[DEV] Ubuntu Touch - Nexus 7 (2013) Android Development

I saw that Canonical added new branch phablet-4.4_r1 https://wiki.kubuntu.org/Touch/AOSPBuild
so I compiled it for FLO
Download
system http://d-h.st/sXM
kernel http://d-h.st/mSc
but we must flash also ubuntu files but I don't know which files
http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-touch/daily-preinstalled/
any help would be appreciated

Also curious what other files are needed to work. Will wait to try

I think it is a step in the right direction but i think we would still need the hardware specific package (trusty-preinstalled-touch-armel+flo.zip) to make it work

That is not what I'm talking bout... I'm saying that I think we would need "saucy-preinstalled-touch-armel+flo.zip" as the say on the website " Get the hardware specific zip and img files for your device from the Ubuntu cdimage server here, i.e. for a Nexus7 this is saucy-preinstalled-touch-armel+grouper.zip".

you don't understand me too.
saucy-preinstalled-touch-armel+grouper.zip in this zip package we have system files for grouper
We don't have official support for flo so I compiled it (system.img) and you can download it from first post

If I am not mistaken, it should just be:
Code:
fastboot flash boot boot.img
fastboot flash system system.img
Personally, I would wait for someone else to try it, first.
Perhaps its a bit harder to brick devices, nowadays, but I wouldn't want to risk it, myself.

It should be buggy but my question is does it fully boot and have the main things working like - WiFi, BT, Camera, Sound etc..

Would this be flashable via TWRP MultiROM?

its not a zip you cant flash it with recovery.
Can someone report what work and what not

I couldn't get it to boot with multirom. Installed without issue then pushed system.IMG and boot.IMG. every time I tried to boot off it everything would just revert back to the internal rom

Please read the important sentence:
Currently you can try either the phablet-4.2.2_r1 or phablet-4.4_r1 branches. The latter builds and boots but only the adb shell works, there still are bugs preventing Android and Ubuntu communicating (WIP as of Nov 21 2013)

So has anyone installed this? does it boot atleast?

[4.3][grouper & tilapia] STOCK ROOTED 4.3 (JWR66V) [Flashable Zip]

Hey guys, here is a flashable zip for the new Android 4.3 update.
Features
Still odexed to keep performance optimal
Rooted (Chainfire's special 4.3 SuperSU)
Busybox & Toolbox installed & symlinked
Added some useful tools such as vim, nano, openvpn, cpustats and more
Changed the boring nexus bootanimation to the Google Play edition devices animation
Downloads
GROUPER
Direct Download: http://d-h.st/aih - MD5 : 0e6d8b9f7039f73373680aafe4dd68d1
OR
Torrent: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/3856187/AOSP-4.3-JWR66V-grouper-rooted_Androguide.zip.torrent (thanks to @capcrunch)
TILAPIA
Direct Download: http://goo.im/devs/Androguide/Nexus7/Stock-Rooted-4.3/AOSP-4.3-JWR66V-tilapia-rooted_Androguide.zip
Instructions
Wipe /data, /cache & dalvik-cache (wiping /system is recommended, but not mandatory I guess)
Flash the ROM
If the recovery says the stock recovery might be flashed over and asks you to disable it, answer NO.
Reboot & Enjoy
Updating Bootloader/Radio
This is not mandatory.
If you want to update your bootloader or radio (radio is for tilapia only, obviously), here are the images:
Grouper:
bootloader: http://d-h.st/QFd
Tilapia
bootloader: http://d-h.st/4Gr
radio: http://d-h.st/XCW
You'll also need fastboot for your platform (just search on google or xda, or install the Android SDK).
I will not provide flashable zips for these as I do not believe it is safe to flash a bootloader via recovery (be it by using dd or by copying the raw image directly).
To update bootloader (replace XXX with grouper or tilapia depending on your model):
Code:
fastboot flash bootloader bootloader-[COLOR="DarkRed"]XXX[/COLOR]-4.23.img
To update radio
Code:
fastboot flash radio radio-tilapia-1231_0.18.0_0409.img
Tips
Titanium Backup users: Point TBU to /storage/emulated/legacy instead of /storage/emulated/0
If enough people request it I'll do the same for the 3G model.
Enjoy
First!!
Thank you!!!
EDIT:
I confirm the room is running very well and smooth
Great!
Will try it out now!
Thank you! :good:
Oh wow, not only are you amazing for putting this .zip together for us too lazy to figure out how to install the image itself, but if this keeps root, you are officially the best person in the world today. Many thanks.

Nope, if you want to update your bootloader you'll need to fastboot it, I attached the new bootloader to this post if you need it.
The fastboot command is

It probably wouldn't boot until you flash a compatible rom
EDIT: actually, the updater-script wouldn't let you install it, it checks in your current build.prop if ro.product.board is set to grouper

Here is an excerpt from the 4.3 build.prop:
Code:
ro.product.name=nakasi
ro.product.device=grouper
The nakasi/grouper thing isn't new, it's always been this way.
And obviously I tested it before uploading --'
However, I made a mistake by using ChainsDD's superuser binary & apk, I just saw that Chainfire created a special version of SuperSU that works on 4.3 as it apparently has some new restrictions to get root access working.
So I am currently re-uploading the rom with working root courtesy of Chainfire. Sorry about that guys.

