General Joying Android 8.1 Intel Airmont eight-core 1.8GHz SC9853i (4GB RAM, 32GB flash) - FYT Android Head Units

I just found new kind of devices on Joyings website and did not yet find any posts about it.
The Android 8.1 based devices are again Intel based, no Rockchip PX5 anymore.
CPU: Intel Airmont eight-core 1.8GHz SC9853i
RAM: LPDDR4 4GB
Flash: Samsung 32GB
Several display sizes are available, all still with the known 1024x600 resolution.
The CPU is an outcome of a cooperation by Intel and Speadtrum (see https://www.anandtech.com/show/12592/intels-last-atom-in-smartphones-a-2018-benchmark),
and another Atom 64-bit architecture spinoff (see https://en.wikichip.org/wiki/intel/microarchitectures/airmont).
The GPU is a dual core Arm Mali-T820 GPU.
Anyone that had a chance to get hands on such a device and could make a comparision to the current PX5 based devices?
EDITs:
How to root: https://forum.xda-developers.com/an.../howto-root-joying-sc9853i-head-unit-t3915530

Just picked this unit up last week. my first Android Head unit. cant compare it to any other units.

The thread about the new DSP units is also from users having such a new Intel model

Neither am I.

This CPU is at least 30% faster then PX5/PX6. Is 14nm technology.

Thats very promising. Anybody know if Android Auto would work for phones running pie? So sad i can't get that workon my old intel sofia.

No Android Auto does not work. At least the way its supposed to. You can install it on the unit if you have WiFi tether, but that defeats the point. Also the EasyConnected app will not work. Joying said that they were working on getting Android Auto working, so maybe in the next update.
My wife has a PX5 and I had the SoFIA model. This one is much faster. It still has problems like the WiFi randomly disconnecting and reconnecting. Only 1 SD card slot and it has randomly disconnected at times as well.

Yes Headunit Reloaded worked-ish. I cand get it to work with USB, but it seemed to always fail with WiFi direct. I will play around with it more, but so far it looks good.

I was faced with this issue as well. The play store would only show Poweramp v2 so I searched the Poweramp forums and it turns out that Intel (x86) hardware is only supported by v2 and support was dropped in v3 and would only support ARM hardware.
However, I posted a question on the forum which you can see here: https://forum.powerampapp.com/topic/16541-intel-based-car-head-unit/ and as you can see I have got it working although I'm still not sure why.
In summary, just uninstall v2, download the v3 apk from here https://powerampapp.com/download-poweramp/ and install it and it should run fine. Then just install the unlocker from the play store as normal (assuming you have the paid version) and it works fine. I'm now running Poweramp v3 on my Intel based Joying unit with no issues whatsoever. Just remember to turn off auto update for Poweramp in the play store otherwise I think it will 'upgrade' it to v2 again.
As I said though, I really don't know how it's working as others have said that they cannot get it to run at all on other Intel based hardware.
Hope this works for you.

I'm afraid I have no idea regarding the volume issue. It's not something I've noticed but I may just be anaware of it. Where are you trying to set the volume, on the main unit volume buttons or somewhere in Poweramp itself.

[CAR AUDIO] XTRONS TD620A - 6.2” Android HD w/ Multi-touch

Just bought and installed this 2-DIN headunit! So awesome to finally have Android in the dash. So far it seems great.
LIKES:
Multi-touch is a nice touch
Able to install my own apks without connecting to the Play Store
Finally get to use Live Wallpapers without worrying about battery drain
Customizability
Built in fan
DISLIKES:
Start up time kinda sucks
Wifi seems to trip out when downloading via phone tether
Ipod icon in the dock (how clueless is that?? Android and Apple aren't friends)
*Actually to be honest, I kinda understand it. A lot of people use their ipods/iphones to listen to their music. My major gripe about this though is that- I CAN'T GET RID OF IT! I don't want an Ipod app on my Android. I would like to figure out how to get rid of it. I'd much rather put my bluetooth icon in the doc.
So far I've installed Skype, Space Colony Live Wallpaper, Maps With Me, and RecForge Lite. I haven't tried TB or Root Explorer yet, as I don't have root access (yet!). It comes preinstalled with Gmail, Email, Angry Birds Rio, Radio (the FM Radio app), EZ File Explorer and several other apps. It runs really smooth for the most part.
Anyone else have this unit yet? Anyone tried rooting it yet? Please share your experience in this thread.
Just for reference, the stock system versions are as follows:
CPU Information
Freescale i.MX53
RAM Information
512M DDR3 800
Android Version
2.3.7
MCU Version
2.10.9-1-10-1
System Version
2.20.21
DVD Version
2.13.11-1200wb
What is interesting is I was able to access my root directory and files without rooting my device. However, when I checked with Root Checker Basic, it said my device was not rooted. And I'm unable to mount R/W. I was able to copy the system/app folder with no problem though. Is this typical of non-rooted devices?

