Display manufacturer - Xiaomi Poco F1 Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi again.
This time I'll touch into a very frustrating matter for the new users of poco f1. because of how the hardware test app on the new miui versions don't show the manufacturer of the lcd panel.
From what I've asked my friends it seems that the global versions ship with low quality displays such as ebbg panels and the models which got launched at first have the better tianma panels.
Its been like this for 3 of my friends 2 of them had the tianma panel because they were using the initial models and one of them had the global version.
So if you were thinking of overclocking your lcd you should choose the 65 hz option if you have the global version because ebbg panels and others are not that good in terms of quality.
To be honest ive tried the 65hz even then it had some weird glitch artifacts on the screen so i would advise you to stay at 60hz.
And if you are using the global version you should stay updated in terms of touch drivers and if you are not using the global try to use the old drivers.
Hope this helped you.

I have NVT screen and i never had problems even with 70hz, batch from 11
Also never use old driver cuz that's ruining your screen

my pocophone F1 Global is a 2018/10 Lot and use Tienma fhd nt36672a display... never heard of other display type...

Pocophones have been supplied with 3 LCD panels - EBBG, BOE and Tianma.
From what I've gathered so far- Tianma are superior since these are most likely LTPS IPS panels, while BOE/EBBG are regular IPS panels. Meaning - Tianma panels are consuming much less energy.
This is why some of the Pocophone users can easily surpass even 16 hours of SOT (without gaming, just watching youtube, movies, listening to the music, etc. with Wifi AND LTE data always enabled) while others can't get even past 8-12 hours (BOE/EBBG panels) in pretty much the same use-case scenarios.
You can find some Pocophone panel comparisons on youtube. In these videos EBBG has a yellowish tint (whites are yellow/brownish) and is overall darker, while BOE and Tianma are much brighter and also have much better color reproduction. Also - on these videos Tianma panels have no issues when it comes to touch detection on the edges, while BOE have some issues near top/bottom of the screen.
That's also why you can find conflicting opinions when it comes to the screen of Pocophone, in different reviews that are available on the internet. Some of them say that the screen of the Pocophone is mediocre at best, while other say that it's very good in its class, for the price. There are also different numbers when it comes to the measured brightness.
These reviewers got different Pocophones with different panels.
By going through the kernel notes of different custom kernels on XDA forums you can gather that Tianma screens can be overclocked up to 70 Hz, while BOE/EBBG are more limited (up to 65 Hz).
You've said that Tianma panels have been supplied initially and are not being supplied anymore. I can't confirm that information. My Pocophone (with Tianma panel) was manufactured in 2018-10. You can find the date at the bottom right side of the sticker which is located at the back of the original phone box.
When it comes to checking the panel model - you should be able to do that by going into: Settings->About phone->Full specification. Then touch the "kernel version" several times.. It should get you into the diagnostic mode.
There you should be able to pick the first available option - "Check version info". Next - just scroll down at the bottom and there you will find "LCM Information", in my case it says: "dsi tianma fhd nt36672a video display"

Just to add more recent infos My poco 6/128 Global Version manufactured 01/2019 have Tianma panel, perfect backlight but I can say sometimes fails when trying to type fast, it's not a problem with edges but seems more a problem with touch input recognition that is not uniform among the panel

In the new versions of the miui the option to see it is gone the only way to figure it out is by using root
And when it comes to your answer I've never said anything like
" this is the truth "
So this is just a conclusion I've came up with to help others who insist on not rooting.
From the results of my investigation this was the conclusion I've ended up with.
And if you've read it carefully you can see that i've said that me and my friends all had the global version. So this is just a conclusion based on me and my friend's experience.
Edit: mine was manufactured in 2019.01 just you let you know.

I haven't said that you did. Just that I can't confirm that Tianma panels have been used only initially (Tianma panels are also being used in the new Redmi Note 7) .
And I agree - it's good to exchange the information, by having more of these comments coming from different Pocophone users, we can get a better view on how Xiaomi is operating when it comes to using very different phone components in the same phone model.
I'm not trying to discourage that, it's just the opposite.
The other phones, like Xiaomi Redmi 6 are also using different panels from EBBG, BOE and Tianma.
Edit: mine was manufactured in 2019.01 just you let you know.

