Hi,
I have an issue on my phone, Netflix is only playing back in really low resolution. I noticed it looked noticeably worse on my phone than on my pc, even though the resolution of my phone is higher than my pc's display, which is 1440p. It's weird cause I have been able to watch it at hd back when I first got the phone a year ago.
I have the most expensive netflix package, so that can't be the issue. I have enabled high quality playback in both my browser and in the android app, I've check my phone to be on the list of devices that support HD playback so I really dont know what it could be.
I've checked with those "test patterns", they say it plays back at 960x540, thats not what im paying for. No matter what movie or series I try watching on my phone, even shows like the crown which i know to be available in 4k dont look good.
Does anyone know what it could be or something I could try?
I've also tried contacting support but they just tell me that it's my internet though I simply know its not. My internet is plenty fast, I play back at way higher res on my pc which is on the same network. Either way its fast enough, 50 up and 50 down.
So on your PC or home screen you get 4K just fine, but your phone (data) is not streaming in any HD?
If so I'd guess the phone company might be fux'in with you. See if someone else gets Netflix on their phone and how their HD streaming goes. All
ok there, then try your Netflix account on someone else's phone. You will solve this. You just need a bit more info until the ah moment.

I have Core Player and love it's steaming capabilities. Doesn't skip and has plenty of feature to customize. The problem I'm running into is playing videos from my SD card. I have two TV show episodes loaded onto my microSD, 640x480. For some reason, Core Player skips a frame or two, sometimes, and freezes/lags for a solid 5-7 seconds other times.
I'm wondering if there are any fixes for this? What settings work best for the Core Player for the smoothest possible feedback?
Unfortunately...
This is not the answer that you want to hear (and I hope someone can prove me wrong) but you will probably will have to reencode those videos to a more CorePlayer friendly format if you want to use CorePlayer on your Raphael to play those files.
CorePlayer doesn't play nicely with H264 files yet on our Qualcomm chips. You can reencode to something like divx/xvid or wait until CorePlayer 2.0 to release sometime in 2009. They claim better hardware support will come with that version. Or you can reencode for WMP. Yeah, I know, kind of a bummer. =/
More info can be found on xda and fuzemobility. I think there is an xda thread started by k9tim regarding this issue if you want to read up on it.
One thing that helped for non H264 files was to increase the buffer size tenfold and decrease video quality to Medium or Low for better framerates. Didn't help me for H264 files but it did help me with some mpegs. I hope someone can prove me wrong.

I watch movies and tv shows in xvid and divx with 1.25, default settings, high quality, with absolutey no slow downs at all. What exactly are you trying to play?

Well, you're right - It's certainly not good news. But the bold'd part made it that much better, so it evens out
As far as the info goes, I really appreciate it. It's really no problem for me to leave my computer on overnight with a whole queue of files to re-encode. It'd suck if I was trying to get other things done too, but a fan on high and a few solid hours overnight should (hopefully) take care of these issues. Thanks again.

You, or anyone else who reads this and has zero issues with playback, wouldn't happen to have drivers from this post installed, would you?
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=2892184&postcount=357
I'm wondering if that's the issue - different drivers on different phones. I have a stock ROM Alltel HTC Touch Pro, with no real desire to upgrade/flash/change the PRL. I ***LOVE*** it the way it is and probably won't be getting a different phone for 3-4 years. 99.8% perfect in my book (with potential factored in, too)
I have a stock Fuze and can get good playback.
Again it all depends on the source files your trying to play. Some of my trilinear and high quality audio encoded files chop / lag every 60th frame or so but at high quality its worth it. Medium quality it does not slow down too much. Most play smoothly till high action in which case they will slow a little.
Increasing the buffer and playing with the method of drawing can increase your quality. If I was not half asleep and my phone in the other room (wife asleep) I would check my settings. If I remember I will post them in the morning. Most of them have not been changed though.

