Interesting observation re fingerprint scanner which stopped working.
I have recently replaced the shattered screen of my Moto Z.
Afterwards the battery became de-calibrated, showing massive battery drains, although the battery was still full. After a day of replacing the screen the fingerprint sensor suddenly stopped working.
After re-calibrating the battery with a full discharge and and full recharge, the fingerprint sensor is working again. I discharged the battery by disabling the battery saver when charge reached 1%. Afterwards the phone kept running for another 30 minutes showing youtube videos. In general I followed these instructions. https://www.androidpit.com/how-to-calibrate-the-battery-on-your-android-device#without-root
Hope it helps someone.
Cheers

The "official" moto suggestion is to discharge to 0%, plug it in, leave it plugged in @ 100% for a few hours. A little simpler.

I received my Moto G on 8th Feb (Saturday). I opened the packet at night. After checking everything, plugged the charger and Moto G came to life. Battery level showed 55%, which was unusual. Not sure how can this phone show 55% charging just after coming out of the box!!!??
Then I let it charge for 2-3 hours before turning it ON. When batter charging showed 100%, i removed the charger and switched on the phone.
I then enjoyed the UI of phone for about an hour and then switched it off. Then during afternoon when i tried to turn it on (as it was already charged at night), it showed no signs of life. I then connected my charger and was kinda annoyed to see that battery level is showing 0%.
Do anyone has any idea why & how is this happening?
Its a known bug when newly launched in brazil ..most of the people had the same complaint. .check the older threads in general and troubleshooting.
Seems like indian handsets come with this bug too.. nothing serious but still annoying ...
Thanks for reply.
I gained awareness from a friend that this is something called Battery Calibration. When it showed me 55% initially, it might actually be very less and when it showed 100% in 2 hrs, it might be still very less in actual. I might have used all that very less charging and when switched off, it used up the left over even less battery.
I think if anyone else too faced this problem, it must only be in initial days. I am just hoping that i don't face this problem again.
Anyone body has any view over this, plz feel free to share.
Thanks.
Hi,
My phone got some juice spilled on it yesterday. It had a case on it,and that absorbed a lot of the juice (phone was in a bag) and turned on and off a few times after this occurred. Cleaned it as best as i could.
Phone works fine, but the problem i'm having is very slow charging when plugged in.
Just ordered a precision screwdriver set and will pull it apart and have a look at it.
Had let it dry for at least 4 hours prior to putting the cover back on it. Didn't charge it for about 10 hours after the incident (cleaned all the gunk off it then put it on charge as the battery was running low).
Phone still works ok, and has not re-started in the last 24 hours. Charging still stuck at 75%.
Has anyone else ever experienced something similar?
I'd really like to keep my current phone if it only means a battery change.
Does anyone reckon it could be something wrong with the circuitry (ie. something that requires a shop to fix - in which case it won't be worth that expense for me!).
Thanks again.
EDIT: Phone now saying "Charging: Six hours till fully charged" at 75%. Safe to assume it's the battery?
EDIT 2: Tried charging in safe mode and in airplane mode, still the same. Phone is able to maintain a charge but charges very slow. Phone still works fine (all functions intact) and has not restarted/switched off. Charging port also looks clean. Possible hypothesis : AV voltage insufficient for battery as it is damaged? Contact plates have been damaged??
i believe it's the sensor, it's not reading correctly the battery, so that 75% on the screen means nothing, when real low charge, the phone shuts down or reboot, but still shows 75%
I just had my Xperia Z5's battery replaced due to it bloating up. After two weeks, I noticed that the battery indicator isn't working properly.
It would go down from 100% really fast (even during standby - not using the phone) but stay around 30% down for a really long time. No difference in usage. Then it also started restarting on its own even during standby. I would check my phone and it would need me to input my pin saying its required after a restart. Another instance, I was still typing out a text message and it restarted on its own. The battery was around 60% before it restarted but after it turns on again the battery indicator showed that its at 40 something %. I don't think the battery would drain that much just from restarting.
