A lock screen app with multiple pins? - Android General

I just had an idea and I though I would share it... imagine you had a lock screen app. You can add one code 1234, it opens your phone. Another one 1345, that opens WhatsApp. All unlock the phone, but they do different actions. Maybe someone could make an app like this...

Or use different fingers on the fingerprint reader to launch different apps
I'm not sure if either is even possible tho... I like to think that unlock codes, patterns and fingerprints etc. are hardware based these days, in which case the phone will not accept different inputs for different things, just like there's just one truecrypt password. Unless the functionality already exists deep within the system.
I may be wrong tho, hope someone will chime in.

you can use the default lockscreen plus an app lock

Security, screen locking

First I'd better cover myself - yes I have searched first and not got the answers!
I'd like to be able to lock my phone so that someone who comes along to try and use it is prompted with a password. Sounds simple, doesn't it?
However, I don't want to be prompted to enter a password every time I turn it on. This means I need to be able to choose to lock it or not when I feel like it. Having to set a password and unset it each time is a real pain.
The old solutions to make this easier - Picture Password, Kai's lock tool etc don't work at all on WM6.
The new, great slidy tool that looks like iPhone doesn't do it either.
Does anyone else have this feature or a workaround? It sounds so simple and it's what I do with my PC all the time. Thanks.
some older pda's had fingerprint readers for that purpos

[POLL] Do you use a passcode lock?

Do you use a passcode lock on your phone? If so is it a pattern or password based. Why or why not? I've just been wondering lately. It's becoming more of a hassle not having a reliable timeout for putting in a password.
I wish you could set the passcode lock to come up only every hour and until then it would use the regular lockscreen that can take you directly to texts/missed calls etc.
What do you prefer?
I used pattern lock for a bit when I first got my phone. Then I realized you could see the pattern left by the grease on my fingers. Also very easy for one to watch you and replicate. Same with pin, as far as one watching you. If someone gets ahold of your phone physically, they have access to your sdcard and internal with adb. the only security I use at the moment is, holding on to my phone.

I use the non visible pattern lock and Sim lock.
I'll sometimes disable the pattern lock if I'm using my phone heavily but make sure I enable it when I'm done.
I'm a secret squirrel kinda guy. You just can't pick my phone up and read my emails, text, contacts and browser history.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but doesn't Juice Defender give you the ability to set seperate screen off and lock times? Its full of many other usefull tools as well.
I don't use the locks personally, seems more trouble then I'm willing to deal with. I have the app setup to lock and locate it remotely via SMS if the need be. Besides, what's the worst that could happen other then someone seeing all the porn I have on here.

Juice Defender's lock timeouts never worked right for this specific phone. I looked into it a while back and went with Unlock With Wifi. It worked very well in Froyo in the early versions of the app but with GB and the latest versions it locks on its own randomly even though it's been more than 15 minutes (my timeout at the moment).
Lockscreens are just a hassle :/.
I stopped using the pattern lock when I realized that Odin would get rid of it. I'm sure almost everyone has a friend that knows about how to root phones, so if it's lost, the lockscreen doesn't provide that much protection.
Aside from security, it also doesn't let me use my music player on the lockscreen! It was quite annoying to unlock > access music. Now that I'm using the MIUI lockscreen, it's just turning on the phone and pressing the button.
Btw, for those that might not know, pressing the unlock button twice will open up your music player on the MIUI lockscreen! I found out a few weeks ago! XD
Yes I use the pattern just bcuz it looks cool. Lol. I just wish u could also put one of the EDT tweaks lockscreens and the passcode so i could use the MIUI lockscreen :/

[Q] App to notify me when spouse arrives at work safely?

