Which Custom ROM is the most "naked Google ROM"? - HTC U11 Questions & Answers

Hi, as several CROMs are available -is any version well known to be (nearly) a clean Google-Version, so that it appears like a Pixel?

HI! the closest rom to google is Lineage OS 16 based on android pie (9.0).

Slim ROMs. It's basically aosp
Couple it with stock or full gapps and it's pretty close to pixel

Use this
https://f.celsoazevedo.com/file/gcamera/MGC_6.1.021_MI8_V2e.apk
And this in magisk
https://forum.xda-developers.com/u11/themes/magisk-module-adding-slow-motin-240-fps-t3839080
I find the results comparable
Tbh, with the recent updates to los, I'd probably go with that over slim. But slim is just that, a slimmed down version of Android

Are you actually able to get that camera app to save the slowmo videos? I can't seem to get it to actually save. It seems to be taking the video then when pressing stop it crashes and there's no video there. It does work with a 5.3 version of Google camera.
I've tried playing with some setting in the new 6.1 camera to get it to save with no luck, what setting are you using to have the slowmo videos to save?

Yeah, it works for me. I really didn't touch anything. Installed the two, rebooted and it works fine. If you are having issues, change it to 1/4 and see if it helps

Thanks for for responding, are you running Android 9? I am not so that could be the issue. I tried changing most things with no luck. [emoji53] Guess I'll stick with older Google camera and htc slowmo which I find mostly better

In bsg mod settings, there is "enable g.photos". I have that checked and don't have issues. Not sure if related...

As of February 25th, Lineage 16 Pie.
Basic, with just enough customisations.

What is the consensus between Slim and LineageOS?
Looking at moving to one of these, growing bored of stock Sense.

Personally using RR. It's los but with more added in.
Slim is just that, a slimmed down version. If you don't need a whole lot and just add apps, go for that. If you like to change buttons and stuff, go los, if you want fonts and extras go RR. They each add a little onto the next.
There is obviously a lot more involved, but you get my point

LineageOS (my ROM so i'm biased):
- The only ROM driving forward development at the moment
- Has extra customisations, but definitely not as much as RR
- Is what other ROMs are usually based on
Resurrection Remix:
- device tree probably almost identical to LineageOS. Kernel is practically the same too.
- On the ROM level, it has extra layers of customisability over LineageOS
Slim:
- Very cut down as the name suggests, less "Google" and more AOSP-like right now

Just installed LineageOS and still in the middle of setting everything up, but my review do far is "wow".
I feel like I'm using a Pixel.

So I don't mind sense. But I downloaded a stock ish Rom yesterday and it was 1.2 GB
That's 1 Gb more than cm of stuff I don't use. I like very lean roms that occupy less space and are highly performant.

Sense is awesome. Much more functionality and customization than AOSP although I sometimes do have the urge of running minimalistic AOSP.

I had cm on Verizon galaxy nexus! I started getting upset at the time it took to get to stable builds.
I doubt AOSP will be able to make the Duo Camera work. So, no special effects like focusing on different parts and other junk like that.
Might as well stick with Sense 6. It seems to be working very well so far.
surprisingly enough i dont mind sense...not the case with that steaming load Samsung calls Touchwiz. I would like to get back to aosp roms but i want the sense camera or one that can utilize the dual camera functions. That wont be long off...htc release the api for the dual camera so there will be options soon enough

HTC wants 3rd party development on the camera. They released an SDK. That may help.
http://www.xda-developers.com/android/htc-releases-dual-lens-sdk-for-the-htc-one-m8-2014/
My issues with sense revolves around the lockscreen and how it handles notification sounds.
With sense in place dashclock, which I prefer, I can't replace the stock lockscreen. Even using AOSP lock screen on Viper is not optimal since my tasker script does not allow me to situationally disable/reenable the lock screen.
There seems to be an issue on how sense handles notifications. I use a third party app to give me situational sound profiles, similar to what is offered in CM. When using it with sense I don't get reliable results. The built in sound profiles in sense aren't flexible enough.
Maybe I've just been using AOSP too long but I find sense too restrictive for how I use my phone.

