Is your bootloader unlocked? If not, thats why you can't get TWRP installed correctly.

I knew of it to begin with. I was replying about the issue getting TWRP installed more than I was replying about getting Magisk installed.
Typically, when you install TWRP but the device won't boot into system, it is usually because the bootloader is locked or because the TWRP file is faulty, a faulty file being the cause is far less common than a locked bootloader being the cause. That was really why I replied.

No, that is not as true as you think it is. There are a lot of things that linux can't do when a device has a locked bootloader, stock recovery and no root. Root makes a very big difference in what can and can't be done, linux or no linux.
But with fastboot and an unlocked bootloader, none of that matters, you don't even need linux, just adb/fastboot.

I'm not a developer, I'm just good at figuring out and using things that other people have developed and troubleshooting issues, there really isn't much I can help you with on this subject, but....
If there was a straightforward, all-in-one, everything you need to know guide out there, I would give you some links, but there aren't any guides that are truly thorough enough to teach you what you want to know. Most of the guides are written under the assumption that the reader already has some knowledge of software development and various computer languages and coding, that makes it difficult for someone that is trying to learn.
I would suggest doing a search for:
"XDA University"
There are several threads there that discuss various subjects dealing with android development. Ask questions in the threads that you think will help you learn what you are trying to learn.
Also, do a search for:
"Setting up android build environment"
That will show you the basic setup, but there will be other things that you will need to install, you will figure out the other things as you go along learning where to start, things such as using C++ and Java.

If I am not mistaken, it should just be:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Personally, I would wait for someone else to try it, first.
Perhaps its a bit harder to brick devices, nowadays, but I wouldn't want to risk it, myself.

Currently you can try either the phablet-4.2.2_r1 or phablet-4.4_r1 branches. The latter builds and boots but only the adb shell works, there still are bugs preventing Android and Ubuntu communicating (WIP as of Nov 21 2013)

Of course it supports lte. And if you're just rooted you'll get ota's. You'll lose root when you install it though

Assuming you meant "tweaks": If you modified any system files (or installed/modified a framework etc), you cannot take OTA update. It will likely fail. You will need to be completely stock (being rooted and/or custom recovery doesn't matter) - stock ROM, stock kernel

jd1639 gave you links to useful threads that you REALLY should read. Those threads cover a LOT of scenarios, and duplicating that information here in another thread is really not beneficial to the community. If you want to know how to do things right, read those threads - at least the first 2 posts in the two threads jd1639 linked to. Else, if things go wrong (because you didn't provide sufficient information in your thread), you are going to be creating a new thread "Help - my phone is stuck in bootloop"

Can you please run Antutu, the benchmarking apk. It would be amazing to get to see the score of the 2.2ghz octa core snapdragon chipset. I have the j3 emerge 327p, rooted and twrp installed (thanks to Ashyx for building twrp and making a way to decrypt data partition!!) I can say with an antutu score of over 28k its the best of the j3 models, so im very eager to check out. Also check out a dev names Messi2050, he developed the twrp for original boost and tmobile j7.
Does this device boot in permissive mode?!
So i find myself with bith a brand spanki g new sm-J327t and sm-j727p. Two pretty cool phones, same phone really. Ok seeing as no-one could be bothered to respond to my post I'm just gonna leave this here.
It may boot it may not? It may not even install if this device has a locked bootloader.
If it does then great, report any issues along with the recovery log.
If it doesn't then descriptive information is required along with screenshots where possible. Anybody who simply posts generic 'NOT WORKING' will be ignored.

You say it doesn't boot, but it clearly has, confused?
Also the errors I'm seeing is what I expected using the stock kernel.
The next build will be using a custom built kernel and all those issues should be fixed.
The internal storage won't mount until the /data partition is FORMATTED to remove encryption.
Thanks for testing and reporting.

I made the mistake of purchasing an Oppo A3s on an impulse and have just resorted to checking the xda site for updates. Over the last few months, it seems like there may have been some changes to the situation and I wanted to know if this root option was legitimate.
androidleaker(dot)com(forwardslash)unlock-bootloader-install-twrp-and-root-oppo-a3s
On other threads, it's been stated that one of the later colour os updates allowed unlocking of the bootloader and one user seemed to get it working?
"flash with .zip via install storage, zip flashable, fill it with emmc_appsboot, if you are having trouble getting through Qfill, I've tried oppo and the bootloader is disabled, and it works..."
I've never had to deal with a locked bootloader like this so any help is appreciated. the amount of bloatware on this thing is unbelievable.
