Oneplus suspended the Dev seeding program - OnePlus 6 Guides, News, & Discussion

Guys I just found this news.
I'm not a dev but I feel sad abut this.
I also found the original news from "Manu" (OP staff) but I'm not able to find the official permalink (image attached below).
Sad.

wow. please close this tread. apologize

So basically, they're pulling an HTC. Promises of Dev support only to pull one thing after another until our devices are a complete pain in the ass to customize. Great.

Blu sparks is OnePlus favorite. I doubt they'll stop sending him phones.

Here is OnePlus' official statement clarifying what'll happen to the developer seeding program:
"Apologies, we weren’t as clear as we could have been. We’ve temporarily scaled back our developer program while we work out how to make it even better in the future. We’ll be updating the selection criteria and communication channels with developers in our seeding program for better co-operation. We will restart the program and select Devs based on the new criteria and will work on providing the best possible support to community development efforts for OnePlus devices." – OnePlus Spokesperson

alright everyone lets just take a second and relax. no need to get upset. Lets try to keep this thread civil

Delete d , my girlfriend had my phone again.

As a community the best thing we can do is vote with our wallets. The pico phone seems to be slotting in where OnePlus is now leaving behind. OnePlus is off to bigger and better things now.

They did. It's the reason his thread is closed in the 6T section.
OnePlus has released an updated response to this statement though:

[VIDEO] Samsung Captivate Weekly ROM Review

All links pulled due to XDA Request after an XDA member complained I was only out for profits to a moderator on a few products I have. Due to the fact I link to my JIG and a few other things in many videos, I was asked to pull any content relating to this.
I will still be offering all this great material at my website. Just go to google and search for MobileTechVideos.
good idea, thanks for the video
Awesome review!
Quadrant it fixed now
All 720p decode/encode was busted
DG! Question and feel free to say no by all means but maybe I can get your attention with out a PM or post in your ROM thread which I'm sure is hard to ever see for you.
I am adding a download page on my website and wondered if I could also host your ROM's there? I wanted to host lots of things from ROMs, to useful CWM packages to open source apks and others. I completely understand if you do not want me to do that and I wanted to ask before doing so. PM me if you see this...I've pm'd you on the subject once but doubt you saw it as I'm sure your box is through the roof on PM's.

Heh, ya, it gets maxed out every week or so...
That's fine tho.
I have been looking to flash my phone with a ROM but I can never decide which one to go with so at least now I can get some insight into what some of these do and how fast they are.
I will be looking forward to seeing these every week.
Thanks for taking the time and doing the great side by side comparisons. I look forward to checking out your weekly videos!
Nice review. Is the sound quality issue you mention the result of the Captivate having unique hardware in the form of the "Audience" voice-processing chip that the I9000 does not? It's a shame that one would have to give up support of this circuitry for the sake of running a custom ROM.
I remember reading about this a while back but thought it had been sorted out/fixed.
Good review. Liked the comparison.
There are some interesting comments on your perception video about lack of support for the audience processing chip

Yes I agree. I'm not sure if that's the correct reason as the speaker phone function works flawlessly but it's interesting to say the least.

This community has just received a +1 by having you around.
Nice work with the vids and pretty informative for people looking to get details and previews before flashing. I'm just going to go around thanking your posts.
Hopefully people can recognize the amount of time that you're putting into this stuff and be thankful that you have a Captivate in your hand.
Lovin the videos and website. Thank you for the time you are putting into this I think you have something great going here. If you & DG ever decide to get different phones or leave the Galaxy S community I will defiantly follow.
Great videos, but noob question.
How are the roms that different from each other?
Most of them seem to be running similar kernels and you can still flash whichever ones you want for lagfix or OC/UV.
Do they mostly differ in terms of appearance/default apps? How about speed/performance?

I'm not sure there are a lot of expectations here to be let down. We know that in most cases you probably wouldn't be able to offer us beta, or even alpha firmware and software to develop with or on. RC firmware and software would be just as much out of the question so we're down to what is already out, or something that is leaked by people friendly to the development communities that take the chance of getting in to a lot of trouble. So I don't really know what you have to offer yet. I am curious to find out, though.
Dear john, you have sparked a lot of interest, we are drooling at the mouth do you have any gingerbread for us, or dare I speak of honeycomb? ;-)

