The Magic 2 looks fantastic, but before I go ahead and order one (probably with a China ROM), are there any reports on google pay compatibility?
Apparently it will not work on phones that are not "Play Protect certified", rooted, running a custom ROM, or "Are untested and haven’t been approved by Google".
:fingers-crossed:
Yes, google play will work.
Just go "huawei store" download and install "Google Play Store"
ps: I am use China local version of Magic2, 8G/128G/Red
For in store purchases, only MasterCards work unfortunately. When I tried adding American Express or Visa, it keeps asking me to contact my bank.
It works for me in the UK. Master debit and credit as well as Amex.

Hello
I have a questions for you
I don't understand Honor ...I was ready to buy the phone but than I asked to myself why MIx 3 has a much better use of the slider why there was no customization of the functionality of the slider or small menu , like Xiaomi?
It is so useful for e-payment, or to recall a frequent app, I asked to a seller in the shop he said me "they will implement" but how this seller can know it?
I just saw there is a new update of the MAGIC UI 2.0. did you know something?
I hope in the future they will implement it.....it is unbelivable.

And what has that to do with this thread?
You have pasted this into three different threads, I get it, you want a slider with programmable slide action. Get the Mix then.
Huawei stated that more functionality would come to the slide function in future updates.

So the Xiaomi has the better design subtleties and adds Qi wireless charging. The Honor wins in the camera department and its in-screen fingerprint scanner is the preferable option. Between the two handsets the actual motion of the sliding mechanism is too close to call – although the Xiaomi, when we saw it, was more customisable than the Honor (which, we're assured, will change via software updates).

Luke which bank are you using? I had problems with the Chinese mi mix 2s and Google pay and since then I was like, never getting a Chinese version again. Cheers
I am with Metro Bank. Before the HM2, I used a Mi Mix 1 which also worked with Clydesdale. I switched to Metro 1.5 years ago, so I can't test them with the Honor.
I am not sure how the ROM version would prevent you from registering with certain banks - I always believed the device is trusted and either works or doesn't work at all.

Not sure either but it gave me a headache... Google play was certified tho. I had to get the global version and sell the Chinese. Well.... haven't sell it yet... Bugger
So I now have my magic 2!
I love the design. It's all pretty nice and snappy. The in display fingerprint works well. The camera has left me pretty disappointed, as everyone else has been raving on about the performance. I'll make another post addressing that.
As far as google pay goes, I get the "Added features couldn't be set up" "To resolve this, you'll need to contact your bank." error when adding my Nationwide Visa card. Google support assured me that the bank just needs to "re-tokenize" my card. The bank of course had no idea what this meant, so I should have a new card in the post to try adding. I also haven't been able to turn on the contactless built in to the barclaycard app with an error CM2002 "Sorry, something went wrong". I'll update if I get a solution.

Hiya!
I just picked up the honor magic 2 from china and my phone does not have the 'huawei store'. it does however have an 'app gallery'. Are they the same thing?
Also when I search for 'google' or 'google play store', i get some google apps but not the 'google play store' or 'google play services.
When I try installing any of the apps it takes me to the browser and shows a tab that attempts to open play services but does nothing.
Please help.

Yep that is the same thing.
If the Google play store isn't there, try installing it as an apk from apkmirror for example.

Yes when it comes to the esthetics but I think it hard to argue regarding the mechanical design. The design between the sliding parts has tighter tolerance on the Honor phone. For example the is a rather large gap between the phone and screen on the Mi mix. On the Honor there are no gaps because the parts that slide are more integrated together.
The phones are a bit different when it comes to the implementation of the sliding part. The Mi mix slides the screen down and the "phone and camera" stay still, while on the Honor the "phone and screen" slides down and the back with the camera stay still.