You can also try to enter: *#*#64663#*#* using your dial pad. It should bring up the same QC test menu. Check it out.

Use Device HW info app to check the panel manufacturer..

Nice write-up, all good to know - surprised that nobody else has liked the post. I checked and found I have a Tianma display so yay (imported mine on launch day, dunno about manufacture date).
Also concretely puts to rest the "But I don't have touch problems in PUBG so it's not a design flaw but might be software issue" arguments.

Like i said in the new versions of the miui specifically beta versions the qc test menu doesn't show the display info like i said I've rooted my device and loaded pe for my taste and have a custom kernel I've just wanted to give my opinions on it for the users who want their devices to stay unrooted like you said. And I've said it before but I'll say it again i have the ebbg panel it's not like I'm not satisfied. For the price I'm more than satisfied with the poco.

Like you said the touch problems are software related some users reported that the new versions of the miui/firmware with the new touch drivers had problems such as touch lag multi touch not working and recent reports from the users are good poco team has kept their promise and fixed the issues so it should be okay for the users to flash the new firmware/miui updates without worrying.
And from what you are saying my conclusion got stronger the ones from launch mostly have the tianma panels and I'm gonna say it again this is not going to be true for every launch manufactured poco but if you are frustrated you can probably rest relieved because most likely you have one of the best panels poco f1 has shipped with.
@CosmicDan And thx for the reply I'm happy that users got what they wanted.
Edit: New reports from my friends show that the newly manufactured ones mostly have the nvt panels instead of tianma especially for the 64gb versions all the low quality panels stay the same.

It's generally same.

Tianma is LCD display ; NVT is touch panel

I am not using the Poco phone but the redmi note 7. I have the same tianma panel as some of the users of f1 do.
Seems to be also facing a touch latency problem. Any fixes yet other than custom roms.?

Screen issue? (uneven brightness/darkness)

My OP6 have this uneven lighting on my screen. It is visible when you have a dark grey background, in a dark room, and the brightness is on 5%-10%. It's also visible when you open up chrome app and close all the tabs until you got nothing but a dark background and a + for new tabs. Is this normal? Or should I RMA it?

Here you go
I don't think that's normal at all. At least my OP6 doesn't have that. The brightness is even across the entire screen.
Normally the issue only have Huawei and the LG OLED Panels.
OnePlus 6 have an SAMSUNG Super AMOLED Display, and there is no issue with uneveness Display in low brightness.
Can anyone else confirm this if it's normal or not? Please try again and use this image i attached. The uneveness is quite visible with it.
Go in a dark room.
Full screen it (make sure there's no other bright elements are showing).
And lastly, set your brightness to about 10%.
Please tell me it's normal :/
*edit. Funny, can't seem to upload the pic.
Welp.

@aserate: I have the same issue. I tested it yesterday and saw some lines and uneveness.
Im happy, that I bought the OP6 from Amazon. Now I give the OP back and buy the Mi Mix 2S without AMOLED.
Only Samsung build AMOLED Display without uneveness and lines. I tested the screen from Mate 10 Pro, P20 Pro, Google Pixel 2 XL, LG V30, OP 5T,...
All of these smartphones had a problem with the OLED / AMOLED Displays.
Im wondering, that the user, who test the phone for YouTube or a mobile site, dont see the bad screen.
I bought the Mate 10 Pro 3 times ans the P20 Pro 2 times from different stores. All the devices had a bad screen.
I hate the UI from Samsung, that is why I only buy now smartphones without AMOLED, only IPS or Super LCD.
I don't have this issue. I checked 5 different OP6 units and all were ok. Only one had some slight uneven brightness, but not as visible as on your picture.
Appreciate your feedback. I guess i have to rma this since it's clearly an issue. Praying the replacement won't have this. Sad to know after watching linus' op factory tour with all that quality checking and stuff, common issue such as this still exist. Welp.
There is a way to completely deactivate the top part of the display to completely hide notch. But I don't want clock on the left of the notch I want it on both. There is a way?

