Please help, New to bootloader unlocking, Rooting and Custom Roms - Moto G 5G Questions & Answers

Hey, I have a TMobile Moto One 5g Ace 128gb and I don't want to destroy this phone but it sucks being stuck in Android 10. I have rooted phones in the past including Samsung's, LGS and Zte but Motorola is a new beast and I'm afraid of bricking it. I also don't want to be stuck with a custom ROM that doesn't have camera or flash light or some other issue between software and hardware. So I'm asking a professional the NOOB questions.... How do I unlock the bootloader..... How do I install the driver's.... How do I install twrp and root my phone..... And finally how do I install a custom ROM and what's the best one to install? Thank you

After unlocking the bootloader, there is a TWRP that will allow you to flash custom ROMs. It is flashed with fastboot.
You flash custom ROMs from TWRP. There is a Telegram channel with at least two developers of custom ROMs. I have tried Havoc and crDroid. Each has its advantages and fan boys. I am currently running a rooted stock Canadian retail ROM. It is more complicated to run rooted stock. Read the guides carefully and follow the instructions.

Some advice from someone who has unlocked and flashed many phones in the past.
Leave it alone. There is truly nothing to be gained.

I am just jumping into the android moding world, and I just can't seem to find clarification on a particular issue. It seems that most phones are rootable but many have a locked bootloader. From what I can glean through reading many posts here and searching the web, the geekish options that you give up on a phone with a locked bootloader is the ability to flash the ROM. However, this is contradicted by examples here on this site of ROMs for phones with locked bootloaders. (Moto Atrix for example.) Is it that custom ROMs can only go so far with rooting alone, like the inability to replace the kernel? What exactly do you give up by only achieving root with a locked bootloader vs a rooted phone with an unlocked bootloader? Is it ROM related at all?

You can't flash a custom rom without root. Root is needed to write to system partition etc.
But you can get root without a custom rom.
A locked bootloader means you will have to stay on stock rom. Means no custom kernels, no custom firmware.
Someone correct me if im wrong.
still confused
As mentioned there seem to be custom ROMs for for phones with a locked bootloader. The new Motorola Atrix is an example. While there is complaining that the bootloader is locked there are custom ROMs (2, I believe, so far) available from members of this forum. What is it that can't be done with a locked bootloader?
I'm still confused, but I appreciate the reply.

Safestrap recovery?

Hello... I'm a noob here in motoG. I came from Moto Razr XT910.
In my experience with the razr, there's a way to root and to flash custom rom without unlocking your bootloader.
For razr you just simply root your device first and then install a custom recovery like SafeStrap or Boot Menu Manager and then you're are free to create a rom slot (up to 4 different slots) besides your stock slot. In your stock slot you can keep your original rom and in the other slot you can flash any custom rom you wish to try or make it your daily driver.
Is there any way in MotoG that we can root or flash custom rom without unlocking bootloader?
Thanks before
Hi, I had from Moto Droid Bionic before Moto G. And support from @Hashcode and @dhacker is amazing.
But one thing that device lacking is unlocked bootloader
In locked bootloader device, root can be obtained through exploit and not every device have the same exploit. But in unlocked bootloader device, root can be obtained with just a simple flash supersu zip after you unlocked bootloader and installing customer recovery. Unlocked bootloader device, IMO, have more freedom than locked one, because not just ROMs you can also flash kernel. Something you can not have in locked bootloader device (except offcourse RAZR family with the power of kexec). Luckily for RAZR owners, they have hashcode and dhacker, without them there wont be any development.
The point is, in locked bootloader device the step is like this : root -> custom recovery -> custom ROM
But in unlocked bootloader device, the step is like this : unlock bootloader -> customer recovery -> root / custom ROM
One more thing about safestrap, have you tried one ROM for a long period of time? Because with safestrap, the longer you use a ROM, the performance will be decreasing. A patch is created but never merge by hashcode because it broke the core functionality of safestarp itself. A good write-up about this is in here, from the creator of the patch itself
Anyway, I never heard rooting without unlocking bootloader first. But if you change your mind you can see this thread

Well of course, without the help from hashcode and dhacker (and the other one developer who created BMM, sorry i forgot his name) there won't be any fun in razr.
Well i just wondering if anyone out there who can manage an awesome job like them, a working root and custom recovery without unlocking bootloader, and of course RSD LITE is my best friend if something worst happen
Well if you have free times, just take a look at razr android development thread, we can get a root without unlocking bootloader.
And I've already tried many roms in my razr, the most stable custom rom and i use it as daily driver is liquid smooth (I've been at this rom since maybe from the beginning of liquid smooth first release) , and just yesterday my razr is working flawlessly with original rom on stock slot, liquid smooth v 3.2 on slot 1 and liquid smooth v 4.0 lollipop on slot 2
So i'm still waiting another great developer for my MotoG

Although exploits are possible it won't happen for the moto g. Nobody will bother looking when we can just unlock our bootloader.

