you need to extract update.app from your rom what you download. take from there recovery_ramdis (not twrp like in manual)
rest yu need to do the same like in manual, and every reboot or boot, you need to hold VOL UP button like you want to boot in to TWRP and then system boot with root, if you dont hold button system start without root

ok recovery_ramdis file extracted and patched with magisk app, but when I reboot pressing up button the device goes into the recovery and ask me to reboot or wipe.
What's the problem? Is it patched?
Thank you.
edit: IT WORKS! Magisk installed correctly!

You can use this recovery, when you're on Oreo: https://forum.xda-developers.com/mate-9/development/preliminary-twrp-3-1-1-0-mate-9-emui-8-t3687622
Then this SuperSU: https://androidfilehost.com/?fid=962021903579485056
There's no Magisk yet.

I've yet to try decrypting oreo, but you should be able to modify the updater-script in both public and HW zips, and remove the command mountcrypt and the last that should normally install update.app.
So unzip, edit, zip. It should work if it's just the Huawei commands that are making it reboot.

Hi again @ante0
i just installed oreo again, tried to decrypt data:
1.flashed oreo
2.boot,factory reset with erasing data.
3.unlock BL
4.flashed TWRP
5.format data
6.reboot recovery,data was decrypted.
7.install SuperSu with the file u gave me in this thread.
8.flashed modified public and hw,( i had to remove verify files(verify script and verify script_data) which they contain mountencrypt ("data") command. ).(Hw ended up with error 9 but everything seems to be okay)
9.reboot
but when i boot in TWRP between first boot loop after installing SuperSu,data was encrypted.
any idea how can i decrypt data ?

It should be possible. I don't think SuperSU changes/removes everything it needs to though, as we now seem to have 3 different fstab rather than 1. It should be possible to modify the AVB script to remove fileencryptioninline.

Much has changed since I posted that
Use this TWRP: https://mega.nz/#!4DYngAxL!OJEgQ4a4cSTypHgRBbMQbok2BRDuVHSDXNktAJ_PnKQ (flash to recovery_ramdisk)
With official Magisk v16 : http://tiny.cc/latestmagisk
I don't think SuperSU will get more updates tbh, and I haven't tested it lately. I do know that Magisk works on AOSP

Phone stuck in "device is booting now" screen after oreo update

Hi guys,
I tried to update my Bln-l21 from emui 5 (nougat) to emui 8 (oreo) using the guide https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/how-to/guide-update-to-emui-8-t3807806
It worked so I went on to install TWRP from https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-6x/development/rom-emui-8-0-0-honor-6x-dual-sim-t3794079, as suggested in a comment on the guide.
Only then I realized that in order to install Gapps I needed GSM installer, so I downloaded it, but it didn't work because it loaded TWRP instead of the stock erecovery.
I started to panic real bad
I tried reinstalling the firmware using hwota8 (since i had upgraded i figured i had to use that), but it completely destroyed my phone.
Now it wont boot, recovery wont boot and neither erecovery. I can only get it to enter fastboot.
I know, I am a total noob, but PLEASE help me out on this, i'm desperate.
Thank you so much
If you can enter into fastboot, just install twrp, boot into twrp and flash the ROM using HuRUpdater. Use your external storage for the HuRUpdater and the ROM files. The instructions are here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/honor-9/development/tool-flash-official-firmware-recovery-t3769279
Before flashing through Hurupdater wipe system Cache Data Internal and Dalvik/ART Cache.

Thank you for the answer, I was able to boot in TWRP (the one in the original post) and I downloaded Huru, but I'm unsure of which firmware to use. I want to downgrade back to nougat and rebrand back to europe (since the guide in the original post made me change to china).

