u11 plus pie - HTC U11+ Questions & Answers

Any word on when htc will update u11 plus to Android 9.0 htc went radio silence

There is nothing so far ....... We look forward to updating with passion ???

No news from HTC yet for U12+ and be sure this will be the first updated! So we'll have to be patient I think! HTC 10 was updated to Oreo in jan/feb '18! Considering there's only (compared to 10/U11) 6 months delay between U11+ and U12+, I think w'ell be waiting until end of this year minimum (once again, if U12+ gets the update until there). Or maybe they'll update U11+ and U12+ in the same time...

Or maybe they just won't bother and keep stringing us along. Like the HDR update or the fact that notifications have been screwed up for nearly a year. The U11+ has been one disappointment after another, made worse by very poor customer service.

I agree it's a shame they keep their customer in the dark on updates

Just miss when HTC used to have 90 days update on the mid-range A9

It's so disappointing with HTC updating schedule. They senems to have forgotten all their loyal supporters. It's time to leave this company for good. I have been with Dec 2017 security patch since day one. That does not justify for the flagship phone pricing.

Loyal or otherwise they really don't care once they have your money. I've been with HTC since the touch HD so I think about 12 years. They lost my custom in January last year when the update meant separate notifications couldn't be set. Customer service tried to tell me it was never a setting on the phone then told me they knew about the problem and it was a priority. That priority took nearly a year to fix.

AT&T Update?

Anybody got the update from AT&T yet? Weird thing is I was in a store last Thursday or Friday and for ****s and giggles I tried to update their display unit and what do you know it downloaded the update. Anybody else get lucky yet?

Move to Q&A.
Did you check the version after the update it may have been the last update and they just had not done the display models in the store?
Moderating from my One Xl
I didn't stick around for the entire update. It was over 600mb so I assumed it was the jelly bean. I've had my phone since September October of last year with no update. When was there an update recently?

There wasn't one "recently". I think Cadro is thinking the OTA you downloaded on the display model was for 2.20 which was released something like August. At least that was my thought. Especially for a store model, its possible that it was never updated.
maybe at&t corporate stores got a special early ota push
I don't have jelly bean yet. Im on 4.0.4,,, 2.20. I got that up date around August. The jelly bean update should be out soon, being the Rogers (Canada) just got the jelly bean update OTA. The US and Canada Htc one X have the same internals. Its just a matter of At&t and Htc finishing up. Most likely At&t takeing forever.. Ill post here if I ever get the update.

I used to compliment HTC about their timely updates and recommended this phone to many friends after they had bad Samsung experiences (myself included)...but the One X is starting to tarnish that view for me. First it was end of 2012...then end of December....then beginning of January...sigh.
I don't mean to blame HTC solely...or blame AT&T solely as I'm sure both are responsible. But the sad part is...even after this update the One X will be on 4.1.1....there's still 4.2 and 4.2.1 out there and 4.2.x brings plenty of noticeable improvements to the OS. 4.2.1 is kind of important if you like the month of December.
Is there any company left that is going to actually work at pleasing their customers with timely updates that fix security holes and bug issues? (Of course I say this as I hold a Galaxy Nexus in my hand....I just feel bad for my wife and her One X )
The latest Android is ALWAYS reserved for a brand new release phone. Exclusiveness for months has always been given.
No old phones get updates to the latest until months later. Samsung is not shipping 4.2 to GS3 and wont for months.
I remember my old Nexus One did not get the later updates until after other flagships sported it for 2-3 months.
End of 2012 is end of December 2012 and HTC shipped JB for One XL in early December. Any delays after that is 100% AT&T.
HTC shipped JB several weeks behind schedule but delivered in general in a fairly timely manner.

Don't get me wrong - I understand the company's philosophy on it and will concede that AT&T is most likely the hold up. I guess in my mind I didn't hold the international One X and US/Canada One X in the same category since they have different processors. But you're right....certain regions of the world did get JB by the end of 2012.
It's an odd switch for Samsung to release the JB update earlier to the SGS3 than HTC. Especially since the SGS 3 came out almost a month after the One X. All my point was = traditionally HTC has a good reputation of getting updates out before other manufacturers. Other manufacturers (in my opinion Samsung) have not had such a good reputation on updates. Just sad to see them start to loose that edge they used to have.
I'll be looking out for it as well. I know my wife's One X has some problems that I'm hoping will be fixed in the JB update.
HTC has bowed down to att for everything about this phone. They have failed their consumers.

