I didn't get Android Pie update yet! - Sony Xperia XZ Premium Questions & Answers

I didn't get the Pie update yet and I know it's been out for months now, I see that people with simillar issues have been advised to manually flash the Pie update but would that (excuse my ignorance here) wipe the DRM keys or whatever the issue was with rooting the XZP ?

Can anyone at least point me to a guide to flash the firmware ?

Flashing stock doesn't wipe DRM, only if you root.
-Download Flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
-Download this 47.2 fsc script https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78177369&postcount=1 (in the Flashtool app is the older 47.1 script that you need to replace with this new one) .
-Turn on USB debugging on the phone (if you don't know how-Google).
-Go to where you installed Flashtool, like C:\Program Files (x86)\Flashtool\drivers. In there you will find driver installer, run it, check Flashmode and Fastboot drivers, first two options and install.
-When you first run Flashtool, go to Devices-Devices Sync-Auto Sync-Off.
-Close Flashtool. Go to (your main System disk)\:Users\(your username)\.flashTool\devices\(your phone model number) and copy the unzipped 47.2.fsc file there, you can remove 47.1.fsc.
-Open Flashtool again, see if your phone is recognised, there will be a notification on your phone to allow access from your PC, you choose Allow.
-Click XperiFirm icon, choose your device, click "Check All" in top right corner, wait for it to finish.
-Then choose whatever "Customized" version you want that suits you, but has the latest 47.2.A.10.45 version, so no branded operator versions, they contain bloat.
-On the right you will see "Available firmware" offered, click on it-Download.
-When it's done, close that window and Flashtool will start to unpack and prepare the firmware to your drive. When that is finished, click on the thunder icon "Flash"-Flashmode-choose the firmware from the left tree menu, click on it to select it.
-Crucial step, if you choose to keep all your data and apps, don't make any changes to check boxes, leave everything as it is. But, if you're comming from Oreo or older, I strongly recommend you wiping the entire phone. In that case, check all the boxes under "Wipe-Sin" section.
-Click "Flash", follow instructions and wait for it to finish.
Either way, whatever you choose, make backups of everything just in case something goes wrong, so you don't loose your data.
Also, if you're on Win10, you will probably have to disable Driver signature enforcement before installing the drivers, if you don't already have them installed. You can google how to do that. You can try all of this without installing the drivers and all that, see if it works, but if you're on Win10, it probably won't.
Also, before you do any of this, disable your Antivirus/Windows Defender, whatever you use.
I think that's pretty much it. For further questions, refer to Google, what you should have done before even posting, there are plenty of guides on how to use Flashtool and XperiFirm.

Tutorial/Walkthrough for flashing back to stock using RSD Lite (Unrooting a rooted phone by .sbf)
Tutorial Video can be found here... kind of... very close!

