doing a factory reset and then allow the phone to update over wi-fi?

Remove the sim card, do a factory reset, and then go through the setup without the SIM installed. This should allow the OEM unlock to be toggled. Its worked for multiple other people.
Did you switch from Verizon to Tmobile? It appears from what I'm reading that TMO sims are downloading carrier specific settings/options which block the unlock switch.
Regardless of whether you use tmobile or not, the above method *should* allow you to unlock.

Unlock on tmobile?

Can someone explain whether process I go through on tmobile to unlock the bootloader? With the oneplus 8, I had to have 3 months paid off first and from there I could get the unlock code. Is it the same with note?
Thanks
I would also like to know that.
Hopefully someone can enlighten us on that
That was years ago particular with one plus, they don't have a say anymore with these phones.
You have to pay to get it unofficially unlocked.
Search the forums, I don't know if we're allowed to post pay for unlock link even if theyre on xda.
Also, if your phone is still sim locked and you unlock the bootloader, it will remain sim locked. Only T-Mobile can sim unlock it and if you do sim unlock after you unlock your bootloader, it will relock your bootloader and it's stuck as locked forever.
So I'd sim unlock your phone before paying to bootloader unlocking it.

Thanks coilbio,
That was helpful and appreciated.!
can you please clarify what do u mean by unlock?
If you need to unlock ur phone(network unlock) so that it can be used on any network then u can contact Tmobile to unlock your phone. You can contact Tforce on twitter to get ur phone unlocked. I was able to do that thro them.

Question OnePlus 9 T-Mobile sim unlock with unlocked bootloader

I have a OnePlus 9 T-Mobile (LE2117). I got the bootloader unlock code from the OnePlus and was able to unlock the bootloader (fastboot oem unlock).
The phone was bought from T-Mobile and it is not paid off. In the Settings > About device > Network Unlock settings it says that it is locked and it is not eligible for neither permanent unlock nor temporary unlock. The temporary unlock is not available, because it was already applied for 5 times during this year.
I am outside of USA and I do not have a T-Mobile sim-card.
Does anyone know whether it is possible to unlock the network, if the bootloader is already unlocked?
PS: I searched here and I saw people saying that it is possible to unlock bootloader only after unlocking sim (network), but my request to OnePlus for unlocking bootloader was approved and I got the unlock code file (unlock_code.bin).

A few months ago I ran the gamut for exactly this because a neighbor bought a T-Mobile version of a device off a local classifieds site thinking he'd unlock it and put a custom ROM on it. Turns out dude who sold it to him over the internet hadn't finished paying the thing off before dumping it and abandoning his contract; had to twist the arm of my corporate account rep and get upset with some of the upper echelon of T-Mobile to be told that.
As you're finding out, carriers don't take kindly to people trying to alter the software on devices they don't own yet (I.E. are still paying for).
As such, carrier unlock and OEM unlock are two different things; temporary unlock and full unlock are different kinds of carrier unlock, and AFAIK OEM unlock won't be enabled in Developer Options unless you've performed a full carrier unlock (so color me surprised at your situation), which you won't be eligible for (and T-Mobile won't release) until the phone is paid off free-and-clear in their system, up to and including any past-due balances on accounts the device may have been a part of, as well as having to meet additional criteria you can check in their policy here.
If you are successful in this endeavor, keep in mind that T-Mobile will be within their rights to demand payment in-full for the remainder of the balance of the device the moment they realize it's been tampered with.
EDIT: I found this, may be helpful. In the first post they say someone came up with an MSM package that doesn't require SIM/carrier unlocking: https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/convert-t-mobile-oneplus-9-to-global-or-other-firmware.4277169/