I am not talking about the international one x. I am talking about one xl's which are the same phone as AT&T one x.
Evita phones which are identicle to AT&T one x got jb in early December.
Every floor model I've looked at was either 1.73 or 1.85 so 100% chance it was the 2.20 update

Any News about 7.0?

Hello all... Is there any updates about news for 7.0? When will it come? Oct, Nov or Dec? What will it have new?
7 minutes ago Mo Versi (@moversi) post a news about the October security update for A9, M9 and HTC10 (new security update will be OTA on 10/24) so i think that Nougat update will be very soon! ( i hope so)

Tired of waiting, bought the HTC 10...
It's a ****ing beast!
You should not have had to buy a new phone to get what you were promised.
Really disappointed from HTC, i think i will never trust again HTC.
first they say screen protection is gorilla glass 4 and after test shows its GG3 they hide it!
they promise 15 days update after nexus and now there is mouths and even M9 gets the update and we not.
feeling sad for buying A9
With HTC you are still one of the first to get the Nougat update.
True, they did say "15 days for A9" and that appeared to be a broken promise but still we're getting it very fast.
Come on, 2 months is not much. Be patient.

I bought it for that promise, and I preferred HTC instead of the Nexus 6p... totally disappointed with the "HTC marketing fail"
Technically they're still faster than the other OEMs around... maybe by the end of the month we're having Nougat on our devices...
I also bought it instead of Nexus 5, thinking a big company like HTC never broke a big promise like this, they dont peomise it for M9 but as we see secound device was that and we still remain on marshmallow! Ok 15 day is not possible for a big update like nougat and again ok htc 10 is flag ship, but why they release it for M9 but not for A9?!

Actually other brands have their models with Nougat today.

What's HTC's customer service like these days (UK)?

Essentially this. Seriously tempted to cancel my Pixel 2 XL panda order and order one of these instead. Ironically, I'd probably still get this before the Panda XL, which would be with me around 21st December!
What's HTC like to deal with if you have issues? My previous HTC phone was a One X, so I'm a bit behind!
100 quid less, twice the memory & 2Gb more RAM along with expandable storage and the second best Android camera is swaying me, but stock android is making me waver...

Very true. Don't actually care about Daydream, which I know is a perk of OLED. What are the software updates like now? More frequent, or few and far between?
I've heard some truly horrendous examples of HTCs customer service when it comes to repairs, both on the internet and a couple through my old place of work (mobile phone repair contact centre), which is another reason I'm hesitating.

My experience i had with HTC (NL) was always good, proper response and whenever i had some issues HTC picked it up and without any discussion repaired my phones. i really like them, and yes there will always be some to say to each company but i am using HTC form the old days (when the produced phones under the brand of Qtek) and they never really disappointed me.
With the HTC online store, the only place I can buy the U11+ | and no financing option, I can not consider it sadly. LG V30 is my bottom choice - the OnePlus 5T could be good - and the Razer Phone is a good choice also.

it would be nice to get the update for the December security patch at the very least. we still have a few hours to go before December ends. OP did this with Nougat and Xiaomi just updated the Mi A1. HTC might surprise us, just with the phone deliveries.

Hehe still having hope. One reason for not buying HTC was this, no updates. Finally I bought it because I think it's one of the best phones this year.
But a phone with no support is not good, like you said still in October security patch. That's not good for a new phone. That's one reason to change this phone. A powerful one.
I knew this would happen. Im glad that I have cancelled the preorder and it seems that I wount be re-ordering. Sadly, sooner or later, you will all realize, that this is just a failed Pixel 2 project and HTC just wanted to get some money back and threw this to the market. There wount be any HDR10 support update (at least a working one) and certainly there wount be any brightness boost to the most dim display ever put to a flagship. Its really sad Im looking forward to buy something useable in April 2018.