"IF" this where to happen it would be a good thing for both samsung and xda for the simple fact that it would help us make better mods for the samsung community and would allow samsung to release things that are more open to modding and customizations that all of us around here love and enjoy making (or in my case learning to make)...hope all goes well with this.
I am a dubious person and do not have expectations as I am still uncertain as to your intentions and more importantly you identity.
But if all is as you say I would take back to the powers that be, many are obviously unhappy with having to run outdated software in the form of the OS on what was at the time of purchase cutting edge hardware.
Give us a option. Give us a way to open the phone up and flash a AOSP option. A more Nexus-ish approach would be fantastic.
The Mainstream will have what they require in a stock configuration and we the ones that know what the potential of the device is can help you in pushing it to its limits.
Well I'm trying to get my post count up so I can comment in development. Anywho kudos to samsung.
Thanks again John, I'm excited and look forward to hearing your announcement!

Honeycomb is made for tablets so I don't think that really helps us. And I highly doubt Samsung is going to release Gingerbread directly to XDA if at all.

maybe samsung will use us for testing and maybe some tweaking...that would give us a chance to develop on it before its officially released and we would just plain out have it early, cause if you give the devs here like 2 weeks with just about anything it will be fully modded and running to its full potential!!!
props to xda devs!!!

Hopefully their next approach works out better, they should have known better than to open a topic up to the entire forum
They should probably have moderator's from each device take questions from their users, then they could collaborate and get only the good questions answered. (and you wouldn't have to deal with trolls/flames/etc.)

I suppose the question *since we can't ask specifics* is....
What can you do to help us and or what tools can you provide to the DEVs to help us get every bit of Awesome out of the device that we can.
Put the ball in your court.
Glad THIS thread is still open...
(Does SamsungJohn know how forums work?!?)
ANYhoo... I'm a give 'em enough rope to hang themselves kinda guy and I've actually been recommending the Mesmerize & Fascinate to friends that need new phones based solely on the great XDA community and what they can get those phones to do using only a bread tie, three pennies, and a jar of Cheez Wiz. Kudos to the devs once again!
I had no delusions that Samsung was a great manufacturer... my TV and DVD/home theater unit have had their share of problems... and I was also aware of the OS update delays in other product lines before I got my phone so that wasn't a big surprise either. BUT, I got in on the free phone thing through USCC and (if I EVER get my $80 rebate) I'll still consider being a Mesmerize owner/user a WIN.
What I see here is a classic example of a company that has the OBVIOUS solution within their grasp and they are actively choosing to find an alternative to it that will provide them SHORT TERM monetary gains. They have set themselves up for failure and they have only themselves to blame. Here's a vocabulary lesson for SamsungJohn et al... crowdsourcing
Guys if you haven't read through it, that topic was closed by a moderator because it was an experiment that failed miserably. (because the general XDA population isn't very good at reading and following instruction, and it turned into a huge flamefest.)
John has been confirmed by several sources to be who he says he is (at least works for samsung) and is here working with the XDA administration to (in an organized way) swap feedback with the developing community (on all samsung products).
On a side note Supercurio has been in correspondence with Korean Samsung and has been also pushing for this very thing to happen, but from what I've read i'ts pure coincidence that John arrived when he did.
Anyway, sounds to me like we need to be patient as information IS coming as soon as they figure out the best way to go about this whole thing. This is how I've taken things from what I've read today, don't quote me....

In all fairness Crowdsourceing is what the whole AOSP is about. Android was and is developed to be Open Source. So if a company is reaching out to the community it can't be all bad.
I just think that for the most part a lot of us here are end users.
While I am sure that others like me want to, and strive to learn more, we simply will not be on a par with the current crop of DEVs as they progress as well.
I think the idea of a couple DEVs from each of the respective forums of the variations of the SGS platforms being in contact is a smart idea.
Dcows, Phidelt, and of course JT and many of the OPs in the Samsung Fascinate IRC channel would be obvious choices.
In fact a meeting of the minds in a channel of choice with only participants having voice would be nice as well.
I do understand and hope that SamsungJohn does know as well that most here are simply end users and just wanna know when we will get xxx or yyy ..
I will now go back to my corner get my Java Text out and see if I can learn, learn, learn....
If samsung really wants to get in good with the developement community, they would be wise to make it entirely official, and go to engadget or someone with a press release. If you want to gain our trust, give everyone the AOSP build.
Do I want sammy to be community-minded? Absolutely.
Am I going to trust one guy who says he works for our manufacturer? Well, let's get to the root of that. Do I trust the company who created out hardware? Not at all.

