Kirin 980 kernel source released - Huawei Mate 20 X Guides, News, & Discussion

Seems like a good news and probably this means that we'll be able to see custom roms soon!
Even stock treble rom flashed onto AL00 would be wonderful

This has been out for a while. Anything compiled from source doesn't boot. Not really too many devs into the 20X either.

Unfortunately I don't think any recently released Huawei 'Kernel sources' are of any use.
Inverted commas because none of them are actually the sources that the device kernels use, so none of them will boot from the disclosed kernel sources.
This is obviously on purpose, and Huawei are hiding something.

Is that even legal?

Check the link for latest updates for EU ROM, posted in the Guide.
I've updated to 7.1 19 and I can confirm that it is stable. No issues noticed so far. There wont be updates for the next two weeks until the Spring festival is over in China.

Use Epic Rom instead. The Dev uses the 7.1.19 base for his rom but he made it compatible with TWRP

I'm using Epic currently as I have just updated to 7.1.19
For everyone with touch issues, you can use working recovery from this post (Part 4) http://en.miui.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=471497

Nah, no offense to the Dev but after a long history of flashing custom roms I have come to the conclusion that they are almost always, worse.

Well, CyanogenMod was a custom OS\ROM\Whatever you'd like to call it, but it wasn't something that most phones shipped with. And it turned out to be the most preferred Custom Android ROM, with custom ROMS being based on CM.
I would close my eyes and buy a device if I knew it had official support for CM (LineageOS). I bet most people would.
Apart from issues with their management and rebranding to LineageOS, I don't see what's bad or "worse" with it. Just saying that "Worse" is a strong way to put it.
I do agree that some custom ROMS, no matter how stable have a few bugs\drawbacks occasionally, but so does the stock ROMS.
It is custom ROMS that use a lot of MODS which are generally more prone to stability issues. By mods, I'm referring to certain features like Bravia Engine\ Dolby Atmos ported from another device.
I cant comment on the EPIC ROM as I haven't tried it. But from what other users are saying here, it seems to be a pretty decent and stable ROM, despite having a few extra MODS.

That's why I said almost always. CM and PA were two that could be relied upon for stability.

Custom kernel for 2.18 once source released.

Hi, i have been learning about developing custom kernels, I plan on editing the stock one so that it is still compatible with LineageOS and stock for 2.18/nougat firmware once released, while still including features and tweaks. What are some features/tweaks you guys would want? Mostly I plan on focusing on speed by removing verification, and eliminating un-neccesary htc crap.

If anything make two different versions of it helps you with any ideas. Basically make one that is absolutely stock other than removal of unneeded stuff from HTC and whatever you like... on the other version add in battery tweaks, allow overclocking/unlocked voltages and add some of the custom governors in etc etc etc..

It would be really cool to see some fingerprint gestures...
I'd love to see the charging led disabled and the MMS sending size increased.

This is already achievable with magisk hide, and any ROM of your liking with phhs superuser. I will however remove verification for the kernel.

I am on Android 7.0, so how can I root. Once I do root it, which version of magisk do I use
I also appreciate a custom kernel for the A9.
OC/UC (for playing around a little bit) and Voltages would be nice.
Some custom govenors and all the things you want to add. .
Looking forward to it...:good:

Also, thanks to everyone for their input, I will begin work as soon as the source code is released for 2.18
Is there any news on when the source code is becoming available?

No, not really, just be patient. Anyway, I'm gonna need the time to learn to perfect kernels for my a9 before the kernel is made.

Kernel source release?

HTC might need a gentle reminder about releasing kernel sources, none of the U series have been released yet, they are required for us to support SlimRoms/LineageOS/aosp/caf style ROMs.
I've tweeted at htcdev etc...
Nick.

I didnĀ“t even know HTC never released kernel source for U Ultra etc. I thought they had a good record releasing source code (well, sometimes a bit late but...)
One of my intentions when buying U11 was to create a kernel for the ocean after I took the trip to the Pixel XL and created my first kernel there.

