Galaxy S8+ SM-G955F what else can I do? I tried almost everything (battery life) - Samsung Galaxy S8+ Questions & Answers

Everything started with the Pie Update a few weeks ago. My battery life kept getting worse and worse. Since I change almost nothing in usage over the two years of owning it, I should be able to make a viable judgement.
Basically when I bought it, I was left with like 10-20% after what I consider a day. I also consider myself a heavy user. Now it's more like, that I have to charge it after 3/4 of that same usage time or I'm left with 1-3% after a day.
What I did:
- Factory reset
- Factory reset without automatic backups etc. (everything installed manually)
- "Battery calibration", various ways of doing that, with running it until it turns off, not switching on and recharging it without being on
- Exchanging battery (on my own) thus voiding the warranty already anyway (it's two years old, so it doesn't matter)
- "Battery calibration" again...
- Factory reset (all clean again...)
- and now I even downgraded to the last Oreo version with a Samsung Stock ROM
- during all of this, of course I did all the "normal" stuff like switching off WiFi when I'm not at home, location services to "phone only" and so on
It's still not getting better! I can not believe this and I just refuse to buy a new phone every two years! It's not even about the money, it's just stupid and besides that is the S8+ kind of the "perfect phone" to me until this crap started to happen.
As a last resort I would root it and go to some custom ROM... would that help anything? I just start to get nervous because of all the time I'm investing in this crap.
For the record: This was the last Samsung. Huawei is starting to look appealing

I have S8+ also DS model...Never have any issue with battery life. Im on custom ROM from the day one...So, try to flash idk maybe, DeluxeROM ( https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=79406576&postcount=2173 ) and you will see does it will help. Anyways, you fix it or not (its just maybe a bad series of S8), pls keep your brain in Samsung direction, forget about Huawei...This is ofc just my opinion [emoji123][emoji123].

Third Phone - Not the Charm!

Just got my third G2x from T-Mobile. I'm running LauncherPro. I must have done something wrong because I backed up to SD card but after installing new phone it gave me an error reading SD card. I had to reset everything!
Anyway, I got a 2nd replacement (this is number 3 phone) because the 2nd one continued to have the random reboot issues.
This one is different from the other two. The icons in the top bar are smaller and the GPS signal button is different. Could this be an upgraded software?
It states Android 2.3.3, kernel version 2.6.32.9 and Software version LG-P999-V21e
Trouble is, this phone is way worse than either of the first two! I think only 1 reboot so far (1 day) but 3 times now after the phone sleeps I have to remove battery to turn it back on! And it will not allow me to mount the phone as a USB. Sometimes the message appears to turn on USB but it will not work. Touching the screen does nothing. Then the screens start to rapidly change.
Looking like number 4!
What other programs have you installed? These types of issues are almost always apps and not the OS or the hardware. The fact you are having similar problems with three phones seems to indicate that even more. Stop blaming the device and figure out what you are doing to it to screw it up.
Try installing the GB drivers to your computer via LG. That's what I had to do to get my phone to mount.

I agree. "I went through 8 G2x's and all of them did the same thing after I restored my backup..."
Also, get off the stock firmware as it is absolutely unstable (Sleep of Death (SOD) and resets). I've been running MIUI since mid-August and haven't had 1 reset or SoD. Most CM7 nightly builds are good but a few will cause issues. Look at the stable version of CM7 or Weapon.

