How do I force a default app when no link exists? (File explorer) - General Questions and Answers

Hi there, very basically I want to use Solid Explorer as my default file explorer app but no defaults exist in either the default manager or Solid Explorer.
The device is a rooted Lenovo YT3-X50F (Yoga tab 10) running Android 6/AEX. It has TWRP.
I have tried third party apps that manage default apps and as none detect the file manager association, they don't offer it up as an option to change. Some apps allow me to select Solid Explorer via the sidebar in "documents", the default file explorer.
The reason I want to do this is because some apps need access to /root and the default file manager does not browse root.
Any ideas would be appreciated.

Confused

I've flashed a cm rom on my phone and I was just wondering how I move my files to the recovery menu now as I don't have a 'my files' app on my phone??
Sent from my GT-I9100 using XDA
In every ROM there is (or there should be) a file explorer, but if you want to move file from sd to system you must have root permissions and a specific app that can do it (as Root Explorer from google plays).
Download any file manager from Google Play. If you want to access the root features of it you should download root file explorer.

Please use proper grammar/spelling.
You can close apps by double tapping the home button and sliding up on an application. There isn't a built-in feature to clear the memory as far as I know, you'd need a task manager app for that, but I wouldn't suggest that. Just close whatever apps you don't want running by double tapping Home and let Android manage the memory.
There isn't a built in file manager, but you can install one from the Market. File Manager, ES File Explorer File Manager, ASTRO File Manager, and Root Explorer are all good. Personally I use Root Explorer which is $3.99, but a lot of people like ES File Explorer which is free.
You can get to the application manager by going to Settings then Apps, it's the 7th option from the bottom.

[Q] Looking for a file manager able to change permission automatically.

Hi, everybody. I have been looking for a file manager with the auto-permission-modification function for a long time. (yeah I invented this name : p)
This is the function that will automatically change the permissions of the files copied to the system partition.
e.g. If you copy a file from the user folder to system folder(e.g. /system/fonts), usually you have to modify its permissions to make system recognize the file and to avoid breaking your device. Therefore, it would be decent if a file manager could handle that automatically!
AFAIK FX Explorer is the only app with such function. I was wondering if there were any other app with this function.
P.S. FX is great in every aspect, I just do not like the left-margin-slide panel.
I was using FX sometime ago, but I didn't really appreciate the UI. That's why I switched to stock file manager.

Third party file browsers - installing apps

Hi, what am I doing wrong? I wanted to install apk file from the Solid Explorer but it said "Error" even if I enabled installing the unknown apps via this file browser. I had to used the default browser installed in oneplus 6. Is this behavior right or am I missed something?

1) apk is damaged or cannot install
2) Solid Explorer does not have permission to install APK
- Check in Settings\Apps\Application list\Solid Explorer\Install unknown apps - Need to be set on allowed
Apk is not damaged. I have tried two apps which waren't installed by Solid Explorer, but were installed by default browser. And Solid Explorer has permission. Adding screenshots about permission and installing from each browsers.

I have same issue with solid explorer. I think we have to wait for a fix from solid explorer dev.
Ok then. I have written a message to devs, just for sure.
I have been using Root Explorer for the last 6 years including my current OP6. No issues of installing APK.

Fixed by long pressing an apk file, selecting “open with” then selecting package installer. After this it works fine afterwards.

Stock Android Files app has Download icon and keeps crashing

I have a rooted OP6 with Oxygen OS 11.1.1.1 and after messing around in the Terminal and deleting system apps I don't use, my Files app suddenly had a Download icon. It also crashes upon launch. How do I fix this? I can't just switch to another file manager because the stock Files app gives the permission to other File managers to access /sdcard/Android/data and /sdcard/Android/obb which I need to access frequently. Total Commander and File Manager + both had issues accessing the folder with root permissions even when accessing the folder using /data/media/0/Android/ . The only way that works without any issues is accessing it through TWRP's built in file manager, but that is long and has it's own drawbacks (eg. TWRP can't make folders).