I have those drivers installed AND playback issues. But you should install them anyway.
I'm working out some methods of encoding at the moment and will get back to you. I tried to fight the transcoding, but am starting to give in. The device just doesn't have a lot of headroom as far as playing videos, with currently available players.
Any other thoughts on this or are we all just waiting on the next Core Player update?
Did installing the drivers help you at all?
Seem to be having HDMI out problems, I bought this phone so I can watch my movies out to a big screen, I tried it on two different TVs. At first it works, and then when I try stuff or like try to play angry birds it start flickering going back and forth from snow back to the phone, sometimes just stops working all together. Also it looks like crap, like trying to use the web or what not, especially text.
when I try to watch 720p movies i downloaded in like mkv, they play so smooth and look great on the phone, but out to the TV, most times the phone will slow completely down, and get really choppy and laggy, if you try to get the menu back or play buttons. if it does play it doesn't look like a 720p should, comparing on playing the file on my computer, it looks pixelated and doesn't play that smooth, kinda gives you motion sickness sometimes.
Does anyone else have these problems, is this a defective phone that I should return? can anyone confirm.
also just curious, I seen other people say they played the trailers that came on their phones and it looked great. Mine didn't come with any trailers on it.
Well mine came with trailers, though I didn't try looking at them on the big screen...I did, however, look at several high resolution pictures and a 1080p video that looked great on the PHONE'S display and it's like the output is the same resolution as the phone's display (800x480) and it's just stretched to fit the screen...makes it look I'm watching an old DVD...
Because angry bird are only made for phones not a 720p resolution, lol angry bird on TV haha buy Xbox or ps2 much better ;p
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I997 using XDA Premium App
The phone can not handle playback on a big screen unfortunately. The chopiness is purely due to processor lag. The hdmi out is more for presentations, not super useful
Angry Birds plays fine on my TV. As a matter of fact my nephew was playing it last night. It looks amazing on my TV. Try using an expensive HDMI cable, the cheap ones will not work. I had 2 HDMI cables and I first used the one that was like $20 and had this issue so i switched that out for the $50 cable and bam no problems. It really depends on the cable. Because of the info that's being sent thru the cable. Along with movies, I have a music video on my phone in .mp4 format in 1080p that plays perfectly, me and my friend were watching it like 20 times the other day.
Why can't i watch media hub on my tv it says it can't play on my tv when the app is running

Because the movies are copy protected. It a feature of the Media Hub. Samsung probably doesnt want people to pirate the movies/tv shows they sell on there.

Try a different player like rockplayer or I think vlc is out now too... Stock video player sucks. Also try removing stage-fright enable player = false.... See if that helps, its a line in the build.prop.
Hello, i used to have an atrix... then a photon and i still got them around but ofc im using the Infuse.
I was used to the WebTOP thing those motorola phones included in wich with just a bit of modifications it was an actually funtional "large screen" mobile computer; as soon as i got the Infuse i go and try the HDMI to realize its just HDMI "mirroring" so it just displays what you have on he screen... so seemengly "useless" at that time i went for rogers GB base ROMs since i wasnt gonna use HDMI.
Anyways now that i see the kernel problem with Rogers GB that didnt let HDMI go out its fixed with the J2 leak i went curious about HDMI again. Still whats the big deal to create the WebTOP display and can it be " ported" easily to Samsung? Or its device specific too hard etc etc?
Would be nice to not just have HDMI mirror but a kind of "WebTOP" for the Infuse since you can turn it into an awesome " micro laptop" with about 15 minuts of mods run full ubuntu etc.
Closest i have found its this:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179824
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1162662
I know its probably hardware things still....
If anyone could be so kind of explaining me whats the deal about only motorola being able to run a WebTOP OR if its possible to just pull the apks from my photon/atrix and run them on Infuse?

Web top is lame, hwy I can run Web apps and browse Web sites like any other browser. I really don't get it.
You can actually run Linux in place of the Web top on the atrix but it had limitations last I looked. But yeah it is kinda motorola specific. Though if you install Linux to the sd card it is possible to ruin it along side Android. Then with a set of apps you may be able to access it with vnc software through Android to display the GUI on an hdmi device.
I'd imagine this would be slow and take a while to setup but it could be fun try.

