TMobile unlock? - OnePlus 7 Pro Questions & Answers

For all us impatient OnePlus fans who just had to have it now and went out to purchase the tmo variant instead of ordering the unlocked variant I was wondering has anyone been able to get it unlocked from TMobile imediatly? I've tried several times with no luck.

I tried contacting TMO via Twitter and the rep said she couldn't do anything. She told me that she would absolutely make an exception but that there was no way to override the 40 day/paid in full restrictions. I'm not sure how credible that is though since others claim to have gotten theirs unlocked regardless, but oh well. I'll try calling support later today.
I'm hoping that someone finds a way to reflash the device soon before the return period ends.

I did via TMobile help on Twitter. With Jump on demand and not paid off

I'm jealous. By any chance, can you post screenies of what you said to the support agent? I wanna see how you were able to get them to unlock it

I called and messaged three different people. They both told me no. I reached out on twitter, he made me pay off the phone to unlock it which I think is legit. I didn't have to wait 40 days.
Spoke to a rep on the phone prior, she said if I paid off the phone I would have to wait 40 days

Do not wait just call 611 from your phone.
Tell them you are a developer and the phone is of no use to you without unlocking it. Then tell them it was just the same as on op6t they put u on hold then tell you to try the unlock app.
It worked for me but T-Mobile help on Twitter was a no go 3 times.

That's exactly how the first one I talked to was. I tried a second rep later on, and they told me that since I was a 10-year customer, they'd override the requirements! I'm now SIM unlocked I also applied for my bootloader unlock .bin through the OnePlus site, so in a week or so, I should be rooted!

Are you guys paid in full, eip or JOD?

I'm financing mine via JUMP.

I was able to unlock on JOD and my phone is not paid off. I told them I was traveling for 3 months so they wouldn't try to do the temp unlock because you can only temp unlock for 2 months. I told them I wanted the permanent unlock because I didn't want to have to deal with trying to get permission on a 3rd unlock and now I'm out the country with no phone. Did a bit of flexing my 8 year tenure as well but all this was about a 5 min convo and they did it.

That's awesome! For my 6T, they agreed to SIM unlock if I paid two installments, which totaled at $83, and I thought that was good, but this time around, they really showed their appreciation for their long-time customers! I was elated ?

Nice. I keep trying but each one says something else. Did you do phone or twitter?

Hey everyone! So I was able to get T-Mobile Twitter to unlock it. The rep is telling me to the use the unlock app, but I keep getting a Server error error code = 1 your device isn't recognized by the carrier. If looked through the 6T forums seems like the app isn't asking for phone permissions and the permissions is greyed in in setting (No perms requested)
Any idea on how to get the app to work?

I can't get the app to work either...... (JOD, Called 611 told them I wanted it unlocked so I could install OnePlus version of OS, flexed my 11-year service and she unlocked it. Shows unlocked on tmo website but OEM Unlocking is still grayed out).

Well I just got mine unlocked, mines is paid in full. It took me like 5 tries twice on Twitter 3 times on the phone. My 3rd try on the phone I flat out told them "look, I'm looking for someone to unlock my phone because all the other reps keep giving me the run around. I know you guys can unlock it right away, I own the phone I shouldn't have to wait no freaking 40 days or 7 days. I need it unlocked now because I travel." Sure enough the rep apologised for the other reps and unlocked me right away.

Have you updated to latest ota? Also this happened when I was on op6t and I fixed it by factory reset. Then skipped through set up and right to the app. It will only unlock with your sim card in the device.

Yup I am on the latest. There was in OTA while I setting it up. I guess I will have to try a factory reset and hope that fixes it!

So tried resetting no luck! The rep on twitter assures me its because its locked and won't process on there end. But tried two factory reset and the app just spits out the same error code

I just asked and they unlocked Bootloader (T-Mobile)

Hi, everyone so I was trying to unlock my T-Mobile Pixel 4 XL the other night and I was having a problem with the person previously than the ones that ended helping me to get it done. I told them I just wanted to unlock it for a trip, I didn't want to tell them I wanted to root it. They said I needed to make so many payments for a temporary unlock and pay the phone in full for a full unlock. That didn't work. So the next day, I just said I needed to unlock my bootloader and the only way to do it was if the phone was unlocked. At this point, I had the phone for a week, but they did it, I was able to unlock the phone in the app and OEM unlock in developers menu and root like everyone else. I provided some screenshot on the twitter conversation.