Rubbish? I´d tested all of the phones:
- S8 & S8+
- S9 & S9+
-Note 8
All of them don´t had any display issues.
I´d tested:
- Mate 10 Pro
- P20 Pro
All of them had uneveness and lines on the OLED Display
I´d tested now:
- OnePlus 6
THis phone has uneveness, too.
Now I have OnePlus 5T and this phone has a perfect OLED display.
If I have the chance, to get a samsung phone with OnePlus Oxygen OS, I would like to swap asap!

i rest my case as you said all are perfect this proves other wise
Got the same issue. Also on my fourth device already because of loose alert sliders. my fourth device has a loose alert slider and an uneven screen. right side is darker than the left side and its noticable in dark menus, notification shade etc on low brightness
No problems for me here in terms of uniformity.
Great panel, but I wish the calibration was better:
- calibration too cold
- oversaturated
- gamma way too high
- black crush
I had this problem in 2 Oneplus 6. I made a RMA and got a new unit, without the banding, but a defective corners (a white glow in dark images). So I got another one, finally a perfect unit.
The other one was purchased via amazon, with the same banding issue, so I got an exchange.
All of them were red Oneplus 6.
The OP customer service was very helpfull resolving the problem. I give a 10 to them.
Anyone can check the screen with this images or an app called oled tools. You need a dark enviroment and low brightness
Im kind of hestitant to replace since im on my fourth device already and dont feel like waiting anymore. Thinking about returning and waiting for the 6t. Id have to use my galaxy s5 for a few extra months though...
I just received my replacement unit 2 days ago, I was waiting for it for almost a MONTH. Unfortunately, I still have the screen issue. I can't believe I was waiting for nothing. While waiting for the replacement, I only used a f***ing keypad phone, and it was really hard for me. Have I known this issue is fairly common, I haven't RMA'd my unit just to have a big chance to have the same issue again.

Should I get a Pixel 3a after a Sony Compact?

Hello, I have different questions on this device and I would be really thankfull if someone can answer at some of them.
I come from xperia xz2 compact which overall is great but app side looks outdate. No gesture system and sony apps are the same of two years ago.
I know the Pixel is bigger but I don't see any real alternative now. So here come my questions...
It's my first OLED. Is it true that they not last as long as LCD? I hope to use this phone for 2 years at last.
Does this pixel get all the updates and features of newer pixels? All base apps get updated?
Can I disable some of the google apps like I do on other phones?
Can I remove the google search on home or the pixel launcher is not giving me choice?
Does the kernel get higher over time or like other phones it get stuck on the release one?
Is there anything weird about pixel that you don't usually get on other phones?
Yeah I know that the cpu is a downgrade. But maybe I care more to get fresh software.
Thank you so much if you spend time to give me some hint.

I've been using this smartphone for 6 months now and my previous one was a Sony Xperia XZ2 , so it's basically the same situation as yours.
I always loved Sony smartphones and I keep doing it, but Pixels are on a totally different level, I would suggest the upgrade.
Anyway, to answer to your questions:
-It's my first OLED too, but I doubt it will last less than 2 years
-Yes it does, unless they are exclusive of newer models (Pixel 4). Since the launch of Pixel 4 they already ported to the 3a Astrophotography, Live Captions, Styles personalizations, etc.. But Google said that they are not going to bring for example other things like the contrast slider for photo shoots, which remains a Pixel 4 exclusive
-Yes
-The google search bar is integrated into the launcher, you should change launcher in order to get rid of it
-I didn't check the version over the updates, but at the moment is 4.9.185
-Nothing weird, IMHO is a powerful device with a great price

That kernel version is the initial android 10 kernel. So they maybe update only on new android big versions.
Would you say that the screen quality is good compared compared to xz2? Can colors be natural? I'm using professional colors on mine.
You basically come from my same device. So it's nice to see that you see the pixel as an upgrade.

Well, to be honest I consider the two displays almost on the same level, cause the xz2's LCD was way better than any other LCD I've seen around.
The 3a OLED is very good for its price, but under strong sunlight it may struggle to be visible.