So far I'm pretty happy with it. The start-up time is a little slow, but other than that, it does pretty much everything I want it to do. I was able to install a different launcher that's more customizable and more to my taste. I've been able to connect to internet and Gmail and the playstore without any problem. I haven't had any problem installing apps (except for when I was intentionally trying to install apps that I knew wouldn't work... ie. Samsung apps). No major complaints. Overall a great purchase!

Got mine installed few days ago. So far so good. Boot time is around 45sec, not a really big problem for me as i do drive more then one min every trip. The default audio player sucks. The unit always runs the default player automatically at the beginning. Every time you have to stop the music b4 you switch to other player. Kinda annoying.

SDVC / GALA Tool for Android 6 / PX5 wanted

Hi Guys,
I´m ( and many PX5 users too very interestest on a tool like "RK3066 Headunit" or "S.D.V.C." (unfortunately Android 4.4 / 5.1.1 only) which enable (GPS-) speed depend volume change for Android 6 / PX5 users.
All tools i´ve tested are not working
Can somebody please programming a SDVC-tool? I (and certainly many others) would donate for it!
A program that can handle input of a basic formula for non linear progression. Something that modifies the volume so the volume does not revert back to the unmodified level when a volume button is pressed. -Thats annoying.
Something like that is also really needed for PX3

You're absolutely right. A disadvantage of the existing px3 tools is, that the volume level jumps back to the level before the volume was changed from sdvc tool. That sucks.
There should be the possibility to change the volume absolute / global / permanently, rather than relative / temporary. The frontpanel volume control / buttons do nothing else.
Better yet, it would be nice for the volume to be integrated with the rest of android so existing SDVC apps work as well as speech recognition. Presently when I say 'OK Google... turn up the volume' some volume setting is changed, but it doesn't actually change the volume through these units
Hello to all, guys I also need to raise and decrease the volume according to the speed! I've tried all the applications on the play store "Gala and Automatik sdvc" but no one works! We need a developer who creates a tool for Px5. We hope someone listen to us.
The developer of GALA has the intention on creating the update for px5, buy he needs the commands for volume up and down that the headunit manages. Anybody?

All need command informations can be found on source code base here: https://github.com/f1xpl/MtcdAutoVolume
BTW: MtcdAutoVolume is currently unusable because it controls to absolute volume levels (instead of relative).

There is no difference in functionality between the free and the donate version. Donate version (more like a pay version) handles the "donate-money" comfortable with the google pay system.
I will try 0.7.4 on Malaysk V2 today.

Try the new Version 0.7.4. The Bug Fix on PX5 (Fix issues that reboot) maybe helps to get the tool running on your system. The Tool owner rabbity417 seems very interestet to make the tool more stable for the PX5 platform. He releases fast new versions.
Revision Info myMTC Service (copied from Goole Play Store):

■ Bug Fix on PX5
1. Fix issues that reboot
-----------------
v0.7.3
■ Add Features and enhancements

Same here. 0.7.4 service stopps after standby. I have tried using Malaysk V3 for PX5 with CarSleepRun to keep alive the service ( added all listed - i guess - 7 mtc_services).
But did not work. The Screen Overlay Bug in Malaysk V3 is also annoying. No more experiments.
Now I am back on the well running 0.7.2 and Malaysk V2, where the mtc service is not stopped after standby

MonoNX - an experimental Nintendo Switch emulator for Android

Hello there, I've been working on this for a few days and I thought I'd finally show it off!
Please note that there is absolutely no graphics, only console output! Also, it's not very fast (only runs at 15fps on a SD625) and it only runs old homebrew (e.g. first libtransistor tests and such).
Discord support: https://discord.gg/fn8VV9T
Source code: https://github.com/Cyuubi/MonoNX
Credits:
Ryujinx Team - For the base of MonoNX, without them this would not be possible! Show them some love over at their GitHub (https://github.com/Ryujinx/Ryujinx).
Xamarin - For allowing us C# developers to program on Android.
Dr.Hacknik - Logo design.
Requirements:
An ARM64 or 64-bit x86 processor
NOTE: If you get a ROM load error, close out of MonoNX and go into app info and turn on and off storage permissions. This should fix the issue.
App download: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cyuubiapps.mononx
Test ROM download: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1cVa5BDn1w6FNb6QEKmch2m6k67t_q5c_
Interesting, I'll be looking forward this project. Thanks.

Do you use on aarch64 target devices dynamic recompilation or you execute directly the code?
If not, would you mind to give an insight?

Sadly, Hypervisors aren't really possible on Android from Xamarin... So we translate ARM64 -> MSIL/CIL -> ARM64, this is quite a hackjob but it works however it kills performance. MonoNX also works on 64-bit x86 processors, so the same thing works for this.
Toggling the storage permission back and forth changes nothing for me.

Hmm, that still sounds though like something that CAN be tackled among the line.
Like what if somebody would switch (no pun intended, hahahaha) the codebase to Firebase?
UPDATE: Apparently it works with under 4GB RAM. (probably using swap though)
Hello, the app force close for me (test rom and snake homebrew). I can not launch anything. I tried turn on and off. Doesn't help.

Hope upcoming updates soon.