I actually LIKE Sense (and completely agree about TouchWiz.) I have liked Sense back to the earliest versions but CyanogenMod has been my daily driver for a very long time. I am delighted to see Invisiblek is on the M8 project, I hope CM will be here soon and I'll be switching ROMs as I did with my Galaxy S3 and S4, running CyanogenMod until a problem shows up in a nightly and then switching back to Andybone's most excellent Bonestock ROM until CM gets fixed again. Eventually, CM became perfect (for me) on the Galaxy phones and I could stop switching and I know that's what will happen with the M8.

"Frankly, it'd be silly to have extra hardware on a phone that's completely unusable, so the Google Play edition will still take advantage of the Duo Camera functionality. Predictably, the app itself is the stock Google version, but the HTC magic comes out as soon as you enter the Photos app and try editing your shots. You'll be prompted to open up "HTC Photo Edit," and you'll see a screen that looks much like what you'd find in the Sense gallery, but with fewer options: UFocus, Dimension Plus and Touch Up are the only Duo Camera-esque effects listed, which means the Foregrounder, Seasons and Copy/Paste functions didn't make the cut. (Filters, frames and tools are still hanging out on the right sidebar.) UFocus is our favorite of the Duo Camera options, so we're glad to see it there, but Dimension Plus is a useless and gimmicky feature that we just don't use very often."

it seems like the driver and photo editing software that is the real key behind dual cameras is on gpe so those should port over seamlessly to aosp based roms.

Nope, you have to move them manually.
I tried it for a day and it seemed very unstable and buggy. But so was Broken OS, and PureNexus. I don't know if it's my phone, or just the ROMs becoming more unstable than they were in February. I haven't found a DD yet.

Yeah :/ I had really high hopes. At times it seemed great. I wished there was a way to turn their theme from holo blue to red! I've been using black and red themes lately. I wish I could remember the specific issues I had with this one. I know Broken would be working fine, then just crash, and not power up again. Pure nexus only had 3/4 of the features working, and had all the notofication and scrolling lag that the CM ROMs have. Who knows. Could be my device.

I apologize, but I can't honestly remember now. I can't remember if that was the one that would have apps close on me, or open on me without any input, or why I used the word unstable and buggy. If I say something is unstable and buggy, it typically means I had significant issues, beyond the normal one or two things that just don't work. But I unfortunately cannot remember.
I would like to note however, I noticed that restoring my apps and data with TiBu seemed to be causing some of my issues with the ROMs from that timeframe. Because I flashed the same purenexus build twice, once with restoring apps and data, and once by reinstalling everything from the play store, and noticed a huge difference. Using TiBu was much buggier, on the very same build. So it might have been that.
Link??
Restoring system data with TB can cause all sorts of weird issues. I strictly use it to restore apps/data for everything else, but not system data.
Sometimes it helps to wipe internal storage too when moving from one rom type to another (ie, stock based to aosp).
I haven't tried tesla rom yet, but may give it a shot in the future.

don't you always lose image quality when switching from stock to custom rom, no matter if it's a Sony, Samsung or OnePlus?
many OnePlus users still return to stock rom because of the worse image quality on custom roms.
I've never heard anything different than that.
correct me if I'm wrong.
It's for almost every brand the same: AOSP never came completely up to stock, because of the framework and optimization from the original builders: The OEM. But since we have many good devs around, porting the Google Camera to fit for our device, at least non-pro shots will be equal, if not better than stock. You can come close with several other apps too:
• Open Camera
• Snap Camera HDR Pro (Smells a bit abandoned, to be honest.)
• A Better Camera Unlocked (Also smells abandoned, but works fine. At least for now.)
• Footej Camera Pro
• Hedge Cam 2 (With the correct settings, you will get par to better photos than with stock. Based on Open Camera.)
For normal, I'd list Manual Camera and Camera FV-5 too, but both are too old and are for sure completely abandoned.

