Image Retention - burn in issue - Nokia 8 Guides, News, & Discussion

Is there anyone doesn’t face this problem? does screen replacement fix it permanently?...anyone knows how to fix it please tell us.
to check your screen : https://marco.org/rmbp-irtest.html

It's the problem with those lg manufactured lcd panels, just like how it used to be on the Moto g4plus... So even if it gets fixed by a replacement panel, it's only a matter of time until it comes back unless they change the panel model itself, which i think won't be done.

So, replacing the lcd panel has no impact in the future?

It has, but it's only a matter of time before it comes back, from what I've heard. So i didn't bother changing it. When the burn in gets too much, i just use a lcd burn wipe app with red noise for 1 or 2 minutes and it'll be gone. The problem is obviously with the red pixels coz the burn in appears red in colour.

Will have a bad impact? Only this time i found screen retention on my devicelmao

The crappy LG panel problem affects many Nokia 8 phones and it is becoming more common every day. Mine has this problem for about six months.
Using an app is a temporary solution and can help for 1-2 days but the problem returns.
You can send it for repairs but in 3rd world countries like Greece it will get about one month to get the screen replaced. Ain't nobody got time for that.
Does anyone remember the LG Nexus 5X motherboard problem that affected every single phone?... Same ****ty situation.

I've seen this issue with my Nokia 8, I've had image retention after chatting with someone for a while on WhatsApp their name and the Google logo from the keyboard remained for sometime afterwards. I've not had it stay permanently, but is noticeable if you go into an app that has a black background.

I suppose it'll just grow until a point... Nothing drastic... Except for the annoyance of the retended image on screens with grey background...

Just to specify that it's not a software problem. The issue is there on Nougat and Oreo for me. It's clearly the poor screen quality. .

I used to have this problem and it did annoy me a lot. But here is a simple fix :
Use cf.Lumen and add a profile with parameters like the photos attached
3 months now and has not seen that stupid red hue on the screen
*device has to be rooted

Guys help on retweeting so that hopefully Nokia will be aware of this issue and compensate for it. This is a hardware issue, no software magic can fix this.

And did you ever replace your display? I'm asking coz i just replaced my display because it broke due to the damn charger falling on the screen (so much for Gorilla glass). I remember i saw lgd dual dsi display or something on the "display" section of aida64, but after the replacement from Nokia's authorised service centre, it's not shown any longer (the lgd dual dsi something...). So i wish to know if it's authentic...

No i never replace my display since a bought it in 2018 its on November

it looks like circuitry, i wouldnt worry about it
It's the frame!
I gave my phone back for that to Samsung, and they said that this is the frame and its normal thus it won't be fixed. Quite annoying indeed. They also said that all devices suffer from that, but I call that bollocks.
I've tried multiple times to see if mine had this and couldn't see any of those lines.

All of these devices have that. This is an amoled trade off, it's seen in other amoled devices too. I have a brand new S6 and it has this too.
Update, went to the local Rogers store, they were shocked when I showed them this issue. We unboxed a brand new S6 and it had the issue, then we tried two display models, only one of the two had the issue!
Therefore, this affects the majority of devices, but not all! Now I'm pissed and want a working display.
I repeat, this does not occur to all S6s, demand your refunds folks...

That's what I thought too, until I found one without it yesterday. However, out of 5 devices, this is the only one I've seen without it. Some had it so badly you could see the line very very crisply.
Ugh... Guy at the phone store, "we can't go through every box looking for one without the issue...". So it's a bloody crap shoot at this point.

You just can't see it then but it's there. It's not the screen itself, it's the shadow caused by what's behind the screen. That's why it's only really visible on an all white screen at full brightness in direct sunlight. You are literally shining a light through the screen onto the other side.
Go shine a bright light into the screen and look for the top horizontal zig zag pattern that the circuit makes in the pic in my previous link.
There's no defect of the screen itself.
Just tested my cousins S6, it does not have this issue! So I've found two that don't and 6 that do.

I've confirmed two handsets now with no issues and 6 with. They most definitely do not all display this behavior.
This is quite simply ****ty manufacturing.
I sure wish this affected all phones, then I could live with it, but it 100000% does not affect all phones. Confirmed with the Rogers guy, we both found one phone that did not have this. He saw the issue right away too. So I know he saw what I did and we did not find it in his display model...

