Like some other player, MX player needs 'cast' function when using miracast.
Turn off the phone screen greatly increase the performance, so it is absolutely necessary when it comes to play high bitrate files, with software decoder.
Some phones can't play well when they are in miracast duplicate mode, even if the file played well before. This problem can be solved by 'Cast only', not duplicate.

Pan on Note 10.1
Please add to the bug list the pan problem on Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1, detailed in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/mx-videoplayer/svXy0vhIUOQ
Hello, thanks for this great app.
I wanted to request something I think is a great feature, but then I was happy to see it already in the high priority list.
Popup Player: https://groups.google.com/d/topic/mx-videoplayer/ws_voRX-MVc/discussion
But then I looked at the original thread and it dates back 2 years. Is there any word on development of this?
I see so many video apps successfully implement this and it seems to work wonderfully well for playing local files as well as streaming. For stress testing I even tried out large video files and heavy streams while loading up heavy apps and games and I never noticed lag or stutter, on my first generation nexus 7.
MX Player has always been my favorite android player since my nexus one, 4 years ago until today. And I would love to keep supporting it but I'm now downloading other players when I need floating video.
So I hope for some good news on development of this great feature, thanks!

auto resume on startup
Hi
This player is awesome.
Here a feature needed for android car radio. Android car player are more and more popular, a nice feature would be an option when we start the player, the last played file start automatically on resume, like a normal car cd player do. (no need to start the application automatically, there is already an application for that).
Because each time the car is turned off, all applications are stopped by the android system. of course, if you use the integrated player it resume automatically, but it does not play all format and the interface is not good enough.
Thanks!
Cedric
@AlbertAS and @xenyz please make a new forum thread for your feature requests, then link that thread here, so that it can be added to the list. With a thread for your specific request, it is easier to keep track of each item.
@xenyz added.

This is a great video player indeed, but as a car stereo app it's not ideal I'd say.. cause that's not its main purpose.
In my car I've been using PowerAmp for over 4 years now, it works great with everything you need from auto resuming to lockscreen controls etc. PowerAmp was one of the first apps to integrate all these things and still does it best imo. Although many other players have adopted the same functions.

I agree that PowerAmp is probably one of the best music player apps out there.
Apologies in advance if I'm doing this wrong.
I have MX Pro, and would like to see it brought to Google TV...namely the Sony NSZ-GS7.
It doesn't appear in the Play Store for GTV, and I have tried sideloading MX player and it offers a "not supported" message.

I enjoy watching videos that are hosted on my PC though Windows File Staring. MX Player plays them fine but does not buffer enough video to prevent hiccups in playback. This is especially true with very complex scenes in 1080p. Copying the same video to my device will play uninterrupted, leading me to believe this is an inadequate buffering issue. Pressing pause will not pre-buffer any large amount of video as the user might expect.

It's a well known issue. Since it's already listed in priority list hopefully the developer will improve it in next major version mx player v2.0

Version 2.0 huh. I was hoping this would be something that finds its way into [perhaps] the next minor update. Change some integer value from 50 to 300 and call it good.

Hello mrsdan1940: I don't understand your question. So let me gather some information to see if I can help you. Is your primary language English? Are you using the program MX Player for Android? It's a video audio media player for your mobile or tablet device.
Hi,
I'm having troubles using the stock JB Android 4.1.2 play m3u8 live streaming. Issue described in:
http://stackoverflow.com/questions/26181554/stock-android-h264-decoder-failing-on-m3u8-url-files
After some debugging, seems to me that only the "baseline profile" is supported by the stock SW codec (frameworks/av/media/libstagefright/codecs/on2/h264dec), while the stream has the entropy_coding_mode_flag set (i.e. it is a CABAC encoding - I'm not an expert about H264, but I read it's a rather different encoding scheme).
So, I was wondering if it was ever possible to entirely replace the libstagefright/codecs provided with stock AOSP with the SW codecs of MX Player, which seems to be working fine on the same m3u8 stream.s.
Any idea if ever feasble and, if so, about how to proceed?
thanks
Fabio

E.g. I was thinking if that was possible by simply hacking the codec declarations in
device/.../.../media_codecs.xml
or if a more complex code integration in AOSP is required. Note - I can rebuild AOSP for my device.
Any advice welcome, anyway.
I think its not only a matter of software, hardware must supports it.