Micky,
based on solely the image quality - would you prefer a custom rom on the op5/5t or the stock rom? and even though you probably don't own a crystal glass ball, what's your stand on this when it comes to the op6?
thx!
I was and I ever will be a user of CyanogenMod / LinageOS. At least, you should switch one time back, because of this:
https://forums.oneplus.com/threads/open-ears-forums-key-actions-update.865969/
When this fixes come out, OxygenOS should really become obsolete in terms of image quality. But spoken of this: Isn't there a nice, working Google Camera port already out for the 5/5T? I skipped the 5/5T, because OnePlus really pis... me off for reasons - another story.

What is the best camera app for LineageOS on this phone?

I recently switched to this neat Xperia phone and I instantly gave it lineageos, in order to give it some life and make it faster. But ive felt it's hard to get nice pictures with the camera, although I thought the camera on this phone is really good. The past pictures proved that. Nope, right now I'm using a modded gcam that I found on this forum. It doesn't feel like it's using the cameras potential very much though and feels weird to use.

First off, try Open Camera (from Aurora Store or F-Droid). It works nearly as well as the new Lineage OS 20 camera app, Aperature.

Oh I've tried open camera too, its good I'd say but I do have some issues with it. Mainly with the sometimes grainy pictures in dark places, and how pictures in 16:9 get saved in a different position than where I was pointing at. Is it really the best camera app to get?

Pretty much, unless you have Lineage OS 20, then the best bet is Aperature.

Thanks!

Question Lineage OS 20 makes Pixel 7 Pro a much better phone(especially with Nikgapps, core, or basic)

Anyone agree? Performance is better than the stock. And gaming is overall better too. It's basically as if you're having a Pixel 8 DEVICE in the palm of your hand when it's just Pixel 7. I bet if Pixel 8 came out it'd be using lineage os 20 performance and stability. Anyone agree with that too?
One of the biggest set backs are the camera with custom OS
Afaik the camera doesn't perform the same.
it does on pixel phones, its just placebo
Have you tried crDroid? I'm still on November build stock rooted . Debating between that and lineage once I update, curious how they compare

it's not included in any package of nikgapps but you can download gcam directly from playstore or telegram (modded version)

I saw that a lot of people said that battery life on lineage os was pretty good, didn't tried myself (still on stock but hesitate between risingos and lineageos)

Do you even have pixel features like the music search or lens/select text and images in recents?

You don't have music search or others features uniques to pixel on LineageOS but you can have them with a module on magisk if I'm not wrong
Lineage OS is great. Battery life is amazing. Performance is solid. And weekly updates via built in updater works fantastic. It's a clean OS ... Doesn't have all the bells and whistles but you can add some via magisk mods ... Overall, if you like a clean AOSP look and feel, you should run this. I've used Lineage since it was first introduced to the Pixel 7 Pro as an alpha then beta and then official .. take it from someone who's used it a lot . There is no ROM like it.
What about the call screening feature on Stock? This is the primary reason I will probably stay with Pixel indefinitely! Better than sliced bread! In fact as much as I hate curved screens (the 7 Pro's is not as bad as some) I will tolerate the curve just to have the phone calls from scammers/spammers, and morons eliminated completely!

Call screening works if you install Google Phone app. Works flawlessly.

So then the app somehow knows it's being run on a Pixel? Maybe it "sees" the Tensor chip? I wonder because why doesn't it work when you install the app on a non-Pixel phone?
Have a question for the op or anyone running lineage OS 20 does this rom work well with Galaxy, or Samsung watches? I mean do they play nice together?
Guys help
installed LOS 20 with full nikgapps, and missed one option - weather under the clock on pixel launcher (there was one option in settings to switch it on on stock rom but missing on LOS rom somewhere in android intelligence settings or something that).
Any suggestions?

Thank you. It's been a long time. I've been on stock for a long time thought I would pull the trigger. But now I'm having trouble with Platform Tools. Hey I do have a question I know this is off topic but what version of platform tools do I need to use?