The stock Gingerbread firmware is absolutely rock solid. I have been running it since it was released and have had zero problems. The only change to the system is that I rooted it. If I install an app that gives me the slightest trouble I uninstall it immediately. There is nothing wrong with the GB rom as LG delivered it. The Froyo rom did have problems, but the GB rom is very good. Many of the custom roms are based on it and just have hacks and tweaks. Very few are compiled from source like CM is.
Update to Phone
First, let me say that T-Mobile Customer Service is great! Every time I call or visit the store they are friendly and try their best to help me.
I called T-Mobile and explained the issues on this phone, as one person wrote above the "SOD". She walked me through a bunch of steps, and I'm fine with that, I understand she has to be sure i have done all the typical troubleshooting. She confirmed that the new one had GB.
She is sending phone number 4 out today. Meanwhile she said go by the store to have them check the battery, just in case. I did that, it was kind of funny. Gal says, no need to test it, I'll just grab a new one. She comes back and inserts new battery, "There ya go, brand new battery". Ah, Miss, I say, it won't turn on now. "No, that can't be, its a new battery". She finally went and got me yet another new battery!
Hopefully this 4th phone will do the trick.
As for the apps, maybe I do need to uninstall some, but it seems like what I have are all mainstream apps:
Launcherpro
Beautiful Widgets
Touchdown Pro
Pure Calendar
Juice Defender
Batter Monitor Widget (free edition)
All of the above are paid apps too, not free versions (except Battery Monitor).
Any thoughts, known issues on these?

All those are pretty common apps, none of which I've had trouble with. Juice defender has been a cause of connectivity, etc issues for some people, but works fine on all my devices.
If I were you I would ***** until they replaced it with a Sensation, Amaze, SGS2, etc. I've seen so many people with 3,4,5,6 replacements on this board....why? As much as I like the form factor, the G2x is not worth 4 replacements. NO product is worth 4 replacements. Needing to have a product replaced is one thing, having to replace the replacement, or more, is ridiculous. Fool me once....
At what point do you say, "wow screw this POS." 4 replacements is a company jacking you around. I got lucky with a mostly mint G2x on launch day. Had it had issues I would have replaced it, beyond that..... the G2x is a nice phone, but there is absolutely zilch nada NOTHING special enough about it to deserve 4 replacements.
I don't mean to sound like a douche or harsh or anything. I just don't get why this is a recurring theme on this board. Would you do this with a pair of jeans, or with a TV, or with tires? No. The product sucked the first time, why repeat the experience?
I hear ya Adamhart. On the phone with CS today I asked this very question. She said I was not eligible for a different pone ... yet. She indicated that x number of returns within 90 days usually trips the option. First sign of trouble on number 4 and I will be calling. When the phone is working I like it, but I'd happily trade it for something else.
Thanks for the note on Juice Defender, I noticed on another thread some issues so for the moment I have it turned off.
Fouth Phone Arrived
So number 4 arrived next day. I set it up. Such a pain to have to reinstall everything. So far all is good. The battery life is not improved but one day later with no reboots and it starts up without a problem (no sleep of death!).
So far so good.....
I' ve been using an extended battery for a few months now and its been great. No reboots or SOD issues.
Couple of weeks ago I insert the stock battery. Within the hour I have 1 freeze up and 3 SOD! That stock battery is defective. Its been the cause of 80% of my problems with this device.
4th phone has same problems. Already posted a rant! I'm going to try rooting!
You know I never had a problem with my g2x and I see all these people going thru 3-6 phones THANK GOD I'm not on that statics.

I broke my last one (slammed it on concrete) so got a replacement through Asurion, they sent me a refurb (as they tend to do).
thing worked well for the first day, albeit a bit weak on battery, then started having charge issues and general mis-reporting on the battery (it'd say 100% when it meant 20%, around 5 hours after being unplugged it would drop very steeply (~75%) to catch up)
I noticed on the 1809#*999# menu that the Factory Version was registering as Unknown. After a few more days of it being a pain in the ass I went ahead and did a Factory Reset. After which the Factory Version reported the correct numbers.
Works almost flawlessly now, I'm getting a good 30 hours of battery life out of the thing (mostly texting + standby). I'm currently using the default launcher with Go Contacts and Go SMS (It sucks Go Contacts can't clear missed calls properly on 2.3.3 but it's a minor complaint), Facebook, Battery Monitor Widget (3c), and a few other small apps.
Also, I noticed on my first phone that JuiceDefender seemed to cause Sleep of Death issues. At least thats what the process of elimination had me believe (and this was back on Froyo). IMO - just leave everything alone with regards to task killers and battery enhancers, GB actually does a very good job of battery management on its own.
I continued to have trouble with number 4. Called T-Mo. Long story short they said "nothing we can do until LG comes out with new software update".
Phone is just not useable the way it is (mine that is) so I finally followed the advice of so many on this board and I rooted the phone and installed CM7.
I was a little freaked out a first because CM7 looks so different. Now I am comfortable with it. I have loaded up all the apps and configurations again. So far it is good. A couple of times the phone shut down but that may be more to all the changes I have been doing. One the whole it is far more stable than stock. Battery life is a tad improved too, but still not great.
My mom is about to embark on her third try. She doesn't download apps at all. Phone won't hold call for more than a minute.