The fine print: This information is provided without warranty. I can not be held responsible if you **** up. I simply wrote a walkthrough/tutorial. I did not produce the procedure or the steps. I just simply consolidated all the information into a single place with notes to make things easier to understand and execute. You are welcome to share this information anywhere you want. Please do credit me for writing it. Lastly, please link back to the original site if possible. I try to format the text in such a way that it is more easy to understand. Lastly, I ask that everyone who uses this pays it forward by helping others figure out their own phones. Now on to the procedure.
I am running Windows XP SP3/32bit.
= = =
Steps 1 and 2 can be skipped. You just need to download the latest version of the SBF file (currently 2.3.20). Link coming soon.
1. Download 2.3.20 SBF file for D2
You can find it here: http://www.iamthewalcs.com/Support-Files/Droid 2 2.3.2 SBF.zip
2. Extract the .zip file and put the .sbf file somewhere where you can easily find it.
3. Download RSD Lite 4.7. (RSD Lite 4.7 is not the same as RSD Lite 4.7.2)
[RSD Lite 4.9 works as well]
Reference: http://www.mydroidworld.com/forums/droid-2-how-tos/4393-how-sbf-flash-droid-2-a.html
RSD Lite 4.9 Here!
http://droid2files.com/tools/RSD Lite 4.9.zip
New: Download to RSDLite 4.7 with patch.
http://kimete.com/droid/RSDLite47patch.zip
There is a link to download RSD Lite 4.7 + patch here as well. Includes an installer (.msi) and the patch (.ini).
4. Install the program (rsdlite_4.7.msi) or RSDLite 4.9. Follow instructions until completion.
5. Next, extract the patch (pst_flash.ini) to the Motorola/RSD Lite folder. It'll ask you if you want to overwrite the file. Choose yes. (Don't think you need this for version 4.9, but don't quote me on that).
(My file path to place the file was: My Computer -> C Drive -> Program Files -> Motorola -> RSD Lite)
6. You'll need to have the Motorola Drivers. You probably already have them, but if you don't, you can get them here:
http://www.motorola.com/Support/US-...tware_and_Drivers/USB-and-PC-Charging-Drivers
KalenXI noted that you can't use the same Motorola drivers that you used for root from the other thread. You must use these updated drivers with MotoConnect. Thank you sir!
7. Now would be a good time to back up anything on your SD card to your computer. Plug in your Droid2 to the computer via USB cable. Pull down the notification menu/blind, choose USB connection, and then choose USB Mass Storage Device. Now there should be a removable storage in your "My Computer." Go through your SD card and back up your important things. Probably the DCIM and download folder. You should also make sure that your phone is set up to "Back Up Data." Go to the system menu (the 4 squares icon/button in the lower left), choose Settings, then Privacy, then make sure the "Back up my data" and "Automatic restore" are checked.
8. You now need to put your phone in bootload mode. In order to do so, power down your phone. Slide open your keyboard, hold the "up" key (the arrow closest to the enter button), and power on your phone. You should come up with a black background and text with something along the line of d2.35 and usb okay.
9. Now you can open RSD Lite. Go to your Start Menu, Program Files, and you should see RSD Lite. In the title of the newly open window, make sure the version is 4.7.
Edit: If you opened RSDLite and your device is not showing, you might need to open it as an admin. Go to program files/motorola/rsdlite/sdl.exe, and right cllick and run as an administrator. Reference by JonandRoid. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8000565&postcount=12
10. Wait a few minutes until your device shows in the table. It should say A955, port 1, connected, etc.
11. Toward the top of the window, there is filename/blank field. To the right of it, there is "..." button. Click it. Now find your .sbf with the open window that popped up. Select "Droid2_X6_2.2...SECURE.sbf", or the latest version of your sbf, and press open. Back to the program window, press Start (right next to the "...") Your phone should now start flashing the firmware to the phone. Just let it run it's course. It's going to reboot and start up again. You'll know when it is done when the Progress field in the table of RSD Lite says complete. This may take a little bit. Maybe 5-10 minutes.
After your phone reboots and doesn't get past the boot animation (wait at least 5 or 10 minutes),
a. Turn off your phone
b. Hold down X on the keyboard
c. Turn on your phone while continuing to hold X
d. When you get the Android guy with a '!' in a triangle push the search button on the keyboard (the magnifying glass button, two keys to the left of the space bar)
e. Select both 'wipe cache' and 'wipe data' from the menu.
f. Reboot your phone
If you do steps a-f, you probably won't need to do these following steps.
12. I do not know if this will work or not, but if it does, you guys might not need to do the rest unless you truly do want to fully factory reset your phone. This step is UNCONFIRMED.
To get back onto the Verizon Wireless network, dial *22899 and press send. It should update your phone and you'll be back on the network. (Referenced from ITGuy11 at the link below.)
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=7933189&postcount=12
13. Your phone still has everyone on it. You'll probably realize that you now have no 3G or phone service and are roaming. Now you need to Factory Reset your phone. Go to the system menu (the 4 squares icon/button in the lower left), choose Settings, then Privacy, the choose Factory Data Reset. Follow the instructions and agreeing to wipe your phone clean. It will ask you to confirm, and/or ask you to enter your security pin/security pattern. It'll reboot itself and run its course.
14. Your phone will eventually be put back to factory settings. You'll then be greeted by the new user/account wizard. Follow the directions. They'll ask you to program/update your phone, enter in some login info, and then your phone will be back to brand new, just like the day you walked out of the Verizon store, except with the BackUp Manager service, all your applications and contacts will be downloaded back onto the phone!
That's it! That wasn't so bad was it?!

