Hey guys I was wondering if anybody would guide me to successfully edit the boot.img and then repack it.
I have tried several times to edit this using the guide found here:
http://android-dls.com/wiki/index.php?title=HOWTO:_Unpack,_Edit,_and_Re-Pack_Boot_Images
but every time I repack the boot.img and try to flash it the phone goes in a boot loop.
Any ideas how I can fix this??
Thanks in advance
I'm having the same issue, more than likely you'll have to use a hex editor like hex workshop, my problem is i'm not sure where the boot header ends and the kernel begins or where the ramdisk should end and if there are any other pieces in there that need to be separated. Would love it if someone knowledgeable would care to share!!
yes I came across a guide that mentioned the use of hex editors but to be honest I wouldn't even know where to begin with it... I followed the official guide which was posted here in xda as well but i just cant seem to get it right even though I follow the steps in minute detail. Hope somebody is able to help us soon because I want to be able to use adb remount
EDIT: I found a link (thanks to freddyemmer) that seems to explain in more detail how to edit the boot.img is kinda general first but then goes into specifics for my device, hopefully the general guide will help you

Hi,
I like to experiment with such things, but when i'm looking for tutorials, which show me what happens during "rooting", I didn't found anything.
Please, could someone explain me, what exactly happens during rooting of an android phone .

Hi guys! So, I've rooted my triumph using the gingerbreak method and I have no custom recovery... or a computer to install one. I've been looking around for days to see if I could install one through the android terminal emulator or any other methods and have had no luck. Has anybody been able to achieve this? Or am I doomed until I can get to a computer? Sorry if I posted this in the wrong section or I'm asking a question that has already been answered. Any and all help would be appreciated.
Thanks!
maybe someone in this forum http://androidforums.com/triumph-all-things-root/ can help you out,,

Have you looked in ROM manager and try to see if your phone is on the list for Recovery's? If so, then you can flash cwm directly onto your phone. If it is not, then you would have to find the tutorial of how to port cwm on your phone, most methods you will need a computer but in this case you may or may not, you would just have to read a tutorial and find out, hope this helps

I have a guide
I have a complete video guide on youtube if you want to watch it. i have a detailed tutorial on how to install android 2.3.7, android 4.0.3 clockwork mod 5.0.2.6 (and the updated versions) all in seperate tutorials on my channel. ( http://www.youtube.com/itzgavin96 then search for motorola triumh and view the videos). if your usb port is not working, its ok. when you put your phone in download mode, it sparks a different driver to run. many people told me (on my tutorials with 25k views total) that their usb ports were not working for normal transfering of files between pc and phone but they tried plugging it into the pc when in download mode (some had to unplug and replug multiple times for it to show up) and it actually showed up. i highly recomend checking out the tutorials
Have tried every program that I had found on these forums and it keeps giving me an error. If anyone would have any advice or instructions it'd be greatly appreciated. I'm confused as to if the SL101 runs the same software as the TF's but I really havent seen much on it.

I'm using SL101 and "1-Click Transformer Root"-Root/Unroot/cwm/stock rec-TF101(G)/201/300T(G)/SL101" is really working for me. Enjoy your new rom

I know you said you have tried EVERY tool here, but your post really does not help much.
If you get an error in a specific tool, we will need to know what tool and what error you were getting.
AFAIK, you need to use a tool that uses ADB to root, not one that uses APX mode. I know EasyFlasher does not work on the SL101, but the previous post has a 1 click tool that has worked, and also PERI by Thing O Doom has been tested and works on the SL101.
Make sure you have the Naked Driver for ADB installed on your tablet. Using any other may be causing your issue.
I have the ASUS tf101 transformer it's on 4.0.3 but I can't figure out how to root it. I've tried using ADB but windows won't detect it and when I install drivers it fails. Can someone help me out? It would be greatly appreciated. Also can someone help me put a custom recovery in? I want to install custom roms. Thanks in advance.

Did you install the universal naked drivers first?
Also minimal_ADB_Fastboot V1.4.1 setup.exe. This number will unroot in seconds.
Please understand it is better to make a mistake and learn than to not try first. Most of the folks here have made mistakes but tried. No one is going to do anything for you unless you try first. Just use search and search plus. I am not special or smart but after looking and reading I can do wonders with my Asus tf-101. Please be good to yourself and read, learn then do.
Yes I have it was a bad cable but I have tried to root and it just restarts my tablet and does absolutely nothing give me the one the worked for you and give me instructions because at least why I've been doing isn't working. Thanks in advance
