[Q] Sony Ericsson sk17i (Issue Resolved) - General Questions and Answers

I rooted my phone some time ago, and can't upgrade the version anymore it's stuck on android 2.3.4.
Is it possible to completely reinstall an android version without the use of a hard reset? because a hard reset won't work..
I do have a android 4.0 version on my laptop, but i only don't know how to put it on my phone.
If you need more info about my phone i will do my best to post it here.

First and foremost, welcome to XDA and a Happy New Year
Now that that's out of the way, let's get down to business! To answer your question, yes you can easily restore an Android version completely without a Hard Reset. Before I help you with the next question, I have a question of my own - Is the Android 4.0 version a .ftf file?

Not sure about the Android SDK way but I would recommend you download the .ftf firmware file as it's easier to flash the firmware through Flashtool. But note that you will LOSE Root access. No issues though, there are plenty of tutorials on how to root the latest firmware :cyclops:. Here's the link for Flashtool - https://hotfile.com/dl/179504132/bc8dd41/flashtool-0.9.9.0-windows.exe.html
Here's the link for the firmware: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B522s-mwpnl0NHVaaERrdGFJUUk/edit?pli=1
Take a backup of all your apps and data, it is HIGHLY recommended.
Now follow these instructions:
1.Install all the drivers for your device including ADB Drivers.
2.Enable USB Debugging by going to Settings->Applications->Development->Check USB Debugging.
3.In your PC, navigate to C:flashtoolfirmwares directory and delete all the data in that directory if any such data is present.
4.Move the exracted firmware package file (.ftf File) to the aforementioned directory.
5.Open Flashtool.
6.Click the Flash Icon which looks like a Lightning Bolt on the top left corner.
7.Select Flashmode from the options available.
8.Now select the firmware in the left-side list. There should only be one since deleted all the other files.
9.On the right-side there should be some check boxes.
10.Under the "Wipe:" option, tick all the boxes such as Wipe Data, Wipe Cache, Wipe App Log.
11.Under the "Misc:" option, tick the No final verification.
12.Now switch off your Device, but REMEMBER to keep USB Debugging ON before you switch it off.
13.Now click the OK Button on Flashtool.
14.Now hold the Back Button and connect the Device to the PC.
15.If the connection is successful, the Notification LED should be GREEN.
16.Now automatically the Flashing Process should start.
17.Once it's done, the device should automatically Re-boot. First boot should take longer than usual.
18.Once the Re-boot is finished.... Congratulations your on the latest version of ICS :victory:
Hope this was helpful :highfive:

DISCONNECT ALL OTHER REMOVABLE DEVICES CONNECTED WITH YOUR PC...
HAVE YOU FOLLOWED ALL THE STEPS AS DESCRIBED IN THE THREAD? AND DOWNLOADED ALL THE FILES FROM THIS THREAD ONLY??IF NOT SIMPLY DOWNLOAD THEM FROM HERE AND PLS FOLLOW ALL THE STEPS STRICTLY AS GIVEN IN THE POST..

What does more than one emulator means?
I don't have any other removable device connected to my pc, and yes, I downloaded all the files from this thread only. What else can I do? Where am I missing out?

Emulator is a hardware or software used for duplication of behavior of main system to host system.
In short your pc is main system here and device is emulated system.
I think you should than turn on usb debugging and set device as media storage and try.
IF YOU ARE STILL UNABLE TO ROOT THEN TELL ME AND I HAVE ANOTHER METHOD FOR YOU. cheers.

YOUR PROBLEM IS SIMPLY THIS THAT PRE- LOADER DRIVERS FOR YOUR PHONE ARE NOT PROPERLY INSTALLED IN YOUR PC. That's why sp flash tools is unable to connect to your phone and flash recovery.and so there is no progress.
TO INSTALL PROPER DRIVERS GO TO THIS THREAD.
Link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370906
And i know that the method i suggested is to root jellybean but it works fine on ics also ( but you cannot root jellybean via ics method)
**After installing proper drivers try again the above mentioned method and it should work.
And regarding that message... it will always come because all the images required to flash a new firmware are not properly loaded.
Ignore it because you are after all not flashing a whole new firmware but simply recovery in your phone.
Best if luck.

