Hello everyone, I wonder if anyone found a wireless charger that compatible with our S-Pen?
I tend to use S-Pen for presenting purposes. But the only gripe is the "battery" life, since it only able to hold charge for around 20 mins. Having a portable wireless charger is really helpful, since I don't need to go back to the phone to reinsert the S-Pen.
There's no known third party charger that could be used for our stylus, i much prefer if there's a third party stylus that can hold up more than 20mins or possibly even higher, doesn't matter if it's thicker like half of a marker's thickness.
I don't think the pen uses the Qi standard. Probably the easiest (though definitely not the cheapest) way would be to gut another Note 9 for parts and build your own charger.

Wouldn't it be easier to just buy thousands of note 9s and use all their pens as throwaways? ?

20 mins is a bit short do you press the button over 200 times in the 20 min presentation?
As Samsung say's Usage time: When fully charged, its standby time is 30 minutes, and its button can be used 200 times. Even when the S Pen is discharged, all of its features, including Writing/Drawing and Air Command, can still be used.

Sadly, it doesn't work as advertised.
It works for around 24+ mins with normal usage in presentation... Well, still short of around 60-90 mins of presentation I need.
And yes, although the air command etc works, the thing I need most during presentation (bluetooth remote) doesn't work..
I believe the S-Pen of the Note 9 uses some sort of proprietary tech to charge it.

it's Wireless Charging dude!
ㆍThe way wireless charging works is by creating a magnetic field between the coil inside the device and the coil inside the S Pen. Note that S Pen must be inserted correctly and completely.
ㆍWhen the S Pen is fully charged, the device's battery loses 0.5 mAh, which is extremely insignificant. Moreover, since their charging methods differ, it's impossible to charge the S Pen using the device's wireless charger.

You might as well pick up a 2nd s-pen! It will be a pain to keep track, but that way 2nd one can be charging while first one is in use, and you can hot swop mid presentation! Problem solved!

Hot swapping doesn't work either, since you need to come back to where your phone is connected, and also, note 9 only works with one that is inserted (it checks as re-pairing the S-Pen, so if one is charging inside, the other one won't work).
Charging the S-Pen itself isn't a hassle at all. Only need around 15 seconds IIRC. The problem is, having to go back and forth to the device to charge the S-Pen.
Well, for now, I'm using a windows laptop for presenting. So sad can't use my Note 9 for now.

Indeed, I've tried, and still using it for non-presentation things. The DeX system, I mean, not the screen mirroring. I found no use for screen mirroring because MS Office PowerPoint already have presentation mode.

Also, that doesn't make me not to go swapping the S-Pens each 20-30 mins. Not helpful.

After all the excitement of my TF arriving I fired it up to find that the touch screen has issues. Say you are in landscape mode, about an inch from the top there a half inch wide strip that runs all the way across the screen that will not respond to a finger touch. I either have to have it docked and use the mouse to do anything in that area or turn it to portrait to change the orientation so what I want to touch is not in that area. That same area of the screen is dead in portrait mode too.
Also, it won't charge through the USB ports. I was in on the TD sales so a return is not possible. I'll wait till more are available, buy another from a different local vender then do a swap and a return.

It was like that outa the box. The first thing I tried to do was drag a few icons to the removal area. As soon as I slid it up the screen and hit that area I couldn't drag it any farther. It was like I took my finger off the screen. It took me a while figure out what was going on.

Hmm... Now that you mention it I think I read that somewhere too...... Time to do more research.
The problem I have right now is I am leaving for camp this afternoon and I have no electric there yet. So I guess I better have it fully charged before I leave. It's going to be tough getting a whole weekend out of a new new toy.
One more thing, I left my wall charger at home so I borrowed a coworkers Thunderbolt wall charger to see if I could top it off before I left for the weekend. It won't charge it either. So something must be pretty special about the TF's wall charger.
Although the problem seems different from mine, it does show ASUS has some quality control problem with the touch screen no TF. See this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1068569

I had exactly this with my first TF, except it was a 1/2" wide strip about 1" up from the dock connector. Factory reset and unplugging from the charger had no effect. Asus was willing to do an RMA but I returned it to Newegg instead and hunted for another one.

Ok, after reading all the new posts this morning from a lot new purchasers I guess I am not the lone ranger with some issues. I guess that is to be expected for us early adopters. I'll get this unit switched out when they become more available and I'll just deal with the screen problem till then.
I love the TF. The screen is beautiful, seems very responsive in the area that it works and is extremely fast. When it's hooked up to my Bolt using 4G it surfs amazingly quick. I can deal with a bug or two for a while.
I've got the same thing but about a third of the way from the bottom of the screen. It doesn't respond to touch when I lay the tablet down, but when I hold it in my hand it will respond better but still not great. Strange.

