Lost twrp after miui 10 update - Xiaomi Redmi Note 6 Pro Questions & Answers

Hi, i have a problem with twrp. Lately i bought a Redmi Note 6 Pro, i waited the normal 15 days to unlock the bootloader, then I unlocked it and i flashed twrp, root, etc... The problem is that after the first update i made (MIUI 10 stable update) i lost root (which i think it's normal) and the twrp. TWRP recovery got overwritten by the default xiaomi recovery. How can i fix this? Because it's impossible to install twrp back after every update, i would have to format it evey time because of the locked internal storage! I'll leave some info below.
Ah and btw i tryed again yesterday with a new update and it happened again, so it wasn't just a one-time thing.
Phone: Redmi Note 6 Pro 4+64
MIUI version: MIUI Global 10.2 | Stable | 10.2.2.0(OEKMIXM) last version, i updated yesterday
TWRP used: unofficial twrp, the official one isn't out yet for my device. If it's needed i can send the iso or something

Does it work for you or you lose it as well after update? Thank you anyway

Will this twrp work for latest version??

I lost root and TWRP after updating too.

I heard that everytime you update your phone, it replaces the TWRP and disable root. That's one of the reasons I will wait more before root my phone.

Guys i'm working hard to find a solution. If i find it i'll tell you. Please do the same if you find something

I think you'll need to do everything again (install TWRP and root).

The bad part isn't re-installing twrp or root. It's that every time you do that you MUST format the data because insthead you wouldn't have access to internal storage from twrp, and that makes it impossible to flash anything

That's indeed the worst part. Better to wait for a recovery that can decrypt internal storage permanently.

After flashing stock miui you have to flash disable vm cause the stock miui will replace the recovery with the stock one!

You all should learn about these topics more or stop experimenting with half knowledge.
When you are installing/ flashing any full MIUI ROM, you are also flashing the stock recovery that comes with MIUI. So it's natural that TWRP will get replaced.
So after flashing a new ROM, always flash TWRP and Lazyflasher too.
Always install/ flash a new ROM via TWRP and not through the System Updater app.
Hope this helped.

Flash TWRP then flash this : https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/software/universal-dm-verity-forceencrypt-t3817389

for euopean country you should use EU rom, weekly OTA update and flashed by TWRP automatically,
only Magisk must be flashed again for root,
maybe for chinese developer rom it is the same procedure ?

Lost root

I had this problem before. when you flash twrp, try to reboot to twrp again. then the twrp won't be flashed by stock recovery.

is it possible to upgrade from pie hos to a10 oos using local update?

hello there.
sorry for making a new thread .. ive asked my question multiple times no one answered properly. so here's the situation:
just received the phone from china . i'm on android pie hos. and want to update to ob7 . having root and twrp is it the right way to do it? :
1. update to ob7 using local update and full zip file.
2. unlock the bootloader and flash twrp 70 (or 74 i'm not sure?) using adb
3. flash magisk and twrp installer in twrp recovery
4. done!
i heared its better to use twrp 70 and dont know the reason. whats wrong with the latest version?
Not sure if that will work, but locally upgrading from h2OS to OOS worked on my old op6 when I had it.
If it does not work;
Backup your files first then you need to unlock your bootloader.
Then boot twrp via command prompt. Once booted into twrp. Wipe data and do a factory reset there. Flash twrp installer then reboot into recovery.
Flash OB7, twrp installer and magisk then reboot to recovery again and flash ob7, twrp installer and magisk then reboot to system
I'm using .74
Not sure what the problem is/are.
Regards

Which route you want to follow twrp or official? If its official i'd say try the msm tool.. That will put you on oldest pie and then you can do OTA..
Twrp is self explanatory..

Installing Magisk on stock global miui

Since kernel releases are yet to be published " a total duck move by xiaomi ?" I wanted to keep on using the stock ROM without changing anything but miui is too cringy for me to live with it, so I need to put the ol'rooting hat once again
My question is.. did any one actually root it using magisk and can still get ota , or you would need to uninstall magisk then update then get magisk again?
Also what happens to TWRP , can it coexist with miui ?
I had a previous xiaomi phone (mido) but tbh I never even thought of using the miui and switched to RR once I unlocked the bootloader ?
You can get ota with magisk but updating will rewrite boot and recovery so you'll need to re-root.

FYI, I'm still on stock EU v12.0.3.0 with mauronofrio TWRP and rooted with Magisk.
I got two OTAs already, the last with v12.0.4.0 -- and it even tried to apply one of them while I wasn't looking but it obviously failed, since there's no stock recovery.

What if I reflash the stock recovery.img after rooting, that might get the ota working ?
Yes I know I would still have to flash twrp and magisk again after it
I'll test it on my old phone first , hope it can work as a reference for one last time of it's miserable life

Still the same, just flash the root file and reboot it up... And also install magisk manager to have root management
Orange Fox is much more recommended for our Poco by ManoloRey for installing AOSP ROMS...

2nd attempt to upgrade to 12.2.4.0 from 12.0.4.0 failed and resulting in storage wipe

Hi,
I would like to know if anybody encountered this. This is my second time encountering this issue. I was on 12.0.4 and received a notification to perform update to 12.4.0. After downloading and rebooting, my twrp launched and after a few seconds instead of flashing, it went to the main menu page. After that, the phone just goes to fastboot mode and refused to boot. My phone has been rooted with magisk. Much appreciated for experts inputs.
The only way for me to boot my phone is to do a clean flash using mi flash tool and fallback to the old version...
Thank you.

V12.0.4.0.QJKMIXM is a android 10 stable rom and V12.2.4.0.RJKMIXM is a android 11 stable beta rom which has many bugs.
V12.2.4.0.RJKEUXM is a stable rom that you can flash with miflash(but EEA not global).
After successfully going to v12.2.4.0, now I am finding that my current TWRP 3.4.1b unable to decrypt the phone thus not able to root it. I guess I have to fall back to 12.0.4.0 to be safe... I was tempted to go to 12.2.4.0 due to android 11 but looks like it's too problematic now due to beta. I was actually wondering why beta was pushed to me.

Yes i am able to successfully flashed twrp via fastboot afterward and directly proceed to root using magisk.
Everything works as usual, except, for me atleast, twrp now require pattern-type (3x3 dot) as password for decryption. Pin or character doesnt works.
Deleted.
To solve update problem you need to Rollback to stable stock rom, I used this:
Code:
lmi_global_images_V12.2.4.0.RJKMIXM_20201228.0000.00_11.0_global
extracted it.
then used mi flash from this toolkit:
Code:

sorry, but I cant provide links to downloads.

The first is stock rom intended for the European continent.
The second is a custom rom based on Chinese firmware with many modifications and latest developments.
Better than stock.

Change version to stock rom(EEA to Global, etc) or install Xiaomi EU rom requires bootloader to be unlocked.
It is better to install the first ROM or the second one. Bootloader is unlocked. And I have a second ROM installed. Should I reinstall it? And I have to format in TWRP? Thanks for the answers.

Use Miflash:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/t/flash-tool-guide-use-xiaomi-flash-tool.4262425/
DONT RELOCK THE BOOTLOADER

With a stock rom and a bootloader unlocking the play will not be certified.

You want to be up to date with the latest rom so why did you install an EEA rom when there is a stable global beta in A13.
https://xiaomifirmwareupdater.com/miui/cupid/
You have problems with the TWRP and you want to root and use modules, if you are a beginner these are not really things to do, with the root an error and the phone is broken.
Prevention is better than cure.