I have already been into that link since even I thought that I'm having driver issues but my device is included under adb in device manager and when I tried to update the drivers, it said that the best drivers are already installed.
I'm lost in a limbo, don't know what to do.

Ok My last suggestion.
Remove all the connected device(dongles, bluetooth device) from your comp except your mobile with Usb debugging on.
restart your comp.
now place it in C drive(just for caution) or if it was on C drive move it to another drive.
Now try to root if it doesn't root.
Try frameroot.

WARNING! ONLY USE THIS ON THE GT-I9195 MODEL!
Hello all S4 Mini owners!
I'm happy to finally release ClockworkMod recovery and an insecure kernel for the GT-I9195. With these two installed on your device, obtaining root is easy.

•Odin_v3.09.zip (if don't have it already)
•recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serranoltexx.tar.zip
• GT-I9195_RootKit_v2.zip
Extract recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serranoltexx.tar.zip file to your computer.
The procedure is as:
1.Copy the "GT-I9195_RootKit_v2.zip" to your device SD card.
2.Turn off the phone.
3.Press and hold home, volume down and power. Download screen should appear.
4.Connect USB cable, and press volume up.
5.Start Odin, uncheck "F. Reset Time", and then click AP button.
6.Select "recovery-clockwork-6.0.3.7-serranoltexx.tar.md5" file that you previously extracted, and press Start button. The phone will reboot when finished.
7.After the phone resets (it vibrates) IMMEDIATELY hold volume up and home buttons to boot into recovery mode.
8.Select the option to install the ZIP file you have previously copied to your device and begin flashing it.
9.After flashing using CWM, reboot into system and enjoy your rooted device.

How to root the Samsung galaxy tab 4 7.0 T230NU

make sure you backup all your important data before proceeding with this guide. I am not responsible for what happens to your device.
If your looking to root your galaxy tab 4 T230NU, follow these easy steps to gain root access.
1. Download all 4 files below. If you already have samsung usb drivers installed, skip step 2.
2. Extract your driver installation file and click the setup file for your samsung tab, and click Next. Now select your language and country, and click Next. Then, pick your install location and click Install. If you prefer to leave your install location default, just proceed by clicking Install.
3. After you have installed your samsung drivers, put the SuperSU file you downloaded earlier onto your tablet's internal/external memory. Now, extract Odin3_V3.09.zip and open the application. Now, put your tablet in download mode by holding down Power, Vol Down, and Home. You should see a blue box appear at the top left of the Odin page. After you successfully entered your tablet into download mode, untick Auto Reboot, and F. Reset Time in Option. Now, click AP, and locate your TWRP file you downloaded earlier, but do not click start yet.
4. Once you click start, Odin will begin flashing your custom recovery. Do not let your tablet boot up by turning off your tablet, or your stock recovery will overwrite TWRP. Once you turned off your tablet, enter TWRP by holding down Power, Vol Up, and home. After you booted into TWRP, click Install and locate your Supersu zip, and flash it. Once the flashing is complete, go back and select Reboot, then select system. Now you have root! Please give a thumbs up if this method worked for you.
Been Waiting for this but stuck
Thank you for this post! I'm anxious to get it going, but I'm a newb to Samsung, Odin, etc., so I need a little more detail. I'm pretty sure I installed the openrecovery file, but now the tablet is back up and I have no idea how to download the SuperSU file. I can't find "install" as you've described. I'm I installing it by selecting something on the device? I dragged the file onto the tablet....please be a specific as you can for a blonde, old lady newb lol

All you need to do is reboot into TWRP by holding down Power, Vol Up, and Home. After you have booted into TWRP, click install and locate the SuperSU file on your tablet. Let me know if you run into any more problems. :good:
I added a part in step 3, saying to put the SuperSU file onto your tablet's internal/external memory before you flash TWRP onto your tab.