Don't hurt to ask nicely
I tried through the chat function in the TMobile app. Even threatened to switch carriers and they stood their ground. Said they 'respect' my decision.
Just got my phone ulocked as well, just by asking nicely on Twitter.
I'm trying this now for my 3a, will update if it goes well.
Excuse my ignorance, but what are the advantages of rooting this device if you don't mind me asking.. I'm new to my Pixel XL. Thanks for your patience in advance

Well, I'm going through twitter support now. Of course the first thing they ask is if the device is paid off. They were really cool about it but basically told me I'm SOL.
I really wanted to avoid having to go through a grey-area unlocking service.

Holy ****ttt . It actually worked for me ! It took a week but it worked ! It was from someone on the T-Mobile app. I basically told them how I loved the phone but I was disappointed that I couldn't use it to it's fullest potential so I needed it unlocked. and that I have paid more than a half of the device off so I really would like it unlocked or I would like to switch to a cheaper phone. The lady was very nice to me and said that she would work that out for me as best as she could and she really did it for me !

The carrier lock is what prevents you from the OEM unlocking. if you get it carrier unlocked and stick a different sim in you should be able to oem unlock.

Once you're 40 days in the temp unlock works. But from what I've read the OEM unlock button in Dev options is still greyed out so you can't unlock the bootloader. That switch has to be flipped on in order for you to be able to run the fastboot command.

Yeah I definitely understand how it works I was on the phone with a T-Mobile escalations supervisor regarding the four or five people that had their devices unlocked through two T-Mobile help without issue and without being within policy and they're still giving me no and I'm not taking no I'm taking it all the way to the FCC at a class action lawsuit if I have to this is my second Google Pixel 4 XL because the first one they told me I could boot later unlock and I couldn't The second one after showing them proof that it's been done they gave me a not so straight okay-ish upgraded me again and I got the device yesterday and they won't do Jack about it. I currently have three contacts in the office of the president escalations department and I am waiting here back from one of them...
I just randomly tried to unlock my phone from the unlock app and it worked. Didn't ask and device isn't paid off.
Just hit up Tmobile-help on Twitter and asked them if they would unlock my phone so I could better help with Android 11 development and they did it with no trouble. Even thanked me for helping with 11 development. My phone is not paid for. I do have 5 lines and have been a customer for awhile. Not saying it will work for everyone but did for me.
No luck here
Just got my T-Mobile Pixel 4 XL unlocked via Twitter.
I'm a brand new T-Mobile customer AND my phone is on a lease, not paid off at all. In fact I've not made any monthly payments or anything yet! I've only had the phone 4 days.
The trick is to ask them to enable dual SIM card mode and provision you over to an ESIM so you can run a physical SIM due to single issues. Basically T-Mobile sucks so bad you can't use your phone in some areas without a secondary SIM.
This was really what was happening for me and I had no issues getting it unlocked.
I now have a T-Mobile ESIM and a AT&T physical SIM plus OEM modes unlocked.

Why do I read posts on here about everyone having success in getting t-mobile to unlock their phones even when their still being financed and I have talked to 5 different reps and everyone of them has flat out told me they will not unlock my phone until I pay it off?
I use the same recommended story that I'm an app developer and I need my bootloader unlocked which requires the device to be unlocked.

Have you been with T-Mobile long? I suspect they're more willing if you've been a customer for years and have remained in good standing, always paying your bills in time. Not saying that you haven't, I just think that will help. Maybe they're less inclined with new customers, though I'm just speculating.
Get at T-Force on Twitter, that's what I did. I was honest with them, told them I had to travel (so the unlock for me just happens to also help me here). They initially tried to do the temporary unlock and when that didn't work for whatever reason, they forced the full unlock. Took 5 minutes tops. Of course, YMMV...it depends on the rep you get. If one won't do it, try again the next day and you'll likely get a different rep.

they helped me with the unlock today.
https://www.oneplus.com/unlock_token
So I would love if I could get this XDA community alive as far as the KB2007 is concerned. To update everyone with the process thus far.
I bought two Oneplus 8T+ From T-Mobile less than a month ago. Also started new service with them, go me!!!
I love the functionality of a rooted device. I've been using a non rooted S9+ on att for the last 2+ years.
So here we are.... I buy the phones, take them home. Only to see my OEM unlock greyed out..... DAMMIT.
I call t-mobile, they tell me I have to wait 40 days from the date purchased for them to unlock the SIM. Mark the day on my calendar.
Not really patient for that, so I started looking on good ole' XDA.
To my surprise I find some info that says I should message t-mobile on fb.
Why not??? Lets try it. They got the unlock done within 5 minutes.
Permanent unlock lets gooo!!!! So I reach out to oneplus, to get the bootloader unlocked. Got the unlock code. Used the website, pending application! GREAT!
So questions for the future. Is there any good OnePlus k2007 OFFICIAL Roms out?
And should I be fine using https://androidbiits.com/root-t-mobile-oneplus-8t-plus-5g-kb2007-easily/
as a source to root from? Any information would be gladly appreciated.

