I am new to the Mate 9. So far I used to always run a Nexus device as my daily driver but when my Nexus 6P suffered from a "boot loop of death" I bought a Mate 9 instead.
I am wondering though: Will the Mate 9 ever get to see Android O? Or will Android 7.1 be the max for this phone?
What do you think?
I came from the nexus 6p as well. I fully expected not to get many future updates. I knew this going into the purchase.
I do think Mate 9 gets O but it won't be right away.
I'm already running Android O on it, albeit an internal developer build, so it's definitely coming.
Huawei is not known to keep their phones "up to date".
I ran a Mate2, for over a year on 4.3 JB before they updated it to 5.0LL
I bought a Mate8 in November, and it just received Android 7 last week.
I'm not that concerned though. I know going in, that unless you have an Apple
device, or a Google device, most phone rarely get updates past perhaps one
version. Huawei is no different.

Depends on which region you were in, and if you did it "officially" through the built in updater application,
or used something like Firmware finder, or, hacked your way into installing a beta.
I waited for it to hit "officially". Firmware finder never did work, although it did work for some.
I prefer the official channels.

Does it include new updated binaries in /vendor/* ?

Short answer: It'll get Android O
At least its planned and its on the roadmap, and Huawei engineers are working on it.

My Mix 2s is on the way and I'm excited to get it. I'm just wondering how is Xiaomi with supporting their phones? Do they tend to be one upgrade of Android then done? How are they with security updates? I've wanted a mi mix since the first but only now had the money to snag one. Coming from the V20 while a great phone in it's day - LG never updated it from 7.0 and I've gotten only a couple of security updates. I'll keep it as a backup for the moment because it has literally everything but wireless charging.
Since I bought my mix 2s in may I've received about 2 updates. Currently waiting for miui10

The list of MIUI 10 is quite long,
so compared to others I would say they update longer.
I will also buy Mix2s for several reasons and this is one of them
Xiaomi is known for supporting their phones very long but you have to keep in mind that Miui doesn't follow android versions. There are phones with lollipop and miui 9
I'm think Xiaomi is losing the momentum.
Looks like too much to Samsung. A Lot of devices and a slow Update times.

So what... There will always be bugs, delays on every phone, android version. Even pixel phones have bugs and delays. All this constant conversation about timely updates is just a WASTE of time... By a pixel phone or other one

No need to rant here like what people are doing in MIUI Forums (but that site is beyond cancerous). They are "working hard" to deliver Android 8.1 with June patch that's why it takes too long. Sources say that developers just pushed another beta update today.

No rant. Its the same here on xda and this is another thread asking something that is totally irrelevant. The update may come, it may be postponned or even delivered today. Its life... Search the forum and each month because of updates threads start popping out like rabbits asking the same thing... ITS JUST A PHONE!

I agree, this kind of poisonous nonsense should be removed from the xda-forums just like the ones posting it. I deleted my account on the MIUI forums because it's horrible and hard to find anything informative because of sh*tposts like these. Also, the Mi A1 is living up to the Android One program and then some so people shouldn't complain at all:
- 1 major update => received
- several smaller security updates => received
- 18 months of software support => no indication that we'll be denied of that
Aside from that we will probably get a second major update, it seems like we'll get a minor update (8.1) and we've been given a security update every single month. Nothing to complain about.
I bought this phone a few weeks ago and when i entered mi a1's miui forum it was in a real mess. Jeez, apart from the stock rom(1 major upgrade left 8.1(maybe) -> 9) there are official custom roms, kernels and even guides for treble! Also no matter which phone, rom and company there will be ALWAYS bugs with it.
just received the june security update... 1157.5 MB. guess it's 8.1.0
Good news guys, June update of 1157.5 MB is now available. downloading it at the moment on my phone.

Thread closed,
Threads like these offer nothing useful and they quickly turn into a flame war. Wait patiently or go with a new manufacture.

With this finally being released, do you think we'll get the update on our devices or will we be stuck on Oreo
Sometime next year maybe.
Of course the P20 Pro will get Android 9. It would be a huge embarrassment for Huawei if it didn’t. I‘m pretty confident it will happen, maybe even in late 2018. I‘m secretly also hoping for Android 10.
I hope it does, but with how Huawei updates phones I have feeling we may not see it anytime within the next 6 - 12 months. Look at the mate 10 Pro, still no Oreo 8.1 and how long as that been out.

When I spoke to an Huawei rep they said we're guaranteed one major update so technically yes, we will get Android 9.
I got Oreo on my mate 9 one year later in dec 2017. So I presume we will get pie by April 2018.
This is their reply (UK) when asked about if for P20 Pro and Mate 10 Pro
I have verified and currently we do not have information if the two devices you mentioned will receive the Android P update

But then getting information from them is dismal.