Yeah I frequent the irc with those guys and we're always willing to help people... I think a lot of people come to forums just to get help and information rather than to develop and theme and stuff like we do. It would probably be more beneficial for Samsungjohn to maybe set up a date on the irc and say like "I will be on from x time to y time" and then people can get on and ask questions and talk about things, and more of the power users who use the irc regularly will get a chance to maybe learn some stuff or help out Samsung.
It would also make it much easier to control, if things get out of hand then the OPs can simply kick or ban the culprits.

OnePlus 6 Development Rate

Hey guys,
Just curious as this is the first time I've been around for a new device release and I'm used to getting a device long after developers have had them for quite a while.
Not that I'm complaining - but is this the usual rate of development for a new device?
Really appreciate all the great work you guys do! If I can help with anything let me know

Was just mentioning this is Telegram. I am aware of 4 kernels and 1 ROM being developed (not all yet available). I think with A/B partitions it's taking a little longer for development to start as we don't have an official TWRP yet (and I mean this in comparison to OP5) but if you're looking for a device with good developers support, you won't go wrong with the OP6.

it's barely been a full week since the first orders were delivered so come back in a month.
I would report your thread and have it locked before the lazy keyboard warrior nerds come around to argue with you. I tried to ask what stage of development we're in and of course it was immediately interpreted as demanding an exact timeline of when we'll have ROMs and crap. Had to report-to-lock my own thread because people were acting unbelievably childish. The funny thing is even the mod who responded to the report seemed to be sick of the users' crap on here.
I would say this isn't anything unusual given the challenges of developing for this specific device. Many phones go weeks or months before even getting root. OP is dev-friendly, of course, but the A/B partition issues and other things are slowing roll-out a bit.

Your post answers exactly all I wanted to know - just wanted the opinion of someone who has been around a few new device forums to see what is and isn't normal.
It looks to me (from your post) like development is moving along pretty nicely then considering how new the device is/new challenges involved.
Again really appreciate the non confrontational reply.

Just trying to gauge something I have no experience of from other people who have more experience.
Last phone I had was a OnePlus One... I got it many months after release due to the whole invite only thing and development was already pretty insane by the time I got one in my hands

People can be testy about these kinds of questions because they are sometimes asked in a much more disrespectful/entitled tone.
To be honest, I think development is moving along pretty well, and certainly faster than what I'm used to from HTC phones (which are a different dev situation).

been using many rom, on many devices and for many years now.
This one was for me on whyred the most stable (or the most quickly fixed), keeping battery pretty good and with a good concept. I even used it on other devices since i liked it a lot.
That's the reason why it bother us.
the dev made a great job maintaining this ROM and was updating it regularly. for the first time i consider staying on a ROM that is potentially no more developped
The best custom rom, it's custom but it's cleanest
If you ever wonder why devs struggle to find motivation to work for the community, just find the first Pie FW update from henrique in PE thread and read the posts until the last page. Despite the fact that it was clearly noted to update firmware to Pie version and it was written how to do it, there were 4-5 pages per day (not posts, PAGES) filled with questions:
- bootloop, help pls
- can't flash, error in twrp
- how to update
Literally.
And that's everything you need to know about Whyred community.
1- If the rom is stable, you can live without updates.
2- José is "back", he bought a new whyred.

Never bothered to update my PE (december 5 rom) since it came out. Is running as smoothly as can be, so why mess with a good thing? Will probably keep it until next device, maybe next year.
Is there an archive with the older pixel experience roms and their respective changelogs somewhere?

The developers must link their jobs, social life etc. with making great roms. They need to sacrifice their free time to maintain the rom, fix the problems they encounter with debugging and people complain because they almost never read OP. Without thanking the dev, supporting him, what kind of monsters have this community become? Asking simple questions, which they just can search in like 5 seconds to find an answer... Shame on those people, may they regret now what've they done.

Xda app sucks compared to tapatalk

I hate this app. It sucks, big time. You would think Android developers, when removing support for something that worked well would have given us something of better quality. Not stopped support and given us this mess. Why can't I just jump to the newest post? Why do I need to navigate the entire thread? Ugh

For those feedback there's a thread in the About xda-developers section. And they didn't removed support, it's because the forum moved to Xenforo, so it doesn't work the way it used to internally. Tapatalk would need an update to work, and rn this isn't a priority.
Now I know, the new app is mostly a webview app and stuff, but since it's the only one that works rn I'll take it, especially when this app has a good notification system (XDA Labs never notified me).
If you're still not to a fan of this app, the mobile website work well too
Have a good day
Thanks for the insight. Mod, please delete thread.