Not that I am missing questions and answers on this topic. I have seen some here and Android Central.
However I am getting a bit of conflicting answers.
I figured I would ask here and see if I can get maybe 2 answers that agree.
I simply want to know...the Energizer Qi Charging Pad is the best one (by opinion) out there now, until Google puts their orb out ???
With regards to the Energizer, I was told at Best Buy it would not charge with a TPU on. But on AC Forum it said YES, you can leave the case on you have to put it in the right spot.
1. Is that true, you can leave the case on? And finding that "spot", is it a tedious thing or is it fairly easy to lay down?
2. One poster said he would hope that we would not leave the $400 phone charging for many hours. I said, did you mean the Charging pad, or simply plugged into the micro usb, or on a desktop dock.
I don't know his answer. I would assume he just meant the Pad. Would it be bad to leave the phone on the pad, for example, overnight.
While I could hear someone saying that, I would think it would be fine. I think most makers know that overnight is prime time for charging.
3. With regard to my Newtrent external batteries, when full charged, are you supposed to unplug. Or can I leave it plugged in
4. I asked Newtrent if I have my ext. battery plugged in, can I use the phone thru that, if I am for instance working at my desk.
He says he doesn't recomment charging two things at once. I didn't know if he meant anything, like using a a/c to 3 a/c adaptor which wouldn't make sense. Or just the example I am speaking of.
Your help is greatly appreciated.
As far as the charging with a case, mine works just fine. Here's a video I made to show it. Once you know where about to place the phone it's actually a decent area. As you can see I just set it down without tweaking it each time and it works just fine except the 2 times I show where the too low points are.
It charges about 30 percent an hour this way. I haven't left it on over night yet, but when I get another one for my bed room I plan to.

Thanks for the video and letting me see it. As someone said, it is sold out on Amazon. And a friend ordered it for me as a gift from Sears, only to find 4 days later when I called (They did not tell me ) that the order was cancelled. They did not know why. They assumed it was because it was out of stock. (Nice way to communicate with the 3rd party LOL )
Do you know where I can get it. I would get the dual one, but I checked the dimensions, they are pretty big. that is like 12" x 9"
Is the Orb coming out soon?
Lastly, I assume it will be ok to let sit there for hours. How about my ext battery, once that is charged: Can I leave it plugged in?? Can I leave it plugged in while having the micro usb come out to my phone and use the phone the same time. Newtrent guy said he doesn't recommend it I don't know much about it

that is one of the ones I wanted to know. I knew that...I must have had a brain fart and forgot that. Even most of the chargers that come with the phone do right?
So you would get this, it's no pain in the neck, and you would get this instead of a dock
Do you know if by chance the Seidio Innodock would fit. I believe so. I think the one they had on the past 10 phones was the same model LOL
I use the same case and charger. I do not place the phone as high on the charger and it still works. I will also confirm that my charger turns off after the phone is charged. I leave mine on the charger at work.

Can someone confirm the behavior of charging on their QI charger. Does it charge to 100% and stay at 100%, or does it drop a few percentage then charge up again? Mine seems to charge to a max of 97% and stay there, but I have not experimented too much yet.

I decided to use my phone without the case today. I noticed that the phone starts wireless charging almost immediately when I set the phone on the charger without a case. With case it takes a couple seconds usually before it starts. I'll have to do some testing over the next day to see if it actually chargers faster or just initiates the charge quicker and I'll let you guys know.

Agreed. That is the behavior that I'm seeing as well.
I own an Energizer single charger.
Normal thickness cases will still work. The N4 will charge so there's no issue there.
Just that the N4 does seem to get a toasty charging overnight and my N4 only has a back screen protector on so I just caution to be mindful of that.
Personally, if I had a full case or like a leather/vinyl/thick pouch, I would simply take the N4 out of it for overnight charging just to be on the safe side but then again, I baby my devices so... Lol!

All,
I purchased the Note 5 from Best Buy, yesterday, and received the free charging pad. I used the charging pad for the first time last night while I was sleeping. I woke up a couple of times during the night and noticed that the charging pad was flashing blue and the phone was not charging. I pulled the phone off, waited about 30 seconds, then put the phone back on an it started to charge again. I did this three times and it always ended up back with the flashing blue light. Doing some research this morning, a flashing blue light indicates the phone is not placed on the charging pad correctly. I had try to make sure the phone was properly centered on the pad each time. Has anyone else been battling a similar issue? Thanks in advance.
Yes I had the same problem here and I think that's same solution fix it once I got it centered where the Samsung word on the charger is Horizontal with the Device and I get a good connection everytime

Thank you for the response. I have been messing with it this morning and it does seem to be ok if I really make sure it is centered. I guess it is just really sensitive with alignment. I will see how it goes tonight. With my previous wireless base, it would always have issues after the phone was on it for 4+ hours. I am hoping that is not the case here.
Yeah. I had issues with it last night. It started charging right when I put it on there but sometime right after I went to sleep, it must've stopped working.