Yes, hopefully next week
I just noticed they added kernel source of u play.
Also a search category for android 7.1 appeared which is still empty. Previously highest was 7.0.
Fingers crossed it's for the 11.
At least TWRP is fully working without it on this device. So I need it less than you kernel/AOSP devs this time around .
I emailed htcdev and asked about all U series kernel source. They said it had been passed on. May just be coincidence though

Heh they snuck that out in the few hours of sleep I had last night! Funny they released Vodafone UK source when they don't seem to be stocking the phone! I've been playing with building using the stock kernel. The biggest problem I'm having is actually restoring my stock backup afterwards. /Data either won't restore or when I do fully wipe it and get it to restore it won't accept my unlock code/pattern/fingerprint anymore.
Setting the phone up from scratch every time you test is a pita!
https://github.com/htc-msm8998/kernel_htc_msm8998
Is it relevant that there still no US unlocked & sprint variations kernel source?
Sent from my HTC U11 using XDA Labs
I expect they will come, but it looks like it's fully interchangeable currently, at least I've been running the europe unlocked boot.img on my EE UK single sim device without issue. I've just built it and it's running also.

Ouch, that sounds bad. I'm not sure when I'll start hacking, my vacation is very close and by then I guess most features might be already done and ported for sense kernels.. tho the new soc may add some pain to the equation of simple patching

Stable 6x Rom for daily driver? With hotspot auth bypass?

My carrier/MVNO is Cricket/ATT. Phone is Honor 6x with EMUI 5. Bootloader unlocked and rooted.
I need to find a stable, everything working, ROM that will also bypass wifi hotspot authentication.
Can anyone point me to what I am looking for?
Thank you!
At the moment, it's really difficult to advise a perfectly stable rom for using it as daily driver, by my PERSONAL point of view. Even if all ROMs are marked as "stable" in OP, browse their relative threads to read some about and make yourself an idea of what you'd like to run as daily driver. There are some bugs, while some of them is common in all the ROMs due to lack of source files, others are rom related only. I immediately look to new roms inserted in this section and until now, I'm still on stock against my motivation to going on custom. The roms that I'm monitoring at the moment are LineageOS, AOSP, OctOS, and crDroid.
Reassuming, i just still miss that feeling of safety that motivates me to going on one of the roms listed here actually; this is my only one phone, and messing up bad would be a real pain in the ***, even if I've done much experience about recovering a bricked phone due various motives, Huawei is a complicated world. Plus, custom camera quality is still incomparable to stock camera quality, so I'll stay on stock for a while, monitoring progresses on custom development. Hope to see the common bugs fixed, sooner or later... devs are surely working hard, and custom development on 6X meshed much lately, so the best has yet to come, developers are making all this just for free, so I'm looking forward for updates
Add this line to the build.prop
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true
I have not yet been able to find a ROM for the 6x that is stable enough for daily driver use. In fact, I've run in to issues even installing most of them. Currently unlocked/rooted on EMUI and even my reflash to stock was broken and EMUI ROM is missing things. I regret buying this phone.
Edit: To clarify, that is the phone's fault. Not the Devs. The Devs are doing the best they can with what they've got.
Been on eliterom for awhile now and its rock solid.

Has it been verified that this works on the 6x? In my research I thought I read where that does not work on the 6x.......But I'll give it a go!
Thank you for the help!

If it's there, delete the ATTEntitle folder in /system/app
Thanks for all the info and help everyone. Unfortunately nothing has worked yet.
The ATTEntitle folder does not exist. That is the mod that worked on my Honor 5x which is Android 5 EMUI 4.1 So my plan is to flash the Honor 6x back to Firmware Berlin-L24HN, C567B110, Android 6.0_EMUI 4.1 US and then delete ATTEntitle.

Decent Roms

Few months in now I thought development would have gone a bit faster than this. I have to doubt we'll have a large collection now. But can anyone say what rom they have been using. And has anyone tried dirty unicorns? Whats that like? Cant fjnd any vids on youtube
I made a guide and compiled AOSP, with the edition of certain proprietary files that unlock various stock features. I posted it here. Unofficial Lineage works reasonably well too.

Mainly it allows T mobile VoLTE and WiFi calling to work, and I suspect allows it to work on other services too. Also hopefully will get the eSIM to work too.
