So my brother accepted the 4.2 update on Thursday. He is stock and non-rooted. When he accepted the update, his tablet was in the keyboard dock. He let it be while it updated for about 2 hours. It was still on the boot screen. Then, he detached it from the dock and put it on the charger. It's been just shy of six hours, and it's still on the boot screen. What should we do?

Did you try to power it off then on again?
No should I? Is there a chance of bricking it?

We don't know what happened. Do you know if the software installed but failed to boot up or it never installed? Obviously it's not doing anything right now, so you have no choice but reboot the device. If it bricked it already done.
I just rebooted, same problem.

Turn off your device, then hold down volume down and power buttons, when you see a white text on the screen release both buttons, now use the Volume down to switch the highlighted RCK to Android icon, then hit the Volume up button twice to execute. This will cold boot your device.
Same problem, still stuck on the boot screen after 3 minutes.

Seems like you're updated to 4.2 but something corrupted prevented it from booting up. Try the same procedures but this time select "wipe data" icon then hit volume up twice to execute it. This is like factory reset.
Thank you, we factory reset it and it was at 4.2.1 working properly.

Nice! glad it worked for you.
Hey, Im sorry for hijacking this thread.
But I have exactly the same issue. Expect that my Tf700 wont boot, after that wipe...
Its still stuck on the "Asus" Screen.
Before I installed via OTA, I tried to save root with OTA Rootkeeper and changed nothing else. Im stock and my bootloader is locked.
I have also just 3 icons when pressing power and volume down. So I think I have a similar problem you described buhohitr.
If I boot with Volume Down and Power Button pressed there is this text:
Android cardhu-user bootloader <1.00 e> released by "WW_epad-10.6.1.14.4-20130329" A03
Key driver not found.. Booting OS

Did you try to boot into recovery then select the "WIPE DATA" icon (by hiting the volume down until it highlighted, then press the volume up button twice. It will wipe data then reboot your device automatically.

Since yours is still locked. I think the only to recover your device is wait for Asus to release the full firmware. Sorry!
Hi Guys
This morning my GT-N8000 wouldn't boot. It's stuck on the boot screen displaying "Samsung Galaxy Note 10.1".
I pressed the power button for a while making the device reboot and pressed power & vol-down to enter download mode. Download mode is working so I loaded Odin and the device was recognized so I flashed stock ROM with success. Flash went well and it reached 100% and no error messages from Odin and the Note 10.1 rebooted as expected. BUT... it's still stuck on boot screen.
Is it possible to make a hard reset somehow? Maybe while it's connected to the computer somehow?
I suppose I will have to send it in for repairs
Brgds...
Go first to recovery Mode (Power + Volume Up) and make a Factory Reset, After this CLEAR CACHE. Reboot and maybe thats it. If not, Flash now again with odin.
Your Data and Setting are all delete after this, but i dont know a other Way :-\

Power+Vol up will not bring up recovery mode on mine... are you sure it does on yours?
Okay.... Switch off the Note.
Hold down Power and Volume Up, if you see the Boot Logo, hold only the "volume up" down and release the power button until you see the Android symbol

I have the same problem, my GNote is stuck on the "Samsung Galaxy Note" screen.
I've tried to switch off the note, but the screen goes off for one second and it lights up again at the same screen.
If I plug the USB cable and try to switch it off, the note goes to the battery charging screen.
Odin seems to "connect" with the table.
I can enter the download mode and just that. I can't enter the recovery.
Attached pictures of qhat I get.
Any sugestions?

Then i guess the only way would be to flash a stock firmware using odin, eg the one it came with from the factory.
You should be able to download a stock firmware from SamFirmware, after you have created a free account....

didn't solve mine... ... ...
Agelcer:
I did as you said, but unfortunately, for me Odin always gave me the Failed Message.
I used the firmware file from the link and the Odin 3.07 from the other link as well.
Did anyone get the same result?
And did anyone find a solution for this problem after failing with this method?
Thanks
Usual reasons for fail .
Wrong Firmware / Wrong Model .
Bad firmware download .
I went to a service with my N8000. They put another EMMC and tried something with JTAG (they didn't say the exact details), still doesn't work. What other things can I do, apart from changing the whole board - the most expensive solution (is there a little component that could be damaged and it gets stuck at boot logo)?
I was trying to root with the superboot-windows.bat (r2) and am now stuck on the fastboot screen. I tried all buttons and combinations to reboot:crying:

Press the power up button and then tap the power button, that should get you to the recovery. Perform a data factory reset and clear the caches and reboot. This is what i would do and it will probably get your device running again.

isn't there a guide to revive hardbricked z3? why no info leak from sony? since they already have z3+ as the new top terminal, they should be willing to give the diagram of the test point and the correct package to flash

The only way to Revive a z3 is via setoolbox. So, you have to buy one and give it a try

Hi Moses,
thanks for your reply.
i've googled and found something called setool box 3.
do you know of any cases where this has worked for a z3? i cant find any info regarding the repair of a hard bricked z3, only older phone models.
thanks again.
There's a forum where it's been said that it supports up to z3+. Still no z5 support, but it will be a matter of time. It's a cheap item, just usd 35 las time I saw it

Try adb.
adb reboot
Also, there are mods that allow using the volume button as the power button.

Send your device to a repair shop then, if you do not have experience, you will probably not be able to fix this, you will probably damage your device worse than what it is already damaged.

Is the bootloader unlocked on the device?
If not, you won't be able to change button mapping/function in recovery.
If it is, you can try building a new copy of recovery but change the keymapping/button function in the coding of the recovery before you compile the new copy.
To be honest, you won't be able to solve this with a software fix, you will have to repair the power button if you want to be able to make selections in recovery, whether you "want" to or whether you can afford it or not.
Another option is to use a USB keyboard or a USB mouse to make selections, android supports keyboard and mouse via USB.