Maybe some don't show through as much as others. All I'm saying is this is not a screen defect, it's got nothing to do with the screen itself it's what's showing behind the screen.
All models are not going to be identical, they are all manufactured within certain tolerances. That goes for not just the screen, eg. the batteries will vary in capacites slightly, the CPU will vary in speeds slightly, the camera sensor qualities will vary etc.

Screens are meant to be one way devices, that's why they're called screens... You should not be able to see through a screen! That's the point here...

One Plus One Touchscreen

Hey guys, I want to buy a "defective" OPO for 100$. The sellers told me that a part of the touchscreen (about 13%) is not working. He says it works every once in a while but it is really rare. I was wondering if I would be able to fix this trough a Kernel or a ROM update (he runs CM12S) or if I need to change the screen completely. The guy says he had the phone for 2 months and he hasn't try to fix it because he has an iPhone (LOL)
Thanks for your answers!

Don't think how low u have to pay for opo but must think is it usable
Nearly 20% users complaining about touch issues like
1)ghost touch
2)unresponsive screen etc
http://forum.xda-developers.com/oneplus-one/help/ghost-touches-invisible-finger-t2832822
OPO tried to solve this by firmware updates but they still not fully able to manage it
New firmware with improved kernel solved lot more touch issues but draining battery a lot for most people's
So its u r decision buy or not to buy but three possibilities are
1) buy if u don't care about u r money if problem not got solved
2)buy if screen problem is not due to any hardware issues because if yes u have to replace whole screen which cost 200$
3)if its software problem then u should know most of android rooting/ flashing /custom roms/custom kernels to recover problems
If its software problem then these are some solution

I bought an oneplus one with a broken screen on ebay.
Bought an replacement display with frame and some cheap tools for 50€ on aliexpress.
Replaced the broken screen + frame withing one hour. It was my first attempt to open up a smartphone ever.
Only problematic part was the earpiece, which I almost destroyed.
And also the lower antenna (which is fixed with double sided adhesive tape) bent a little bit.
But besides that it was very easy to dismantle the Oneplus One and to replace the screen/frame combo.
Compared to my other One the new screen looks absolutely identical. Only the earpiece grille is slightly different.
So. My conclusion. If your are able to unscrew a smartphone and are not completely lacking fine motoric skills, you can have a cheap Oneplus One. Watch the tutorials vids on youtube and the photos on ifixit.
cheers!
Edit:
Ah and yes. With my One the screen was shattered and not working.
So I have to agree to my previous speaker. It could also be some other part of the hardware not working. It's always a risk. But I assume, that by replacing the whole screen/frame, probably the digitizer problems should be solved.

I also wanted to mention that I also experienced ghost touch issues with my first Oneplus One.
Thats why I orderd a replacement screen in the first place. Then, in the meantime, until the display arrived, Oneplus released a firmware update and my ghost touch issues vanished.
But. I never had parts completely not responding on my screen. It was "only" a ghost touch issue.
i have it
Hey guys, i finally bought thé phone and the u, thé j and the n keys works 1 out of 10 times. Si it is not completely broke. How tout dix that?
Download YAMTT from play store. Test if you can paint everywhere on the screen.
yamtt
no I can't there is a small bar on the right that is not working
Probably a broken digitizer. I.'ve never read of anybody fixing this with a Software update. On the other hand, I'm not an expert...

Any build issues?

Some people already have their devices so I wanted to know about the build quality and any problems with it.
I'm interested in the screen quality, especially any issues like the red/pink tint that affected many HTC 10 panels last year. Hopefully HTC has improved in this area.
Another issue with the HTC 10 (at least the units I tried) was a very loud vibration motor which made haptic feedback pretty annoying in quiet places (library, office, etc.), is this happening with the new phone?

I've no issues and very happy so far (day 3).
Quality is superb just like my HTC 10.
The screen has no noticeable tints and the quality is great. The screen is brighter than the HTC 10 and photos and video are fantastic when viewed on it. Viewing outside is better than the HTC 10, and the screen can be viewed in portrait with polarised sunglasses (unlike many phones and the HTC 10.
The haptic feedback on my HTC 10 is a little too strong for sure, but this U11 is less obtrusive and I think about right.
All in all, it's a good upgrade from the HTC 10, has great build quality, and I think it's great - very happy.
PhoneArena review mentioned a build issue, but it might only affect pre-production devices:
"On the two U11 handsets we examined during this review, each had one edge where the phone's back glass met the metal frame and there was a pronounced sharpness to the transition – while the other side was perfectly smooth. But with each phone we looked at, this sharp edge was on a different side – just not very consistent. "
Please tell us there won't be any of the dreaded yellow tinted screens?! It took me 3 HTC 10's to finally get a good one.
my one is same as M10 last year
red tint screen since the auto brightness is below around 60%
Thanks for the input guys, I just ordered my U1 1 and will comment on the build quality when I get it.
Very few reviews and owners seem to be mentioning tint issues so apparently this is not as much of a problem as last year.
I think it has some build issues (gaps between the frame and the glass) more than a tint issue.