Well i think there's a lot of motoG users are going to claim their warranty sometimes if something bad happens.
And how do you claim your warranty? Yeah right, a phone with the bootloader untouched

[Q] New to the Android world, i have afew questions for your

I'm totally new to the Android world and i spent many hours to read this forum to learn as much as possible about my device and what i can do with it. But now, i need your help on a few things.
KitKat vs Lollipop, does it make sense to upgrade to Lollipop now or should i wait? Is there any major know bugs?
Since that i only have a 8gb device, i would like to clean the apps as much as possible. There's many apps that i don't need but they can't be uninstalled. For example, all the Motorola apps (is there something that we really need from them?), a few google apps like Google+, Google Play Films, Hangouts, etc that i will never use.
I want a stable ROM that i don't need to patch every day to solves problems. When i read about CM12 for Moto G, i see people that have problems here and there and wait for the next daily build to give it a try. I don't want to play that game!
If i install a custom rom, i guest that future updates will not come from Motorola. How the updates work afterward?
It's ok if i must have my device rooted
I have read about stock lollipop optimized version by lost101 but it don't think that the versions currently available will work for me. I'm in Canada and the versions that i see is Brazil or Asia.
thank you for you help!
You have the xt1032? Is there any warranty left? If there is no warranty, I recommend unlocking the bootloader before doing anything. It is easier to restore a bricked phone if you have an unlocked bootloader.
If you intend to stay on stock, you need some of the Motorola apps in order to install OTA updates.
Well what I will say is. I'm in the uk using lost101s BR optimized and I'm very pleased with it.

The phone is new but i don't care about the warranty. I've read that i can unlock the bootloader with the Motorola tutorial. I must be honest, i'm a little bit lost. I don't fully understand the difference between "unlocking bootloader" and "phone rooted"!
and yes the model i have is XT1032

You must unlock boot loader first then flash a custom recovery (manually or there is a tool in the development section) then rooting next.
Unlocking the bootloader allows you to install non-Motorola software. With a locked bootloader, the only software that can be loaded on your phone would have to be digitally signed by Motorola.
Rooting gives you administrative access to the system files.
You may not need an unlocked bootloader to get root and you do not need root to unlock a bootloader.
Start here to get the bootloader unlock code: https://accounts.motorola.com/ssoau...ct/standalone/bootloader/unlock-your-device-b
I tried to install TWRP (any version available) but it take like 1 minutes to show the home screen and im not able to "swipe to unlock". So i have installed Philz recovery and then installed lost101 Retail Brazil 5.0.2 Stock ROM (Optimized) v1.1a. I'm playing with it right now and so far so good.

[Q] What is the actual way to unlock & root a LTE with lollipop?

There are many threads about how to unlock and root but things get old much fast, I feel like FAQ is too old to follow.
I prefer ask before make same thing wrong.
I have a Moto G 4g with lollipop locked and orginal, so I decide to put new thing now because same things are annoying me in the phone, I think xposed can help me well, so I only need unlock and put root, but need to know the last way to do this, I know unlock is easy but what recovery to flash and how? What I need to root? Is there same problem with xposed in lollipop?
I did come from Razer D3 mediatek, had not unlocked bootloader but was easy to root and te best way to custom was with xposed, so im more "acquainted" with this.
any help on this would be appreciated.
Please someone answers!!
If your phone is not retail and your carrier locked your bootloader, it's not currently possible to unlock the bootloader or permanently root it. You can only temproot it currently.
If you want to flash a recovery your bootloader must be unlocked. You cannot flash anything with a locked bootloader. But if you wish to know, you can use TWRP or CWM for peregrine phones.

lg q6 unloxk bootloader

Hi. I want to unlock the boot loader lg q6. But i dont have a lg developer account. Iam tried to create . but its not happening. .. and. There is no lg q6. In the unlock bootloader list in lg web site. .
I want to install resurrection remix rom.
Thanks in advance. Sorry. For my bad english
First what you need for installing RR is the ROM itself. I don't know if there is any unoficial or oficial ROM released for the Q6 because this is a really young phone (I'm telling 4-5 months old so...)
Secondly, the bootloader is still not unlocked as I know. Again, because this is a really young phone, don't expect that much. NO, I'M LYING! There's a thread of the TWRP unoficial version for the Q6. But it's just for the M700X, for the other versions I still don't. Have a really good search on the internet and you'll find something that will be useful. Believe me, maybe you'll find something on the internet and if there's no information, wait a couple of months and see if there's something that you need for installing the ROM. Right nos, you just need to find how to unlock the bootloader and that's it.
Thirdly, there's no point flashing the TWRP if you have a valid warranty. If you flash it, good luck not breaking the phone because you don't have the warranty.
And also, if you really like flashing ROMs and you're into messing the setting on your phone, learn on how to code and make ROMs and everything that you need to do to be an expert in everything in tech.
Good Luck!
Any news from unlock bootloader? Anyone have unlock or root this phone?