This is awesome, thank you. This tutorial and your rooting instructions (with all of the extra clarification) are very helpful. I know it's not much but I am going to try to send a few bucks your way (from one poor college student to another? ).
USB debugging should also be enabled. It's found in the Settings -> Applications -> Development.

I had that same error, upgrading to the latest Motorola drivers fixed it. I'd post a link but the forums won't let me so just search for "motorola drivers" on google, go to the first link, go to "USB Drivers and PC Charging Drivers" and download the "Motorola 4.6.5 Driver with MotoConnect" drivers.

That makes sense. I got my drivers from when I installed Easy Tether. Driver files were on the phone. That's probably why it worked. So, solution to the problem is downloade the latest drivers!
I think a youtube video of this is possible. Would people be interested in that?

Do you have updated drivers? Don't quote me on this, but maybe flash one file and then flash the other?
That's what I did, I flashed the other file (successfully) and rooted. Didn't bother factory resetting or anything.

And today I was having problems, so I used the bootstrap recovery to wipe cache and data, and then sbf'd from the bootloader

How exactly do you download the device drivers? Ive tried a million times and the link given on the motorola website just keeps giving me zipped up documents. Really starting to piss me off.

You are moving in the right direction. Inside the zipped file, there is the install file, .msi, I believe, that you double click to install your drivers and MotoConnect.

First and foremost, welcome to XDA and a Happy New Year
Now that that's out of the way, let's get down to business! To answer your question, yes you can easily restore an Android version completely without a Hard Reset. Before I help you with the next question, I have a question of my own - Is the Android 4.0 version a .ftf file?

Not sure about the Android SDK way but I would recommend you download the .ftf firmware file as it's easier to flash the firmware through Flashtool. But note that you will LOSE Root access. No issues though, there are plenty of tutorials on how to root the latest firmware :cyclops:. Here's the link for Flashtool - https://hotfile.com/dl/179504132/bc8dd41/flashtool-0.9.9.0-windows.exe.html
Here's the link for the firmware: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B522s-mwpnl0NHVaaERrdGFJUUk/edit?pli=1
Take a backup of all your apps and data, it is HIGHLY recommended.
Now follow these instructions:
1.Install all the drivers for your device including ADB Drivers.
2.Enable USB Debugging by going to Settings->Applications->Development->Check USB Debugging.
3.In your PC, navigate to C:flashtoolfirmwares directory and delete all the data in that directory if any such data is present.
4.Move the exracted firmware package file (.ftf File) to the aforementioned directory.
5.Open Flashtool.
6.Click the Flash Icon which looks like a Lightning Bolt on the top left corner.
7.Select Flashmode from the options available.
8.Now select the firmware in the left-side list. There should only be one since deleted all the other files.
9.On the right-side there should be some check boxes.
10.Under the "Wipe:" option, tick all the boxes such as Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe App Log.
11.Under the "Misc:" option, tick the No final verification.
12.Now switch off your Device, but REMEMBER to keep USB Debugging ON before you switch it off.
13.Now click the OK Button on Flashtool.
14.Now hold the Back Button and connect the Device to the PC.
15.If the connection is successful, the Notification LED should be GREEN.
16.Now automatically the Flashing Process should start.
17.Once it's done, the device should automatically Re-boot. First boot should take longer than usual.
18.Once the Re-boot is finished.... Congratulations your on the latest version of ICS :victory:
Hope this was helpful :highfive:

