No custom ROMs? - Samsung Galaxy S10e Questions & Answers

So I've been lurking, to monitor progress on this phone. For a while now it seems we have pretty much full access to the Exynos version. Yet the custom ROM forum is dead without any posts. Is there some sort of hang-up that I'm missing? Any thoughts on why no one has bothered doing development/porting to this popular model?

Same answer here. There is not even a Telegram chat for roms? Why? Not going to buy this phone without root and custom roms without samsung bloatware.

There are a lot of custom versions in China, but they are all obtained through donations. After all, there are many people in China, and the payment market is huge.

If donations are what it takes to get an English/American custom ROM for the S10e, just tell me where to send the money.

The US version is not Qualcomm 855, the lock BL, and now can not be unlocked, and so on.

I am aware, as are many people here. Which is why I/we would buy the SM-G970F with the Exynos chip and unlocked bootloader. When I got my S7 (which I'm still using), I likewise didn't get the US version for these same reasons.

970f Can be unlocked,I am 970n and have unlocked and swiped the custom rom.

[Q] I need a few questions answered

Hello,
I'm thinking of getting the OnePlus One from this website. They're selling the OnePlus One Chinese model which doesn't have the Cyanogen logo and comes with ColorOS. It is possible to reflash to Cyanogenmod 11S. However my question is does all OnePlus One models allow us to unlock the "bootloader" (if there's any)? Also, what is the difference between the Chinese and the International version? Will I face any difference if I want to flash Roms, kernels and other Android goods? For example, the Xperia Z1 has different models like C6903 and C6906. Some people with the C6906 are unable to flash the C6903 due to difference of hardware. Thanks for taking the time to reply.
Nevermind don't bother answering. Not much activity for the OPO so i'm not buying it.
.......... -_-
Pretty sure they'll be more activities once more devs gets their hands on it. Not enough people have it now due to the invite system.

Yes. It's factory-locked but can be unlocked with the "fastboot oem unlock" command. Note that this command will factory-reset your phone for safety reasons.

Different HSPA and LTE bands tailored to the chinese market. It will work in some countries, but LTE will not work in many - most notably the US.

No other hardware differences are known so they are 1:1 compatible in regards to software.

While questions about the chinese model is not very appreciated on the OP forums, they do have tons about activity. See https://forums.oneplus.net

Can I flash N915G Lollipop to N915T?

Hello everyone, can i just simply flash N915G firmware via odin to my t-mobile N915T?
No. Different hardware.
You can if you want but it will just bootloop... Might be same hardware but the different models are Samsung's answer to stopping grey imports....
You can't flash different model firmware to your device...
Even if you change that sales code or is it CSC that has to be changed from TMB to XSA??

Sales codes are only used to differentiate minor differences in software (such as restricting access to APNs) within a ROM. Even if it was relevant (which it isn't) once you flash a new ROM on, all that is moot.
Thanks for the fast response!

I tried a few things to flash another region rom but it just doesn't seem to work...
Doesn't help I'm not a dev, they might be able to do a workaround but unfortunately most experienced devs went with the Note 4. Unless they wish to develope for a device not their own, unlikely, we just have to try ourselves.
I don't have time to learn but the devs with experience might help out a rookie dev... At t65he very least they might point out where the problem might lie...

Truth.
How many actually experienced devs who've dedicated a significant amount of his or her general developing time to the Edge are there even?