Yeah i mean i know you can basicly run browser like desktop etc, still maybe its my bigscree or my infuse but it scales so ugly it doesnt quite looks " HD" and the fact that its always portrait unless you open a video... maybe im playing wrong with MHL and my big screen but the videos dont look as good as i would expect, and again i repeat maybe im doing somethign wron but i sometimes use netflix on my infuse and put it on the bigscreen by the MHL adaptor and it looks UGLY choppy slow etc... if im doing something wrong would be nice if someone helped me out... its a 52" 1080p screen im connecting directly the MHL to hd cable to tv... and running froyo stock atm... looks bad videos look choppy dar sounds sometimes syncs off etc...
thats why i asked about the webtop cause it created an external emvironmet "ugly one" still looked so good while running videos etc that i could say " hey now thats hd"

Yeah the scaling sux, but video playback isn't mirrored the phone screen should be off and it should output high Res video. A lot of the hdmi stuff is closed source and I don't know if the devs can figure out a way to interface with it. I wouldn't be optimistic about a better way.
Are you playing videos pdf the sd card oder flash off websites? If the Samsung player is running and you go full screen it should look ok. If it is windowed or uses the flash powered video player then there isn't any way I know of to get better than 480x800 res with bad upscaling. Try forcing the TV into 480p and see if the sharpness improves, other than that, I guess you have to deal with it.

Hmm idk how netflix works to be honest... but the screen nevers goes off while im playing a movie... that puts the phone temp REALLY hot after 2.30 hrs of playing with the screen on... i havent tried any videos directly from Video player i was saying Netflix quiality trough HDMI SUCKED haha...ill give it a shot at forcing the tv to go 480p thats actually a nice idea i didnt had... tnks man.
You are lucky you can even mirror Netflix. Samsung can't even allow there own media hub to mirror, the studios won't allow it. It would be too ready to record and distribute, media hub videos are only licenced to playback on the device. running mhl only gives you a message about how it isn't supported.

Lol thats true, then ill stick with what i can get hahaha.
So i got my eeepad and its great but i find video streaming a little slow.
I am using emit and love it, streams great on my Galaxy Nexus phone and my dad's Samsung Galaxy tablet but on my eeepad i get some issues with stream quality. The high quality setting for dual core devices is a little laggy, but otherwise good quality. I tried lowering the settings but the lagginess continued throughout all the profiles, just with a lower video quality.
Speedtest.net on the devices show similar results so i'm not sure it's that and its all running on a n network so i don't think i should have trouble streaming video.
I was wondering if this was an issue or if anyone knew a fix to stop the lag.
I have broken my charger so battery has been low (<20%) could this be the issue? A new one is on it's way anyway.
What version of FW are you on, ICS for the transformers is having issues with flash/video playback and wifi. It could be either of those things.
You could stop it by rooting and installing a custom kernel with the fixes
I'm on 4.03 at the moment. But that sounds exactly like my problem. Thanks for the info.
As mentioned I am missing the charger for now so i will look into that as soon as it arrives.
You can try the PERI one-click root tool in my signature for an easy route, that's about the only thing you can do as of now though, untill ASUS fully fixes their firmware.
I'll be waiting a bit anyway. As mentioned no current charger but I will keep it in mind when the time comes
I just want a HDMI dongle for my tv, that I can cast my phone screen to. Mostly so that, I can use a controller and play my phone games on my tv, the phone acting like a mini-console.
-> What will perform better, chromecast or miracast/ezcast? chromecast dongle costs about twice as much, so I just want to make sure it's worth it
-> how good is the performance with either? will i be getting full framerate etc? I have tried several hdmi cable adapters and none of them seem to work for me (yes, even after plugging in power, best i could manage is choppy/flickery performance) so i'm trying to get this as a workaround
any other info i should know? phone is rooted so no worries there
my chromecast runs fine, it have a bit delay, but it's ok.
Miracast works well too.
I don't see any differences.
have you tried it while gaming? i mean some nice 3d games that are using a lot of the phone's power. for example soulcraft ii (it's free). does it affect the quality of the screen sharing?

There is a noticeable lag with the Chromecast. It is very smooth, but its about a half a second behind. I don't think it would be good for gaming unless you are playing some sort of turn based game.
I also have a LG TV with miracast support, but it is unusable. It shows one frame every 10 seconds or so.
I have miracast. It lags too...I don't think it was meant for gaming. Unless it was a turn based one. There is also a slight loss of video quality