Hey everyone!
I got my Nexus 5 last week and I feel that one of the features that is often overlooked in most of the reviews and forums is the "Tap & Pay" feature using NFC. I didn't try it out myself till a few days ago and it has turned out to be one of my top reasons to love the Nexus 5.
After you link the google wallet app to Tap & Pay and setup a pin, you are able to use your phone to make payment at PoS devices that support this feature. Now, a lot of people say this is very limited but I live and work in Jersey/NYC and a lot of major retailers have this option. ShopRite/ Walmart/ NYC cabs/ Pharmacies etc.
The best part is the look on people's faces when i whip out my Nexus 5, complete my transaction with a light tap and answer their questions with "It's the new Nexus 5 !! " Even my friends who have HTC One/S4/iPhone can't compete with that because they can't have google wallet due to stupid carrier/bank restrictions. Their version of google wallet, Isis, is nowhere as good and iBeacon (ios) isn't releasing anytime soon.
If you live in a major city, then there are bound to be a lot of places where this will come in handy. Anyone else have any experiences with Tap & Pay?
Definitely a cool feature. I tried this out last week for the first time ever. I have to see how many stores have this feature in Miami / ft Lauderdale. Coming from ios this say never possible.
Will be in NY next week

Definitely a cool feature, but not limited to N5. I love the reaction I get when I use my phone for payment. Just today, at Sports Authority, I used Tap and a Pay, the cashier was definitely surprised, she asked about it and was so disappointed to hear that iPhones can't do the same thing.

anyone figured out how to get this working in Australia?
The REAL and the only reason why I returned my Note3 back to T-Mobile, is for this tap-&-pay service through Google Wallet.
I've gotten fed up with all the carrier restrictions crap, and the fiasco with ISIS.
I really really do enjoy Google wallet with my Nexus 5.

You returned a phone because you couldn't use NFC payment? haha, funny.

You'd have to get the cards into google wallet, which it won't let you here.
OTOH since most of the functionality is now in the OS, it's entirely possible someone could write a tap & pay app using that framework that worked in the UK.
Since I live in Salt Lake City, I was in the test market for Isis. I must say it was pretty neat to be able to use my Note 2 to tap and pay to get on the transit system. The bad thing was, half way through my ride back home my phone died. The police on the transit system have NFC scanners that they use to verify if you actually paid with that device or not so having a dead phone wouldn't prove that you made a payment. In that case they either give you a ticket for a first offense or fine you and kick you off at the next stop. Thankfully they didn't check in time for me to get off at my stop.
I only used Google Wallet twice and it worked just as well as Isis, if not a bit faster.
I will say though, its either really cool when it works but its also really embarrassing when it doesn't. A few times I tried tapping the phone and nothing happened. Pretty awkward situation

Wow. I'm amazed that any police department would invest in the equipment and training to do this. Very cool.
I haven't gotten it to work yet. It's setup, and to be fair i've only tried at Walgreens....
I've been waiting for this feature in Canada since GNex time, but Google Wallet doesnt work here, and theres no alternative either..
How do you know if a register is NFC enabled? Is there a sign or something where you would normally swipe a card or something that says tap here?
I've been using NFC payment on my N4, and before that on a rooted S3 with the Xposed patch for Google Wallet. It always surprises people when I pay with my phone, and one woman (who runs a Pho restaurant near my offices) has to show everyone when I come in and pay with my phone.
I find a few things humorous about ISIS:
- ISIS is not available on the Nexus series of phones, even though they have the hardware and software to support it.
- ISIS SIMs are not available locally through the carrier, even after launch.
I hope ISIS succeeds, but if it doesn't I hope that Google will buy the consortium out and integrate them into Wallet.

Look for either the NFC, Mastercard PayPass, Google Wallet, or Isis logos. Lot of the registers here in SLC has the Isis and Paypass logos.