Regarding the display, it's really is not very bright, but custom kernels (e.g. ElementalX, I think) can provide a high brightness mode for direct sunlight.
If you want a really long in-depth review, xda's Dylan Raga has written a display review, but there's also a quick overview as Pros and Cons.
For other users' opinions, there is always the Real Life Review forum section to check out, it also has a display section.
Personally I also use the Natural profile. It seems bland at first compared to Adaptive (default setting), because it's not slightly oversaturated, but given Natural is more accurate, I'm quite happy without the additional color pop.

Thanks. That article is really intersting. But what is scaring me now about OLED is that often people get headache since the screen flickers.
Based on this review: https://www.notebookcheck.net/PWM-Ranking-Notebooks-Smartphones-and-Tablets-with-PWM.163979.0.html
Over 500 Hz should not be an issue but under 250 Hz it could. This pixel is just 270 Hz...
My phone is 2381 Hz and the phone I had before it had no flickering at all.

Camera (and flash, which was ridiculous on the xperia) and audio are two of the main reasons.
Also battery is a huge improvement to me, cause I use to cover about 5 hours of SOT with the XZ2, now I get up to 7.
The only thing I miss is Dynamic Vibration, it was such a nice feature

This is news to me, so I did some research.
In case it's also news to someone else, these frequencies aren't related to display refresh rate, which flagship nowadays increase above 60hz.
From what I understand (as a layman) it's basically modulating the current or voltage to an average by switching the supply on and off within that frequency, effectively controlling brightness.
I can't say I did experience headaches or eye strain, so I might not be the best person to answer this, but I usually use my phones' display quite dim. Shouldn't the frequency decrease and make flickering more noticeable (more waves and longer intervals being off)? Maybe I'm getting it wrong though.
What also caught my attention in your linked table is how many other popular phones sit around these lower frequencies, and only one iPhone ranks slightly higher than the 3a. There are LCDs as well, maybe it's not limited to OLED. But there surely is someone more knowledgeable than me.
Just a quick review. The screen is not even comparable with the xz2c. It feels cheap. But the worst part is the view angle. If you are not in front of the screen the colors really change a lot. And you tend to see the colors changing while you use the phone. ?
You get used to it though. Is just weird if you compare them.
If the screen is all black there is some fading lighter on some side.
On really low light I notice that as example, the keyboard have a shade color instead of being unique.
Night light is less warm.
I don't get stressed by eyes or mind looking at it.
The pixel launcher doesn't allow me to even disable the "ok google" voice detection. I'm considering to swap it. But not sure what will happen with the app switcher.
(if you don't use google at all you can disable the google app and this will disable voice detection while the search bar will be still there as just a picture doing nothing)
Everything else is fine. The phone feels really great in hand and is lighter. Charging is faster.
I'm noticing how feature that are missing versus pixel 4 are not all relevant to hardward or whatever. And some of them are nonsense. Like live wallpapers. So I'm not sure how much really updated the Pixel will stay in time versus another phone except security patches.
I just got used to the screen. And now looks just fine. Except the angle view but I don't care enough. Also the touch is so responsive.
I think this phone is amzing. Is all around balanced, the experience is fluid and clean. So handy and light. Also doesn't attract dust at all. Fast charge.
I'm enjoing display ambient always on, I never thought that could be a good thing but it's really nice.
I just forgot I'm using this phone, it just doesn't distract me.
I would not say photos are so much better in general but they are just a lot better in not perfect light condition.
Checked my screen for a few minutes. There is indeed a *slight* variation in colors when viewing at an angle, which is noticeable only on white backgrounds (and I am in dark mode
Screen should last much longer than 2 years: especially in the EU where legal warranty is 2y.

Yeah it's not that much. It was just the first sight. If you come from lcd for like your life, oled is really weird. But you get used to it really easy and after that it's great.
I hope it last. This phone is perfect for basic use.