Can I do ALL the mods out there with the 12GB 256GB OP7P bought from oneplus.com

I want to root, unlock bootloader, install custom kernels, custom roms, xposed, magisk, etc. I want to be able try out all the wonderful mods available on this forums.
I'm planning on buying the 12GB RAM + 256GB storage version of this phone directly from the oneplus.com website and use it with the Verizon Wireless carrier in the United States. Will I be able to do everything mentioned above with this version of the OnePlus 7 Pro? Will I be able to use it with Verizon in the US?
If not, what version of the phone should I buy and where can I buy it?
The reason why I ask is that there's many different versions of this phone (e.g. with 8 GB of ram, sold by T-mobile, etc.). I do not want to be limited in what I can MOD with this phone.
If anyone has this version of the phone and has done a lot of MOD's, please let me know.
Thank you.
The simple fact of the matter is unlike other OEMS, OnePlus's Oxygen OS is heads and shoulders above most most OS, both stock and custom. As for mods, splurging for the 12GGB wont really make too much of a difference as 8GB is already overkill. I myself cant think of too many mods because most are either baked in, or a matter of a module from Magisk. Look for the global/US Unlocked GM1917 model of the OP7P if you want to skip a few steps in starting your fiddling.
Is the OnePlus 7T a completely different phone when it comes to modding? Will I be able to use all the mods on this forum if I get the 7T? Will it cause me a lot of problems and hassles if I try to use all the ROM's, Kernels, guides, etc on this forum? Is this forum dedicated only to the NON T version? Is this forum solely for the OnePlus 7 Pro (not the 7T)?

Sorry but you are sounding like a kid on Halloween when you say ALL the mods this and ALL the mods that. First, use the device and see what you find lacking. That is the whole purpose of the modding community, providing options that are lacking. Also, saying "if I try to use all the ROM's, Kernels" gives the impression that you want to install all the roms and kernels at once
As for buying the T, if you have the money and dont mind spending, go ahead, but the differences between the op7p and the t variants are super negligible. And if you do, then this section is not for you, you would need to go the T threads for that.

I'm on Verizon. 12GB/256GB GM1917 directly from OnePlus.
Using both SIMS, the other with T-Mobile.
Using TWRP, Magisk, custom kernel ElementalX, edXposed, and Gravity Box. Google dialer framework installed to get call screening. Modded messenger for RCS. Google Pay and banking apps still work.
No issues
I bought the unlocked 12 gig and don't worry about clearing ram for a while 256 and love it!! ( I shouldn't have done the update to Q though and I lost root. Its a great phone with OOS. but play with it on pie is my recommendation.

Pretty much everything I need. Haven't found a reason to install a custom ROM like I "needed" to on my past HTC phones

Man i messed up! I bought a note 20 ultra from the us.

Im coming from a oneplus 6t and i used to have a s8+ and i always root my phones, install custom recoveries and roms, but im just now reading my phone cant be bootloader unlocked?? What type of **** is this? On every android ive had oem unlocking option. And its too late to return is because its literally coming in a few hours. But this news killed my mood for it. How can i survive without root? Im getting a note 20 ultra unlocked snapdragon variant from the us. Will there be anyway to unlock it the bootloader on this device once i get it?

99% sure we wont be able to bootloader unlock. We wont have the option out of the box so someone would have to find an exploit and its extremely difficult to do.
What exactly do you want root for? Most things we used to need root for have non root options that may be sufficient for what you want.
I'm on a OnePlus 7 Pro right now and I'm rooted. The only thing that I could not do unrooted though is a couple of xPosed modules that arent really that big of a deal.
Edit: Also when you root, you break support for 4k and HDR in apps like Netflix in case that is important to you.

I have rooted every phone I've had until the S8+, I really don't see the purpose anymore. You can use Substratum Lite along with Synergy to theme your phone. Also Adaway has a non root version now too.
My main reason to root is to use phenotype patcher to allow more apps in android auto and to be able to use Fermata player with video. Additionally using swift backup and swift installer. Very convenient. There are unrooted ways to somewhat do what these apps do, but with more hassle.

It feels like we're at a point where if you want to root, you just shouldn't get a flagship device.
I actually haven't had an issue recently without root since most features that used to be 'missing' are now stock or easily available via 3rd party apps. Even package disablers and button mappers still work without root, the new "admin" system seems to work fine for those who know how to code for it.