Nexus 5 and various issues, anything that can be done?

So I've started to get a lot of issues on my Nexus 5 that I ordered back in November 2013 (when it was released) and they are too big to be left alone. If I cannot fix them, I'll have to buy a new cellphone and there's none that interest me right now, nor that I want to change my current Nexus 5.
Issues:
My Nexus 5 doesn't connect to my cellular network anymore. I'll stay on "No service" and refuse to connect to any Operator Network stating that the network is unavailable at the moment, even thought it is. Sometimes, it'll connect to the network for 15 to 30 minutes, before losing it for the next 8 hours.
It becomes hot really, really quick randomly. The upper back part of it becomes hot, and according to the Nexus 5 architecture, the battery isn't even located there so I don't know what could make it heat up like that. This happens even without it being charged, and without me using it a lot (games, apps, etc.)
The phone will randomly restart for no reason, and sometimes stay stuck on a "boot loop" (Starting apps X of Y... before restarting).
The vibrate mode is messed up. It'll vibrate every 30 seconds for a notification (email, Facebook, SMS, etc.) despite the fact that there's nothing, absolutely nothing. Right now I disabled the vibration/sound mode to avoid that issue.
The battery gets drained really, really fast. Like overnight, while not being used it'll fall from 100% to 5%. It never used to do that. When I don't use it overnight, it would lose maybe 20%, even less than that. It started recently as well.
All these issues were present in past versions of Android, starting at 4.4 so I doubt the version is in cause here, but it's still a possibility I guess.
I got my SIM card changed for a brand a new one, troubleshooted the phone with everything I could find online before giving up and restoring it to it's default settings, but the issues are still present. I don't know what I should check anymore. If you have any comments, experiences or solutions I could try to solve my issues, please let me know since at this point I'll most likely try all of them. Also, if you need more information on my phone, system, etc. let me know as well.

There is a recognised problem with the Nexus 5 that a dead battery can kill something in the radio functionality. Since you have so many problems your best bet is to start with the software - a full refresh of the ROM. It might be worth waiting a few days for the release of Android 6.0 which is supposed to be coming in the next week (anything from 29th September to 5th October, but who knows...?). If you can't wait, save whatever you want from the device and install preview 3 MPA44I - it works very well on my N5, and since I'm not using it as my daily phone (I have a Nexus 6) the standby battery life is amazing. At the moment it shows 76% with 13 days 12 hours left.

It used to be rooted, but it's not anymore. Any way I can make sure that it's rooted or not? When I used the SuperSU app back then I realized at some point that it wasn't rooted anymore (it was telling me that this app can only be used on rooted devices). I think the bootloader is unlocked because when I open my device, it shows me the little lock icon, but it's open (unlocked). Also, it's freshly reset to factory default (from yesterday).

I already did a Factory Reset on my phone yesterday, so I guess I don't have to do another one? Right now, if I follow what you just told me, I should wait until the release of Android 6.0 (M) and upgrade to it then see if it solves my issues. I just hope that it won't take a long time to be pushed to my phone like it was with Android 5.0. Or your other solution is to flash the latest preview for Android 6.0 (M) on my phone and see how it goes, right?
If you've restored a ROM and lost root, and are back to 100% stock Android, then as far as I know the Android 6 upgrade will be provided over the air (OTA) and will work fine. Whether it resolves your problems is a different question. I myself tried everything to make my radio work again after the battery died, and eventually contacted Google, who were honorable enough to send me a replacement (refurbished, but effectively as good as new) which works perfectly.