I didn't see that. Well, this thread has more thorough directions in case someone needs a little more info on how to root this tab. But thanks for the link.
I did everything that you said to do and I mean everything step by step and I flashed SuperSU and when I pushed reboot after everything was done and I opened root checker to see if I did it. It said it has not been properly done and I also tried a different app and that one said the tablet has not been Rooted please help. email me with any answers please @ [email protected] any help would be greatly appreciated.

Once the flashing is complete, go back and select Reboot, then select system. Now you have root! Please give a thumbs up if this method worked for you.

ordered a manufacture refurbished tab 4 T230NY from amazon says it comes with 4.4 another customer says theres recently updated to 5.1.1 will this method work if i update to 5.1.1? I would rather have lollipop without installing a rom

I didn't get Android Pie update yet!

I didn't get the Pie update yet and I know it's been out for months now, I see that people with simillar issues have been advised to manually flash the Pie update but would that (excuse my ignorance here) wipe the DRM keys or whatever the issue was with rooting the XZP ?
Can anyone at least point me to a guide to flash the firmware ?

Flashing stock doesn't wipe DRM, only if you root.
-Download Flashtool http://www.flashtool.net/downloads.php
-Download this 47.2 fsc script https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=78177369&postcount=1 (in the Flashtool app is the older 47.1 script that you need to replace with this new one) .
-Turn on USB debugging on the phone (if you don't know how-Google).
-Go to where you installed Flashtool, like C:\Program Files (x86)\Flashtool\drivers. In there you will find driver installer, run it, check Flashmode and Fastboot drivers, first two options and install.
-When you first run Flashtool, go to Devices-Devices Sync-Auto Sync-Off.
-Close Flashtool. Go to (your main System disk)\:Users\(your username)\.flashTool\devices\(your phone model number) and copy the unzipped 47.2.fsc file there, you can remove 47.1.fsc.
-Open Flashtool again, see if your phone is recognised, there will be a notification on your phone to allow access from your PC, you choose Allow.
-Click XperiFirm icon, choose your device, click "Check All" in top right corner, wait for it to finish.
-Then choose whatever "Customized" version you want that suits you, but has the latest 47.2.A.10.45 version, so no branded operator versions, they contain bloat.
-On the right you will see "Available firmware" offered, click on it-Download.
-When it's done, close that window and Flashtool will start to unpack and prepare the firmware to your drive. When that is finished, click on the thunder icon "Flash"-Flashmode-choose the firmware from the left tree menu, click on it to select it.
-Crucial step, if you choose to keep all your data and apps, don't make any changes to check boxes, leave everything as it is. But, if you're comming from Oreo or older, I strongly recommend you wiping the entire phone. In that case, check all the boxes under "Wipe-Sin" section.
-Click "Flash", follow instructions and wait for it to finish.
Either way, whatever you choose, make backups of everything just in case something goes wrong, so you don't loose your data.
Also, if you're on Win10, you will probably have to disable Driver signature enforcement before installing the drivers, if you don't already have them installed. You can google how to do that. You can try all of this without installing the drivers and all that, see if it works, but if you're on Win10, it probably won't.
Also, before you do any of this, disable your Antivirus/Windows Defender, whatever you use.
I think that's pretty much it. For further questions, refer to Google, what you should have done before even posting, there are plenty of guides on how to use Flashtool and XperiFirm.

Thanks a lot for your detailed response, I've already found a guide to flash the firmware through newflasher, is there a difference between two methods ?

How to root SM-J337P? Android 9

I have been searching the internet for days now and I haven't found a single way to root samsung SM-J337P Android 9 I hope to have some feedback on this site
Ive been looking to do the same for the last couple of months now & haven't had a bit of luck finding anythng or having any tried methods turn out successful
Root is fairly simple using Magisk pre patched method.
As for TWRP. Seems no one has bothered yet.
If there is a warrant for it I'll look into it, but I don't have as much enthusiasm nowadays as there seems to be a hit and run nature now on XDA.
I can't even get any feedback half the time.

