Can I root Pixel 2 with Kingoroot? - Google Pixel 2 Questions & Answers

I am thinking about rooting my Google Pixel 2 but don't want to lose any data. I have seen an app with one click root that can root and lose no files. Is it possible to use Kingo Root to root a Pixel 2?

Can someone please answer. I want to root but not wipe my data.

Rooting does not wipe your data, unless your unlocking the bootloader

If your bootloader is unlocked why don't you just boot twrp and then flash magisk?

I don't have an unlocked bootloader and am thinking now of getting one. I have found an app that is supposed to be able to backup and restore app data with root. The name of it is "Super Backup & Restore". However, I don't know if the app is able to only backup and restore with root or can backup files w/o root and restores them with root. What does it mean that it can backup app data, and is there a better app for backing up and restoring app data?

Do you use Google to backup? It'll backup your apps and data. But, it won't backup anything you might have on the internal sdcard or SMS.

Yes I do, but I am wondering if it will backup all of my files and I don't even think I can unlock and root as my Pixel 2 is on Verizon.

I am pretty sure that king root or any other root exploit programs/don't work. Just unlock the Bootloader and be done with it

Sadly, Google & Verizon have some sort of arrangement such that Verizon Pixel devices are locked down. There was an exploit in an earlier version of Android, but that has since been patched. I'm afraid you're out of luck with your device - I'm sorry.

the ones who advertise kingroot to work are usually spammers on youtube.

I would personally avoid Kingroot/Kingoroot or any other closed source root solution. Use Magisk, as it's open source and consistently maintained.

Take a look in you gmail contact list. It will be synced when you start up a "clean" Android phone. If you want to keep your SMS's, you could try a program like SMS Backup +.
root it without unlocking bootloader, it won't wipe your device...
If you have Google account, your contacts will be sync by Gmail.
App data can be backup by Titanium Backup.
Root will not wipe ur data.
But unlocking bootloader does.
Also backup before root is recommended

How is that possible in 4.0.4?
As stated previously, once you unlock bootloader your data will be erased. And yes, once you install custom recovery (CWM), you can do a nandroid backup through it.

[Q] Is it safe to root 4.1.1?

Could I root my 4.1.1 NS4G safely? Also, the bootloader is already unlocked, so I won't lose my data, right?

It is safe and no wipe is needed so you shouldn't loose any data. Grab one of my root zips from here to do it easily.. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1784497 they flash su, superuser, and busybox with the bonus of disabling the stock recovery re-flash on boot.

My understanding is that the current way to root your phone requires unlocking the bootloader through the HTC Dev process. There is no other way to root.
HOWEVER, you should be able to make a nandroid backup of all your phone data before you root, and then restore the data after your bootloader is unlocked. Search the forums on how to make a nandroid backup and restore. I am pretty sure you can make a nandroid backup before recovery, and then restore it after. This can be done using the adb.exe file. Let me know if you cant find anything on the forums about a nandroid backup.

Yes all data will be deleted as unlocking bootloader finishes with a factory reset...it is not mandatory to install custom ROMs...u can unlock bootloader and root ur phone while using complete stock firmware....

thanks.. i will try rooting soon

Just wanted my bootloader unlocked but I got root too. Anyway to remove root?

Just used the CF-Auto-Root and everything went smoothly. However, I only wanted my bootloader unlocked so I wouldn't have to wipe my device down the line but do not plan on using the root capabilities right now. Is there anyway to unroot the device while still maintaining the unlocked bootloader? Thanks.
Why didn't you just unlock the boot loader? Why did you use auto root knowing it would root it?

Honestly I just went through this reddit post about unlocking the bootloader. It did not mention anything about it rooting the device. I guess I should have realized it would have root when using "Auto-Root"...
So far I've unchecked the root option in SuperSU and have disabled the app. Wondering if there was a way to fully remove root access and SuperSU.
just flash the stock images back on using fastboot

There is an unroot feature in SuperSu app. Simple.

Root without custom recovery?

Can I root the Nexus without unlock the bootloader and install a custom recovery?
I was thinking to only boot the TWRP and flash SuperSU but the botloader must be unlocked... so there is a way to root without unlock bootloader and install a custom recovery?

The temper flag, if I unlock and lock again the tamper flag will be true and I'll have to reset it in case of problems like eMMC, and in many cases the user can't reset it, so I can't claim LG warranty..

Only way without unlocking the boot loader. You can also use bootunlocker from the play store to reset the tamper flag if you're rooted.