Mi Note 10 Pro / CC9 Pro Premium AMOLED Burn-in

Got it 2 days ago, barely even used it, still waiting for unlocking permissions...
I believe it's just Temporary Burn at max brightness but I've never seen it be so obvious on literally ANY display before!!
The shadow you're seeing is caused by the Brightness Slider in dark mode, and can be recreated in less than 5 seconds, and goes away after 20 seconds
I read somewhere in the MIUI forums that it could be a software problem regarding MIUI 10/11's advanced display algorithms, but I highly doubt it as I know the system only changes the overall contrast based on lighting
I did multiple tests with dimming On/Off, and compared it to my Mi8 SE running some Xiaomi.eu MIUI 11 beta, it's a completely new problem on the Note 10
Please test it yourselves as well, I'm looking forward to detailed replies
Many thanks!!
I have mine by 2 months, mi note 10 with cc9 pro xiaomi eu rom, started noticing the same things latest 2 weeks ( you see it better in a dark enviroment ).
Max i reach is half brightness, can't stand more, so i can guarantee that is not because of max brightness as i've seen that happening even with just like barely readable brightness.
Reading mode and anti flicker don't help.
I can even assume that with anti flicker on ( that i always have ) is worse.

UPDATE:
The problem has gotten much worse, does anyone know who's manufacturing these for Xiaomi / Huawei?

UPDATE:
The problem has gotten much worse, even the white text I'm typing right now in the XDA Labs app is leaving light shadows when I backspace, I'm %99 sure that I have a factory deflect, and no warranty, so I actually might end up replacing the screen in a few months if officially stated fixed versions become available

Visionox manufacfure the display, not the usual Samsung xiaomi used for their oled. Samsung is prone to burn in too, every oled is, but it is clear that quality talking this display is inferior to the Samsung one's, never seen this kind of ghost burn in until this phone. Let's hope will always remain only a temporary burn one
This is unbelievable... even the Samsung Galaxy S5 mini has far superior image quality and calibration
I don't have any burn-in problems yet but I can agree with you about the calibration and quality issue. Even when I change it to warm or cold, I can't notice a big difference, and I don't really like the colors it shows. Most of the reviews say this phone has a great screen, I don't think they were lying but there must be a problem with the quality standards of the brand of the screen. My 3 years old S8 Plus shows better colors with its cracked screen, which is annoying.

Poco X2 ghost touch problem.

I am facing ghost touch issue in poco X2 and the problem is getting worse day by day! Anyone who faced similar problem in X2?
I have touch issues also; the screen registers touches when my fingers are near the screen; it worse for me when charging. If you are in India and bought it from Flipkart; I would ask that you raise it with them as soon as possible. I have asked for a replacement on june 17 and their response is abysmal.
Same ghost touch issue here...

Yes, I also have been facing it since last 2-3 weeks.
I think it might be due to some update in some software, mostly keyboard. I am using Microsoft SwiftKey as keyboard. What about you?
Here we are. Tianma lcd panel? Same problems with poco f1, note 8, note 8 pro. At least about this phones I've been reading extensively. And it's hardware not software problem. I wanted to buy Poco x2 but this thing is obviously deal-breaker. Pathetic
I have been using it for 2 weeks and never had any issue.
I was also facing ghost touches on stock rom but now everything is fine in custom rom...

I'm exactly in the same boat as you with my MI A2 touch issues. I've been researching this too for a while now and looks like I'd have to switch to either Oneplus or Realme. Poco X2 was really interesting but deep down i knew.

Doesn't matter, even the displays from Huaxing in Redmi Note 9 Pro has bleeding and retention issues, so goodbye Xiaomi, i guess.
It's a hardware issue in my case (India)
I bought a brand new Poco X2 on 11th July and got it delivered on 13th July. I have been using Xiaomi phones for the last 2 years so the learning curve with MIUI wasn't much for me, the only thing I needed to get accustomed to was the form factor.
From the very first day, the keyboard used to double tap. While playing PUBG, it would auto press some buttons (reload, backpack etc.). Also, the gestures weren't particularly great.
Initially, I thought it happened because I wasn't used to it, but after 10 days the problem persisted. That's when I decided to do a deep dive. I downloaded several multi-touch test apps, and indeed, it showed the problem of ghost touching. Even while touching the screen once, the max. events would show 2.
On top of this, I faced a very poor screen flickering issue.
I submitted my phone to the service centre on 28th July. They said even though they have not received any X2 with such complaints, there indeed seems to be something abnormal with my phone. It could either be the display or the motherboard or the PCB or the worst - a combination of 2 and 3. So it's either a repair or a replacement at this point. They have asked for 6-7 days, so let's see.
But if you are using the device and facing such issues, don't hesitate to raise your voice.
If you're planning to buy the device, RUN AS FAR AS YOU CAN FROM THIS ONE. Don't buy this.