U know to root...bt not to downgrade??
Well get a ftf of ur region and flash it using flashtool...
Hey Jstar22! The fact that someone might reply to your post was one of my beacons of hope as I searched the internet for this same information, a process which took several hours. So let me summarize it for you here. To be clear for everyone, this will work just fine on a locked bootloader; there is no need to use flashtool to unlock your bootloader in order to downgrade--if you get errors, that isn't the cause.
Edit: The XperiFirm part of this should be unnecessary if you get an ftf file of the version you want from elsewhere (say from the thread in the General section here). In this case you can skip steps 1-3 and 6-7 and modify the other steps so that you look up the ftf file.
1. Download&Install XperiFirm. A google search should bring it up easily; it's the same for all Xperia devices, so no fear of getting the wrong one.
2. Run XperiFirm. Navigate to your device model on the left. If you're on a DD6603 you probably want to sort my Market and select the only one labelled GLOBAL. When you click it the version should display on the right (should be 23.0.A.2.93; that's the one you need). As I understand it, the root exploit should work with options other the GLOBAL one too if you have a need for one, but I can't personally guarantee it. Click the version number and a dialogue will come up; uncheck "Unpack automatically" and download. If it bothers you about whether you really don't want to unpack, tell yes, you really don't want to unpack.
3. When the download is complete, you will have a folder with 4 files. Hooray!
4. Now, download&install flashtool. The internet seems to love saying this but doesn't bother to specify that it's not Sony's flashtool you want; it's the flashtool from flashtool.net.
5. Once flashtool is installed, you will have an icon for it in your start menu. By default it installs to C:\Flashtool on Windows; on Linux it will be wherever you saved it when you downloaded it. Run the program and wait for it to finish loading.
6. Go to Tools->Bundles->Fileset Decrypt. Click "..." and navigate to the folder from XperiFirm, containing the 4 files. They will appear in a menu; select them all and click the right arrow; they'll all be on the right side now. Hit "convert", and wait for it to finish.
7. A window will pop up. Double click the grey rectangle by "Device" and select your device. Put "23.0.A.2.93" for the version and "Generic GLOBAL" (or whatever you downloaded, if it wasn't the GLOBAL version) for the branding. Select all the files in the box except for the .ta files (there are only two of those), and click the right arrow. Then click "Create".
8. Make sure you have Unknown Sources (in Security) and USB Debugging (in Developer Options--if you don't have Developer Options go to About Phone in Settings, and click Build Number 7 times, and you will then have a Developer Options area in Settings) enabled. Turn your phone off. While holding the down-volume button, plug it in via USB to your computer, while flashtool is still running; flashtool should say that a device connected in flash mode. Do not let go of the down-volume button. Click the lightning bolt and select "flashmode". Select the firmware version we set up before ("Generic GLOBAL" or whatever"). Click "Flash". Don't let go of the volume down key until it's begun flashing (otherwise you may get an annoying issue where your phone "disconnects" and turns itself on). If it fails with an error about not being able to delete a file in C:\Flashtool\firmwares\prepared (or wherever you installed flashtool), delete the "prepared" folder there and try again. That was necessary for me.
9. You win. A quick Google search will bring you to the rooting thread, where bliss and long-awaited joys will overtake you.

How to fully unroot and reset your Lenovo Tab S8

Well, as most of you have seen my post and @jazzespresso on how to root your tablet, I decided to make a guide for those of you who dont know how to unroot and restore your tablet to its Out-Of-The-Box(ish) state. First of all, you need to un-root. Its simply done by opening the SuperSU app, going into the settings and tapping the full un-root option. Its that simple. Then once you are fully sure that you have unrooted the tablet, which could be done by using root checker or a similiar program. Now that root access is gone you can go ahead and start the factory image restore and it would be helpfull for those of you who are looking to go back to the 240 dpi range because something smells "super-fishy" at Lenovo's software development office. You the must download the Factory Image/Firmware from http://www.needrom.com/download/lenovo-s8-50f/ . This package should contain the flash tools and the ROM. Extract the .RAR file using 7 and install the Intel Phone Flash Tool. Make sure you install all the necessary drivers. Once completed , run the phone flash tool and go to options and check force sparsing and set it to 500mb. Then go back and click the blue button the reads "browse". Then select the extracted .ZIP which when opened, contains .ISO files. Select that file and then wait for the Flash tool to extract it. Then plug in your tablet and click "Start to flash". Make sure USB-Debugging is enabled for better results. A PC is required for this operation(s). And Thats pretty much it. I already know that jazzespresso did this topic but I only did it to include the superfish joke

Thank you for helping other members. For the next "guide" it was great if you make a step-by-step guide instead of one big text. Its much easier to read and follow the instructions then

[TUT][ROOT+CWM+GAPPS]InFocus M512 Root, CWM and GApps tutorial.