That was my original plan. I called the Play Store support this week and they told me that my phone was elligible for a replacement till April of 2016. I found that weird because it would make it a 2 years and a half guarantee but at least I had my backup plan in mind. Then I called today to order a replacement and the guy told me that my guarantee expired back in November 2014 (1 year after I bought my Nexus 5, which made sense) so now I'm stuck with this one. I don't know why, but since this morning (after creating this thread), the cellular network cameback. It still drops sometimes but only for a few seconds and if not, I enable/disable the Plane mode to make it connect again. However, the battery drain, phone heat, random restart and messed up vibration issues are still present. I can deal with them however until Android 6.0 (M) gets released. The most important thing was the cellular network. We'll see tomorrow how it goes. Still awaiting tips and tricks for my other issues if anyone have some.
For the battery draining issue, I think I have the paid version of Greenify somewhere and was thinking of using it to see if it helps, even though I didn't have that issue at the beginning.
Instead of a factory reset you should try using fastboot to flash the factory image for a fresh start.

And I imagine that the factory image is still present on the device? This is what I find weird, because when I "reset" my factory to defaults, it restores it to Android 5.1.1 even though the device came with 4.x. I come from the computer field, and a Factory Reset on a computer uses the manufacturer's image present on the CD, DVD, USB or partition given with the computer to reinstall the original OS that was present on it and the OEM software as well. If the computer was eventually upgraded to Windows 8.1 and came with Windows 7, Windows 7 will be restored, not Windows 8.1. So I can understand now that a "Factory Reset" doesn't really return the device to its factory state, right?
I would guess that you've had an OTA update to 5.1.1? You would have had to actively accept it - it doesn't install itself automatically. The factory image isn't (as far as I'm aware...) on the device, it just resets components back to default values - I may be wrong about this. There's obviously no way that a Kitkat device could mysteriously upgrade itself to Lollipop in any other way than a deliberate flash or an OTA update.
I use Greenify myself and it appears to do what it claims, but I wonder if it will become unnecessary when the new Doze function comes in with Android 6. Maybe the two will complement each other for optimum battery life. Any experts out there that can comment?

And anything that's creating heat has to get its energy from somewhere, hence the battery drain. If there is a rogue app that's running even when you're not using the phone Greenify might kill it - worth a try.
And final comment (for the moment... ) - the padlock with the gap means that your bootloader is unlocked, but doesn't mean that the phone is rooted. It does however mean that the phone can accept new ROMs and can be rooted.

I did have an OTA update to 5.1.1, yes.
And I talked to one of my friend who's really into phones (used to work for Bell and he's usually the person I go to whenever I have issues with my cellphone), and he suggested me to wait until Android 6.0 comes out, and then to fastboot it on my Nexus 5 since OTA updates can be buggy sometimes. I could actually fastboot the phone right now (well tonight) with Android 5.1.1, but if Android 6.0 is to come out next week (or the one after), it might worth the wait, depending on whether or not I can keep the cellular network working. Otherwise I would have to go through 2 flashboots in 2 weeks and I can't really be bothered to do that
And I don't know where the CPU is in the Nexus 5 (I could look it up) but the zone where the heat is isn't where the battery is so there's that. However, my friend told me that the fact that my cellular network isn't working could explain why the battery is being drained so fast, but can't explain the vibrate mode and random restarts issues.
I was having battery issues on Stock ROM, but now I am using CM12.1 so battery is not draining very fast.
When I am inside my home or in some other house or building, the network disconnects very often. However, if I am outside, the network works pretty well.
The notification LED, when being configured using CM12.1 settings, shows blue color on green color selection and green color on blue color selection.
I had some of the same problems with my phone, it would reboot randomly throughout the day. With mine if I charged it overnight with it off when I turned it on in the morning it would only be at 85%. I ended up contacting LG and I paid $170 to get it fixed, they have replaced the mainboard twice so far. After the second time it had no issues, and that lasted a couple months but I have sent it back again to be fixed. If you bought the phone on a credit card they usually extend the warranty by a year, that's what I did, filed a claim and they sent a cheque for the repair cost, very simple actually. But I suspect it might be the same problem as mine, some hardware issue, especially if you've reset the phone.
Just for info, the CPU is indeed at the top rear of the phone, so this is undoubtedly where the heat is coming from.