Lineage, crDroid, etc, all works with KB2007 with single SIM support. You can flash Global/EU/India OOS for dual SIM support.
It says there are no known issues from converting. So it won't make it anymore difficult for me to connect to tmobile towers? Is there anything I need to lookout for while doing this? Seems like a wild method. Why does the conversion need to happen. Jc?
Radio is not affected.
Do you want Dual SIM? That's the big thing it enables, along with faster updates w/o T-Mobile in the way.

If you flashed back to stock by using MSM for instance you have to start over as if you are taking the phone from the box.
Everything you did prior to the recovery is history and irrelevant to the current state of your phone with the exception of the unlock token.
You don't need a new one the original one will work.
nm i forgot to follow with oem unlock

Sorry bro, he closed that thread a while back. It was legit, he unlocked both of mine. Keep a look out to see if he will do it again. Otherwise you may have to call TMO and persuade them to help or tweet the help desk. Happy modding!
So maybe I can give some help with information. T-Mobile will not allow you to seamlessly network unlock without a full payoff. You can typically contact T-Mobile's Twitter and get them to unlock it if you have a specific reason. According to someone I know directly in their support, they will typically unlock with minimal hassle if you have at least three device payments. However, you can typically get an unlock earlier if you give them a valid reason. A lot of people reported network issues with an OTA. Referencing this, and informing them that a bootloader unlock is necessary for repair, they unlocked mine with literally a single payment on file. It took a bit of persistence (and even referencing the XDA thread), but they did unlock it for me. Give it a shot. Worst they can say is no.

Which thread is it in I'm having trouble finding it.
I just called T-Mobile and they approved the unlock for my OP8 (purchased in August 2020). My reasoning was T-Mobile is paying half of the phone (50% off deal) and told them I will be paying my half early (around $230 left). So they said yes to unlock my phone. Give it a try.

Yeah but I bought the phone off of eBay so I don't think they will unlock. I am thinking of paying for an unlock service that costs around $80-$100 (I don't know of any legitimate ones) or returning the phone and buying the n10 5g. The only thing preventing me from getting the n10 5g is the lcd screen, that is a major issue for me.

though you bought it, are you a tmobile customer? I think if the phone is already paid off, and you use the phone on their network for at least 40 days straight, then you should qualify for an unlock.

I got my TMo OP8 off Swappa and just requested the unlock code from the OnePlus website the day it arrived. It took 7 days literally to the minute to get my unlock code, which I hear is the norm.
But also note that we're all talking about 2 different things: a bootloader unlock (which is what I did) and a carrier unlock (which is what OP was after, I believe).

when i checked the oneplus website for bootloader unlock it required an unlock code from tmobile. can you link me to the page where i can request the bootloader unlock?
edit: I am an idiot, disregard that.
Can you help me with getting the unlock token? what exact commands did you use to get unlock code? I followed the oneplus guide but get the response-
"C:\platform-tools>fastboot.exe oem get_unlock_code
FAILED (remote: 'Please enable OEM unlocking in Settings first')
fastboot: error: Command failed"
my understanding is that you need to sim unlock before you can oem unlock.

Referencing this, and informing them that a bootloader unlock is necessary for repair, they unlocked mine with literally a single payment on file. It took a bit of persistence (and even referencing the XDA thread), but they did unlock it for me. Give it a shot. Worst they can say is no.

this is what i had the ebay seller i got my phone from do, and apparently they are going to unlock tonight; the rep said the phone needs to be used for at least 48hrs on tmo network, but preferably 40 days before unlocking. It seems they have an official policy on carrier unlocking and then another policy which is only used on twitter; all very confusing. my concern now is that custom roms will not work correctly on tmo op8t, as verizon owner have reported crdroid not working for them.
Ok mobdeep is back in the game of unlocking TMO phones. Head to his thread and read the info. Happy modding!
So I have an unlocked carrier t-mobile device and I want an unlocked bootloader. Who do I need to contact to get the 7 days rolling? Thanks