Yeah then the games can run natively therefore no need for emulation. I would actually buy a pixel C over a switch if it can work. Also what about nvidia shield tv that can run mario galaxy at 1080p
So? Where we can find roms for this emulator?

Any site to download roms from?
What do you think should be the minimum requirements for an Android device to play resident evil 7 using this emulator, considering RE7 is a cloud game for Nintendo switch?
Also, I found its rom whose size is about 40 MB (YES, 40MB).
Only 3 games playable as I see the base project. Need some time but waiting for D3

PX6, Apps and Launcher not running smoothly..Why?

Hello,
maybe somebody can help me.

Launcher and apps do not run smoothly.
Tried solutions:
New motherboard installed
New coreboard installed
New firmware installed
New Hal9k v4.0.2 installed
Problem still exists.

That's right.
I also see this especially with the I-Bus App.
But only as soon as graphics are in play.
Also in the normal launcher.
But as soon as you are in the settings, everything goes smoothly.
As soon as a graphic is shown again, it stops again.
I have the same issue too. is there any solution?
problem in the Google app. Turn the Google app back to the old version. don't update again.

the px6 has Dual cortex-a72 + Quad cortex-a53 on it´s Board.
This is a Chipset introduced in 2016. Antutu Benchmark should be around 70k - 80k Points. This is very slow, so i think it´s would be Time for Chinese Factorys building new Android Radios with newer Chipsets...
A fix:
Maps is a notoriously heavy app. But the reason it lags on px6 is more than that alone. You can make it nearly lag-free through 2 changes:
1. Use the 32-bit (armeabi-v7a) nodpi apk. The rk3399 supports 64 bit (arm64-v8a) but it runs substantially slower to the 32-bit of the same release for some reason.
2. Downgrade a bit. How much you're willing to Downgrade is dependent on your preference, but the older releases all still work. Unfortunately I like the new versions more so I only rolled back to 10.55.2, but even that alone was a significant improvement over the latest release.
I'm disappointed that this is a problem when my $100 Umidigi phone can run maps more smoothly that the $350 head unit, but these two options make it good enough.
Also a note for Spotify PX6 users: use Tasker/Automate to emulate a touch on the album art every time the app is started to effectively start it in player mode instead of browsing.

No issue with maps on PX5 with sink/fan on Hal3/ Android 8.1, torque and Spotify all running. Have you checked for CPU thermal throttling?
Also, I have kernel auditior setting performance governor at boot.

Question Are there any Bluetooth client apps that aren't terrible?

I've installed I think around 7 android headunits and every single one has had a Bluetooth phone app that was bad to use.
Last year I tried to find a better one, without luck.
Any recommendations?
Nope but is it an FYT based headunit - post Android system information including MCU version to understand what variant the unit might be and what bluetooth your device has.
FYI - Bluetooth is not standard in these units.

One that I'll insult tomorrow is, yes.
Edit: I'm also "installing" it tomorrow.

Oh that poster had no intention of helping you, they just couldn't wait to tell you that you had posted in the wrong forum.
As for bluetooth implimentation, other than changing the variable in config.txt's sys.fyt.bluetooth_type= entry. They may not be any more you can do.

Not sure what exact function you are missing, but I used this one to install my OBD scanner (Vlinker) that the head unit would not connect to.

No one could establish the unit to be FYT based on this post.
without that info recommending a configuration setting which is applicable only to FYT based units is just as useless. I request you stop making assumptions about my posts as you might be lacking prerequisite knowledge.
Knowing what the unit is, is everything. A cursory read thorough MTCD forums show just how misunderstood it is, and without my posts and reporting to moderators the forums quickly fill up with out of topic posts and the real development falling off.
If every new post started with, my unit is "ANDROID SYSTEM INFORMATION + MCU version" then those that actually know could recommend and not enter a tool like guessing game.
Would be great if you begun assisting too, if not, not a problem and if you don't like a post the report button is always available to you.
This is my last post on the matter with you.

For a hands-free bluetooth dialing app that works with FYT 7862 head units, I recommend the free "Voice Call Dialer" by ArtostoLab, which is available on the Google Play store. It allows you to say the name of the person in your contacts list that you want to call on your cell phone over the Bluetooth connection, and it confirms the contact's name by displaying it as it counts down from 3 seconds (you can configure this value) before it initiates the Bluetooth phone call.
Previously I used the Google Assistant to make calls, but when I upgraded my old PX5 to the Joying 7862 10.5 inch 1280x720 head unit I found that the only way I could get Google Assistant to make call using my voice was by setting the "Smallest Width" DPI value in the "Developers options" to a value of 596 or less, and using an older dialing app called "GVC Callhandlert 4 Joying" which is described here:
Joying forward dial requests from Google Voice
By replacing the old GVC dialing app with the Voice Call Dialer, I am now able to set my screen to full resolution, with the "Smallest Width" DPI value set to 720 DPI. I am not able to make a voice call _directly_ from Google Assistant, but I can tell Google Assistant "Voice Dialing", and then I can just say the name of the person I want it to call.
Edit: I had a typo in the open command, and the word "open" is optional.