These Utah cops don't play around. I'm not quite sure how the scanner actually determines whether or not you paid though. Maybe the device stores an ID in the system or something. They've been using the technology for years since University Students get an NFC card that grants them free rides.
I haven't tried an nfc payment on my nexus 5, even with my nexus 4, I have wanted too but I didn't want to be "that guy" at the register incase something goes wrong.
I would love to start using this.. unfortunately, google doesnt like anywhere else except US.. lol
No google wallet up here in Canada
Used it three times at McD and the guys there were blowing away. They all ask what app was that.
works flawlessly for me. seems faster too, though that may be a trick of the mind (coming from GNex)
My wallet account has credit card linked but I can't select it in the Tap and Pay settings screen. Wallet isn't even listed. ?
Hey everyone
I just heard about Huawei been a bit more relaxed about rooting their Mate 30 Pro.
At First I was like that is AWESOME, the idea of been able to use the Mate 30 Pro with pixel experience (my favourite custom Rom) sounds amazing.... best Pixel stock experience on a beast like Mate 30 would be epic.
Then I found a strange taste in my mouth. There would still be some draw backs. Thought I would list some concerns and people could answer some of those concerns.
(Note....each concern/question has a solution or comment I think about the issue.....this is just my view and not to be taken as the only view)
1. Lack of full potential from cameras on the back?
I know some custom ROM camera apps are pretty good l, but to really experience the best from the camera's you would have to have some access to l the Mate 30 Pro stock camera app package to allow.
A thought I had is that Huawei could make a APK that's a bit like Goodlock and this app would allow you to download the stock camera app and other stock apps that people may use on their Huawei devices.
2. LTE and 5G??
I can remember using my Samsung S7E with Pixel Experience but one of the draw backs was that I could get 4G but I didn't get the extra features like LTE, wifi calling, HD call quality ect. If this remained the case then this would be a major draw back to a 2019 flagship device.
Maybe Huawei could needed coding and solutions directly to custom Rom developers....or allow then to be a open source so every ROM devloper had access these features.
3. General Custom ROM glitches and bugs
We are all used to our ROMs having strange behaviours every now and ad gain but do we want these bugs on our £800+ smartphone that we use eveqersryday.
This solution seems obvious Huawei need to work closely with custom Rom developers and helping them Iron these issues out.
4. Some apps dont work on custom Roms no matter what.
Back to my S7e I was able to almost all of the apps on my phone thanks to magisk manager but some apps still had issues. My samsung gear app would pair with my gearfit 2 no matter what. It downloaded but it would not find any devices. I found a fix but that caused my Google to stop working, so had to put it back. This happened with other apps as well.
The only solution I can think of is app developers would have to made aware that mate 30 users could be using rooted devices with Huawei's blessing and ensure there apps work on rooted versions of the phone.
5. Is Warranty still safe.
If Huawei are actually cool with us rooting our P30 Pro then they need to put their money where their mouth is and allow this activity with their manufactures warranty, private insurance companies need to follow suit as well.
Huawei could give us manufactures warranty but with the condition that if possible we have to flash the stock firmware of the device before sending it out.
That's it....that's just s few of my thoughts and possible solutions and would love to hear what you guys think and if you have any worries or questions of your own? Maybe if we make enough noise Huawei will notice us and take our ideas and answer our questions themselves.
(Make it easier....put which number comment your answering to so we all have a better idea what's going on)
Keep it friendly guys remember these are mine and others thoughts.... none of us are implying that these thoughts are right.
By the way... I am a Note 9 user but I am really excited of the potential of Huawei been the ultimate custom ROM brand.
Official Pixel Experience is pretty much nill on Huawei Devices. I see the Honor 10 has
again been dropped.
When the Ban is lifted Huawei will lock the bootloader again no doubt.
they have changed their mind, they will not unlock the BL for the Mate 30.
the only place this device will sell well is China, they are screwed pretty much everywhere else.
I just bought one in shanghai yesterday. Its a very neat and fast phone. especially the 40w charging is cool. you can watch percentages go up...
I asked for the 5G version but i was told its not availbale and should come November. I was wondering though if its already built in and just needs a software patch... like back then when Nvidia was reducing performace on Graphic cards by disabling shaders by firmware...

I would say most likely it works, as the China version covers pretty much all the network.
You could find out the specs from their website and check if the LTE bands covers T-Mobiles. It works on Bell's network though.