If you guys are wanting to root your Tmobile/Sprint phone here is the guide, i unlocked my phone, unlocked my bootloader & rooted it. To get token it took exactly a week. Here are the guides: Android 11 how to root T-MOBILE OP8 5G
TIP: Go into Settings>Wifi&Network>SIM&Network:> Network Unlock. This should get your phone unlocked which is the first step. Then head over to unlock token - OnePlus (United States) and apply to get your token, which took me 1 week exactly. Here is also a tool incase you brick your phone: Unbrick tool to restore your device to OxygenOS

carrier unlock

im really confused about this right now lol...i just got the 8t+ last saturday, ive been with sprint for 4 years, called sprint today and asked about getting the carrier unlocked so i can get the bootloader unluck from oneplus, and of course i was denied, now the phone is tmobile branded and in the about phone status area it shows sim status and shows tmobile, it doesnt have the tmobile unlock app on the phone and
when i search for a unlocking service none show up for unlocking sprint and all show for unlocking with tmobile unlock app....
so im thinking im screwed to get it unlocked until after its paid off and that sucks..
unless anyone knows something that i havent found

You access the unlock app via settings. I believe its under sim and network
Search the threads. There's posts about getting an unlock before the device is paid off. There's a XDA member that was doing unlocks if you sent him a PM with a request. You can also request unlocks through customer service if you're lucky. It's all covered there. The search box is your friend in this.

yes i know and sprint denied me, and i have sent him a message.
the problem is, since we are on sprint, and my phone has the tmobile unlock app on it. do i call sprint or tmobile?
the XDA member said in a post that he had to turn away a few people that had the phone with sprint, thats why im a little confused, and i did a search for unlock sites and they only have for the unlock app, there isnt a sprint unlock option just the tmob option,

Are you still a Sprint account? Do you still sign into your phone account at Sprint.com or now at T-Mobile.com? I know there's a heavy push to get Sprint customers to come through the TMO stores and get their SIM cards replaced with new ones. That's part of the transition. I got a friend who worked at a Sprint store and was converted to TMO store. I'll ask him about the accounts.
Yeah so update, as long as you have a balance on your phone you can't switch to TMO. If you can return the device, might suggest doing that so you have no phones you owe for. Port over to TMO and then get the new phones on a plan. Then you have a path to unlock via the known methods.

My friend did just tell me if you transfer the device to another account for 46 or 52 days, he couldn't remember which, that it would auto unlock. Stupid little tricks. Happen to have a friend that got the same device? Swap devices between accounts?
Even on sprint it uses the unlock app still. The only reason magnefica cant do it is because he can only access tmo system accounts. He doesn't have access to the sprint system. I got mine unlocked via twitter. You just need to keep DM'ing tforce on there until someone unlocks it for you. There's a whole thread on here about it.

Question TMobile shenanigans

So as of late, TMobile doesn't unlock devices now unless you meet their requirements. The 40 day connected and paid off rule. Impressed they are tight on this now. I recently had a OnePlus 9 pro that was paid off and bought elsewhere and they gave me a hard time to unlock sim. I have recently got my Pixel 7 Pro and the same rules apply. Last year with the Pixel 6 Pro,they sim unlocked on my 4th day of having device unpaid. The "development purpose" doesn't work any more. They tell you, "ah, I'm seeing that you want to root your device..." And shut you down immediately.
What pickle I got myself into. Got an unlocked p7p from Google Fi, but, they wouldn't let me pay it off for some reason, so I returned it. Bought one outright for 973 at TMobile. Got the wife an s23 ultra and they refunded me for my p7p and put it on a plan to get the 600 off with op9p trade in. Now I'm stuck with a locked phone again.
My question is:
OnePlus had an adb command to ungray the OEM unlock... Does the Pixel have a way? Or does someone here do it? Or if any trusted 3rd party could be recommended?
How did you contact them? Personally, I have never had any luck outside of their Twitter support. They gave me pushback a bit, but after expressing being disappointed that I traded in my unlocked phone for a locked device and being a bit of an ass they eventually did it for me. I also made sure to stress that I had no way to go back to my previous device, since I traded it in. Their direct support line did NOT flex on the requirements at all.
See my post here:

This is an excellent resource for information on bootloader unlock ability.
There are several components at play here:
ro.oem_unlock_supported is set at ROM build time; if 1, the OEM Unlocking toggle should be available. This property is not visible without root.
sys.oem_unlock_allowed is used by some "permissive" devices such as the Google Pixel to determine whether OEM unlocking should be allowed; in the case of the Pixel, this is done by checking an online whitelist of serial numbers
get_unlock_ability is controlled by the OEM Unlocking toggle. Off is 0, on is 1. If 0, the bootloader will reject fastboot flashing unlock. Can be checked in bootloader mode using ADB: fastboot flashing get_unlock_ability

Nothing can be changed via command line without root.

