Hey,
I'm planing to buy a LG G7 "Demo Unit" as they call it and if it has a unlocked bootloader is there any possibility of installing any kind of custom recovery and rooting it?

Hi. I was given a Cricket LG G Stylo to play around with. Previously I have messed around with my HTC Sensation where I which I unlocked the bootloader, did s-off, flashed a custom recovery, and permanent rooted. Can I do all of that with the Cricket version of the LG G Stylo? Most of the threads I've read only talk about rooting the Cricket Stylo but nothing else.
So basically:
1) would I be able to unlock the phone to be use with other carriers? If so, do I do that first or last? And where can I find this info?
2) How can the bootloader be unlocked?
3) If s-off doable on this phone or is that only for HTC phones?
4) How can the stock recovery and ROM be backed up?
5) Are there any working custom recoveries for the Cricket version?
Thanks
Iam new to all of this and need help
You typically need a PC to unlock the bootloader to just about any valid Android device. Unfortunately, the LG Stylo 2 does not have an unlockable bootloader.
Does anyone know if the bootloader on this phone can be unlocked? I am thinking about buying it in Canada but LG phones in Canada tend not to have unlockable bootloaders.
Bump.
What stops us from having root on this thing?
Also curious about this too. I can't find anything
This is the official list of devices that LG will allow for an unlocked bootloader: https://developer.lge.com/resource/mobile/RetrieveBootloader.dev
The ONE is not on the list. So unless LG changes its mind, or someone finds an exploit, we are SOL.
The G7 One has bootloader unlock in the dev options..
But for the life of me, I could not figure out how to get to Fastboot mode..
The G7 ThinQ combinations do not work, neither do adb reboot bootloader
Drop a line if anyone managed to boot into the bootloader..
I recently bought an LG V50 from an overstock warehouse. The phone is brand new and was in sealed box with all the retail contents. The problem is it is operating on Android Pie. The bootloader instruction for this phone requires Android 10. When I tried to flash it with the "engineering abl" to access the fastboot mode, the screen just stayed at LG logo.
So the question is how to get this phone to upgrade to Android 10. And hence do the bootloader unlock on the way to rooting it? I don't have a Sprint/T-Mobile account and plan to use it for music listening only. When I tried to activate it on T-Mobile site, the site tells me that the phone is incompatible and can't be activated.
So I am stuck with the Android Pie that is stopping me from unlocking the bootloader. Any insights?
Many thanks.
Solved it.
Mind sharing how you solved it for anyone coming by with the same problem?
I had to resort to Octopus LG to unlock the bootloader. From there things were easy to root the phone.
Hey, I have a TMobile Moto One 5g Ace 128gb and I don't want to destroy this phone but it sucks being stuck in Android 10. I have rooted phones in the past including Samsung's, LGS and Zte but Motorola is a new beast and I'm afraid of bricking it. I also don't want to be stuck with a custom ROM that doesn't have camera or flash light or some other issue between software and hardware. So I'm asking a professional the NOOB questions.... How do I unlock the bootloader..... How do I install the driver's.... How do I install twrp and root my phone..... And finally how do I install a custom ROM and what's the best one to install? Thank you

After unlocking the bootloader, there is a TWRP that will allow you to flash custom ROMs. It is flashed with fastboot.
You flash custom ROMs from TWRP. There is a Telegram channel with at least two developers of custom ROMs. I have tried Havoc and crDroid. Each has its advantages and fan boys. I am currently running a rooted stock Canadian retail ROM. It is more complicated to run rooted stock. Read the guides carefully and follow the instructions.
Some advice from someone who has unlocked and flashed many phones in the past.
Leave it alone. There is truly nothing to be gained.