Seeing how various huawei devices are getting their oreo (not 8.1 maybe, but still, it got a major version upgrade), i think we will have it eventually. I dont feel any rush either

I love the P20 pro but i can't go with Huawei ever again they're just like motorola with updates its always "if or when" they decide, i can't see why they don't let us get it via a beta programme or something.
They have beta programs in China. Club.Huawei is quite an active user base and new features get tested by the members' beta program. Unfortunately, non-chinese Huawei-IDs can not enter the beta.
Here is the thread (attn: chinese obviously): https://club.huawei.com/thread-16854269-1-1.html
We'll get it by Q4 of 2018.
I have my p20 pro for three months and I have got 3 updates. One every month. 128 the day I opened it, 131 the next month and now 152. What delays?? What more to ask.??

Well,
If you didnt count a major update (like oreo to pie), i alreary update my P20 pro 7 times,
From initial .103 to .152 now. With august security update. So i guess, there's no delay in that regards.
Huawei is absolute crap when it comes to Android upgrades, even for their latest and greatest phone.
Genuinely don't expect to see anything until early to mid 2019. Just pray for ROM development is all.

But a lot of users in UK who have received the C782 model aren't getting these updates and thus reason why they are not happy about the update process. It's luck if you got the C432 model and Huawei won't advise which resellers are selling them.
Lucky we've just received update with July security fixes, prior to that we got one last month with June's update and the update before that was the update that included April's security fixes.
They should have just released one version of the phone for all markets so everyone got same updates.

I doubt their priority for updates are top of their list.. they rather pump out new phones... thats why I would never use another samsung phone... Huawei looks a little better.. updates every 2 month.. haha samsung was like 3-4 months.. almost 8months for 8.0 to come out for the S7

The Mate 10 Pro is still on 8.0 and it was released November last year and is classed as flagship device, yet only had 2 updates this year which included March and June Security updates.
So probably won't get 8.1 until earliest November and 9 sometime next year.
As for P20 Pro with the new Mate 20 imminent then we won't see an update on the device until after that is released and probably not till next year.

I have recently purchased this phone SIM free in the UK and was under the impression that the new android 10 update was released here for this phone. I have tried to update and it's not yet available for me and I've been unable to find very little on the web about it.
Anyone have it and know how I can upload it?
Try from hi-care app. But I read that in the uk still isn't available. Also you can try with live chat in hi-care app and support will tell you what is the latest software for your device

I've tried through hi care app and also tried changing the region but still no update. The odd YouTube video I've seen did say that it was available in the uk
So I guess nobody has it then?

Yes I'm in uk
Tried speaking with honor support on chat who were absolutely useless and basically told me that the update was being rolled out by carriers now.
I asked where did that leave me with my non carrier supported phone as I would have thought these would be the first devices to get it but they had no answer.
Greetings. Don't have this phone for global android 10 yet? Does anyone know when to release it to all phones? My problem is: I bought this phone in Hungary with a normal bill.
DE this phone has a Dutch region IMEI number. I only learned this later. Here in Hungary the local Huawei dealership does not allow fresh meals. The Dutch delegation did not reply to my letter.
I have tried everything on my UK sim free honor 20 to get android 10 but no joy. If anyone has a guide that would be much appreciated.
Dear everyone! I see this phone very soon left the manufacturer. I have my own experience. It will almost certainly not get an update like the HONOR 6 phone! HONOR 9 is one year and it's over! This has been abandoned by the manufacturers after half a year. What's the matter with whoever bought the rain series got the update? Whoever later bought is not! This is very uncommon. For those who later bought nothing? So the phone is cheaper to let down and not get an update. I can't find any other reason for this jaw-dropping update.
Hello,
It depends on your local carrier, not on HONOR. I received AndroidQ + MagicUI 3.0 about W49/W50 of year 2019.
Regards.

This is not true! If HONOR releases it for a phone, everyone should get it!
But not so! You won't get 2 identical devices at the same time. Even if you put them side by side on the table! One gets the other one may never! Do you know the difference between 2 HONOR 20s?
Serial number and IMEI number. Unfortunately HUAWEI does not deal with it here! I was screwed on the hot wire! However, all phones of the same type must receive the same system! No matter when you bought it and from whom! But not so!Isn't that a cool phone, is it? Not an old release? Then where's the problem?
That's exactly how it was with HONOR 9! Some people still do not have android 9!
I received it on 15th November

My phone doesn't have any updates! However, I installed HiCare version 10. You will not find any updates either. I bought it on December 6th in Unopened package in Hungary! Officially with invoice warranty!

"EMUI 10 Stable Version Roll-out for UK users
Further to the announcement of EMUI 10 release in August, our R&D teams have been working hard to refine the software and get it ready for global roll-out.

Today came an update: 9.1.0.172
So, it is not the supplier but the parent company that issues the updates. Lots of HONOR 20 have got the android 10 here.
Today's update is still not android 10 only patch.
Greetings! I read an article. According to Honor, there is no mention of the February update. Only devices purchased until November received the MAGIC 3.0. This is a big prank with the devices you bought afterwards! However, the Huawei list does not even include a HONOR phone. Maybe someone has news about this?
No, thay said, that it is postponed for february, will see. But, also they said that will be available monthly security updates, and there's nothing. For my Honor 20, ladt security update is October with Android 10.