So there is a bargain chinese 4G phone called the 'InFocus M512'.
The problem with it is that it comes without Google Apps and also is not rooted (sometimes is). Also it does not have CWM Recovery.
So this quick tutorial shows you how to root, install CWM Recovery and install google apps on the M512.
I'm not responsible for any damage
Rooting:
Method 1
1.Go to settings>>Security>>Check Unknown Sources tap OK.
2.Download this file.
3.Install
4.Run and tap 'get root' or somthing like that.
5.Delete KingRoot and some chinese app, but DO NOT DELETE KingUser!
6.Done!
Method 2
Flash CWM Recovery using the 2nd method from this post. If you have rooted usign the first method use method 1 from that post.
Download UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip (i used 2.46)
Reboot into CWM.
Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select UPDATE-SuperSU-x.xx.zip, press power button
Reboot now
GApps
1.Download this zip file
2.Reboot into CWM.
3.Select Install zip>choose zip from /sdcard>select the file, press power button
4.Reboot now.
How to delete KingUser (only if you have SuperSU and it is working)
Download ES File explorer, enable root explorer, go to /system/app and delete KingUser.
So this is how to get root, cwm and gapps on the m512.
First Method no good for me
I put the kingroot file in the adb tools folder and used the install command. It wasn't clear from the above whether the phone needed to be in recovery or some other mode so I tried a few times, in recovery mode and again just connected as an mtp device in the normal way. Either way the result was the same, it said "Invalid APK File: KingRoot.......".
I will have a go at the CWM thing next.
I am still on the 103A ROM that the phone came to me with - I have been trying, on and off, without success to update and then root it , for months.
When trying to flash an update ROM it tells me that the update package has unexpected contents and the there is an error in the update file and then says "Status 7". You can read all about my lack of success on this forum under the threads M512 started by Galaxy Why.
I'm trying, I really am....
Let me start by saying thanks for making the effort to post what you know and so to help people like me, however.
I tried to follow the method 2 (as I don't have root) from your other post (the one linked to above with the words "the 2nd method from this post" but got stuck.
Your instructions in normal my comments in italics.
Method 2: (No root)
1.Connect your phone via USB to your PC. OK
2.Enable MTP. OK
3.Enable USB Debugging. Settings>Developer Options> tick USB Debugging. OK
4.On your computer, 2 drives will appear: One of them is a CD-Rom which contains all drivers. OK
5.Click on that CD-Rom and it will install all drivers. It doesn't, or it may do, but what it definately does is asks me to put a disc in the drive and tries to do some kind of dir_all in windows explorer - I would post a screenshot here but this page only allows URL's- and I'm not sure how to go about that.. but I think I've managed to upload a screenshot....
After waiting for 5 minutes or so to see if something would happen as the green progress bar ground to a halt but the busy circle continued I hit the cancel button on the "please insert a disc dialogue" and then ploughed on anyway ....
6.Plug phone in again. Now this had me confused, I assume you mean unplug AND THEN plug the phone in again.
7.Download the .ZIP file and extract it somewhere. Which/what zip file do you mean exactly?? I couldn't get past this.
8.Click on _install_cwm_6.0.5.1.cmd
9.Your phone will ask you something, just tick "always allow from this computer" and hit OK.
10.Your phone will reboot into DL Mode, then it will reboot again.
11.Recovery is installed.
It's late and I'm tiring so sorry if missed something obvious. Any advice?

Looks like you don't have a adb driver
And... why do you want to root your phone? Installing CWM is not root required.
M512 comes with a unlocked bootloader, just boot into bootloader and you can flash anything you like.
I made a customized stock rom based on version 2280, bloatwares removed and Google Play framework included. (You can download the apps back from Play Store, if you needs those)
Now the phone has 2.09GB free spaces :victory:
If you were interested on it, I can upload it and give you a link.

I am interested in the custom rom you made for this phone. There's so little info on this model.