My wife and I are looking for an app, setting, something, that will notify each of us when the other arrives at work. Once she's arrived at work, she doesn't have the time to whip out her phone and create and send a text to let me know she got there safely.
I'm looking for the something that, perhaps, notifies me, in some way, when her wifi or GPS recognizes when she's arrived in a specific location. Or, maybe even better, a gesture app/setting that allows her to swipe her finger in a specific pattern on the homescreen which triggers the phone to send me a preconfigured text message.
I doubt this is an option, but maybe best of all would be something similar, where she can send that preconfigured text, but from a widget on the lock screen or through a lock pattern that differs from the actual pattern you use to unlock your phone.
I also would prefer something that doesn't take up much in the way of system resources/battery. Thanks!
You can do it easily with Tasker. But it's a little bit hard to learn using it.

I'm just giving you crap; thanks for the tip! I'll check out tasker real quick.
Automate It is easier than Tasker, but not nearly as powerful. Should be enough for your needs though.

Samsung smart door lock. Can it be unlocked by the s8+?

Does anyone know if we can use the NFC chip to unlock Samsung's smart door lock? And if so, how? There's appears to be statements around the web saying it's possible but I haven't found any guide I'm doing so.

you can use the Samsung app to access information like who checked into the system whilst you were away. Remember, only people you authorized access to can unlock the system. Still, it is good to know who has been entering your house when you are not there.
Personally, I loved the various ways that Samsung has allowed its users to unlock the system. You can do so by using your fingerprint, key fob or a designated pin. The fingerprint option itself is highly secure since key fobs are prone to get misplaced and intruders might be able to work around a pin as well. But a fingerprint? No chance.
For those of you who want to provide this fingerprint access to your siblings and loved ones, you will find the 100 fingerprints option to be convenient. You will have control via the app about whose fingerprint can be used to access the lock system, and you can take back this access whenever you want to.
The digital lock also makes a point of providing convenience by understanding that some people tend to remember a pin with given numbers. For example, I can only remember pins which have five digits in them. This lock can have a pin with as low as four digits and as high as twelve digits.
However, one of the key features of this product is also one which makes its usability selective to a certain kind of door. The design of the smart lock is such that it can only work with handles rather than doors which feature a knob. Hence, if your doors have knobs, you might want to get them changed to handles if you think the product is worth it.
I found this product to be too overpriced, even by my standards. Yes, the fingerprint feature is exemplary and its compatibility with Samsung’s home security feature is equally impressive, but there are various locks that might provide you with some of these features at a low cost.

I've never used a smartlock before but you mention nfc and there's an app called card nfc emulator and it does exactly what it says.
As much as I like electronics, etc, and have a fairly complete 'smart house', I will not put a smart lock, that can be triggered via separate gadget, on any exterior door on my property, though most of our exterior entry doors have touch pad entry locks.
I have way too many sentimental's that I could never replace again, not talking $, talking sentimental's.
insurance $ will take care of the other stuff.

Looking for app to lock entire phone (not just apps)

I can't be the only one wanting this, right? I am someone who doesn't use screen lock. I like to just quickly swipe to unlock my screen.
But sometimes at work when you keep your phone on your desk and want to go to the toilet, you want to quickly lock the phone just in case. Or you are charging your phone and need to step away for a minute. You want to quickly lock it up, and quickly unlock it again with a PIN. Android (and Samsung) do not make this easy, because going through the Settings page to enable and disable the screen lock is troublesome. It takes quite a few steps. I just need an app (or even widget) that quickly toggles a phone lock. It doesn't even need to use the Android system's screen lock.
There are plenty of apps that let you lock down individual apps. But I can't find one that locks down the whole phone just like the stock screen lock. I can understand this is not easy to program, but I think it is possible. Because I see apps like this that can keep you in the lockscreen until a certain time limit.
https://labs.xda-developers.com/store/app/com.teqtic.lockmeout
If Android Pie had a quick toggle for changing screen lock type (e.g. PIN / swipe), that would be perfect. I can't believe the developers haven't considered this. I mean, they even made a toggle for flashlight...
I don't want to use a custom launcher because I really like Samsung's One UI, and I don't want to install something like Tasker because I don't want to give it excessive permissions or root my phone.
Does anyone know of an app or a method to achieve what I described?