Well Yes apparently from what this article says:
https://www.xda-developers.com/samsung-galaxy-note-20-ultra-root-us-unlocked-snapdragon-865/
I was going to buy the Note 20 Ultra Exynos to be able to have call recording by changing the CSC to thailand ... but if I can have the snapdragon would be much better... Can anyone that has used that share their experience with this service? I would pay $150 to have the call recording. Even if don't want the LIMITATIONS of rooting but would prefer to have the better Battery life of the snapdragon... This seems like the only way to get call recording on a snapdragon phone... Can someone help with more info on this?
i am ready to trade my note20 ultra exynos for your snapdragon variant
btw, im from germany
Meh, that's the preferred variant less the locked bootloader. I probably keep it.
Get a package blocker for it and be happy...

Question Rooting on a U model

Just got my ZFlip3 today and was wondering what's the best way to root it. OEM unlock isn't an option in my developer options but i can still get into download mode by holding volume buttons connected to USB. Total noob here, is there any hope for my us region phone?

No. The only way to unlock bootloaders from the US models in recent history has been a hacked, remote bootloader unlock that they're charging $150 for.
Edit: And the process isn't out for the flip or fold, to my knowledge.
I'm willing to bet Twistedumbrella simply doesn't have a US model.

Then you're the only person in the country to get one. CONGRATS!
Needless to say, you're one out of a million people in the US who got it, and it's not available to anyone on the Flip3. You're just spreading false info. And honestly, until there's proof, I 100% don't believe you about your Note.
Edit: You know, you keep saying your phone had "OEM unlock" but you never actually said you unlocked the bootloader. You do realize that earlier Samsung phones had an OEM unlock option that just did nothing, correct?

It is just one more reason I wish I hadn't traded it in on this phone. I honestly didn't even know it wasn't supposed to be there until I got this one and it wasn't, but the glass also wasn't supposed to peel away from the panel. I call nonsense unless you got a non USA model with the Exynos SOC.
All USA phones have the snapdragon SOC and have for about 5 years.
The snapdragon version has no publicly known method to unlock the bootloader and it definitely doesn't have the button in dev mode.
I wouldn't mind you using screen record and making a video showing us that you have a snapdragon soc AND an unlock bootloader button.

It's hard to believe considering there seems to be no other case of a snapdragon edition having the option. Unlock carrier yes. Bootloader... No.
It just doesn't make sense that you would get a phone that was running the Exynos version of the firmware on a snapdragon device and the device still worked...

It's certainly an interesting mystery. Id love to get my hands on it and try to figure out how it works in the hope that it would lead to a way to unlock the bootloader on current models.
Perhaps the setting is technically there but hidden by a flag and something happened on your device to flip that flag...
You certainly have me very curious despite my skepticism. I'm gonna go digging... I'm also going to start messaging eBay sellers in hope of finding another snapdragon device with the option available.
Then maybe we could enjoy root without the insane method that requires $150. Hell I'd settle for just having TWRP again.
Sorry I'm a little late to the conversation but here's your unlocked snapdragon. Google is your friend.

Yeah uhm... Plenty of people have spoken to our "friend" Google and haven't found anything.
2 screenshots? Screenshots can be faked. How about before you take a light jab at someone you actually prove them (and everyone else) wrong and post the actual method to unlock the bootloader and get root.
Don't worry we will wait... Of course we won't be holding out breath.
Search the Note 20 Ultra Forum. I don't have the actual method. All I can tell you is I have a Note 20 Ultra 5g from Google Fi, unlocked and rooted. I bought the phone from Google Fi locked. Yes I paid for it but so what, I got the device for half price on a promotion.
Does anything in my post history dictate that I would make some **** up like this? I don't need to impress anybody but spreading misinformation isn't cool. It's entirely possible to get a Snapdragon bootloader unlocked.
Edit: to say the first result is the service I used. Sampwnd

Maybe it was possible to get THAT phone's boot loader unlocked but it's not on any other USA Samsung phone.
Just look at the forums for every USA Samsung phone since the note 8 or 9. Nothing. If it were possible then there would be plenty of roms, kernels etc for USA phones.
So apparently the note 20 ultra fi version can be unlocked... But that doesn't help anyone else.