I seriously doubt he would have posted a 3g (mobile) build for the grouper (wifi) .. I also wouldn't second guess someone nice enough to go out of their way to put this new flashable build out there for us either.. Make a backup, if it doesn't work, restore..
So flash the zip first then the bootloader in fastboot mode?

Flashed with n7 toolkit. Downloaded .tar to PC and placed it in the n7 toolkit backup folder. Started the toolkit chose "99", then option to flash factory image - unsure of option number at the moment. Used wildcard input for image then followed prompting. Yes it did a full format of data. No problems aware of.

It's not part of the factory image. It was the same case with JB. You need to wait for rom developers to enable it in custom roms.

I have ported roms in the past to Kindle Fire HD from the Nexus tabs. It's way easier to port than to build a rom from scratch. The tricky part is finding the easiest roms to work with.
Well I can't do either.

Well I would think that you would need a working custom recovery with external SD card support first. Though the big feature I am looking forward to is a kernel that supports Roehsoft Ram Expander (swap) which while it works fine on my S3 does not work at all on the Tab 4 7.0.

Hmm, I have no idea. Worked for me in one go. Maybe start over?

I already have root (by using vroot and then replacing the chinese app with supersu). Can I just flash TWRP with Rashr or do I need to redo the whole thing from scratch?

I resstored the device in odin to the latest factory firmware then flashed the twrp in odin, rebooted directly to recovery and flashed supersu. Rebooted to system, set up all my stuff and flashed the new twrp over the old twrp using rashr. I had to reboot once to set up rashr before i could flash but, it all worked perfectly for me

cant start over if it wont turn on at all and i believe the battery is dead and it wont charge.
ive read about this issue with other galaxy tabs (2,3) and i need to open up and disconnect battery, i will try this when i get home. i hope it does something after. i just got this thing.
i cant just flash the good twrp instead of one over the other?

I don't know. I'm just telling you what I did. I didn't try that way.

[XL]Multirom! Anyone up? Test 1

I recently ported MultiROM to Xperia M and I have the sources up and I am willing not to waste them.
Disclaimer : I am not responsible for anything that happens to you or your device after flashing this mod. Though, nothing generally happens when you do it right. Make backup, always.
I have ported it xperia M
Here are some files for testing
You need CM-12.1 installed to test this.
Links removed
RECOVERY.IMG - To be flashed on fota partition
XL_CM-kexec-xx-xx-xxxx.zip - To be flashed in recovery
multirom-xxxxxxxx-v31x-UNOFFICIAL-taoshan.zip - To be flashed in recovery
Next boot should come up with multirom menu
If it does, post screens, if doesn't , post last_kmsg.
Due to lack of my knowledge, I have dismissed this project.

Ok seems like it goes from sd_ext .... What kernel you used? Varuns Caf? (The official one) and varuns device tree? If yes you may get wrong device errors while flashing

I used sources and device tree from CM's repo
Doesn't matter, because I had removed assert from updater-script and no ROM flashing is required in here.
So all files must be good and compatible.
Hey, great job in compiling this. I want to try this out but what are the risks? Can I get hardbricked?
The recovery included in the recovery.img is Cyanogen Recovery.
So cannot able to flash those zips.
I heard MultiROM uses modded TWRP.
Please check

Yes that what i.meaned ^^ you flashed this im in FOTAKernel dont you? Then my recovery will be overrided and if his recovery fails to load the kernelinbuild (cm) will be loaded....
The common cm device tree is not able to build a twrp properly... Im building with omnirom and a "changed" varun tree

Ohk I did not know about invalid recovery in fota partition would result in loading recovery from boot partition.
And its really a nice idea of you compiling modded TWRP, as soon as you are done, feel free to share as I am ready with other zips

i did have a look at this recovery.img ... its definitly a TWRP build... but its damn wrong.... wrong qcom.fstab and recovery.fstab ... NO twrp.fstab ... healthhd seems to have wrong size (ok im not 100% with that but experience says it must be bigger) ... the Size of theme images is wrong.... AND the ramdisk size is totally above the size the kernel will load... thats why it leads to a "broken" recovery-load .... that will lead to a emergency load of kernel-inbuild recovery....
@ OP didnt you got make errors? after seeing this im sure you have build with -i -k
---------- Post added at 08:36 AM ---------- Previous post was at 08:22 AM ----------
ok without any kind of warranty that this will work... i have manipulated this recovery.img (NOT BUILD FROM SOURCE! MANUALLY REPAIR! ) ... maybe this works maybe not....
like you know my device is gone atm.... so maybe if my device is back i will have a deeper look into this...

By making blind builds, you do "waste" the source code.

No, definitely not. He just used my sources (XperiaMultiROM) to compile it, which is a piece of cake. Honestly, if porting MultiROM was just a matter of compiling, monkeys could do it too.
OP: Blind builds are not encouraged on XDA. Especially when they're untested and broken.
And no, this shouldn't hardbrick your phone. You'll need to reflash your kernel and the system partition in the worst case.

Thank You.

To everyone:
I am sorry for doing it all wrong and blindly. I just had ported to a similar device and had it working perfectly.
Never knew CM sources wouldn't work for XL. Basically I trusted on CM people for device tree and kernel, which I shouldn't have definitely.
If anyone feels to, can apply for closing down the thread. I have other devices, I'll try getting it to work on them.
Thank you