That's good but I was asking for people that may have build issues. Mine is on its way back to HTC.
Every phone I've had (all HTC) have all had loud vibrators come the 12 month mark.
What I do find bothersome though is when starting up the camera it skips and shudders so bad it's unusable. I'm on my 2nd device (first one literally all of a sudden had an entire screen length crack under the glass) and both have had the same issue. Really hoping HTC fixes soon.

Mine is the 6 GB RAM version and I've issues with the screen. Near the bottom border there's an abnormal pixel (it changes according to the color but is bigger than the rest) and there're some shadows at bottom border from left to right, similar to light bleeding issue. Thankfully both defects are at bottom and they're no so visible but it still bothers me. I can return the device to Hong Kong in order to receive a new one but what happen if defective pixel is at the center of the screen? It can be worst.

It's like the video. Take a look at the left bottom part of the phone. There are some shadows, the light is not uniform. Look at this carefully as the problem appears only few seconds.
Anyway the store acceded to give me a 10% discount for the flaw as sending back from Chile to Hong Kong is a PITA.
Apart of screen issues the phone totally worth the upgrade in comparison with HTC 10. It's better than S8+ too. I returned an S8 because it was restarting randomly. I should say that S8 screen, at least my unit had a pinkish tone at bottom and superior border and also at both edges. It wasn't a zero flaws screen too.

A power button that moves a little. I don't know....doesn't bother me, that's all. Not many power buttons are completely sturdy, unless they don't protrude as much.

Every U11 I've seen in reviews (and my own) has this problem, a white background is never uniform at the bottom of the screen, so it was wise not to ask for a replacement and accept the discount lol

Yes, apparently most if not all HTC U11 have this "light bleeding" issue. Anyway, I take the 10% discount due to the defective pixel I've and that the upper speaker is not as clear as HTC 10. It sounds good but it has a little background noise during calls (Skype, WhatsApp and normal calls). Even with those issue it's an excellent phone and the best from HTC so far. It's superior to S8+ in my opinion and I owned both devices.
For the screen issues please look at the pictures I'm attaching.

Frustrated With Pink Line On Display.

Hey guys i am making this thread just to get in touch with all the Samsung S7 Edge India users who are facing this annoying PINK LINE on screen issue.
As we all purchased this costly flagship phone with our hard earned money and now we are facing the Pink Line issue which is completely Samsung Manufacturing Defect as we all know, Those who are in warranty will get their display replacement in free even i got it replaced in free of cost but after 8 months, again i am facing the same issue and now i am out of warranty so this ****ty company is asking me to pay 14k for display replacement. Even if i pay 14k for display replacement then also i will be getting this Pink Line issue again because it is a hardware issue (Manufacturing defect).
So now i am thinking to make a group of all the S7 Edge Indian users who are facing same issue to file a case against Samsung in consumer court. If we all make a unity and fight for it then we can win the case easily as we have genuine reason.
So if you guys are ready then drop your whatsapp number in comment section of this thread and i will make a group and add you up. Thanks
Lol
Seems like no one is facing Pink Line on display issue ?
Yep. Never had issues with my phones. Realy peed off by this and it seems to be getting worse. I'm sure any upgrade in February, so holding out for the s9 and hopefully get something with it, like the vr headset I got with the s7. Just hoping this issue doesn't get much worse before then!
I don't live in India, but I had the same problem and it was getting worse. There is no solution for it except replacing the screen. They said they can change or move the port for the screen connector but there's a risk of breaking the screen and it needs a special device to do it which was not available in Egypt.
Samsung issued a screen replacement program international, but when I asked about this in Egypt, Samsung Egypt laughed at me and said something like: Are you crazy to believe this crap?
Anyway, good luck with it...
Bro i am from india and plz tell me what to now