Most likely a review unit like others have had, release software dosnt have OEM unlock option in developers, if something comes of the int. Version we may be able to get rebranding but has yet to be seen
He commented about it being a devkit under the comment by Markus Haier here: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=5pxYxPSbl_s and said he was going to make a video on it but still nothing.
@o012 Well my P30-Pro (VOG-L09) has OEM unlocking under developer options but haven't tried unlocking.
All works in canada except certain banking apps google backup netflix google pay androis assistant needs to be rebooted everytime. Rest all works fine including google photo backup
Has anyone installed a custom ROM and TWRP to it yet.
Could a Gapps package help the issues? Gapps include all the google services and system setting to keep google stable and updating.
Think Gapps could be installed via the phones built in bootloader??.
I am looking forward to unlock the bootloader on Huawei P40 Pro and install some custom ROM like Pixel Experience in order to use Google apps services. Is that possible? Because Huawei don't have Gapps service due to US ban.
Bootloader is locked and Huawei stopped giving codes a couple of phone's ago so not much chance of any modding I'm afraid

That's right, I also have all my Google apps like Maps, YouTube, Play Store up and running fine on the P40 Pro.
But there's one detail missing: "OK Google/Hey Google" working on the lockscreen. That's the only thing I miss, but it's badly missing as I used that feature quite frequently.
Would be nice if there was an app (or a launcher) "just" listening for that keywords and firing up Google Assistant.
By the way: I just do not understand Huawei's move of ceasing to give away bootloader unlock codes. Would be such a simple way of bypassing that "Make Apple first again campaign" trade embargo and skyrocketing Huawei's sales figures. I just don't get it.

Thanks very much is working in p40 lite e put no install in the P30 pro
So here I am, 6 weeks later with my p40 pro, I have completely indulged in the world of Huawei mobile services & Im increasing the level of my knowledge around certain apps and alternatives, The biggest one thanks to @linux25 for recommending it in a previous thread regarding vanced, I was a bit unsure on how to do it at one point, BUT its live. So that's YouTube ticked off :highfive:
other than that I think the obvious alternatives are there now and to be fair im not bothered about what I use for them, My gmail I use Huaweis own email app, It does the same thing Ive never been one for google pay as I think its a rapid way of being skint really early after payday lol. Ive just recently downloaded the Tom Tom app, which I love, clean and easy to use and on my adventures over the weekend in the campervan I gave it a good go and well yeah it got me to a to b easily.
So the question remains of what other google apps do I need that there isn't alternatives for? Personally ive run dry on problems and im free flowing with solutions
6 weeks in and im glad I got this device!
After Much searching for a new phone mine is being delivered today.
I hope I get on with it, coming over from a Google Pixel 2xl.
Eyes wide open and not too worried about Google services etc.
Yep I feel pretty similar at this point.
I'll be honest prior to actually owning this device I was a bit skeptical about the whole "HMS" thing and their alternatives being true replacements for some of GMS, and not just plugged holes - and my original thought was to side load GMS - I was really wrong! The Huawei Cloud is super clean, and I love how all my photos from my Mate 10 Pro and P30 Pro sync over to my P40 Pro in separate folders on all 3 devices. Seeing how well this has been executed has definitely made me intrigued to see what else they have to offer going forward.
YouTube through the browser just wasn't going to be a full term solution for me, but Vanced is a game changer I wish I had even when I was using GMS based Huaweis! (It's now on the P30 Pro also)
I do wish there was a way to get individual apps working (including niche ones) using split installers without having to fully side-load GMS onto the device!
Have yet to give TomTom a go, have been using Waze for a year and minus the odd wild goose chase it puts you on occasionally I do still think its better than GMaps (although the similarities are getting closer)
Get Barclays working, and apps accessible for general consumers a little bit easier and I think Huawei might have been done a favour....
Found it really similar TBH. No real issues i still find the odd app that doesn't work like the Starbucks app. In fairness that helps me out because I will be spending less on coffee.
Having Android as a foundation on new Huawei devices is a blessing and with more and more developers coming on board daily it is a matter of time before HMS is the next best "since sliced bread" there are very few apps that I need from a GMS device such as Sky News, Sky Bet etc but am hopefully these will make there way across soon enough.
A big one for me would be gaming payments for example as a time pass I play Candy Crush on GMS but on HMS I do not have the functions to buy credits (if that makes sense)

If they could split it that would be good, however I would have to have a tutorial every time lol

Probably not a helpful answer but why would you need it? I could understand when Google's software was more colour accurate than Huaweis but I don't think this is the case anymore.