I reckon it's a rogue app, which I hope isn't a system app, running wild - a system app will be hard to cure.
A ROM refresh is probably a good place to start, and if you can wait for Android 6.0 then why settle for less...

Using winace . Before this my pc would not recognize my device, "no drivers". But now it shows up on the pc control panel as active and found
However snap pea still cant find drivers although now it says are you fornatting your phone with only one option "yes" then it just dissappear. ... but before I downloaded adb, fast boot ... snap pea was simply saying no drivers found.... Please help. ..thank you.

Here's an update on my situation: the cellular network is back at both my house and my workplace. The way it works, it seems that it takes it a day to "adapt" itself to the location and then gives me network. So at first after the Factory Reset, I didn't have network at my house, the day after I did. Now, when I went to work on Monday I didn't have network, but when I did on Tuesday, I did. My job is an hour of road away too, and at some places on the road I don't get any network, but it happens less and less as I travel back and forth.
The random restart and overheating issue are still present however. I didn't test the notifications (on vibrate) but I will soon. As long as I have my cellular network, I don't care about the other issues, until Android 6.0 (M) gets released and I fastboot it on my phone.
Now, since I bought my Nexus 5 using a MasterCard, I remembered that they have a promotion which double the guarantee on electronics (up to a 1 year), which means that I have a 2 years guarantee on my phone. So I called LG, and they have a promotion right now, $150 to get my phone repaired by their tech center IF it can be repaired. If they can't, they send it back and gives me a 50% refund (around that number).
My current plan of action is to wait for Android 6.0 (M) to get released, flashboot it on my phone and see how it goes from there.

Alright so, I fastbooted Android 6.0 on my Nexus 5, and it seems to have done the trick. I have network everywhere now, even on the road. I still lose it from times to times (a few seconds only), but this is a "normal" behavior considering the carrier I have. The notification issue is also gone, and so does the restart issue since I didn't have it once so far. But I only fastbooted it yesterday evening so it might be too soon to say that.
Now, I still have the "overheating" issue, but it could be from me playing Fallout Shelter, I really don't know. I used to play Clash of Clans alot, and graphically speaking, I think it's more demanding than FS, but I never had that overheating effect before. One thing I noticed however is that after fastbooting Android 6.0, my battery drops real fast, even when idle. I thought that Android 6.0 was supposed to improve the battery life. I'll try to see what process, app or activity is taking the most juice out of it, but I'm sure this isn't normal.
Alright so it took me an hour to go from my house to my workplace, and my battery went from 34% to 12%, while being on standby. This isn't normal I guess. I'll need to charge it to 100% once, and then use the Battery setting to see what's taking all the juice.
Might have spoke too soon. When going to work today, I went in a room where there's usually no signal (or the signal is very weak), and lost the network. It's normal in that room so I didn't pay much attention to it, but now I'm not able to get back on the network. Even searching for the Network Operator fails. Sigh, it really looks like I'll have to send it to LG for repair. I guess I need to fastboot it first to erase all my data, because they need to use my phone to test the repairs they make?

Note edge rebooting intermittantly.

Just recently my note has been rebooting several times a day. It seems to happen while im at home on my wifi network. At work its in my pocket most of my shift, but I would know if it rebooted because my gear s would give a disconnection message.
Most recent apps updated are Google maps, Samsung Milk music, Samsung Push Service and YouTube.
I have cleared the cache partition, but the Phone still reboots.
I took the battery out for approx. 3 mins, and replaced it. Still Reboots.
I checked my micro sd card for rogue files. Still reboots.
Any ideas or suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