You have to have something creating a small gap between the phone and the charger, I had the same issue and found the answer in some thread I can't find now. I just put a couple pieces of paper in between the phone and the wireless charger I guess because it works through some sort of electronic field the phone without a case sitting right on top is too close. Either way when I get my case the issue should be gone but put something there and that should do it, mine charges all the way now and it's fast.

Well, I picked up a case today and am still having the same issues .
My girlfriend works for Samsung, she told me the issue lies within verizon's software with the new note 5's, and they are working on an update. Mine does the same thing on a Samsung pad that worked fine for my note 4 with wireless case back. Apparently it happens every time the phone receives any kind of notification, I'm going to place the phone on airplane mode tonight to see if that works. Case/no case is not the issue.

That is interesting. I just stopped by a Best Buy store and talked with the Samsung rep. He said he has the same issues and thought it was a problem with the charger. Best Buy said they would let me exchange it for a different charger, but I may wait to see if an update can fix it. Thanks for sharing!
The problem is using it without a case. The charger is assuming there is a case and if there is no space between the phone and the charger it will stop charging after a few minutes because the voltage is too strong when they are too close. Put a few pieces of paper in between and you should be fine. Or get a case.

I'm on Verizon and mine works fine. It took me a few minutes to get it placed on the charger correctly but it works great. Also, I came from the s6 and it would charger as well but I would wake up with only 80 something percent since once it charges to 100 it stopped charging. The N5 however if it discharges to a certain point it apparently restarts the charging process.
Tried 2 of the Samsung wireless chargers and both had the same problem on the S6 Edge + and the Note 5. The Samsung rep at Best Buy said that the workaround is to put the phone in daydream mode. She said the Note 5 and S6 Edge + go into too deep of a sleep. She said to use the work around or we have to wait for the fast wireless charger to be released.
Has anyone confirmed that the Verizon Note 5 will not have the blinking blue light not charging problem? I haven't seen any OTA updates to fix this issue on Verizon like others have reported that AT&T did.
dja2k
No, I'm still having the blue blinking light on the samsung fast wireless charger (it happens a little while after placing the phone on it). Basically makes the charger useless for now until we get an update. It's a shame because I bought the official Samsung charger and I'm having to resort to plugging in my phone still.

Screen sensitivity has no relation with charging. Do u you have any other specific scenario rather than charging when it got happened ?

No, the touchscreen is less responsive when the phone is plugged in.There is no other scenario in which it happens.

Do you have a case on the device? Reason I say is that I am waiting for my case to arrive and I notice that the screen sometimes does not respond. When my wife complained about it also I noticed when watching her use the device her thumb on the hand that was holding the device was touching the edge of the front glass. She moved her thumb and responsiveness came back. This phone is super thin compared to my previous phone. Just an idea.
I notice that too and in my old phone as well. But only if I use a different charger with stronger power output. It won't respond to touch at some points.

I only had that problem with my legacy devices...lol. Sometimes a simple reboot while plugged in helps.
It happens on my old device too. This is caused by using third party charger. If u do so, please do not.
So far using honor 8 while charging using original charger is just fine. I even game on it sometimes. No touch screen issue.

I wonder if this happens with fast charger and Huawei 1.5A charger that comes bundled in some countries...

No it won't. As we said tbis only happens with 3rd party chargers.

I suspect some months ago Huawei slowly started changing kernel for Kirin socs, changing fast charge behavior.
I have the same problem, mostly when i use other chargers

For Kirin SOC it's proprietary chargers but for Qualcomm any QC certified will do.
You have to use either H8 or M8 original fast chargers.
I'm using the original charger, but I have this problem only at certain moments in the day.Must be that honor 8, or the charger is sensitive to EM perturbations.

Might be the electric current causing it.

Have you tried to plugged in a protected against discharges socket? One of those fancy surge protected and stuff...
Do you have a case on the device? I had a similar issue while holding the device and accidentally touching the edge of the front glass with my holding hand and trying to tap. The screen will be unresponsive. A good rubber case fixed it for me. Just an idea.
It could be the case, but I'd definitely see does it work on a surge protected socket, ensuring the supply is constant.
I apologize in advance for necroing this thread.
I have an L04 honor 8 and i've just OTA updated to B360, everything working fine but i have this very problem. When charging the phone (genuine huawei fast charger) touchscreen doesn't respond as it should and scrolling is awful. As soon as I unplug the phone it gets back to normal.
Any ideas? It didn't have this beahaviour before upgrading.