It's interesting that this seemed to work... at least for now.
For a hardware based issue, I don't understand why this would work...
Try the flashing colour solutions
Try some pressure at Samsung logo
Try to get warranty fix by Samsung if your phone isn't damaged

This is not a permanent solution, and after sometime the pink line will be permanent.
same here brother , i too have this problem and now i hate it. its because of the hardware i think its neither a software issue nor the display its the defect of samsung making.
Have the same problem with our S7 edge.
Pressing it from camera or samsung logo will make it worse .Everyone is frustrated.just dont buy any Samsung device from now on
When you say reset the screen bits what do you mean? How do I do that?
look on YouTube. there are multiple solutions for pink line. I hope you come out
These are not "Solutions".
The flex cable gets weak, you can open up the phone and put some paper behind the screen Ribbon cable, but even this is not a permanent fix.
The screen Ribbon cable cracks at some Point and the Display is toast. you can do Nothing About it.
And the *#0*# "reset" is not a reset, you are only showing solid Colors to test the screen which sometimes can temporarly weaken the Problem because of high brightness and solid Colors. but this is not a fix in any mean.
Here you can see the Problem, for better understanding: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IAgXTqmoNbM
I've faced this twice, first time replaced under warranty. Second time popped up post warranty period. After months of desperately pursuing all the way till the CEO's office, I had to get it replaced at my own cost.
Conclusion: they just don't care! Get it replaced or change the phone and save yourself some peace of mind, time and hassle.

Severe image retention/"burn in" problem with Redmi Note 5 Pro! LQ Panels

I'm creating this thread to spread awareness, Xiaomi is using really low quality panels for the RMN5P, I got the phone and on day ONE, using official MIUI, my screen got the google keyboard G logo and the on-screen keys burned-in or persisting in the screen like in the attachment, that's the G logo in GBoard, I have to admit I'm very disappointed by Xiaomi on this one, if you have the same issue I encourage you to share it on this thread, and to also let Xiaomi know about this on the miui forums, thank you.
Edit: I got my device replaced and the new one does it as well 2 broken devices total
Don't have this problem, using it for 3 days since tuesday.
don't have this problem with almost one month usage

Thank you for your input guys but obviously not everyone is going to get bad panels, the issue is that Xiaomi is selling some phones with completely unacceptable panels and they have to become aware of it, I can't believe I got a brand new phone and images are retained on the screen from day one, and I'm not the only one, it has also been mentioned here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/redmi-note-5-pro/help/3-days-usage-burn-t3793599
I don't have this issue. I've turned on display for 30 minutes on full brightness at the home screen only. And don't have image retention. I have Tianma TD4310 panel. I'm also checking cause I'm still on warranty.
It would help people to contribute to this problem if someone would post how users can find out which panel they have. I´ve heard the Aida64 app could do it, but I don´t see the panel manufacturer listed anywhere....
This usually happens on tianma displays
heres a little neat trick to avoid this
Turn on Reading mode and set the calibration to 1/4 so that it wouldnt be too yellow, tadah no more retention
^ It's a known fact.
You can either do what he said or you can use a custom rom (wait for one with kcal), go to display settings, color calibration and from 100% go to 95% to all the colors. You will have slightly lower brightness but no color retention.

True
Have the same problem with Mi A1 [Tianma Panel]
Service center rejected my claim that it is software issue (They downgraded OS to Nougat - Their solution)
Its there even with Nougat, have to get display panel replaced before warranty expires
Very very true
No one should buy this crap. barely 2 months of usage and the screen burn in is severe, image retention everywhere I'm very pissed at xiaomi for doing this.
Also got tianma td4310 panel but luckily no burn in after 2 weeks as I don't have mi service centers in my country
I have same problem... Help plz
This also happened to me using a Redmi 5 Plus. Yours is whyred, right?
How can I check which panel I have?

Type *#*#6484#*#* in the Xiaomi dialer
Ive got tianma. No image retention.
It does have crappy motion clarity tho. Albeit still much better than redmi note 4.
I had the same problem, I send back my note 5 and bought a Oneplus 6. In 60 min i had already ghosting.
To bad, nice phone but a ghosting is not done for me.
Panel was a tianma td4310.
U can test it by yourself, set it for like 15 min on 1 app and focus on some thing I went back to Twitter night view and I saw some details of the previous app on it.
A shame, the tiamma panels on the note 4 had the same problem aswell.
Maybe I wait for the Mi 8 and trade my oneplus in. But the notch is to big to display notification icons....
