8th gen 8 inch - Fire HD 8 and HD 10 General

so i got an 8th gen fire hd for Christmas and at the moment it is charging because it was dead dead. should i just use the tablet as normal or anyway to block OTA updates? or should i just use the device as offline tablet untill a rooting method is found? what think chances are rooting method would work on older FW but not newer even though exploit not yet released.

so mine and my moms tablet both shipped with 6.3.0.0 but im confused both have same FW versions but my moms has 27 apps pre installed and mine got only 22 preinstalled both have not been connected to net.

Hello I'm on the Chinese mate 9 recently updated to latest firmware B175 and never tried Android Pay before but I wanted to give a try and for some reason is throwing the following error, see screen capture for it.
Any advice will be appreciated.

Have you made sure that your device isn't actually rooted, or has an unlocked bootloader then?

It's working now. From my experience, every time there's an update for the Chinese version, Android pay will stop working for a few days (usually less than a week). So if you want your Android pay to work without interruption, just wait a week a so after you receive the notice for a fw update.

Help Y01 tablet ,still working previous owner had issued recall

I currently have a shield tablet Y01 ,its on stock Nougat (5.1 ota update). not rooted or bootloader unlocked
Previous owner did the recall and new tablet will be here in 3-4 weeks , so tablet is currently working
What can I do to make sure this isnt killed ?
Need a n00b guide really as havent flashed anything since a htc desire
no one ??
Root, then use a root explorer to delete TegraOTA.apk.
Root guide is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2399737
TegraOTA guide is here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/shield-tablet/general/kill-kill-switch-shield-tablet-xx-t3179489
Alternatively, you can flash any custom ROM. They will prevent the tablet from updating as well.
So... The old killswitch-killer still works on Nougat? I could flash the nvidia stock, delete the TegraOTA.apk and go on with the newest official nvidia version?

Yup, did it successfully yesterday also. After stumbling onto this thread, i was encouraged enough... Went pretty smooth.
BTW, newest FullOTA (WiFi) is available directly from nvidia servers, as An Droid mentions here: http://ota-downloads.nvidia.com/ota...-full_ota-1928188_850.6612.20170219210839.zip
Hello,
Sorry for up this last thread, but I'm in the same position that the OP.
I have a pyro tablet on stock Nougat (the original owner did the recall) and it is still working (for 3 weeks). Is the kill switch disallowed for Nougat?
Should I unlock the bootloader and root it for remove the TegraOTA?
Thank you!

no, nothing. Rooting is limited to 7.3.1.0 also.
Any recommendations for making the thing run better ? 2 Gb of RQM must get filled fast and there is no task monitor to see what's going on.

i got my HD 10 tablet in October
soi think it is probably oon or below 7.3.1.0
so any FW at or below 7.3.1.0 should be rootable right ?
i have not switched on the tablet yet because i want to root and block updates before i put in the WIFI credentials
but this place is such a mess i can't find out how to do it
can you link me to a guide on how to get this thing setup and rooted without catching an update and how to disable the updates?
the mods need to totally revamp this whole section and crate separate sections for every single model and year revision
and make better stickies for essential information like this
this place is an unorganized mess

Yes you should be fine. Once you get to the wifi select, hit back. and then skip. You should be able to get into the OS without connecting to the Wifi, Do not connect to the network until you have installed the MTK-su root (with magisk) and have disabled updates. Once you get into the OS check the version. They were all shipping with 7.3.1.0 in October... If good go to this thread to get root and magisk, then search for disable (do not just click in development setting, it will still update)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/hd...xperimental-software-root-hd-8-hd-10-t3904595
Then do this for always root...

Message me for questions, i can walk you through it... Either renaming the update or disabling the OTA app seems to disable updating.. . Just do not connect to the internet until you have them blocked...

Galaxy Note 8 Update Question

Hey everyone, I'm relatively new here, so I'm hoping this is the proper section to post my question regarding my Note 8's inability to find an update. It's model number is SM-N950U, and baseband version N950USQS3BRB2 (AT&T). It has the stock 7.1.1 firmware, and it absolutely will not find any firmware updates when I search. It's driving me crazy because my other note 8 is updated to 9, however its screen is cracked to ****. And my old Note 8 is in perfect condition. Any info or tips would be great help. And again, I've tried looking through the forums at firmware links and lists, but I can't find any update files for my specific baseband version. I don't know if that matters or not. Anyways, thanks for anyone's time that helps.

You cannot update from the N950USQS3BRB2 firmware version that's why it's not finding anything. You need to manually update it yourself to the next update version which I think is N950USQU3CRC2 using Odin and then it'll be able to do it on it's own.
Hey Mike whats up bro. My Note 9 does this same thing. Seems that a lot of people with At&t have this issue. My 8 is still on BRK2 rooted, and will stay that way..lol.

Hey what's up brother!! I noticed that too and I think they're messing something up and then when they push the update out it's supposed to see a certain version to update from and if they mess up the version it's supposed to see by typos or something then it just doesn't update and then keeps saying you're on the latest firmware version even though you know you're not lol.. Usually when I run into that problem if you update it yourself to the next version it seems to clear the problem. Personally I don't like updating either because we all know that they're just putting a bunch of junk on the phone in order to make it get slower and slower to make us get annoyed with it and buy a new phone..

Thank you so much for your response. I manually updated it to CRC2 yesterday using ADB. Now it's at version 8. The whole reason I was wanting to update it was because of the PIP feature in 8. Now i just have to get it updated to 9. But it's still not finding an update when I search. So I may have to manually do it again.

Try downloading this version N950USQU4CRD7 and then see if it'll update on it's own.
You are right Mike, sometimes you have to get device on right path before it will process an OTA. Now me I am a little OCD and I would rather use Odin or firmware Science method to update. It's just something about OTA vs connection when updating that gets my OCD...lol

Android 10 on Retail US

Anyone know when/if Android 10 is coming to RETUS/Retail US? I'm on the XT1955-5 and this seems (from what I've seen) to be the most common model. I'm hoping that it will come soon because I like some of the newer features in Android 10, alongside the fact that the Settings will no longer burn my retinas. Thanks!
Unfortunately, there's no android 10 for retus yet... I'll let you know if i get any news about it
I'm in the USA but have retin. I've got the update and a June 1st patch for security already.
I have the June security update. Are you saying you got the Android 10 update via OTA?
retus & I got the June 1 security update but not 10.

I would do a custom ROM but I'm just sticking with official for now till Android 11 becomes old news.
Also because of the Google Safetynet stuff,
speaking of which, does anyone know if our device supports hardware-based safetynet?

Probably right. I guess there is a kind of work around to that by flashing certain imgs from another retail to retus. I haven't done it yet, but it sounds a lot like what happened a few yrs ago with my atrix hd and the razr hd. Atrix got left on 4.1.2, razr got 4.4.2, could flash some imgs from razr, without touching the bootloader, and i had moto's official 4.4.2 on my atrix. I believe its the same concept here with retus, but i haven't tried it yet.

Guess I'm lucky. I got the retin (India rom I guess) my phone updated to Android 10 about a month ago and I'm in Utah.
PSA: You can install the generic RETAIL firmware. It's much safer than flashing any region specific stuff.