Just use China and then install a custom ROM

Just use the original files you used in the first place. The ones you downloaded from the thread. In terms of a custom ROM there is a thread in Custom ROMS section for Pixys OS. Just search stable Pie ROM for Honor 6x and install it. It's very smooth, etc.
This is a EMUI 8 ROM. If you want to go back to EMUI 5 don't use this. This will only restore EMUI 8. After that flash Custom ROM Don't go back to EMUI 5

Hi, I successfully flashed with Hurupdater and I'm going trough the installation of the pixys rom. The guide says that i need to flash the stock recovery for my device, where can I find it?
Can I pull it from the firmware I used for Huru? If that's the case, how?
Thank you again
I do have instructions over there but cause you asked I will tell.
Extract the Update.zip the large file. In it you will have an Update.app. Now serach for Huawei Update Extractor on XDA and Download it. Run the application and navigate to Update.app. Select it and in settings of Extractor uncheck the first option. Now extract Recovery_Ramdis.img and flash it. Luck.

Really there is no need for that. I did what anyone would do. Your thanks is enough.
Can you tell me what version you flashed. What TWRP did you use and what was the message after flashing. Now regarding Magisk, I am gonna assume you flashed the ZIP and the Magisk Manager app didn't show up, correct? To solve that just download Magisk Manager v6.0.1 and install the apk.
If that's not the issue then download any Root Checker app to see if device is rooted. Although I guess you need Magisk Manager to validate Root access. So just install Magisk Manager and let me know what it says. If it says device is unrooted then you probably need to flash Magisk again.
P.S: I don't have a PayPal. Not yet available in my country.

I really appreciate your kindness,
I flashed the latest version of magisk available from the official thread using the same TWRP from before (king of mezi TWRP from elemental rom thread) and it looked fine... Yes, the app didn't show up, I will try with the manager and I'll let you know.
[edit] I installed the manager and turns out it actually worked the first time and I'm already rooted!
Thank you again, you've been wonderful!
Glad to help.

OnePlus 7 pro oos 11 beta 1 TWRP and root

Hello everyone.
I was wondering if anyone has found a work around to get a custom recovery to work on the oos 11 beta one for op7p gm1917.
I've tried msm tool and have working TWRP untill I install ops 11.
Once I install the beta 1 and TWRP booting to recovery is stuck in a flashing TWRP logo. Only way to recover from this is to flash stock boot image.
I do have root as I patched the stock boot.img with magisk 8.0.4 then flashed the boot image with fastboot.
If anyone could help me get this TWRP up and running I would definitely appreciate it.
Thank you...

Thanks, buddy.
You guys can flash a zip of twrp like orangefox dual boot. Right after the ota in twrp. With a pen drive to get twrp in OS11. No need to actually use a dualboot its just a really nice build I use it.
Anyone tried this method? https://www.droidwin.com/update-oneplus-to-android-11-oxygenos-11-via-twrp-without-losing-root/

is Recovery_ramdisk.img same as Ramdisk.img?

is Recovery_ramdisk same as Ramdisk?
i am trying to install magisk. i want to patch the ramdisk so i can flash my phone s i can get root. my bootloader is unlocked already.
i used huawei extractor to take out partions from the firmware for my mopile, but i only found either recovery_ramdisk or erecovery_ramdisk. i didnt find ramdisk or boot in the update.app file.
here is a screen shot
https://imgur.com/b1dS3rF
As far as I guessed recovery_ramdisk.img is a combined image of boot.img and recovery.img.
can i use it to install magisk?
I am not really sure but you may need to split it into boot image and recovery image and use the boot image to use magisk. Try 7zip(google that)and try if there is luck.
by the way you are using huawei?have you unlocked bootloader(that is a hard job)?

Didnt work. Thnks for trying though.
2yrs later, LoL, so i have a mate 10 pro, i know this is 20's section
but similarly, after i would "fastboot flash recovery_ramdisk magisk_patched_blah.img" it would complete, then upon power cycle, or "fastboot reboot" it would boot without root.
but when i flashed it, then hit enter right after the reboot command, immediately disconnected usb & immediately held power & vol+ until screen showed it was booting...then it booted normal, WITH root.
then allows for magisk to direct install. then it was full root. thought i would mention as that didnt happen on emui 8.0.0.137/139 for me. but after i did an update to 9.1.0.300 (i have cust 605) the rooting got a touch harder.