I tried a GCam mod out on my Mate 10 Pro a few years back, sharpness looked great but could never get the colours to work properly, always looked super flat and un-contrasty.
you must use Snapdragon device if u prefer Gcam on your phone

No GCam version works on current Huawei phones. You would need to unlock the bootloader and enable camera2 api, but that's not possible.
Only GCam GO works. But no point in using it on the P40 Pro.

Sorry for the late reply.
I'm working night shifts and have only switched the phone on for a few minutes to see how things look.
I have to say it feels great in the hand and it is a step up from my 2xl.
Super slow motion video is amazing and I'm surprised to say that I like the look and feel of EMUI.
Sorry not much help to you but I intend to have a good play around at the weekend and turn it into my daily driver.
to add to this post - does any one know of a way to cast the phone other than wireless projection? I have both a chromecast and a fire stick - would be super useful for me! Plus im currently in the middle of converting a van into a campervan - so ill be running a 12 v TV but it wont be a smart TV - So ill be using a hotspot to connect either one of the devices (chromecast/firestick) so which ever one can (if possible) would be amazing

You could use an ago called Allcast, I have found this worked well for me. Can cast media, not sure about projection.
id say all cast works best and is compatible with multiple different apps so everything son one place

Yeah makes sense. I like gcam mainly for its hdr and AI capabilities. I think huawei is doing very well in those aspects as well :good:

Agreed. There's always room for improvement though, so GCam would be a very nice option for those interested - me included. I always had GCam installed on my previous non-Huawei phones. Sad I can't do it on my P40 Pro, but it is what it is.
Google PlayStore compatible ?
Can be sideloaded the Google Playstore APK ? thanks
I'm asking because 2 different YouTuber reviewers reply with opposite answers:
Izami Gadget replies: Hi. Yes. Can install it with no problem. Same as another china phone that comes without GMS. can sideload the play store APK without a problem
Elsegood Michael replies: Not on the Chinese version no. You’ll have to wait to see if it’s released globally in the next couple of months
I'd like to know the same thing. Have ordered one from China. Should be with me by Tuesday (UK).

yeah. i hate this. its unbelievable how bad reviewers are these days.
from what I understand:
yes. you can side-load the Play Store. i've seen the Play Store installed on the phone.
unfortunately, you can download Gmail for example, but you cannot sign-into Gmail once you open the app.
thats why people are saying no Google Services.
thats how i understand it, hope it clears some things up for you.
also, you should look up all the ways to get Google Services on Huawei and Honor devices.
search "huawei honor google services".
people with these devices without Google Services shipped have been using a workaround for at least 2 years now.
some real capable people out there.

Question where did you purchase your Honor Magic V from? I am looking to purchase mine soon and looking for reputable buyer and faster shipping.
Have you tried these two versions below. I remember when I had my Mate X2 I had installed it using the below methods.
GMS Tutorial-
and Google Play Protect -
well that sucks.. I also saw one of the review videos where the lay store was installed but it would quit when you tried to open.. Its a deal braker since I need some work related apps. Will keep my oppo find n...
Yes I used the same on my mate x2. Using the above method you can install from the backup but when opening the G (lzplay.helper) it doesn't install gms just error.
I purchased mine from Trinity Electronics Hong Kong. I've used them a couple of times and they are very quick at replying and sending. Like any 3rd party seller there is a mark up on price. I don't mind paying a bit extra for peace of mind.
how are push notifications ?

Facebook and twitter work fine as you don't need Google services for them to work. For YouTube I've been using Vanced for years as I like it better than the normal YouTube app