tell me about it man. they even let me be a mod!! they must be hard up!! I had better button my lip, dont want any senior mods to think im attempting a mutiny LOLOLOL
it used to be back in the day that people would just accomplish stuff that the mfg said was impossible just to piss them off. Not because they wanted to do anything nefarious with the new found ability, just to poke a stick in their eyes! Man, i miss the OG Evo 4G days
@Androidhelper77 @poppas210 sorry, didnt mean to threadjack, but the root method is available, it just takes some reading of the threads to get there
Thank u

This is probably obvious, but what do you mean by "pre patched method?"
EDIT: Nevermind, I figured out what you mean.
Ok, for anyone else who stumbles accross this thread, here's the steps:
Prerequisites:
- Samsung USB Drivers
- Patched Odin flashing tool. v. 1.13 or later. (Mine is v3.13.1_3B_PatcheD) (You might not need the patched one. It's just what I happened to use.) You do indeed need the patched one.
- Stock firmware img (To find version: Settings > About phone > Software version)
1. Activate developer mode.
- Settings > About Phone > Software Information
- Click "Build Number" repeatedly until it says "Congratulations! You are a developer!"
2. Enable USB Debugging and authorize computer.
- Settings > Developer Options > USB Debugging
3. Disable screen lock: Settings > Lock Screen > Screen lock type > None
4. Remove any Google or Samsung accounts: Settings > Accounts and backup > Accounts
5. Unlock boot loader WARNING: THIS WILL ERASE YOUR DEVICE
- Settings > Developer Options > OEM Unlocking
6. Copy the stock farmware img to your phone. You want the file that starts with "AP"
7. Install Magisk Manager by going to the magisk manager website on your phone and hitting "Download Magisk Manager" button and installing the app. The first time you open it, it will need to do additional setup and reboot your device.
8. Open Magisk Manager and select "Install" next to "Magisk." Click Install again, and then click "Select and Patch a File"
9. Select the firmware img you just copied to the phone.
10. Wait for process to complete. (Writing: system.img.lz4 takes a minute)
11. When Magisk Manager says "All done!" close it.
12. Copy the file called "magisk_patched.tar" from your phone to your computer. It should be found in your phone's internal memory "Download" folder.
13. Turn off the phone
14. Open Odin on PC
15. Boot phone into Odin mode: With the phone powered off, press and hold Vol-, Home, and Power until the blue warning screen appears, and then press Vol+ to enter Odin mode.
16. Your phone should appear in Odin on your PC
17. Click the AP button and select the "magisk_patched.tar" file.
18. Click "Start" and then DON'T TOUCH ANYTHING!
19. When the process is complete, a boc in Odin should say "PASS!" and be green. Your phone will reboot. (It will take longer than normal.)
20. Close Odin
21. Initial phone setup. Blah blah...
22. After initial setup, you may get a notification on your phone warning you of unauthorized changes. (Duh.) Just select it and hit cancel.
23. Install Magisk Manager on your phone again (repeat step 6)
24. After a reboot, open Magisk Manager again and it should say "Magisk is up to date."
You are done! Enjoy root access!

You're going to want the file that starts with 'AP'. It should be the biggest one. (Mine is about 2.5 GB)

No, I don't think you need to extract anything from it. Just remove the .md5 extension, and Magisk should be able to patch it.
For example, my file is named "AP_J337PVPS4BSI5_CL16191886_QB26045544_REV00_user_low_ship_meta_OS9.tar.md5" so I will remove the .md5 ext leaving me with "AP_J337PVPS4BSI5_CL16191886_QB26045544_REV00_user_low_ship_meta_OS9.tar" which is copied to the phone.

But even after rooting it still not unlock using the software magic thunder which say it unlock it but still not seeing that it is unlock when I put in another sim, just showing invalid sim. so am stuck again. magic thunder was asking for root permission and not that its root am still unable to unlock it. Just wondering if you have any ideas or knowledge on this unlocking this device.

It sounds like what you're looking for is a "carrier unlock," but I don't know anything about doing that. Good luck.

The Best explanation / instructional video I've found so far is: h ttps://youtu.be/BOfv0F12gSI
But, TWRP does not have FW for j3topeltespr. And firmwar.mobi misidentified phone as galaxy j7 2016.
Two and a half days of reading and tubing and have better understanding but not much progress.