I hope you were wrong. Actual pixel 2 XL is a failed pixel with a lot of screen issues like burning screen or blue screen, and so many other problems like sound recording video and well known others.
I think that HTC will update their phones but not as fast as they say or as good as they promised. Anyways I probably will change this phone in 2018.

That's a fact. But with or without hdr.. This thing is a amazing beast.
So true about that display I compared it to a V30 in store and theyre world's apart!
Phone is boss though all-round, I'm just worried about after sales support at the minute. If this phone runs into issues after the next 5 days (return window) then I'm into the waiting list of 3 months + without a phone, which would leave me kicking myself.
Currently on October patch too - UK. That's shocking. And who's to say we're even going to get one?
In two minds wether to return this and buy a supported device such as a Pixel 2 XL and sacrifice screen, or hold on to this beast and cross my fingers nothing goes wrong with it.

I'm worried about support of this phone too. Still in October patch and we are in 2018 now. I took this one instead pixel 2 XL mostly because screen issues of the pixel. Now I'm regretting it.
The camera is good but not as good as expected. No portrait mode or anything similar, also photos are a bit underexposed, a bit dissapointed with camera and max brightness.
So I'm waiting the HDR10 update to see if this can fix something with this phone, otherwise I will sell this and I will take a pixel.

My advice. Hold on to this beast! Updates will follow. Probably after the completion of the global U11 OREO update. HTC is a little busy these days. Service should not be a problem. When having problems contact htc directly.
The phone is not yet available in all Europe, let's wait and see what HTC will do. So far i'm enjoying it. I don't care about the HDR10 update, but they need to update the security patch, and minors tweaks on the camera.

I think camera need a big update. It's just correct but not the camera it is supposed to be. I will say that u11 normal has better camera than this, it has lot of noise in low light and low detail in general. Video it's just OK, but not awesome. If they manage to upgrade the camera can be one of the top 3, it has potential to it.
I've compared the cameras of the U11 plus with the U11. And yes you are right. I did see some difference between them. Hardware is the same so I believe they will fix it with the first update. But... The frontcam of the U11 plus is better.

Yeah its definitely not surprising. They're not selling anything and haven't for a while, and when they were, they were not selling enough, or selling at too low of prices. Its not a great business strategy. I'm just sad that there will never be another software update, guess itll be time to move on to lineage.
A sad day! Still really enjoy my Essential phone. I guess it makes the decision to get a new handset a bit easier!
Yep, it's a shame, especially given most early issues with the phone are now fixed.

Problem I had, was with the signal (or lack of). I use straight talk (tracfone) and places where I had a good
signal with my previous phone, I had no signal. Even with my OnePlus 6T, I had signal, and with the PH-1
I had no signal. Other than that, I never really had any issues, so It's in the drawer and an emergency phone.
Damn! Love this phone, never had any issues eg signal strength. I even care to prefer the more natural colours of it's native camera for outdoor photos in good light to Gcam!

Still my daily driver. No more gloating over getting fast updates. Think I dropped mine one too many times. The color camera can only focus on objects within a few feet of the phone. No infinity focus. Maybe time to cash in the chips.

Samsung is 2nd best.
Motorola is the lottery.
LG doesn't update phones especially in the United States.
Everyone else doesn't sell a ton of phones and tends to not update well either.
What's amazing to me is that at this point there is so little interest in this phone that after they announced they're shutting the doors, you have only 15 comments in a thread about that!

Sad day. I still use mine as my one and only daily driver. I was so hoping for a ph-2 version but by the lack of news I felt the shutdown was coming.
R. I. P. Essential
I picked up a pixel 4xl from TMobile today. For a phone that got knocked as hard as the essential did at its released price, hopefully this pixel serves well at $499. 40 days until unlock. No matter; I'll put my Adguard lifetime license key on it and see how that goes until then.
The Essential was just feeling like it wasn't built for Android 10. I stayed on Nougat for a long time. Was briefly on Oreo before jumping on 10 when it went official. Battery and function were fine until 10. One Magisk mod I was running, thinking it was helping got attacked by a well-known kernel developer today.
So maybe open sourced development is what I and this phone really needed? I didn't try a kernel. Best wishes for those sticking with this phone. I hope the Essential gets developed well with the source code that Essential surrendering going out the door.