I did through Twitter also and no budge. I think at this point they have me flagged for always unlocking my device(s) and being a complete and total ass most times to them.

That's too bad cause the op9p had a command line to ungray the OEM unlock option whilst the phone is sim locked and bootloader locked. Wonder if I tried the same command.hmmmm

What was the command? You aren't talking about doing stuff through MTKclient or anything are you?
Had a similar situation with T mobile. I met all of their requirements. Paid off device, over 1 year active on their service, but since I bought it at Best Buy and not T mobile direct they wouldn't unlock it.
Now I am dealing with Boost mobile BS. Trying to port my number out for over 2 weeks and still nothing.

this is the command:
adb shell pm uninstall -k --user 0 com.qualcomm.qti.uim
i know its a different SoC bt wondering if something similar could be replicated??
that allows the OEM unlock toggle to work on sim locked devices. I just need root, well dont really need it except ive become grown to se Adblock for the ads.
I'm not directing/telling you to do this @avid_droid, but I've read on the forum here that some members have had to speak to 5+ service reps (on either/both Twitter) to get them to unlock the device where all you can hope for is to get lucky enough to fall into talking to an accepting rep. Those members really just had to be persistent until they landed on one. I really wonder (& doubt) they keep track or put a note in your "record" all the attempts to get it done...I highly doubt anyone on T-Mobile cares...
But supposedly one can get in their good graces by being a long time customer...?
Unfortunately, those adb shell commands haven't worked on a Pixel since very early on (I'm thinking no later than the Pixel 3)...

They keep notes on me and I can guarantee that. I went through multiple chats to get a paid off device sim unlocked. More than 5 I guarantee. Everytime I started a chat, they knew what I was going to ask everytime before I said anything. I had to go up the chain many times with no success. I'll try again for ****s and giggles

Naw they've always kept tabs on my account since losing my shhh on them multiple times. It is weird that I am flagged though
I got my pixel 7 Pro unlocked by TMO the day I got it. I called into customer support and told them "I have a second sim for work and want to use the phone at full potential. But it doesn't allow me to install the sim because says carrier locked." You are asking for sim unlocking and it unlocks the bootloader too. If the representative will do it they will have download the unlock app in play store. Open the app and it unlocks sim and bootloader..After it says in app sim unlocked, reboot the phone and it will allow OEM unlock to be toggled and I never looked back. I got the super deal where they gave most the price off if I bring my own phone and trade it in. Still isn't fully paid off and rooted since day 1.

I paid mine off as ive stated but they wanted me to get the 600 off with my op9pro trade in so i did that. These guys on T-Force wont even respond to me haha. Tmobile has good service but their customer service is bad for the past couple months from what ive been experiencing.
Yep it's been a few hours and no response from T-Mobile on Twitter. I'm flagged

On mine I called in. For the other 6a my gf has I went threw T-Mobile chat in the app and had a rep do it that way also. The "I need it unlocked for work sim" method works. Unless it's flagged or something. I was a brand new customer at the time too. Just switched from Google Fi. Traded in a few phones and got a 7 Pro and 2 6a's. Also have my old 6 pro still. Traded in some old janky Samsungs and a 5a 5g. Only one hasn't been unlocked because it's my son's phone and he doesn't use root. I didn't have any problems but I know some have had problems with customer service. I tried the Twitter t force way and never got a response. I called and chatted.
So after hours of wait I finally got hot with the requirements again after telling them I know about it. Still no luck. In all honesty, I don't actually feel a need to be unlocked. Its not like it's gonna happen any time soon for me cause TMobile just loves me
I spent a month. A month calling for two weeks of that month daily waiting for long holds just to get through. They said everything under the sun promising me it would get unlocked in a 24-72 hour period.
Then after a month of back and forth they finally said my unlock request has been denied but gave no explanation as to why even when I asked.
Their customer service was awful. Conflicting information and hostile customer service reps.
T-Mobile has lost me as a direct customer for a long time.
I'm with AT&T but I got my pixel 7 pro phone fully unlocked for this reason. I can toggle OEM unlock any time I want right from the get go with out any issues. You're always better off with buying the phone in full.