Also, just today, it won't charge properly anymore. It will detect the charger, like it would make the sound when you plug it in but the battery icon won't change to the charging icon and the battery will continue to drain. When turned off, it would show the Sony logo then battery level on the screen but will stay at 0% or whatever % it was left at and will continue draining.
So my phone just died earlier and I just went to plug it in hoping it would still work. The battery was stuck at 0% for the longest time so I just went and left it for a few hours. Coming back to it, I noticed that the LED indicator is green. I pressed the power button and it showed 100%, then I tried turning on the phone. It still turned on, showing 100% on the battery icon and could be used like usual.
I can still use the phone, barely, but this issue is really annoying. I'm not even sure if the next time it drains it would charge again.
So far, I've tried:
using a different cable and charger
doing a factory reset
doing a repair via Xperia Companion
But the issue still persists...
Is there anything else I can do on my end to fix this?
You should replace your battery
Hello.
I'm sorry to hear that your Xperia Z5 got this problem.
Here're some personal experiences:
1.Just replace a battery for it.My Xperia Z5 had same issue last month:Its battery lasts for only 2 or 3 hours, and charges much faster than before. Then I think maybe the battery life loss too much,so I bought a battery from taobao(A Chinese Website),then everything's fine just as when I buy it.
2.According to your description, maybe the sub board(It's responsible for charging and data transmission)is broken too.You can find a used one at ebay.
That's all.I hope this message can help you.And...I'm a Chinese so maybe you can't understand my Chinglish(It means "Chinese English" )...Sorry for that.
So I've noticed that the phone doesn't charge above approximately 73% when fully turned off. I'm using the standard Google charger for the phone. It also charges normally when the phone is turned on. See screenshot...
My refurbished Pixel also does not show only around 65% charge after being plugged in for the whole night.
But then when I use it, it sort of freezes at a specific battery percentage, so it is on for example 30% for two hours, before it goes further down. See the attached picture.
So at least in my case, the phone is fully charged when turned off and plugged in, but somehow the percentage count of the phone does not recognize it. Maybe it's more or less the same in your case?
I too am having battery issues since updating to the latest October Android 10. I have bootloader unlocked and rooted with latest magisk Canary build.
I can charge to 100% but it then tends to stick at a certain% for a while and then the battery dies at 15-20%. I've tried battery calibration but it doesn't seem to help
I've had a dose of the same lately, had a couple of days where my charge has reached 42% for the entire day? Still charges fine but from a 100% charge I will lose at least 13% - 16% charge in a few hours on idle with nothing showing as draining heavy in battery manager. If I run it down to 18% or less and try and use the camera it will shutdown and if I can get it to reboot it's on 1%. I've come to the conclusion its the battery (could be wrong) purely as it's acting exactly the same way as my nexus 6p did when it's battery started to fail.
Is anyone experiencing a battery drain even though your S22 Ultra is switched off? I'm experiencing 4% drain every hour. 32% when every night when I sleep with my phone turned off.
I turn on power saving and extra dim using the bixby routine for the period that I'm in bed sleeping. It loses 1-2% ph
If you don't mind, can you try turning off your phone for the night and see how much battery percentage it loses? Mine went from 32% to flat 0% by morning. I had not realised this until recently. I tested in the morning by turning off my phone for an hour, it went from 60 to 54%. That's like 6% in an hour. But if I keep it on standby , it'll be 1% down in an hour. It's the turning off that is causing problems.
I know some laptops will drain battery power after shut down, but phone?
Exy or Snap?
Try checking in details with a battery monitoring app (e.g. GSam) to see what is/ are the culprit(s).
Also take a look at here for some useful tips.
It's strange that a lot of battery drain when phone is completly off.
In my opinion it's short circuit or battery is fault.
If phone is normal on are you see too battery drain?
When phone is switched off battery shouldn' experience any drain, or at least any noticeable drain in a short period.
Remember, when you bought your phone it came with battery half charged, and that was probably months after it was assembled and sealed in its package..
You should take your phone to a service or replace it, if possible
maybe somewhere on the PCB there is a short circuit. I ran into the same problem when using Xiaomi Mix 3 11 months ago.