Even if you declare, if it's not supported by your gpu then it will simply through a error.
Mx player uses the hardware decoders included with your system. If it's not supported ffmpeg is used. But, it will use the cpu to decode the video.
So, there won't be much benefits.

I know.... actually, I didn't know ffmpeg was the underlying SW decoder.
I'm afraid my HW GPU doesn't support H264 coded in CABAC. while it does decode seamlessly CAVLC (two flavors of H264 encoding... I found out.).
There will be a benefit in having SW codec, so - at least screen doesn't blank out
I noticed it takes 30-35% CPU while using SW MX Player on those streams. Still acceptable (I don't think GPU will use greatly less power). Final quality is definitely OK.
Any suggestion about how to proceed with ffmpeg codec integration in AOSP? What are the main integration points to consider?
thanks
Fabio

I'd just like to note that generally, GPU rendering reduces power consumption dramatically. For example, a SW rendered 30min video will use 25% of battery life on a Nexus 5. The same video reencoded to a GPU-supported codec will use closer to 10% battery.

I'm working on the porting of the above to my AOSP, but found issues with the integration.. There's something not going well with picture quality. Still debugging (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/android-x86/mTnTe39D5Co).
Meanwhile, let me ask here whether there's any documentation, about how to access access the MPlayer SW codecs from other apps, or AOSP libstagefright.
thanks

No matter which size, format or online url I use, the video eventually starts lagging. I have switched between HW+, HW and SW decorders as well but to no avail. I’m not allowed to either attach a file or a url as of now in this thread. I have even reduced the cpu cores to just two. I’m also using the codecs on this site for 1.9.18.2.
I’ve installed MX Player on my Sanyo Android TV running Oreo. The specs of the TV, video and player should be available from the logs. Please help me either force the player to keep caching the entire video until it’s done (if that’s the problem) or find a way to get the best possible configuration for decoding the videos. Thanks, I’m advance.

Hey Yohu,
Thanks for reaching out. Generally, this may happen due to inadequate bandwidth. If your bandwidth is good enough, the server might be throttling itself. Several online streaming apps make use of the cloud storages as an alternative to CDNs. If it is the case with you, it might be due to the bandwidth limitation on the cloud storage side.
We will be able to assist you if you can provide us with more information. Could you please collect a bug report from the app immediately after noticing the issue and contact us at [email protected] along with the details about the app used for streaming? It will help us to assist you better.

I agree. My bandwidth is a 50Mbps broadband line. I downloaded a 1080p video and played it via MS Player offline. It didn’t lag/stutter even once! Then I changed the online source from where I was streaming videos and voila! The stuttering and lagging were permanently fixed. Thank you for the quick response. This thread/issue is resolved/closed.
Even as an 5+ years' MX Player Pro user, I still struggle with the limited options available for the end of video behaviour, which are:
(a) return to the media list, or
(b) run into the next unrelated video(*).
They go well along with media junky habits. However, both options feel awkward if you want a smooth, immersive, zero distraction experience, watching nothing but this one deeply moving masterpeace, today.
There definitely should be an option that
(c) simply halts playback at the end, showing a still image of the last frame
- just as you see a still image of the first frame at the beginning, i. e. before starting playback.
I'm stunned that apparently, this natural preference is neither considered nor discussed (publicly). I would greatly appreciate if it was implented!
Thank you!
(*) with or without having to anwer a popup question
(note: I've made a similar post to the FAQ thread, it didn't get blessed with an answer.)
It's a trip no one has responded to this. I have exactly this same wish. Every other video player I've used has an option to simply stop the video at the end or repeat it. MX Play has neither option. Don't
know why.

Thanks for your valuable comments. We would like to let you know that MX Player already has the option to loop the current file. Request you to enable the loop one function from the quick shortcuts on the screen or from the play menu.
With regards to stopping it on the last frame, we regret to inform you that it is not prioritised as we found it useless in most of the common use cases and will unnecessarily keep the decoder component active. However, you can enable the "back to list option" to close the player and return to file list on completion of the playback.
Trying to get used to this app and just can't do it. As far as I can tell this app wants you to do everything within the app like start a movie for example. It doesn't work as well when starting a video from outside the app. For example clicking on a movie from say the Gallery app. After playing a video, I want it to return to the app I came from but mxplayer wants to return to it's own videos list. I have tried to get a refund but the option is no longer there in the Google Play Store. I have uninstalled this app. Can I get a refund?
Edit: Never mind, got a refund. I'm good.