Well after some thought, I removed the widgets I had on my home screen, Google calendar, keep, music and poweramp, and re added them. I remember I have the same widgets on my Samsung note pro, I removed the Google now widget for a reason i cant remember, and when I tried to put it back on my home screen, it didnt work. This was after a Google now update.
Anyway, I havent had a reboot since. Not sure if this was the fix or something else, but I now have to wonder. After updates to apps that I use widgets for should I remove them and re add them?
It probably wouldn't hurt from the sounds of it.
going through the same thing, except for me, it is when my battery drops below 40%. my phone will think that it has zero battery left, and though the 5.0.1. update completely screwed battery life for the edge, there's no way that i am losing 30% in less than an hour, even with zero usage. i can't find a good combination of apps or app killers that can help the phone go into deep sleep and idle to help prolong the life. for now, i am going to back everything up with Helium, SMS Backup Pro and the Verizon Cloud to prepare for a factory reboot. i also ordered a fresh OEM battery from samsung, in case that has anything to do with it. once i perform the factory reset, if things are any better or about the same, i will update you guys.
Downgrade to Kitkat if you can.It would definitely improve the battery. Then maybe wait for Marshmallow and hope it would fix that d*mn battery issue on lollipop.

This problem is not only happening with my Edge, but for several Note 4 users I know as well. Even my 10.1 2014 edition tablet started cutting off. After not knowing what was happening I just happened to look at the reviews for a couple of apps that updated on their own within the past month. Go look at the google play services app reviews. Almost everything that is going wrong with my phone is described in the (lengthy) negative comments regarding the newest update. Lagging, cut offs...the works.
My phone shows me in the neighborhood of 20 percent. I'm on the phone with 25% and the phone cuts off. I play a youtube video and 2 second later the phone cuts off. But it is not a regular cut off like a standard recharge, it goes in to a perpetual boot loop of on and off until I put it in charge mode. Sometimes it is actually at zero percent but more often than not there is 15% there but the thing just cuts off. This is super annoying and crippling my phone experience. I have not seen an article yet (it was two weeks ago I really checked) to see if an android source picked up the story but the Google play services app commentary is virtually all 1 stars and complaints. This has got to be addressed.

Help me diagnose my overheating/battery-sucking D6616 (TMOUS)

All right. Let me start by saying I've had this phone since it first came out and until very recently it's been a great device for me. Yes I have the T-Mobile US version with a locked bootloader, which sucks as far as ROMS etc. go. Yes its GPS can be less than reliable occasionally thanks to issues with Lollipop, which we're stuck with. But everything else it did just great. The battery life was one of my favorite things about it- if I started a day with 60% it would be just fine.
Until about a month ago. About a month ago, the phone developed this <sarcasm>neat trick</sarcasm> where it would get really hot and burn through about ten percent of its battery or more in ten minutes or less.
My initial thought is that I'd have to wipe the phone and start from scratch (followed closely by rooting and loading up an Android Nougat ROM, but we all know how that's worked out for the D6616 ). But I'd really like to avoid wiping if at all possible.
Here are my working theories, let me know what you think I should do to further diagnose:
Some New App is Responsible- The obvious candidate. I installed GSam Battery Monitor to look into this, hoping to find an obvious culprit to delete. Sadly the only apps using more than 2% are whatever app I've been actively using with the screen on, Android System, Kernel (Android OS), and Google Services. I uninstalled a bunch of unneccesary apps anyway, but it didn't improve things very much.
The New York Subway System - Stay with me here, it's not entirely a joke. I live in New York City and recently all of the stations had cell service and wifi activated on underground platforms, but not between stations. So when I ride the train (a significant chunk of my day as I freelance work in clients' homes) I'm going in and out of service constantly. And things do tend to improve when I turn on airplane mode when I get on a train. But not a lot. And the overheating and battery sucking behavior does happen sometimes when I'm aboveground.
The Battery Itself- This is the one I'm most worried about because the fix just sucks. The phone is now over three years old, and I do use it pretty much every day, only turning it off at night or when I'm traveling abroad. That's a long time for a lithium battery. My understanding is that near the end of their lives, they do overheat and lose charge quickly after a while. Since this is a waterproof phone and I'm in the US, I'd have to ship it to Sony for 2-3 weeks a repair if I want to keep it's waterproofing abilites (I do). I'm betting that's not cheap. My real hesistation with this one though, is that my phone is about as old as most other people's on here, so if this were the case, I'd expect a ton of users here or on T-Mobile's forum to be complaining about the same problems. I haven't looked closely but I haven't seen many people with this problem.
So that's where I am. Any ideas? Things I should try out to get more info? I'd really like to solve this, and I'd bet figuring out on here would help others in a similar position. Thanks!
Managed to get some relief by wiping the phone. Didn't restore it to the good old days of 60%-in-the-morning-no-problem-all-day, but was decent. But now it's come up again. I can and will wipe the phone again if I have to but if there's a more elegant solution someone has found over the past 10 months or so, I'd love to hear about it.
Thought I'd solved it when the sd card died and I wiped/replaced that. But then it started having the same problems a few weeks later on a new card. I wiped the phone and the SD next and I'm still having issues. Heck, I've even had it heat up while in TWRP recovery mode, so I'm pretty sure we're looking at a hardware issue.
My first instinct would be the battery but according to the internal temp sensors, the battery isn't that hot (39 or so C). The CPU on the other hand is getting very, very hot (spikes to 72 degrees C). This tallies with what I feel on the phone looking at diagrams of the innards: the hot part is about a third of the way down from the top of the phone, where the CPU is.
Any idea what bit would have to be replaced to fix this?