The situation with Poco X2 in compare to other Xiaomi phones is still much better. Poco X2 at least doesn't have miserable tianma panel. Problems will occur but majority of don't get any issues

Question [CLOSED] Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus AMOLED Display Problem

Hello,
I've been using Redmi Note 11 Pro plus for the past few days. I had been using a Samsung m30s before and compared to that the display experience in Redmi Note 11 Pro has been dull.
Last day I noticed something. I had tried using a completely black wallpaper and then I noticed how the black was not proper. Colour was leaching out through sides of display like a backlight bleed.
I had seen previous reports of a possible Redmi Note 11 Pro Display problem which made me do a display test on the phone. Then I noticed that this bleed like effect was present also for white as well as dark grey colors.
However these went away after I restarted my phone. So I wanted to know whether anyone else experienced this Redmi Note 11 Pro problem.
<Moderator Edit>: Self-promoting video link deleted.
This is a software issue that only occurs on MIUI. On custom roms this problem doesn't show up and the screen is completely black.
Probably a software issue, mine is noticeable when swiping the brightness while on the black screen test raging from 8 - 15% of brightness where I can see the bleeding
Hello I was planning on getting this phone (Redmi note 11 pro 5g) but after researching a bit I came across this thread. I heard this is an issue that affects both models. Is this an issue that affects only certain units or do most have amoled problems? Does this only show in 120hz mode? Thanks!

My device has no such problem. I generated a #00000000 image using an app and tried viewing it at max brightness in a dark room and the screen legit turns off. Its kinda freaky to see a display turn off when you know its on and expect some bleed. I come from lcd so thats what I expected. Needless to say I'm glad my model wasn't defective.

I have compared the Redmi Note 11 Pro Plus 5g (peux) with last years top model Redmi Note 10 Pro Max and this display seems to be more colorful and vibrant compared to last years model. That one seemed more washed out in the same display modes.

The issue is not present at 100% brightness. Try keeping the image, and play around with the brightness settings from 0 to 100. Then, you can notice that at certain percentages, the backlight bleeds quite heavily. In my device, it's at around 30-50. Some other users report that it's happening to them at 40-60.

hi does this affect daily usage? I tend to use my phone a lot at night in bed so it would suck if the bleeding is that bad. How noticeable is it when watching content with dark scenes/backgrounds?

On my day to day usage, I find that it's not noticeable at all. However, If you're watching content that has pure black elements, it is very noticeable. It's inconvenient, but usually when it happens I just turn down the brightness a little bit and it's gone.
I wouldn't say it's a deal breaker, I still think the phone is a pretty good value, but buyers beware. There's some hope that it'll be fixed in an update at some point but I wouldn't hold my breath. Just be aware that your mileage may vary.
Is this an issue that is present on 60 or 120hz? Saw a couple of posts on other threads that say issue disappears on 60hz. Is it the same on yours?

The problem still persists regardless of whether or not I set 60 or 120hz. On my device, at least.
Guys, try this app called Oreo colorizer. This solves the issue.
It forces the display to shift its color space to DCI-P3 instead of the default sRGB according to the below XDA thread.
So the issue is software related. NOT HARDWARE. Hope Xiaomi solves this by updates in future.
[APP][Official][v1.1] Oreo Colorizer
Oreo Colorizer uses an invisible system overlay operating in wide color gamut that forces the display to shift its color space to DCI-P3 instead of the default sRGB. Optimized Rendering only affects apps that use SurfaceFlinger (IE: 99% of all...