Tale case off, take screen protector off, clean screen, try another power outlet, try hard reboot(hold power button until reboot).
i am having a terrible issue on my Note 20 ultra. I was on Android 10 Ketan Rom Android 10 Q06 . All was well.
Today i put phone on charge at around 10 percent and when i came after around 20 mins to check on phone. The phone screen is black and nothing showing up. i tried connecting to pc it connected but screen was black and also it went black

the phone reboots that way u mentioned i can connect to tv via dex mode and i can see touch working and phone working but display black
it reboots after every 10 mins i am on ketan custom rom q06 android 10
i can get phone into odin mode and try flashing stock Android 11 which i have on pc
BUT im afraid my phone might die or switch off while flashing stock rom.i asked a repair guy he says problem can be with motherboard .
im not sure to try flashing it
i managed to enter odin mod3 blindly with keys
flashed Android 11 stock firmware it was success
the phone gets On
connects to pc. connects via dex mode to tv also.
no more random reboots
but still black screen display not getting
awake only can access via dex mode or mirror mode
After around 24 hours ...
of soft reseting , stock firmware 11 install . and slapping and tapping and massaging, connecting to tv via hdmi in mirror and dex mode. my phone was in black screen of death.
everything was working. but no display. i can say that becauee in dex mode i used phome dsplay touchscreen and even spen was Workiing but no display.
last thing i was doing when display came back to life after tapping slapping soft reboots i was opening camera app and closimg and opening it multiple times. and i saw at same time display gettimg back.
when i saw a video on youtube telling to do above steps. i thought man he is joking. but literally something out of above worked
So i pray you dont get this dreadful encounter. it just saved me $400 of screen replacment which i had made up my mind on. and i coildnt go today because it was Sunday.
if this happens to you do try this before a repair

I have exactly the same issue. I was typing on whatsapp when suddenly screen get black. Notifications were ok, voice commands too. Touchscreen ok, I could use it normally when using my TV as screen with HDMI cable or with my notebook, when connected to windows or even Dex.
I already flashed fresh stock Android R rom and my display is still dead.
Tried to tap, slap, shake (I can her some noise next to camera module when shaking). I'm draining battery now with some apps that also vibrate phone. Display is still dead.
I live in Manaus/Brazil and repair centers are not working until March 23 because of Sars-CoV2. And my knox is tripped. It would cost a lot If I have to replace display or even the phone, since they probably will say it's no longer covered by warranty.
Were tou opening and closing the camera while mirroring screen? or on blind?
It seems in your case, the display went back to normal as strange as it turned off.
Could you please share the mentioned youtube video?
Hope I have that lucky as well.

Sorry for the late reply mate. The Scenario when display got back alive was.
1. My phone was connected via HDMI to TV in Mirror mode (Not Dex Mode). I also had mouse and a keypad connected since i am using Samsung Dex pad which came with my old note 9
I have from day 1have doubts about the stock camera app on my Note 20 Ultra. The app misbehaved from ranging to camera fail, and force closes on Android 10. That why i did below next
2. I forced close camera app , cleared its data and then while watching on Tv
i placed my finger on Camera icon and repeated opened it and closed it with back key.
since the display on phone was off so i used Tv for help
BUT physically doing the action on phone with fingers not with mouse on screen via mirroring
3. while i was repeatedly opening and closing app by touching the display with finger suddenly i saw camera app asking me for location tags pop up on display and from that time onward there has been no issue and the display is working as nothing wrong happened.
I wish and hope you have resolved issue by now. Please do share your experience for others . since when i had this issue, i found very less information about it. but i saw around 15 to 20 users having such issues especially with Note 20.
Conclusion what i have understood is either its some issue with Note 20 Ultras Camera Firmware or THe Electjet 45W Charger the culprit which i bought for my Tab S7 and was using to also charge my Note 20 Ultra. I have stopped using this charger for my phone and tab and since that day only using 25W OEM charger which came with the phone. I have now this 45w Electjet charger connected via Samsung dexpad which caps its charging speed to 15W.
Here is the link of the video. and i tried all things mentioned and then after exact 24 hours
the display came alive back when doing activities i mentioned above. and i have no link with the guy or channel who posted this video. I was just trying everything to bring life to my dead display .
PS: i had only 5 percent belief in this video . i dont know what worked
i had prepared my mind for the300$ plus panel display replacement.
i just read two recent more comments which state they got their phone working back.
Do read the comments posted as there might be some more clarity of things to try.
(Please Apply reasonable pressure on screen when trying these actions as you might break the Display)
Worked! Slapping it around and massaging it with reboot. Who knew Smack My ***** up! - The Prodigy was referring to modern phone fix'n.
I'm here literally in tears, my keyboard wet typing this because the video actual "Fixed" my phone. I don't know if its a long term fix or just temporary but after 24hrs of a black screen its good to have back a working $1400 phone.
So if this happened to you, dont be skeptical and just try the steps. Last resort is to bring it to a technician or Samsung but definitely try this before.