Phone is painfully slow, trying to troubleshoot

So I've had a T-Mo S7 for about a year and a half now. It's incredibly slow/unresponsive and I've spent a really long time troubleshooting.
I've done full factory resets, and direct ODIN OS installs with data wipes. Whenever I do this, the phone starts out, with all current apps installed, extremely fast/responsive. I have a somewhat limited app library, and I haven't added anything since the phone slowed down noticeably.
About two months ago, the Samsung Device Maintenance app, which until then only reported battery draining, said "Some apps or processes are overloading the system (CPU)" and the app it reported was something like com.android/google.searchbar" which I assume is the google search bar widget. I thought, "awesome, the device app is actually doing something." I told it to kill the app and my phone sprung to life. My phone was super fast for a long time, but is now back to being super slow again. I searched "Apps" in device settings and can't find any apps/processes that sound anything like search bar. Also, how is there not a system resource monitor in system settings!? Clearly, an app is hogging resources, because I've experienced periods of responsiveness. Is there no direct way to figure this out without doing the safe mode process of elimination?
Can someone help shed some light or suggest further troubleshooting steps? Thanks in advance.
I got mine on black friday 2 years ago and I've been having the same issue. Of course my battery doesn't last very long being it's over 2 years old. I'm guessing it may have some.thing to do with the battery voltage being so weak after so long. I'm due for an upgrade obviously but I'd be fine using my S7 for another year if a battery replacement did the trick. I believe I was told in chat that I could go into the store and they'd only charge me $5 but I assume they'd have to send the phone out unless they just swap it out for a refurbished one. I've had no other problems with mine at all so not really the route I want to take.
Anyone else familiar with this process? Has anyone else had their battery replaced or phone swapped and notice if the fresher battery helps or is it just a symptom of it "can't" handle the newer OS properly? Any feedback would be appreciated. Hopefully it helps us both out. Didn't mean to hijack the thread!

So I promise it's not the battery because I had it factory replaced by Samsung. To answer your question, yeah you have to send it in. With the waterproofing they have to do it at a repair center. However, for me it was 100% worth it. I think I was without the phone for about 10 days. But having a brand new battery life was incredible.
Also, as I was working with the phone slow for a while, it immediately and dramatically became quick after device maintenance killed that process. But a few months later, I'm back to suuuuper slow.
The S7 is getting old. Old things slow down. It's planned obsolescence. I've gotten to the point of turning notifications off for all apps and only using badge numbers to tell me when to check something. I also use do not disturb a lot when gaming instead of game tools because game tools is another app but do not disturb is more of an internal process. As soon as my taxes come back I'm probably going to get a S8+
